Extra Notification Icons on the Navigation Bar ? ie 'G' - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi, i've had my XDA II from O2 for 3 weeks now and have a few questions.
I sometimes see icons in the Navigation Bar that aren't described in the manuals:
- [G] 'white square with blue capital G' sometimes appears momentarily and then goes again.
- when connected to my PC in the USB craddle, i get to see the "Connection is active" icon (<- over -> icon with signal strength), but I expect to see the syncronisation icons?
Many thanks in advance.
PS device has latest O2 UK ROM (v1.60.50).

The little [G] means that GPRS is on but why it goes away again is strange unless you dont have GPRS on your account, this is the same for all the smartphones/PPC, as for the other thing not sure don't have a XDA II.

Actually, I too have this 'feature' (problem). When rebooting the Pocket PC Phone Edition (XDA II) 1.60.36 WWE it sometimes show the G Icon. On my COMPAL AR1100 it always shows the G(PRS) icon.
The GPRS is activated and well wrking on my account and phone.

The "G" only appears when GPRS is found and started when the radio starts.
Sometimes when the phone is turned on, you might get connected to the GSM first, but GPRS might not have been found thus no "G". When you don't see this "G", you'll normally have to wait longer when trying to connect to your GPRS services. And sometimes this "G" only came on after 20 or 30 minutes or even longer after you turn on your phone.

[G] on start radio or [G] on start GPRS

Georg, I'm using your Tweak and set to "Search GPRS on strat GPRS connection" instead of "on start Radio". However, I noticed that my BT icon have since disappeared from the main screen. Is this normal?
There's an option "Higher priority for audio media streaming -> eliminate clicks". What does that do?

Hi there people.
I have a Tomtom ONE v2 device.
with my old phone, i would pay a yearly subscription to get the traffic updates. this would work by bluetooth pairing my tomtom with my phone (K800i). tomtom would then get my phone to GPRS data from TOMTOM about where all the traffic issues are..
But when i try to do it with the X1i, although it will see the phone, when i try to access the data and get an update of the traffic, it says: "X1i The required features could not be found for this phone"
.
Any help would be appreciated from you guys out there who may know how to sort this one out?
Traffic updates are important to me
Thanks in advance
Does anyone have any ideas?
surely a phone such as this should integrate with TomTom?
Hi,
I believe this is because Microsoft removed Bluetooth DUN (Dial up networking) from Windows Mobile 6 - This has been replaced with PAN / Internet Connection Sharing.
TomTom currently only support DUN and not PAN
Aparently DUN was removed and the operators were able to add it into their ROM if they wanted to, just not many carriers did..
I have not got the exact threads to hand as im at work and they are bookmarked on my home PC, but if you search this forum (or google) for "Bluetooth DUN WIndows Mobile 6" or "BT DUN Windows Mobile 6" there are some threads which detail some fixes - I think there may be an aditional CAB file and registry tweaks required to get it working...
If you cant find them ill post back on here toinight with the links I found..
Cheers,
Craig
Wow, thanks, I have found a few articles about installing a CAB file
WM6_BT_DUN.cab
Hopefully it is as simple as installing it..I will have to wait till i get home to try this...
You are a star for pointing me in the right direction. Pints are on me!!!
Not a problem
I have been looking at this over the past couple of days, would you mind letting me know how you get on with it and if it works?
Cheers,
Craig
big smiles around here...
it works..
top marks!
thanks
I installed this too just now, but DUN isn't listed in Bluetooth Supported Profiles
what tomtom do you have?

That's irrelevant. DUN should be listed in Windows Mobile before anything is connected.
easy tiger
For me, all i did was install the cab file as mentioned above onto my phone, soft reset, and then tried paring my tomtom to my x1 and it worked.
cab files is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1351044&postcount=21
(for pairing the phone has to have bluetooth on, and is visible to other devices)
comm manager: settings:bluetooth: mode:
The pairing was done from my Tomtom One V2, not from the phone. The phone just accepted the pairing.
On a tangent:
Remember though that using wifi at the same time as bluetooth turns bluetooth off..
but it can be fixed by reading this thread:
[FiX] Bluetooth turning off with MortScript - xda-developers
My X1 also does not show up a DUN profile
comm manager: settings:bluetoothrofiles
but heck, it still works!
Hi, I have followed the instructions and my tomtom go 700 now sees the X1 properly. However I have some questions:
To setup the data connection, what phone do you select in the list on the TomTom? Or what custom settings should we use to connect to the internet from the tomtom using the X1.
Thanks,
Stephane

Greyed out GPRS logo?

I recently bought my HTC Touch HD and I was wondering what this greyed out GPRS logo means:

}
I am not sure if it affects the connection, but I think I can still call and be called, but not receive text messages. Although I haven't really tested that yet. I already tried searching the manual, but it doesn't mention anything about it.
I have installed the following software and updates on the phone
- Official HTC ROM upgrade
- Microsoft .NET CF 3.5
- TomTom Navigator
- HD Tweak
- TF3D Theme Maker 3.3
- Sprite Backup
- Pocket Sudoku (game)
- I244 Atomic Cannon (game)
I am not using internet on my phone yet.
Can somebody explains what this greyed out logo actually means and does to my phone?
Thanks in advance.
i had this recently but it was because i hadn't paid my bill!
think it means you have no internet access due to it not being allowed.
i thought it was a taskbar glitch
i had it for the first time the other day but only when i left coreplayer
i assumed the screen was having trouble coming back frm the display correctly
Its because your internet has been disabled.
You prob wont have mms access either.

