Can THE XDA II be used with outlook and lotus notes? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi,
i've just got an XDA II and am synching it at home with my outlook.
At work we use lotus notes, so is there any way i can synch with both computers and maybe keep things seperate?
Cheers

Yes you can do this. I use a product called mNotes from Commontime who are based in Derby (see www.commontime.com). This will automatically create a new mail account for you so you will end up with an Inbox for Outlook, an Inbox for Notes and an Inbox for SMS. The beauty of mNotes is that its very tightly integrated with Notes and highly reliable with Notes replication. Its also cheap (in terms of business software) at £50 per client.

Will this also import and add calender items and contacts from both?
Cheers

yes
However it will use the same data store for contacts and calendar so items will sync from outlook to the pda and then to the Lotus Notes.
Talk to your Lotus Notes admins. I'm currently rolling out an XDA solution for syncing Lotus Notes over GPRS using a package called OneBridge Connect. It's secure and very good. We have just rolled it out to our top execs and it's all praise so far.

This is free from Microsoft, it's a connector link for using outlook on your desktop to get to your Lotus Notes servers.
Beauty of this is, if you can install Outlook at work you can use it instead of your Notes client, and you then use activesync to do the business for you.

The advantage of mNotes is that you get *everything* and much greater control over what you're replicating. It also works over the 'net, either through ActiveSync or GPRS (I do this myself.) Further, maintenence costs just 25% of the retail price (and there's plenty of bulk discounts at 10, 50, 100, 250, etc licenses) and entitles you to 24/7 support and access to download all new versions of the software as they appear =)
Don't bank on getting support from M$ for anything, or from Lotus for a M$ app...

How about other Lotus Notes application?
I thinking of accessing the office LAN through wi-fi connection, and perhaps besides Email, accessing through a couple of LN applications.
Have any one tried Mobile Notes client in the XDA 2 or equivalent?
regards,
Henry

mForms (www.commontime.com) allows you to use Lotus Notes applications on your PDA =)
Someone at [email protected] can talk to you more about the exact capabilities of mForms.

need advice on PIM

Hi everyone
I'm looking for a replacement for outlook on my desktop which woulld allow me to sync my emails, contacts, events etc with my xda 2.
many thanks
ps: I must be able to sync my emails (located on the desktop) with my xda otherwise I might as well keep on using Lotus organizer.
Many thanks
brimful
if you want to use activesync then i think it's outlook only but there are others
http://www.commontime.com/ProductsCadenza.htm
What I need is an app that I can install on my desktop that can replace ms outlook 2000. I want the same functionality as outlook but don't want to use that particular ms product. I'm currently sync'ing my pda with lotus organizer which is a really good prog but unfortunately hasn't got an email client built in. What I need to be able to do is sync everything that I can currently sync with on lotus organizer but with the added functionality of sync'ing my emails also.

Activesync with two accounts - Exchange Server + Outlook

I've just started using the Outlook Domino connector to enable me to use Outlook to access our Lotus Notes server, and more importantly, sync my Notes inbox, calendar etc with the i-mate without other third-party software (I was previously using mNotes from CommonTime which didn't totally satisfy my needs).
Whilst I'm now thrilled with the Outlook/Notes/i-mate sync scenario, which is working beyond my expectations, I'm a little hesitant to set up my Activesync to Exchange Server Account (from Club i-mate) which I also use for private email because I'm unsure whether this dual server via Activesync scenario will work (and I can't jeopardize my Notes mail / calendar integrity to check).
So, has anybody tried using Activesync to syncronize with their PC's Outlook inbox / calendar etc, PLUS a server sync with Exchange? What happens? Do you just end up with two Inbox items in Activesync? Does all your email etc from all accounts end up in the same PPC inbox (and then both accounts)?
Any first-hand experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi,
it is not possible to do both with ActiveSync. If you configure ActiveSync for server sync it no longer synchronizes with Outlook locally.
You can use IMAP or POP3 for your additional accounts, I am using Exchange for my main account and IMAP for other accounts and it works fine.
Okay Softworkz, that's what I was afraid of.
Unfortunately Clubimate don't allow POP (or IMAP) access for member email, so it's one or the other for me then.
Thanks for your comment.
Ooooh interesting - what was up with mNotes? =) Version 3.5 is out soon by the way - and I'm working on some stuff for our new website..
Hi Madkat,
I used mNotes on my original XDA and now my i-mate with great success for ages, until I made the mistake of creating categories for my contacts. Once I happened mis-type a category name and that was when I discovered that I couldn't delete them - at all.
No matter what I did I couldn't stop rogue categories from appearing in the drop-down list. After removing all contacts from the rogue category, and then deleting it on the i-mate (or Notes, it didn't matter), the rogue category would still appear in the drop-down list, and in the add / remove categories sceen as [category name] (not in master category list), or words to that effect. I also played around with the mNotes config app which is installed on the device (which was just about all I could find in the user manual relating to categories), but the manual didn't match what was installed (guess it hadn't been updated for that section), and I wasn't successful.
I actually posted a question on xda-developers about it, but wasn't able to sort it out. I just became frustrated in the end. I'm not sure I'd go back to it now because I'm so impressed with the Outlook Domino Connector and not having to use Notes for my e-mail at work - I hate notes as an email client, especially with all the 'customisations' our IT jerks have done; we don't have rights to do anything - can't even create rules to move mail to other folders based on content anymore. It's a shame they don't upgrade to Notes 6, but there you go.
TBH I hate Notes as a mail client too!! If I didn't have to do any Notes development I'd be using IMAP on the Domino server & Thunderbird on my PC.
I think it is worth mentioning, though, that during your 30-day evaluation you are entitled to full tech support by email and/or phone - bit late now though! D'OH.
i just do not want to open another topic....
i have a pc with win xp and ms outlook... ms outlook is set up with an exchange server for all items (email, calendar, tasks etc)
is it possible to sync, via activesync, my windows mobile device with the content of ms outlook on my pc? the purpose is to have the same calendar, tasks and contacts on my phone WM device also...
thanks

