Just checked and Orange is indeed a 900 MHz provider (you do realize theSX-56 cannot do 1800, yes...?).
Backup all data, take out the SIM, go to the bootloader by pressing the power button while performing a soft reset. Use the calendar button to go to the GSM menu. Select GSM 900 there (using rocker up-down keys and center), and afterwards do a hard reset.
hi there and thanks no it didnt help. i cand find out wether my phone is still locked? i used your instruction yet " no signal" sign
thanks

Hi !
I installed the new PPC2003 Version and used the phone settings. when i want to quit the settings it asks to reboot for band changes.. but i didnt select anything. after the reboot my phone wasnt able to connect to my provider, so i used the phone-settings again to change them to US (but i'm in europe - i wanted to set them back again afterwarts). After the reboot my phone is dead. no pin-code question, no dial AND NO PHONE-SETTINGS. it just wont start again (just the waiting wheel).
i flashed the gsm part with 3.23, i reflashed to ppc2002 3.17, but still no way to use the phone.
what can i do?
Thanks for your help.... Jabba
Open and close the SIM cover and hard reset?
still no change...
i flashed the gsm and the ce part back to my providers files (4.19 and 3.19.01 german)...but still noluck
i can enter my pin number now, but after that the phone app freezes.
AND ActiveSync isnt recognizing my xda anymore....hardware manager has a htc device in its list, but activesync isnt able to find it.
GOT IT...
i used the bootloader (5.22 now) to set my phone to gsm 900/1800 now it works again....
So caution....in the ppc2003 4.00.01 you can set gsm to 900 or 1900 only!!! no way to set it to gsm 900/1800.
when your use start/settings/phone and quit it then ce will set gsm to either 900 or 1900! i wasnt able to avoid that :-(
it is interesting to see that activesync isnt working without the gsm-part working in the right gsm-mode ?!?! WHY?

Dear Sir , How to update my xda bootloader 5.17 to 5.22, I had the same problem after change the band to 1900, I need to return the GSM900.
Please post a link on descriping the bootloader 5.22 and the program download
I think you should be able to set your phone back to your gsm-setting via every version of the bootloader....
just try to activate the bootloader (warmboot(reset) with power button pressed) push your calendar button and select the gsm setting you nedd with your cursor and press the actionbutton (middle of cursor).. it will do a coldboot automatically (i think) so every personal data will be lost.
the 5.22 bootloader was installed with the latest rom. a .nbf file contains both. CE update and Bootloader update.
Jabba
It seems bootloader 5.15 has the GSM 900/1800 option too, therefore we don't have upgrade to 5.22.
By the way, is it possible to write a utility block this page?
Thanks for all, I got it, and the dualband is working again now.
PPC 2003 is stable, waiting for o2 custom make version
After doing that change my phone now has 45% better reception after accidentaly changing it to GSM 900 then going into the bootloader and changing it back to GSM 900/1800
now i have the asia version of the phone.. does this mean if i change it to GSM 1900 to go overseas it will work, or will the phone dissapear?
Have recently upgraded my xda to wm2003. This version allows you to change the band under phone options. I mistakably set it to USA 1900 which has stopped my phone from working. It seems to have changed the Model No: to PW10B1 which prevents me from reloading my ROM. Has anyone done this and resolved the problem?
Regards
Harry
I have two suggestions one is to re-install one of the the XDA Dev. SR 1.1 or 1.2  the other is a hard reset!
hard reset, new rom... both will not work!
solution: (caution this will be followed by a hardreset, so all data on your device will be lost). Go into the Bootloader (press power button and do a softreset), press calendar button and choose your desired gsm mode with your joystick-button... then press in the middle (action button)....this will do a hard reset and your phone will be ok! but dont ever use the "band"-portion of the phone setup application!

