what is the correct backup option???? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I use XDAtools to backup my debice memory to PC drive, but when I bring the rom back on my XDAI, I get only the orignal base rom not the programs I installed.??? Any help would be appreciated.

The best $20 US you'll ever spend on you PPC is Sprite Backup.
Get it here:

FYI

PS: Sprite is THE best - HP puts this very same software on all its new iPaq's BTW.

Thanks for the tip Jbmneaf, right direction, I found the Sprite Clone which is exactly what I was looking for, something that would image my XDA and restore it exactlay with all programs ect...

jmbneaf, or anyone who knows. Sprite Clone is exactly what I was looking for but they only sell min-10, love it but I don't need 10 copies. Does Sprite Backup do anything similar to Clone, from what I am reading it sounds different (more backup some files not image you PPC). Any help would be appreciated ( I emailed sprite to see if they would sell me a single license - but got the reply "sorry minimum 10 copies", oh well).

Best Backup program

Hi guys, I like my phone the way it is at the minute and its taken ages to setup (the handwriting settings and stuff).
Anyway, I need a good backup program that will make an exact copy of my phone on my computer (like Activesync 3 did - how I miss it) so that I can feel free to try new apps without having to worry about them screwing my fone and having to hard reset from scratch.
I tried some kind of Sprite thing once that seemed to pretty much kill my phone so I don't want that again :/ Any ideas?
Hi mike, couple of prev threads here on same topic - inc my comments

Cheers dude. This forum moves so fast that I can never remember where threads are, and I never have much luck with the search function :/
Anyway, can SPB copy to PC? It's just that I don't have a memory card (My wizard fried my memory card in under a week and the replacement still hasn't got back from Hong Kong).
I don't trust Sprite after last time and it's too heavy/complex of an app for what I need. Any other ideas?

Spb doesn't write directly to PC but a full backup takes less than 16mb. You can copy the exe to pc after it's finished.
sorted. the spb site was unclear. cheers
Sprite backup writes directly to the PC and/or the memory of the phone. So far it has saved my A$$ twice!

Found a way to back up TXT messages

I have searched the net looking for a way to back-up my TXT messages on my Universal.
I have finally found a way but its not brilliant and hard work.
If I use SPB Back-up and back up just E-mails it backs up the TXT's as well.
I wanted to know if anyone else knew of any other ways of doing it.
I would really like to be able to see them of the PC.
PPC Backup or something like that does it, its free and the developer is on these forums, I may have got the name wrong, but it should be easy to find.

Yes, it's pretty useless to use Spb Backup for this task when there're much more lightweight and, mor eimpotantly, free tools.
In addition to the highly recommended PIM Backup, I also recommend http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...edition_sms_organizer_to&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I use Jeyo, which works absolutley perfectly!

This is by far the best, better than Jeyo.
I use EasyHelper Contact+SMSBackup... u can backup & restore from PPC to yr SD without using any PC...easy and convenience...
when i flash new rom and need to restore my SMS..i have prob with jeyo..
Jeyo is excellent
Jeyo is just what I wanted I was looking every where for a program that does just what Jeyo does.
I must say I obviously didn't look hard enougth because I never knew there were any programs that did msm massages untill a few days ago.
Thanks so much every one!
your all great

Things to keep in mind?

Hi guys..
I just got my first ever smart phone, Touch Dual, and I wish to look into it, so I have a few questions.
Since I would like to edit registry settings, edit the cube etc. I would like to know what I should be aware of? What software would come to my aid if something fail and I need to restore the phone?
And which application could you recommend for edit registry, and other settings?
Sorry for these newbie questions, but as soon as I get these things up and running, I would do anything to contribute to this forum.
Sprite backup is the way to go for..backups, 10 day trial period if memory serves, you can restore forever;
To edit the registry, you can use the regedit module of Resco Explorer.
if your worried that anything you do might completely kill your phone then dont worry... apart from flashing a new and it going wrong, a hard reset of the phone will factory reset it and fix most problems
my touch dual is shipped with sprite backup (on a software cd). maybe you can also check whether any other useful utils available on yours.
Thanks for the replies..
My phone was shipped with the backup software, just installed it - seems to work like a charm, except it couldn't save some Messenger Live files, but they didn't seem important anyway.
Anyone other recommendations?

