Some weeks ago, I created aWM2003 ROM based on the T-Mobile 4.01.16 in LumpiStefan's kitchen.
However, I noticed that occasionally some settings which I presume are stored somewhere in the registry get lost. For example, the passwords for my e-mail accounts in Inbox are gone, and so is the "activation key" for Tom Tom navigator (two times, Tom Tom has now asked me to "activate" the software again).
Has someone noticed this too? Is it a common problem in this ROM-version?
Thanks.
I 'm using 4.01.00 ROM and never faced such a problem ... if you are using some house-keeping s/w like clean+ for example ... you may face this issue as some applications use temp files to keep its data and especially if it's stored under tmp, cache, cookies directories.

Hi to all, and congrats for this great site!
Anyway my imate (just bought) comes from some arab country (second hand but new!) and works great except on email dowloads and MMS.
I cannot send any mms. the icon stays forever on the sending icon and never send anything but it stays connceted. Any ideas ?
My biggest problem is the "Inbox": when I try "send/receive" it connects via GPRS and stays on "Connecting....." forever without doing a logon. When I disconnect it stays on disconnecting .... and never stops. To stop the "inbox" program I have to go to the Stop programs option and stop it manually. Explorer works fine and it lets me go to webmail to check my mails but... that is not what I want.
Since I bought the machine I have made it to dowload mail only after hot resetting the machine. I am seriously contemplating upgrading to the new rom (from 1.66.00WWE that I have now to 1.72 Norwegian) maybe this coul solve the problem. OR MAYBE I HAVE TO REINSTALL THE 1.66.00WWE BECAUSE THIS ONE BAD.
ANY IDEAS ?? PLEASE HELP ME ??
I think you still have some wrong setup in the connections and MMS registery keys ... if you still don't have much on it, make a hard reset and skip all the default setup in the extended ROM ... then apply your operator setup.
Thanks for your reply. I did several hard resets until now (latest five minutes ago). If I skip all the initial set up at the beginning I will not have the software for the camera, MMS, bluetooth etc. but the email works. How can I then install the camera, MMS and BTooth sofware afterwords ?
Thanks for your rep!
well ... I meant the initial operator setup not the whole ext ROM .. but anyway, since you got your e-mail working ... install the attached file on your device ... run it and unlock & unhide your ext ROM ... copy the required cab files from "\extended rom" to "\My documents" directory ... lock & hide the ext ROM back ... soft rest then run those cab files ... they should be
CameraRC132_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
MIDI56.sa.CAB
MMS1.6.0.14WWE.CAB
P.S: maybe you have different versions, but the file names are the same
Wow, you opened up a new world for me!
Thank you so much. I did not solve my problem yet, though.
I explain:
I did everything like you told me and everything is fine: I can install the extra applications I want from the extended memory.
Now the problem is that I am not able to Loggon to the email. Only once in a while it works. That is:
When I log on to the Inbox and I do send/receive it goes on to the "Connecting....." and blocks: it does not "Logon" nor downloads any email. When I press "disconnect " it shows "Disconnecting..." and blocks there. If I want to close the inbox I have to go to "Stop programs".
Very strange. I had a QTEK 1010 for one year and never had these problems.
Maybe there is a way to substitute the inbox program ?? Please help me and thank you so much again.
is it MS Exchange server account or POP3 ??
POP3. Normal account. Has always worked with Qtek1010 !
unfort. all my experience is with MS Exchange servers ... hope someone familiar with POP3 can help
Thanks so much anyway you have been of great help!!!!

VoiceTags are stored in "\windows\commandmodel1.bin".
Putting this back after hard-resets does work, but the VoiceTags will only appear once you re-sync your contacts again.
Don't yet know where the SpeedDial entries are held.
Many thanks to the person that told me about it.
Thans for the info.
Concerning SpeedDial, my experience with hardresets on WM2003 was that all entries were broken even after contacts re-sync.
This after restoring backup files from xBackup or Activesync.
Don't know yet about the behaviour with WM2005, since no backup applications were availble till recently.

Yeh, from my experience with an older HP Jornada 928 (PPC-2002) I'm somewhat doubtful that the SpeedDial numbers are recoverable. I think they used a GUID or similar that was never identical even after a soft-reset of the device. At least the Exec/Univeral's SpeedDials remain after a soft-reset - which is one step forward. I tried looking for modified file dates after changes, but couldn't find any.
Just checked a full registry dump for changes after modifying Speed Dial entries - nothing visible.
Sorry if this has been posted somewhere but I searched all night and could not come up with anything for a fix, just a couple of people having the same problem.
I have a Cingular 8525
Since I upgraded to the new Cingular Rom (2.06.502.3 AKU3.3 with radio 2.7 and SPL 1.04) my outlook will not save any mail settings. I can enter the mail setting and retreive/send mail, but as soon as I do a soft reset, All the settings have disappeared. Like mail accounts have never been set up yet. Even if I use the Cingular Push, it is the same way. Outlook accounts dissapear after a soft reset.
Does anybody know a fix for this. I would like to keep using this rom because everything else works great. Need help starting to pull my hair out over this one.
Same problem here
I have a HTC Tytn with a original ROM version 1.18.255.3 (07/22/06) and with Radio Version 1.03.03.10 and the i have the same problem. I customize a new email account and after a soft reset it desapears.
Another thing i noticed is all the text messages that i have received/sent that were deleted, after a soft resent all of them appear again???? This is very strange!!!!
Thanks!
Pedro Fonseca
Here how did i solve this problem...
webphilux,
I solve this problem by deleting all the temporary files and folders that are related with Outlook.
I had some files and one folder in \Windows\Messaging and i deleted all of them. I also deleted some files that were in my storage card (files related with outlook/messaging).
Try this out...i hope it works for you like it worked for me....

Yesterday I suddenly lost all settings (not files).
It was a routine day. I power off every night. In the morning, all settings are lost:
HSPA cannot connect. I need to run the setup of the mobile operator data (touch the data connection of the settings->Wireless Control tab)
Wifi lost their SSID and pwd.
Exchange lost the password, but not the server name etc.
Windows live and hotmail lost my credentials.
Inbox lost my POP3 accounts. However, the POP3 accounts are still present on the Sense Messaging tab.
Anybody has similar experiences? What might have triggered it? What could be done when it happens? Yesterday, I created all my POP3 accounts afresh, and re-type password to every place listed above.
It just happened a second time.
Sense messaging still knows the account exist, but details (server, id/pwd) are lost. I found it easier to edit the account in Sense, which will re-create the account to Inbox (last time, I did it in Inbox, and it won't allow me to use the same account name -- it says account already existed).
And I noticed that MalekoUK has a similar experience in this thread.

In my second case, I pulled battery becuase it hanged during Sktools backup. I don't remember the details of the first.
You can solve easily your problem with sashimi and makisu applications by bengalih.
Install sashimi and its plugin makisu on your sd card, run sashimi and go in "customized plugins" and run makisu
here you can save your email and wifi settings in 2 (or also one I think, but am not sure of that) xml files
when your settings are lost for some reason, you can use makisu for providing the xml files you have created and, in few seconds, you have your email and wifi settings back.
I recommend you to learn the usage of sashimi....a "must have" application for me!
Greetings
lost email settings
it happened to me after I unistalled swype. I suppose swype is the problem here.
I use official ROM 1.66
Yes I experienced the same thing with swype installation on italian 1.66 stock rom, but I solved in few seconds with the xml previously created with makisu.
That doesnt solve the issue though. Only takes me a minute to enter everything back. Just shouldn't disappear in the first place.
this has happened to me a few times...weird and annoying...

Do you know where the email, wifi and data connections are saved? If I know where they are in the registry, I can manager them myself without sashimi.
happened 2 me today.
All,
I've a problem with the exchange server settings. It looks like my admins had pushed the new exchange policy this afternoon. All of a sudden my phone is asking for a password. I had installed the "Stay Unlock.cab" which worked perfectly so far. Now, I'm getting the password prompt when i unlock the device.
But the actual problem is, when I enter the password it takes me to the password screen and asking me to enter a new password. When I enter a new password it fails saying "An Error occurred saving password settings."
Now, I cannot access my phone. I have so many applications installed and I haven't backed up some of my settings & data. So I am hesitant to do a hard-reset and wipe out 3 weeks worth of my work/customization.
Help please!!
Thanks
Nash (TmoUS HD2 - Stock ROM)
I end up hard resetting.
after, 10 times of invalid password entry in the lock screen, it automatically wiped all my data.
anyway I installed hspl2 and installed energy rom, which is much better and beautiful than the stock rom. I am re installing all my applications now...
Thanks
Hello All,
Now I have a weird problem. I could install all the apps and run it properly, but the moment when I sync my outlook with the corporate exchange account, everything stops working. It looks like the Exchange setup is blocking unsigned apps & I could not install any cab files anymore or start an already installed program like CHT Editor. If I remove the email account, everything works fine again. Has anyone come across this problem?
I'm not sure what was changed in the Exchange server. Can someone please help?
Thanks in advance.
Right now, I have Kumar's ROM & I tried Energy ROM too and it looks like I cannot get around this issue. If I remove the Exchange account everything goes back to normal. I also have "Exchange Stay Unlock.cab" installed which doesn't seem to work anymore. Is there anyone else having the same issue?
Is it possible that the exchange admins put a policy to your telephone that its not possible to install software. ,Maybe that is the problem. Then when you delete email, also delete this policy and then its possible to install progs
It looks like it, before & after deleting the exchange sync it asks me to restart. after deleting the problem goes away. Is there anyway to change exchange's behaviour/policy?
The main problem is not just the installation, even the installed apps don't open anymore. Like the "Arkswtich" task manager which I use all the time or any unsigned apps I think. Opera works fine.
could you tell me, what/how I should ask my admins?
Hello All,
It looks like the policies are being updated and I cannot run or install the any unsigned app. I tried to install the cabs to "Remove app lock, unsigned app, etc..", but I can't seem to install these cabs too. Now, I can't even open the registry and update the policies key manually as I can't open a regsitry editor app.
I tried the registry editor from PC (CeRegEdit) and it won't let me update from that too. I totally stuck with this problem now.
Is there way to sign an app (cab file) or make it trusted?
Thanks
I'll continue to update this thread as no one else seem to have this problem.
I used "msigner.cab" to sign couple of cab files and tried to install and it still failed saying "untrusted...". So, I spoke to my admins, those guys plainly said they don't support windows mobile. Now, I don't have an option.
I wonder, why microsoft would enforce a policy on a wm6.5 devices?
Next step.. I reflashed again, installed all the cabs I needed and setup my device. this time, I'm hoping that I don't have to reboot (I know it's tough ) after syncing up with exchange. I'll sync only the emails (in Exchange) and others through the pc (contacts, tasks, calendar).
Finally, I installed all the reg editors before connecting to exchange. Then I synced only the emails with the exchange server and before rebooting the phone, I used the reg editor to change the key (HKLM\Security\Policies\Policy) values as mentioned in other forums (sdkcerts) to 0. Now it looks like its permanent and not changing even after the reboot!
Thanks

Yes I too need to know, I am suffering with the same problem
Thanks in advance
Update I think http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/...curity-policy-for-windows-mobile-devices.aspx can help in resolving, never tried it though
sorry, it is in the "HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies" folder.
I changed the following keys..
00001005 to 1
00001006 to 1
Let me know if it doesn't work, I can export and email you the policies key from the registry.
