I have been using my new o2 Exec in many different cities in the UK but not once have I been able to use 3G.
1) How would I know I am connected to 3g as I only see the GPRS symbol.
2) Has anyone used this device in 3G?
If the device is connected to a 3G signal, the network name would appear as 3G O2 - UK instead of just O2 - UK.
Also the little "G" would change to a "U"
I have a 3G signal on O2 in London a lot. A very strong signal at Waterloo and I even have one at home in Camberley (Surrey). The Vodafone 3G signal in Camberley/Farnborough is very good.
I get 3G at home (Didcot) and have also elsewhere (eg Reading, Sheffield, various parts of London). Don't get it at my workbase, but that is in a rural Oxfordshire location.
Other 3G service at home are 3 and Orange. No sign of any 3G signals from Vodafone or T-Mobile.
The only time I have even tried, West End of London and I had a U signal with Orange... just no-one else with a Video capable phone to call...
Well it must mean they have given me a GPRS SIM because at the time I was asked do I want a 3g or GPRS connection - which I found strange.
I have not had 3g reception in Leeds, Oxfordshire.
3G SIM's usually (in my country) have a BIG "3G" on them. Check. Can't believe you;ve never seen a U if you do have a SIM.

Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but have you checked the device settings to make sure that it is not locked to GPRS?
Settings, Phone, Band tab.
I leave this set to auto most of the time unless the phone has a borderline 3G signal and keeps switching from 3G to GPRS all the time.
If you find that this is greyed out, hold down the reg 'end call' button until it 'un-grays' its self ;-)

Hi all,
i work in a place that have the 3G(UMTS) signal verry poor.
Well my JASJAR switch the network from GPRS to UMTS all time... and i lost a lot of calls.
My question is... can i stop the UMTS network for a while ? in order to have only the GPRS network active all time.
When i am in a good UMTS signale place i will reactivate the UMTS network.
Thanks in advance.
Denis
hi, you can goto start>settings>phone>band> then select gsm for network type.
Cheers.
Great !!! ... we will see how it's work.
For now it is in only GPRS.
Thanks a lot
Denis
Hey all,
is there anyway of stopping wm6 from connecting to gprs other than deleting the connection?
while i'm under 3g umts coverage, i would like it to be connected as the data is free... but when out of coverage or when my hermes decides its only going to join the roaming network (where i only get gprs), i get charged data.
any ideas guys? couldn't find much in the search. must be searching for the wrong thing or there doesn't seem to be a definate answer. ie, will allow umts, but not gprs etc. most seem to disable data all together.
anyone with Three in australia will know that Telstra charge a lot for using roaming when not in 3g coverage. there must be someone out there with the same dilemma?
Cheers,
Bill
can you just force 3g band only in phone setting?
possibly. at the moment everything is set to auto. so it defaults back to gsm (telstra network) when umts is unavailable. i just dunno what setting to pick for Three's umts. even then there is only one option for UMTS only. umts(2100+850) otherwise they are paired with gsm.
Any thoughts?

There is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in the roaming network..old at&t
Hi
There is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in the roaming network you are in.
For the last couple of days I have been unable to connect to the 3g network in Ft. Lauderdale. If I do a soft reset I see the 3g icon for a moment then disappears comes up with no service then comes up with a edge icon or just g icon. Download test confirm an edge connection. I have had this problem in New York as well but thought it was just a local outage. I had to deselect the 3g icon on the comm manger just to get a phone signal. Then I would have no problems and could use the phone and have an edge connection
Is the new at&t trying to close out all of their old accounts and force us to migrate to the new at&t?
I have a 8525 with black satin light. Radio 1.54.07.00
Thanks
Scott
When is set to choose the network automatically very often don't call , I think he did not know to choose between 3g and 2g.
If you have any solution please reply me.
Thank you in advance
you must set the 2G or 3G network in setings/ wireles network/ mobile network
it search only for network provider vodafone, orange, cosmote or other