yeah..its so cool that they give a registered copy & not a trail for the sprite backup...its a life saver for us folks who flash & tweak a lot!
(btw...the sprite backup is a HTC version....whatever that means)
I think thats because you can only use it on a htc device?

best backup

hey im going to flash my rom to the latest one stated on the HTC website.
i have a HTC HD2 and i was wondering what one out of all the WM back up software there is out there is best and will back up the most..
what im really looking for is one similar to the symbian one by nokia where it restores your phone exactly how it was including settings and programs.
i know there is Sashimi, spb backup, Sprite backup, SKTools, PimBackup, spb clone, Resco Backup.
i have loads of reg tweaks and modified files and would like them to be restored after my rom update.
i know that sprite will not allow you to restore after an upgrade the rom..
spb clone looks good but not sure if it work and don't want to buy it if it dose not do what i want..
thanks

The best thing to do if your flashing a new rom is to re-install all programs/tweaks. do not restore them after flashing. Restoring is only ok as a back up on the same rom if you for example messed up something & had to Hard reset.
Although you can backup & restore yor PIM data & messages with any of the apps you mentioned. I pesronaly use SPB Back up.
What about favorites, and email settings, ring tones.. or registered apps?

Favorites ok.
The rest not recommended.
will any of the above software enable me to reinstall purchased software (like items from the marketplace)? otherwise i don't see how to do it.
I use Microsoft MyPhone
Does contacts/messages/pictures/documents... does not do applications - but if you've got a large enough SD Card you can just keep a back up of the cab files you've installed in a folder (that's what I do anyway).
With the registry - why not make a back up of the registry and pop it into the backup folder or something?
yeah i like Microsofts MyPhone, its realy handy and with free data i sync up every morning.
with programs i just try to install as much as i can on my micro SD card and with the new markedplace version you can default that nice one.
registry tweaks is not that bad to restore for me, so not a problem here
Phattypab,
A 2 second search of this forum got me this...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633387&highlight=backup

PIM backup? you can add as much or as little to backup.
TBH settings and configs are relatively pointless. If you only have a couple or so email accounts then it is little trouble - especially with nice HD2 keyboard.
I know it's nice to have it all setup, but just write down a list of the things you have to do - hopefully you will not be flashing all that often - and things can go wrong if you try to apply a bad registry setting or general setting.
STill, back it all up then selectively restore is another option. Bit by bit until it messes up.
Messages+contacts are key IMO. everything else is not critical, especially if you keep cabs and use Tom's auto-install.

Registry backup across a ROM flash is definitely not a good idea.
Hi guys, I wonder if SPB backup's "full backup" also backups the softwares that are installed on storage card?

Can SPB Backup perform a COMPLETE system backup?

After speaking with a friend about a biweekly hard reset "schedule," I've decided to research the eversopopular application from SPB Software, which is their backup application, SPB Backup.
I've heard many good things about it, in terms of reliability, consistency, and the easy to use interface.
Now, having said all of that... are there programs that allow for a COMPLETE SYSTEM BACKUP & RESTORE? As in... all of the modifications, applications, registry, etc. I have now are SAVED, BACKED UP, and capable of being restored onto my device without consequence.
Is SPB Backup the ideal program for this? Please, feel free to offer your suggestions below... thank you in advance.

Smart ass.

Don't know about SPB but Sprite back up has saved me a couple of times, only downside i can say is that if you have a moved start menu items around once you restore you'll get the custom links you've made plus the once that came stock with the rom.

Thank you for the feedback. At this point... anything is helpful.
I'm just trying to do a little research in the meantime.
I'm probably going to buy SKTools, alongside SPB Backup... then again, Sprite does have a more "up-to-date" software... more likely to be updated.

Yeah, I figured that out last night...
After much discussion and consideration, I finally caved and purchased SPB Backup.
It works really, really well. Quite simple too.
Sprite maybe good, but I certainly can't complain about the user-friendly interface that SPB Backup has... even a complete moron could perform a backup.