Syncable Alternatives to Outlook?

I am having fundamental difficulties with making the calendars from Outlook 2003 and my Wizard sync in a manner which I can rely upon.
What I need is a desktop calendar solution that has a consistently reliable sychronisation with a PDA counterpart. Is there anything out there that can do this?
Lotus Notes
Lotus Notes and Commontime MNotes (www.commmontime.com). Rock solid enterprise level synchronization.

exchange mail2web
try using the exchange option from mail2web.com, best of all it is free and you are not tied to a pc or a laptop. and your calendar/contacts remain online.

Apologies I should have been clearer! Yes I mean Lotus Notes, I can find software to do one or the other but not both like I could with the software for my P1i.
Many thanks
Ant
I figured you meant lotus notes. I haven't been able to find any software that will do it. I've heard intellisync does it but i never got it to work on windows mobile 6.1. There is easy sync pro which might do both but its like 60 bucks.
For both Outlook and Notes you can use softwares like XTNDCONNECT PC (v6.5) or EasySync Pro V4.2.6.
It works fine for me.

Both gonna cost you around 60 bucks
I'm using Commontime mNotes Desktop to sync with Lotus Notes. It is working very well. There is a free trial at www.commontime.com
The only issue is that this is a yearly subscription software.
Thanks for all the info people I was playing around with different components last night and was looking for a way to have a single piece of software do the syncing from both Notes and Outlook directly to my WM device. I have access to Lotus Easysnyc and this works great to get my cal out of Lotus Notes on to the X1, but it only has Lotus Notes as a datasource and not Outlook.
XTNDConnect will expose both Lotus Notes and Outlook as data sources but as mentioned its 60 USD to purchase, its the same as Easysync but provides hook ins to other data sources unlike Easysync which appears to be limited/licensed to only Notes.
The current solution I have running is Easysync for my notes cal and Activesync for contacts etc out of Outlook - not ideal as difficult to get both to autosync on connection but it works for now and until I get fed up and purchase XTNDConnect
Many thanks

Interesting, I have EasySync Pro 4.2.6 but I do not see Outlook in the data sources, how did you get Outlook in the datasources? I only get Outlook with XTNDConnect.
Thanks
Sorry I made a mistake : You are right.
EasySync and XTNDCOnnect PC can work with WM & Symbian phones but only XTND can sync with Notes and Outlook.

Froyo and Outlook Tasks and Notes

So what's up with Outlook syncing in Android 2.2? Why is there no simple notes application on this new version of the OS? Why can't it sync with all Outlook features as it did in version 1.6?
It looks as though I will be forced to use Google docs and use something to sync that with Outlook. I use Outlook notes and tasks for work and really need them back on my phone.
I just needed to type and store a quick note on my phone and discoverd that there was no native application for that. Will there be a solution for this in Gingerbread??
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
no native.
i use VCOrganizer (tasks, calendars, notes contacts and categories)
(use only 1 way contact sync or u find doubled contacts on the phone)
it works also with outlook 2010 64bits
i treid many but this is the only one i found that sync also outlook notes
not free

...feel your pain. This has been my biggest challenge too coming from years of (relatively) painless Outlook to phone syncing with WinMo phones...but I am loving this more and more every day!
Basically I ended up "moving to the cloud"...using CompanionSync (worth the $$) to auto sync O2k10 to google.com (includes tasks) and EverNote to sync notes. DropBox for documents and folders. Tasks appear in the google calendar on the due date.
syncdroid.net
This problem (and a full list of potential synchronisation solutions) is well documented over at http://www.syncdroid.net/
Does anyone know is there have been any further developments towards getting all of outlooks features to sync with android??

I use enhanced email. Not sure if it supports tasks and notes, but the developer is very active on his forum for enhancements.