Confirming the built-in/added XDA-Dev SER band switching tool doesn't' work or wouldn't have do the trick?
<snip>
Band switching tool included
900/1900 phones have a special tab in the Phone section of the control panel to switch between 900 and 1900 bands. We have included our own tool bandswitch.exe, which is available as 'GSM Band' in the Programs menu. Our tool can switch between all three possibilities supported by the device: 900, 1900 and 900/1800 dual band. No guarantees as to whether your device will really be able to use 1900 if it's a PW10A or 1800 if it's a PW10B, but you can at least try now.
Ok, I've installed the v1.2 version of the ROM in order to _maybe_ be able to switch to 1800 band, which my provider uses in NL.
I have the PW10B1 model. Since I installed the v1.2 ROM, in device info it says PW10A1 iso B1. That would not matter too much, if I would be able to switch to 900/1800, which isn't the case.
I've tried both the band switching tool in the programs menu, and the bootloader thingy, but both wouldn't work, I keep getting 'no signal'. Anyway know if it's really possible to change the band to 900/1800 with a B1 model???
thanx,
Alef
Go into the Bootloader (press power button and do a softreset), press calendar button and choose your desired gsm mode with your joystick-button... then press in the middle (action button)....this will do a hard reset and your phone will be ok!
The above procedure solve my problem. Thanks a lot
By the way I lost all my data but at least I can now used my phone feature again. BACKUP or SYNC you DATA before doing the above procedure
Doesn't give me a choice of GSM Modes
I tried do that but I don't get a choice of GSM Modes. All I get are choices to SD
Try using the opposite button then (Contacts).
Hi,
I changed the phone band to 1900 and I cannot get it back to how it was.
When I start the XDA and go to settings >>>> phone...............It just shows me the hourglass and nothin else happens.
My phone is now dead!!!! I can still use all other featues of the XDA. Just no signal.
Can someone help me please???
The computer does not even connect to the USB cradle anymore.
regards,
Diki
If I recall, you have RSU 4.21 which is 900/1800 ... what was the reason to switch to 1900 ?????!!!
Anyway, try the hard reset ... and more than once if needed.
Have you tried changing it from the bootloader instead of the switcher tool?

First I have upgraded my european MDA 900/1800 Mhz with the american 900/1900 Mhz radio unit. I know, it was a mistake and went back to european RUU and RSU - but my MDA making yet always soft reset. (I can't use the MDA as a phone, because it is turning always off and if I turn it on, it makes a soft reset.)
Is there a way to bring my MDA back to working fine, without Phone-Service? We don't have a Service in Hungary for MDA!
Please help me if YOU can...
when it gets to that point, go to the start menu, to the file explorer (i prefer resco file explorer) and in the windows/startup folder, delete the link to the rsupgrade.exe file, so it doesn't start up with that program running.
Hi sytris,
It does not start up with that upgrade program running. It is just soft reseting itself and coming the today-screen without any programs running. The GSM-Test by wallaby bootloader says OK...
So I'm not sure: If you upgrade, can your battery going wrong functioning? (dead) My problem is like I'd have a contact-problem at the GSM-Card inserting, but I don't have this contact-problem there.
Thanks a lot.
Maybe the band switching has been affected ... try to use the boot loader GSM menu and select 900/1800 from there ... if you don't have much on the device yet, give it a hard reset to initialize the RSU again.
Biso007,
I selected already the 900/1800 in bootloader GSM Menu, that solved this problem not. I did a hard reset too, after that is always this turning off after a while, and at swichting on doing a soft reset.
thnks

Hi
I upgraded my xda to pocketpc 2003 using the Siemens SX56 upgrade. The radio was upgraded as well - stupid. The pda portion worked great but the phone portion said 'no service'. So I restored the ROM backup in the vain hope that the phone would work, now it says 'No signal'.
Ok so I'm the moron, I messed it up, let's get past that. Anybody know how I can downgrade the radio?
help
thanks in advance,

try reading these and if you want more then there is the Search function
I would recommend leaving the down grade option to be the last resort ... any RSU flashing is risky.
When you are in the boot loader screen, does it say "GSM Ok" or not ?
If "OK", Have you tried selecting the right band from the GSM band selector ? (in the boot loader mode press Calendar button)
no service - fixed
>When you are in the boot loader screen, does it say "GSM Ok" or not ?
I forgot about the bootloader. dumb. Ok so I excel at doing this the totally stupid way. Nevertheless, the good news is ... I am back online, woo hoo!
thanks for the input though, if I have further problems I will check the bootloader.
thanks to Rudegar, your input put me on the right path in a windy route kind of way. I upgrade once again to pocketpc 2003 and then flashed the RSU with the version 4.21 from O2. Required a hard reset to work but its working like a charm.
thanks once again to all for the input.
