I have an issue with my MacBook Pro and my Hermes. I want to share the internet connection from the phone but have issues with each solution I have attempted so far
Wifi - I was using the Wifirouter application successfully until I was advised that the channel on which it is operating is conflicting with an essential wireless router in the area. I cannot therefore use it. I cannot see any way of changing the channel.
Bluetooth - There seems to be an issue with the MacBook Pro bluetooth which causes the connection to be unusable.
USB - This would be my preferred solution however there doesnt seem to be a way to allow the Mac to use this connection.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Aidan
Found this and wondered whether this could possibly work with OSX?
Anyone got any ideas?

I dont suppose there are any Mac gurus here? I am having difficulty compiling the source due to the inability to locate /lib/modules. I presume there is an alternative location on OSX?

Yes I am (6.1) with no problems using it. Make sure that you get the modem scripts copied over (to Library/Modem Scripts), shut down the computer, plug up the phone and put it in modem mode, then start the computer (with phone connected). Go into the System Preferences and click on the network icon and it should say new port detected.
FWIW, I have OS X 10.4...
Hi Kenny,
I have the USB modem option in my control panel and I have seklected the Mobile Stream GSM script and disabled the wait for dial tone. The number I am dialing is *99#. I am getting "A modem error occurred. Please verify your settings and try again".
Any ideas? I am running the USB Modem util on the phone at the same time....

What Mac OS? Are you using Leopard???
Yep, I am running Leopard....

WHY DOSN'T Activesync work?????
I can put up with Activesync not working under VPC on my Mac but I CANNOT put up with it not Activesyncing with a brand new 2 month old IBM laptop running XP Pro and all the latest patches.
Is it the phone that is at fault or Microsoft or a combination?????
My old PDA2K Activesyncs fine on BOTH VPC and the IBM so why not this device?
Anyone PLEASE HELP ME.......
Robin
Are you using ActiveSync v.4.1?
If it is a Windows Mobile 5 device (Wizard, Universal) instead of a Windows Mobile 2003SE Device, you need a minimum version 4.1 of ActiveSync
Yup it is a Wizard and I am using AS 4.1.
I have tried Firewall on, off, VPN on, off.
I have de-installed and re-installed 4.1.
Still NOTHING.
The Laptop see's new hardware, says it has installed okay and then AS does NOTHING.!!!!!!!!
Robin
in my case it was the firewall
you sure both your windows and software firewall is off?
also check in network connections that your phone network connection is connected
what happens in activesync... errors? does it display its trying to sync ? just "it is not syncing" doesnt help
If the laptop sees the device as new hardware and not the actual device it means that you do not have active Synch 4.1 or that the installation was borked . because 4.1 includes the drivers for this phone to be recognized by windows.. so if you had 4.1 it would show your phone name and then it might not have worked , but not the way you are describing it now.
Also you might wanna put up a bit more objective title when posting something like this if you want psotive feedback instead of flamez...
very good point avocaz
totally missed the point that it does detect but possibly does not install which would be down the active sync 4.1 not being there

1. Certainly I turned off the Windows Firewall, don't know about any other Firewall. HOWEVER the fact my PDA2K can connect surely rules out a Firewall problem?
2. Don't know how to do this? I am a Mac user and am using XP JUST to sync my phone.
3. Nothing happens in Activesync. I get the normal, bing bong chime. but the AS icon does not turn green or open.
If I manually open AS and tellit to cennect it cannot find an attached PDA.
On the other hand if I attach my PDA2K I get the bing bong, the icon turns green, AS opens fine.
Is that clearer?
Is there any more info you need?

But surely the fact that when I connect my PDA2K AS 4.1 opens and works indicates it IS there and working?
If I check its version it says 4.1?
AS 4.1 is the first instal of AS on this machine, never had an earlier version on it.
Sorry about the title but I guessed I would at least get some response with it.
I am pulling my hair out here and don't want to return the phone but without a computer connection it is totally useless to me.
Robin
Its not your desktop. Its the AS client on the device itself that causes these problems. Apparently, the next ROM Update is supposed to fix all AS issues. Just hold on till mid-Jan.

Sounds reasonable HOWEVER if I cannot get the damn thing to connect to a PC I am never going to be able to laod the new rom to fix the problem it won't connect to a pc, so I won't be able to connect ot a PC ...........
I am losing it big time...
How would I install the update without a PC connection?
Robin
Use the wifi to download the rom ? Sorry your having problems but this phone definately doesnt stink. Havent put mine down since Christmas day .... the wife is definately not pleased. She keeps giving it daggers
Okay
My FIRST bit of success.
I found out my laptop has a IRD port and the phone HAS connected via this so it is most certainly a USB issue.
Now the question is can a rom update be done of IRD or does it need to be the USB connection?
Robin
PS WiFI download would not help as the rom needs to be loaded FROM a PC.
Just a thought, but are you connecting via a usb hub?
Best not to, and I find always using the same usb socket also helps...

DO NOT INSTALL ROM UPDATE VIA IR.
It should be done via USB ONLY. Thats one of the main instructions in the ROM update page that pops up on executing the RU file.
I had problems because of the ports. AS4.X needs a hand full of ports to communicate with the PPC, in my case TCP Port 990 was already in use.

HOw do I check this, I am not very PC Literate.
I am much more used to a Mac where things normally 'just work' :?
I have just noticed a couple of things following some of the Microsoft trouble shooting guide.
If I have AS open on the KJAM it shows the spinning green button and that it is trying to connect, still nothing on the PC end.
HOWEVER what I did notice on the PC end in Device Manager is that a Windows mobile-based device appears under netowrk connectors.
So SOME KIND of connection IS happening.
Robin
PS Many thanks for being a sounding board for me and your helpful ideas, it is very much appreciated, I just wish I was making more progress.
Let me set the record straight.
This phone does NOT stink. The more I use it the more I like it.
Certainly it is a big improvement over my PDA2K in size and usability.
HOWEVER I still cannot get it to connect to my laptop and I am getting so frustrated cause its the last thing left for me before I really start to LIKE this phone..............
Any more ideas out there because I have tried everything I can think of with no luck at all except via IRDA.
Robin
Hi there,
I've been trying to set up my kjam as a bluetooth modem for my laptop without any success.

i guess you didn't check conent of CD included in box with your k-jam yet. on my CD i've found this document:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_using_i-mate_K-JAM_as_a_Bluetooth_Modem.pdf
this file is also available on www.clubimate.com support site after registration...
Anyone got the KJam / Mini S working over bluetooth with GPRS when connected to a Apple Powerbook?
Thanks,
Actually I followed the instructions of that doc but it still won't work. Maybe it's the stupid bluetooth stack of my toshiba laptop.
I can't see why activesync can't handle this right away. Oh, I can, it's an MS product.
Oh well. I'll keep trying
BTW, Have you killed AS?
i update my bt stack from toshiba web site and it works now.
What do you mean by killing activesync?

RE: Using Wizard as Bluetooth Modem for Apple Powerbook
adambern,
I finally managed to get my K-Jam working as a Bluetooth Modem over GPRS after quite a bit of searching! I can only verify that this will work in OS X 10.4.4 (latest version of Tiger), since I didn't seem to have the options available before I updated Tiger.
Firstly, you will need to download the Generic Mobile Phone Script available from Ross Barkman's excellent homepage: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/. I have attached it here, but you should really visit the site, if only to donate a pint to Ross for his excellent work!
You will also need to know the GPRS settings for your network. Again, Ross can sort you out on his site.
1. Put the Generic Mobile Phone script in the /Library/Modem Scripts folder on your Mac.
2. Open the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, and search for your Wizard.
3. Once found, allow your Mac to pair with your phone. The Mac should then come up with a couple of options. One of these options will be "Use your phone as a modem for your computer", or something along those lines. Tick this check box.
4. Your Mac will now ask for a load of settings. Make sure you enter the phone number as *99#, and enter your username and password as determined from your network.
5. Click OK, and close the Assistant.
6. Open Internet Connect in your Apllications folder.
7. Select Bluetooth, and click Dial.
8. Voila! Your phone should now be working as a modem!
If you have any problems, refer to the notes Ross gives with the scripts. I hope this is of assistance to those of us with a sensible choice in computers .
Many thanks Invisigoth... I'll give it a go later.
Great community spirit.
gosh, i still can't get it to work. i'm running xp though.
windows is trying to dial but then it doesn't work
You are a SAINT........
THANK YOU.
Worked first time for me and at last I have an internet connection from my phone with my Mac Powerbook..............
Again thank you.
Robin
Hallelujah, I finally got it to work.
I have one question though. It looks like that the 115 kbit bt com port speed is the bottle neck in this connection. Is there any way to raise that?
Thanks
A
Hi Guys finally i get this nice device but it seem to don't like my MacBook..
For Sync i used the Missing Sync programm and all work Good but for going in Internet using my Trinity as a modem it NO WAY...
Who can slove this problem?
Have you try to use it as a Modem for an apple copmputer?
Thx a lot Guys!
Try this: go to Settings, Connection, USB to PC and uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality". This way the phone should be recognised as a USB modem.
(I don't have a Mac so I haven't tried this myself)
thx i try it but it doesn`t work!
I try on xP and i have the same problem!

I certainly have been trying... the first thing that I find is that when I connect it to the Apple using the USB cable is that it doesn't recognise it. Has anyone had more success with this? The only problem is that I can't remember what happened when I first connected it - perhaps it asked me to set up a connection and I got it wrong. This is my first return to Macs in ten years, so I was a little overwhelmed by trying to get familiar both with it and with a new phone (Dopod D810).
If I did set up a connection... (!) then I think the connection is called "SerialPort-1", and the network report says that it is configured, but not connected. I don't seem to be able to delete it and start again. Maybe the Mac isn't even recognising the USB connection?...? Any feedback would be much appreciated!
This has been discussed many times - no DUN service with Trinity ...
But no problem going online with your MacBook. Make sure you update to the latest OSX.
Then delete old bluetooth connections to Trinity on your MacBook and reconnect using bluetooth
Then start Internet connection sharing on your Trinity - then click on the bluetooth symbol (top right) on your MacBook and choose the New Option connect to Bluetooth Pan (your owner name)
Hope it helps
any one knows where I could get one? I tried downloading from Jupiter website... but they dont even provide trial license key (although they say it's 30day trial version, it installs but wont stays in disabled status)
or any other similar client...
I'm trying to log into corp network with first PEAP and secondary EAP-GTC auth...
any ideas anyone?

OAC file doesn't work on Xperia
HI, I have tried to install two sets of drivers on the phone. One of the drivers that I installed were on the OAC (Oddysey's) main website. The Other I downloaded from this forum. The first one keeps locating the wireless driver and remains in that status. The other one after installation says that the Wireless card is not present.
I have tried restarting the Phone a few time. Tried switching the Wireless lan on and of a few times but still but drivers switch to their orginal message. If the wireless Lan is on then both the drivers give the messages that adapter is disconnected.
I dont want ot us oddyssey but my work wifi network is being run with oddyssey. All the Nokia e-series phones connect by adding the MAC into the access points and SIP settings but mine cant. Can anyone help please.

This happens to me too. Does anyone know how to solve this? I wonder if this has anything to do with the "ARM" version of OAC malibu_23 posted.
I've used the following here at work. I don't use it much, but it did work. I discovered there wasn't really a great need for me to get into my wireless network at work on my phone.

Hi everyone. Does anyone have a mokey's step be step guide to setting up my Touch HD as a modem with vodafone. Instructions for both the phone and my laptop running windows XP with a USB wire connection would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
Thanks but no info on my issue there, might seem a rather basic problem for this forum but this is causing me a real headache.
Cheers
I used to use my old HP 6300 as a dial-up modem a few times and when I moved to a Wizard and now a Kaiser I wanted the same ability. You need ModemLink in your ROM (or installed from a .cab file). You also need the HTC USB Modem drivers installed on your PC.
You need to activate ModemLink and then install the drivers onto your PC. You should then have a new COM port and attached to this a HTC USB Modem. You need to change the CSD Line Type to get it to call 'real' analogue lines because by default it is set to v.110, set it to v.32 or v.34.
I have ModemLink (& Internet Sharing) cooked into my ROM and have probably only used ModemLink a couple of times. It does work though.

I'm interested too.
I hate ICS because I can't remotely control my device.
Also, it's simple to get automatical internet connection if device is used as modem.
Nokia in this is really better imho.

Really? I'm sorry but I can't remember.
However I tried just yesterday ModemLink app but it can't work on my touch hd. When I start the app it doesn't anything. I tried also WirelessModem where I can choose to use USB interface but WXP can't recognize the device as a usb modem. I tried anything but with no results.
Please can you update me?
So do you really want to use it as a modem, or do you want internet sharing? You used the word "modem," but from your description, it sounds like you really want to share the internet connection of your phone with your computer. Or do you actually have an ISP or some other service that you want to call? There is no internet sharing app on the touch HD? Try ICS Control maybe?

I really like to use my device as modem.
I'd like to go to Network Connection in WinXP and double click on a network link and push on "connect" button, compose *99# and go to surf the web.

Does it have wireless? If you use ICS control, and use the wireless to share the intenret, you can use active sync on the usb connection for remote control.