I'm with PiLoT on this. I had this about a year ago and it wasn't just with this symbol, also for HSPDA. Phone connected fine to internet but symbol was still greyed out. It was a glitch which sometimes went away with a soft reset. I'm not 100% sure how I eventually fixed it, possibly a combination of changing taskbar/rom etc
i didnt need to soft reset though i just waited a few seconds and it happened
I don't think it's a glitch, I read somewhere that it's a different type of connection, may have been in the Orange guide which came with the phone... I'll try and have a look around for it and let you know
I get the greyed out logo when I disable GPRS Auto Attach using Advanced Config (in Data Connections section). The greyed out logo can be G, or H depending on the coverage at my location. Re-enabling GPRS Auto Attach sets the icon back to normal.
The greyed out logo just means that it cannot establish a data connection with the tower that you are currently registered with.
This will be for one of two reasons;
1) you've turned off your data connection (as the user above has)
2) there is a temporary problem with the network/tower

[Q] SwitchPro Widget causes data connection loss

so I have a rooted vibrant and ever since I started using SwitchPro, I've had connectivity issues with my data.
At first, I didn't even use the data toggle on the widget and I was still getting 3G dropped. I tried to add the button to my widget to control it that way and it worked fine. 15 minutes later though, the icon is no longer highlighted as shown in the pic below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
so what I have to do now just to get data to work is to toggle it on and off just to get it to reappear.
in the SwitchPro options there's a box to check for "Data connection" It says "Use APN toggle - if the data connection toggle doesn't work, you can try this"
^ I've tried checking this box but my data connection still doesn't work
- I've tried uninstalling it and everything goes back to normal.
- I'd like to get this working though since the app is pretty useful.
just curious to see if any other vibrant users are having this issue and have found a fix for it. I've read on the forum that some SwitchPro users have experienced this as well
see?! data connection on.. no data on top bar
SwitchPro displayed my connection properly but would not function when I tried to use it to toggle my data connection. If I used the widget to turn off the data connection, I could not get it back again unless I rebooted. I also tried the APN setting, and it didn't help me either.
Maybe e-mail the dev?
I have been using Switch Pro for 2 weeks and this has not happened to me. Maybe it's because I do not and have not used the "Data Switch".
yeah Keslynn, i'll probably try emailing them about it.
jrwin, I've tried uninstalling and using my phone w/o switchpro for a while but as soon as I reinstall the widget I have issues again.
I would definitely like to use the app w/o having the data connection icon there but we'll see what happens

nfc wifi connecting help

ok guys im allocating some nfc tags around the public bar i work at,.
i want to put 2 tags on the main bar that connect customers to our wifi, now i know i can do that with commands however
we are using a broadband system provided by heineken beer company, users connect the wifi network, but then must open theyre browser and click a default webpage that comes up instantly to connect to the network.
so how would i set the tags to
connect to the wifi and then click the "connect to heineken wifi" option on the default page?
Are you sure about NFC with its max range of about 20cm? Either way I would imagine that the WiFi hardware supplied takes care of redirecting the user at login

yes that is the idea, customer walks in touches the bar designated spot and connects to wifi,... we dont want a long distance force connect to every customer lol
the supplied wifi asks for the user to open webbrowser and click "use wifi" before actualy being connected. is there such command to get around this?
im on a secret mission to make our bar android friendly :highfive:
Could this the case?
To restrict wifi access to current customers and to make the connection easier (selecting correct wifi service and keying a strong passphrase) the customer touches the tablet onto the bar mounted NFC device and the network wifi config is beamed to the tablet and the customer elects to process the download and get immediate network access.
This link http://mobiletechglobal.com/customer-cases/i-heiwi/ shows a jpeg of the "Heineken Hub"

But it has a button in the middle of the page saying "free premium wifi" the user must click this button before actually being connected to the net,.

Run "Select Automatically" from Network Operators Settings menu in widget

Hello All,
I live in a part of the UK that has little to no signal on my current carrier.
Sometimes, when I disconnect form my home Wifi my phone struggles to find the Mobile Network.
To solve this, I have to do the following:
Pull notification bar down
Tap Settings
Tap Mobile Networks
Tap Network Operators
Tap "Select Automatically"
This is a lengthy process but it seems to force the device to try searching for the carrier again.
I have Nova Launcher and there are a bunch of settings actions I can have as a widget but none of them seem to replicate this exact button in a widget form
If any of you guys have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
Regards
Harry

I might not understood clearly, but; I use Gravity box's Smart radio feature. You define a network mode for normal network mode and power saving network mode(When you connect to wifi or turn the screen off; it goes into power saving network mode's defined type) and switches automatically after those actions above i mentioned. You can also define the delays etc, take a look at these:
