Battery Time - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hello
Just wanted to ask other xda II users what there battery times are like.
I've had mine two weeks and have found times getting steadily worse. Today i've had the phone on from 8am to 6pm and its gone from 100% to 9%, i've had 40mins call time and use a bluetooth headset, i've not used it for much else today, do you think that this is acceptable???
-Steve

Hmmm mine will go for about 2 days with blue tooth enabled and if i hardly use it. Switch it on for any length of time and its a different story. I think the battery life really is poor.

I think its really good.
In standby mode i can use it for 3-4 days.
But if i use it roughtly (bluetooth, calling, SD-cardread, watching movies, playing MP3 etc..) it works for like 2-4 hours.

Mine has got better as it does with this type of battery (to a point) I get about 3-4 days between charges.
Pete

Mine can stay on for around 5-6 hours with the screen on running bluetooth for the phone headset and the gps and running tom tom all the time,
I have set the backlight to turn off after 2 minutes though, i found if the backlight is left on i get less than half this run time

i think that disabling grps and bluetooth and
making sure there are no running programs is the best way to
start if one wish to know the batt time
backlight should only matter if the device is turned on

I'm a bit heavy phone/pda user. Stock battery isn't acceptable. So I got myself a backpack and overall battery time is great! Almost double as compared to before...

The size of your xda II is doubled too eh?

If you buy XCPUscalar you can adjust the processor speed. l find that reducing the speed increases battery life without a significant reduction in usability (in terms of speed). Check out http://www.immiersoft.com

Battery lifetime

Hello.
I own a Htc Advantage with WM6.
Ive been noticing that at dinner time my battery is low.
I have BT always on and backlight at mximum but since Im in holidays I barely use GPS and phone.
Is it normal? Does it happen to you?
Best regards
Deiota
I also find battery life inadequeate for my use (but I must admit that I'm too addicted to this device, so I use it almost non stop throughout the day - as long as I'm not doing other things that is).
I solve this problem by buying a second battery. However, even the second one could not last till the end of the day. I store all application in my MD at the moment (long story on this, but I might shift it back to SD card later), so it consumes more battery as a result.
Carrying the second battery is no problem since it is so thin and tiny. Just put it in the pocket.
I got mine from ebay, shipped out of Hong Kong. It's really cheap, and has a one year warranty.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for you reply.
Any other opinions?
I was afraid that mine had a problem, but perhaps thats a commum problem, right?
How do you solve it?
Best regards
Deiota
If you have your LCD brightness on maximum it will quickly drain your battery. Lower it. Maybe half way? I have mine set at the 4th lowest setting. It is good enough for indoor use, and if I need to use it outdoors, which is fairly seldom, I just set it higher.
All day usage (12 hours), with a lot of GPRS and phone calls etc. my battery goes to about 50-60%.
I used to have much better battery life -- could go a whole day and still have 30% left. When I switched to AT&T, battery life seems much worse. I was on T-Mobile. Upgrading to WM6 seems to have made things even worse. Any solutions?
one observation on the x7501's, if you have ANY meters on (today screen- ilaunch, spb etc) it will make a big draw on the power, have seen it drop 30-40% overnight (while off)
turning off the meters (still running ilauncher, just no meters), and much better battery life.

Battery

This may not be an answerable question but it doesn't cost a thing to ask.
I have a used Elf I bought a couple weeks ago. If it is functioning properly and battery is functioning properly what is best and worst battery life I might expect. I know there are a lot of variables, but I'd like a ball park estimate regardless of how your or my phone is set up.
What's the longest time between charge and the shortest you've experienced.
I am breaking in a new battery 18 hours is my best. And sometimes I can see the percentage charged actually drop.
Thanks
Depends on what you are doing with it. My HTC Touch Enhanced only lasts about 4 hours if i have WIFI and Phone on and am using it constantly to watch videos, play games or TomTom Sat Nav. But if its not being used and just has the phone on in standby them it goes for 4 days+ with a few calls or texts. I can often see the battery charge dropping before my eyes so dont worry to much.
In summary WiFi eats the battery and having the screen on and turned up bright takes away the charge very quick. If you just use it like a phone and stop playing with it you will find it will last longer than most mobiles.
Hope this helps
A big handycap of the touch is it's battery mine using wi-fi, tomtom, phone calls and sms last about a day but if i listen to music or watch a concert/video than it lasts about 8h i also must say that i had my elf overclocked and they say that it's battery life is dropping also due to this. I'm now trying something new and don't have my elf overclocked just to see what the batt. usage is...... Can anyone tell me where to buy an 2400ma battery for elf?? I can't use e-bay
It all depends on your usage really...if you use only the phone to make and receive calls that too on light usage....a fully charged battery should last at least 48 hours. But if you use the phone to stream media (youtube etc) or browse, or listen to music and you have extensive phone usage as well...be prepared to get a good ding in your battery life. Given this type of usage, your phone wont last more than 6-8 hours. Wifi and Bluetooth also drain battery big time.
Just a thank you
I appreciate you guys responding and hope more will jump in.
If I had to choose between the size and weight of the Elf and the a better battery life, I'd take the size and weight. Having said that, I moved from an HP RW6815 to the Elf and was really surprised by the battery life of the Elf. I guess I didn't do my due diligence .
Of the 3 main weakness of the Elf - battery life, cpu speed and memory - battery life appears to be the one that not overcomeable.
I read somewhere that battery technology really hasn't kept up.
It will take some management but I'll certainly continue to use the elf with pleasure.
2009 will be a great year because a new technology will be out offering battery charges up to 6400 mA! which is technically 5 times bigger then the current 1390 mA ones But i dont know if the new technology will be used to create those batterys especially for the "old" htc touch
At least i hope it!!!

did anyone get a day on the battery

gone in 8 hours?
I just got it today. and it is already for sale. Android is so crappy compared to WinMO. I dont even know how to sync that thing with a PC
Sent PM's to both of ya!
would it work with t-mobile??
Nightmate. 3 hours with the GPS on and it died. Had to find my way home with blind luck.
3 hours with a gps on is not to bad. Wifi, bluetooth and GPS are all extremely power hungry and will all kill your battery if left on. This is the same with any device.
A brand new battery will not give you much life. You need to use it a while -- after several cycles, it will give you much better results.
Obviously, you work for microshaft and your job is to spread lies in order to boost sales on a product that is clearly getting spanked due to extreme inferiority. NOTHING is worse than winmo, and right now, NOTHING is better than android.

After being fully charged, I can listen to music for four hours straight with my Nokia 5800, have the GPS on for two hours, and surf the web with 3.5G for an additional hour - and it still has 90% of the battery left Compared to the X1, which runs out of juice in a day pretty much regardless of what you do with it... I was going to buy the Magic when it gets released here in Sweden shortly, but if the battery is crap, I might wait for the Samsung I7500.
lol.
90% on the nokia battery scale, which is really about 5% in reality....
Honestly, nokia are well known for fecking with their battery indicators. Was doing something similar with the N95 and from it showing only 1 bar missing, it went down to 0 bars in under 30 minutes....
As for this magic, i've been lucky enough to have one since an early FW and HW revision, back in February. Have no problem getting over 1 day on it regularly with the way i use it, but yes, Wi-Fi on, or GPS for any length of time, and it drops quickly. These are power hungry and use the same power, if not more power than talk time, and having more than one on will drain the battery very quickly.
no better and no worse than any other smartphone available at the moment, and it definitely gets better over the first few weeks as a few cycles get into the battery...
Hi,
In my case, 2 - 3 days. Details of my HTC magic job;
- 3 or 4 calls every day but short duration , totally, 10 min
- wifi 20 min every day
- play music 10 min in the metro
Nothing else, this is a lowest job for it and in my case, i think the duration is according to this use. Anyway, i have not got any data price and my htc magic has not got too much network traffic, only by wifi.

For how long D2 battery lasts?

Hi,
I have diamond, and thinking to get diamond2.
I have a question for D2 owners.
How is the battery life on D2, because the original battery for D1 was terrible, I got the extendet one so it's ok. But as I know there is no extendet battery for D2. And the stock one is just a bit bigger then D1. But the screen is also bigger on D2, with drains more battery, I think.
How long the phone lasts with moderate use? Also is there a difference with 6.1 and 6.5.1 rom with battery drainage?
And maybe someone had D1 and now hase D2, so whats the + and - compared?
Thanks
I have had both. The TD2's battery is considerably better than the TD(1) in my opinion. I'd say the TD2 would be at about 30-40% charge once the TD(1) run out.
I think my TD2's battery is pretty good, as long as 3G and bluetooth are turned off. Other than that: abysmal (Not quite TD1 bad, but almost)

I'm getting around 90 hours. I recharge when the battery reaches 40%-50%. Generally bluetooth, wifi, and cellphone radios are turned off. I use my TD2 as PDA.
I find the D2 battery life on WM6.5 much improved. I seemed to be always charging it but now, it's less critical. Also, with all transmitters turned off, the lifetime is pretty good. My phone was on for a week on holiday and the battery was 90% by the end of the week having turned the mobile on for an hour or so to check messages a couple of times.
Of course, turning the phone & WiFi off isn't very practical but it does shown where the power drain comes from - no surprises there!
Cheers, Rob.
am getting 2 days , to 3 ...normal usage, and songs.
got even 4 days with normal usage. Can always buy a bigger battery
My wife got a TD2, and battery lasts for 3-4 days with her usage, and when I used her phone it lasts about 2 days. Not too bad, really.
The longer you have the TD2, the less you "play" with it and therefore the better the battery becomes. Never base battery consumption in the first month of getting your new toy
Cheers, Rob.
On ROM Base 2.18 drained for couple hour.
On 2.16 go 3-4 days with normal usage...
Regards
I have Duty HG R6 and battery drains FAST! Fully charged it lasts less than a day with normal usage on 2G network and everything turned off (BT, WF), few messages and max 2 hours of talking! And one more thing, anyone else experiencing that phone is getting hotter after 5-10 minutes of talking? Sometimes I cant put it on ear because of that...

Same here, 2 hours of talking and battery are gone, all other (BT, Wifi, 3G) are off, no play with device, only talking and some short e-mail read or write.
I search this forum and all users write that device last for 3-4 day ?? But what usage are to last 3-4 day, my phone is empty on half of working day.
And yes, phone are hot after 10-20 minutes of talking, some time my call last for 50-60 minutes, and this is terrible, like radiator on ear.
My call consumes eta 1% for 1 minute of call, (13 minutes , battery drops 11-12%)
Is this normal for this device, i have no answer on this question, but i plan send device to HTC service, because 5 h of talking in specification are far away in my Diamond2.
Maybe we should try some rom with 2.16 base and not 2.18 like miro666 sad. Will try it soon and report than and I'm using 4.49.25.14 radio...
I always have everything switched on with wifi and data access available when needed.
I run a 'lite' ROM, always install all apps to phone mem (Micro SD usage consumes a lot of power) and charge as often as possible.
I am probably what you would describe as a heavy user. I always carry a spare battery and an external power pack.
I need the extra power only rarely and so I usually make it throught an eight hour day on phone power alone with this usage.
Only a Day
I have a standard TD2 with a standard UK 6.5 upgrade.
Battery beeds charging daily. Im not even a heavy user. I make/receive a few calls, send a few texts, check my email and use "Brain Trainer" game for 15mins whilst on the bus going home from work.
The battery is pants!!

[Q] horrible battery life! anyone else?

Hi, I been having the HTC Surround for a little over a week now. I love the look and feel to it (I know OS wise it has a lot of improvements to do but I'm willing to put up with it for a bit, considering its a new OS). However one thing I notice is that it has horrible battery life! The phone last about 10/12 Hrs on a full charge. During this time period, there is no heavy use; tops 50 txt messages send and received, about an hour of music, screen lock (brightness set to low, when on), perhaps 15 minutes of talk time, data connection turn off, about 20 minutes of WiFi (I turn off WiFi when not in use), rest of the time on stand by as mention before (with the screen locked). Another thing i noticed yesterday night was that my phone was charge completely, i left it on stand by and within 5 hrs that i slept the phone had gone a little lower than 3/4ths (data connection was off).
I read a post here that said battery may drain quicker when phone is left in cold weather and i thought maybe this could be the case. However I'm really skeptical because i live in Los Angeles. Cold weather, which is this time of the year, is mid 40 degrees at its lowest! That's not cold! But anyways i guess I'll try putting that theory on a test (imma try keeping it warm, see if it makes a difference)
so is anyone else experiencing horrible battery life? Or am I just an unlucky person who got a defective battery?
THANKS in advance

What "theme" are you using?
If I don't use my phone, it will last for days. Even when I use it through out the day, it lasts well into the next morning/afternoon.
The battery life does get better the more you drain/charge it.

well, I been having it for a week now. I seen no difference in battery life. But imma give it another week or so. See if this works. Then I'm gonna try buying different battery. If that doesn't help, I think I'm going to have to switch back to my Samsung Captivate. I would hate doing this, but this type of battery life is a deal breaker. Today, it was even worse! It lasted me only 9hrs while I was at work, which at least 8 of those hrs it was on stand by!
Sounds like you have a bad battery, bro. I'd get it replaced at the store you bought it from.

yeah, I'm going to try this on my day off which is on Monday. Also gives me time to test out the other persons suggestion
thanks for your opinions. I'll get back to you guys and see what happens.
My surround - now two weeks old is showing much improved battery life. It didn't make it through a day when I first got it. Part of that was due to my fiddling with it and part due - I think - to the battery conditioning.
Now, it is going a full day on a charge. I am also switching off 3G and on WiFi when I am in my office or home. It is a bit of a pain in the butt and I hope that M$ gives up some APIs soon so that someone - cough Bruce Jackson cough - will write an app. We'll see.
I have noticed that the Bluetooth drains the battery considerably faster. Try turning Bluetooth off when you don't need it.

I don't use the Bluetooth at all. So this can't be the problem. but thanks anyways. (I might need this information since I was planing on using one in the near future).
So I notice that now, my Surround does get better battery life. (which is absolutely crazy! since now I have the screen brightness on medium and data turn on lol). I guess the battery just needed to be use and charge a bit more. However, I still think battery life could be improved. (hopefully, future updates will teak some system settings that will do this)
I have also decided that I will keep my Surround instead of going back to my Captivate I wish battery life would be better and the OS to be more "open" but truth be told, I fell in love with my phone haha Then when i went back to my Samsung Captivate, it felt weird. Android felt much slower.
So i gave it a little test; I launched messaging, email, music, browser, etc on both phones at the same time. Turns out both of them launch these native applications in the same amount of time.
I guess what makes WP7 fell smother and faster is the (eyecandy) transitions.
think its the battery
ya i have had mine for 2 weeks now and i think the problem is the fact that the battery is a 1230mAh, and we also have a samsung focus with a 1450mAh battery that will last an exra 2-3 hours longer which makes a huge difference! im hoping htc will make a larger mAh battery avaliable, mine will only last anywhere from 5-7 hours from normal use
I just ordered a Mugen 1300mah battery..not *much* more capacity, but hopefully it helps a bit!
if i dont use my surround (like not using too much 3g, wifi, music, gaming, and just normal phone calls and texts) it can last a whole day and probably a lil more, but when i do too much 3g/wifi/gaming/music it drains quickkkkkk.
and i do hope htc will have a larger capacity battery for the surround soon... 1230 is kinda small compare to other phones nowadays..
but still this has much better battery life than my previous phones (diamond2 and touchpro)
i just find myself carrying the usb cable and wall charger alot in my bag :]
and having a car charger is a plus also.
My girlfreind has had the phone since xmas. Initially the battery would lose its charge very quickly. I had her do a bump charge and just let the battery settle in. She can now go up a third day wothout the need for a charge with moderate txt.
Be aware the quick drop whenn taking it off the charger is NORMAL. Read this thread for a discussion of that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871051

Agree - Bad Battery Life - But not as bad as some....
Smart phones, in general, aren't what I would call great at conserving battery life under any condition. Pick any model of high-end smart phone and tell me who can get more than 2 days (using every trick in the book to eliminate unnecessary drain). Yes, this phone is under-powered in terms of only having a 1300 mAh battery when it should have a 1400 or 1500.
Cut the unnecessary stuff when you are not using it - Bluetooth, WiFi, etc.
You can easily get a day + out of this phone with moderate/mixed use (some talking, some browsing, some multi-media viewing). That's pretty good, I'd say (from my relative experience across many different types of smart phones). I just plug it in every night.....pick it up in the morning and go. Haven't had any issues with it running out during the day.
Now, if you are starting first thing in the morning and running movies, have the bluetooth going, the WiFi on........well, heck yes, you are going to have a battery drain problem. If you want to run it that way.....just leave it plugged in.
Has anyone used a Seidio Innocell 1300mAh Replacement battery? Was wondering if it was worth the investment to improve the Surround's poor battery performance.
Thanks,
So...when is someone gonna step up to the plate and improve battery technology? It really sucks that these phone manufacturers are giving us ALL these fancy features that drain the battery and when we complain about having poor battery life they are telling us to not use all those fancy features...kinda defeats the purpose of buying a smartphone, am I right?
guys .. wake PLZ UP ))
1 ghz (1-2 core cpu ) ..
3.8 and more screen ..
DEDICATED GRAPHICS .
OS .
with DIRECTX9 Interface .
and that all spiced up with 1600 ma battery in best case .
and that you wana to run more then 6 hours on full load ? say THX TO MS .. for NON multitask os .. overwise battery life was even more lol then this

I noticed this as well. As time went by the battery actually started to last longer. When i first got it i used it less than i do now and the battery would die before i even got home for work. Now it lasts till about an hour or so after i finish and get home.
does the surround use the same battery as the HTC desire HD?
Theres an ebay seller that is selling a surround battery and wall charger but the wall charger has a sticker that says: For HTC Desire HD
