Ciao a tutti!
Strange problem this. I've hard reset my XDA II a load of times 'cos my PC is kinda allergic to it sometimes. That's life I suppose!
Normally though after a hard reset the O2 installer kicks in and installs their own programs etc.
However last week it just hard reset - no O2 stuff!
Tried a couple more times but nothing.
Gone too is my MMS program, the PDF readers, and MSN Messenger won't open even though there's an icon. (I tried to download MSN from microsoft's website but it won't transfer in Activesync to install)
The Device information says ROM 1.03.00 USA, ROM date 09/24/03, Radio 1.05.12, Protocol 1337.12. Does that sound OK to you experts?
Anyway, I took a deep breath and steeled myself to 'cook a ROM' at yorch.net but the exe wouldn't install saying something like that it couldn't access a remote program on the device - I forget the actual wording now unfortunately. The SD flashing and bootloaders etc is all greek to me even though I read the helpful files on this site. Decided not to risk banjaxing the whole thing!
So at the moment I have a working XDA II but it is a shadow of its former glory. I tried O2 website for the new ROM but no sign yet. (Does anyone know when that's due?)
Anyway, if anyone can spare the time to advise I'd appreciate it!
Oh, and a tip-top St Patrick's Day to you all tomorrow!
Yup, I'm Irish - despite the address!
Grazie tantissimo
Conor
I knew you were Irish once you said "Banjaxed", I think your problem is with the extended rom, though how you managed to lose it is weird, it usually has to be unlocked to enable deletion or addition of files. If you browse the extended rom you should have all the files that are used on auto configuration start up. Take a look and see what files are present if any. You may need to use a program to make the files visible first though. Take a look around on the forum and search for extended rom.
Extended ROM empty!
Hey - Thanks for that my friend!
I looked up extended ROM on the forum as you suggested and downloaded that little file to see my Extended Rom.
Yep, it's empty - nothin' there at all!
I'm guessing I wiped it while tentatively trying to upgrade the ROM.
Does anyone have such a thing as the files I need to put there to make everything work again? I just noticed the camera is kaput too!
Any help would be appreciated if any of you guys have the time.
Best regards
Conor
Yorch.net doesn't have XDA II ROMs, only for the original XDA. So they won't (or at least "shouldn't") install on the XDA II.
There you go... so that's what happened
Didn't know all that Yorch stuff was just for XDA I !!!
Fekkit!
Now my darling XDAII is WORSE than an XDA I 'cos not even MSN works - tried upgrading but no use!
My Extended ROM is completely nude
no camera, MMS, PDF readers etc - it's stone-age...
Can anyone advise me on my options?
Would the new O2 upgrade help when it emerges? Any news on that anyone?

If you follow this link, look for applecoms post, you can download the entire extended rom then copy it to your extended rom space.

Hi,
I downloaded the free version of FingerClix from clubimate (supposedly 100% discount for clubimate registered users). However, the package I received was titled fingerclix, but contained the Arabic input method.
I've removed the package again, but I've still got an input method at the bottom of the list which is shown as squares (since I don't have the correct font I assume) and I can't find any obvious file to remove or registry key to delete.
Anyone know how to unregister an unwanted input method?
Thanks
Anyone? or is it hard reset time?
Phil
Hi mate,
I had the same prob. Try to install a freeware called "remover". It's a great app and it will let u uninstall completely all the programs that u don't want anymore.
Hi Phil,
This is strange. I've been using Finger Clix for some time now and there is no sign of this program in the input methods. I checked my registry and there is a key in hkey_local_machine\software\apps\Imaginet finger clix. If it is still at your machine. Just delete it.
There is another one in: hkey_local_machine\software\apps\Controlpanel\finger clix.
Maybe there a more but I found those two.
Just give it a try.
Wouter
Hi,
The problem has been solved in a roundabout way by the fact that I just got home and found my imate won't boot at all even though it was OK an hour ago (the same old prob I've seen reported before, where you take the battery out for a few seconds, put it back and the imate boots, but it's hard reset). :-(
@wouterk: It's not actually Fingerclix, but the distribution of it from clubimate seems to be incorrect (arabic input method instead).
@elio: Thanks, I'll give Remover a try.
Phil
OK, Too bad for you that you had another hard reset. Did you try the 1.72 ROM already?
WOuter
Hi,
I'm waiting for the clubimate release of 1.72, rather than go with the t-mobile beta version, my imates only a couple of months old, so no point invalidating the warranty.
It's only the second time it's done it, so I'm not too worried.
Phil
OK. Just in case. I found the last two ROM which I used not very good. The turning on/off of the radio was terrible and so was the bluetooth sometimes. With this ROM those problems are gone. But if you have no problems, don't worry, be happy!
Wouter
Hi,
Yeah I got mine with 1.66 on it already, but it's not apparently very good (not that I don't love my imate, kicks the crap out of my p900 + iPaq 3970 combo).
Clubimate have said that 1.72 should be out very soon, I just wish it fixed the cleartype!
I don't mind hard resets so much, I just resync or restore Sprite 3.0 backup, it's the reinstalling all the apps that annoys me - Kirara Genesis, PocketInformat, Fonix, PocketPlus, SideX/PhoneX, Resco Explorer/Picture, Sprite Backup, 1-calc, Space Reclaimer, ARRGHH! and don't forget 60MB worth of games
Phil
Dear all,
I'm new here, I've had a good look through the forum, but I feel a lot of the information is a little over my head. I was hoping for some advice for my new MiniS out of the box:
Regarding setting up my device, are there any programs I should or shouldn't install? Or anything I should uninstall immediately?
Am I better off with the O2 ROM, or is there another I should flash my device with?
Are there any particularly good pieces of software that you could recommend?
Thank-you very much for your help,
s_h_a_h_i_d
look at htc magician forumpart (topics)
look at htc magician forumpart (topics)
Surely since the XDA Mini S is an HTC Wizard, not a Magician, he'd be better off looking at the Wizard forum?
o2 mini is a magician init
Yes, but the thread title refers to an O2 Mini S.....
He is refering to MiniS mate.
HA HA, Now that the squabbles are over, , I'd like to add my bit.
The best thing anyone can do first off with the MINI S is toss that o2 customised crap right off.
I am assuming you have'nt put too much on it yet
Press the soft reset button. (Under the IR port)
As you let go of that reset button, make sure you are pressing both the comm manager button, AND the voice buttons. Thats the top left side and upper right side buttons.
This is called a hard reset and WILL ERASE EVERYTHING prom the phones memory.
Do the screen calibration and cut/paste bit.
When it say's "Tap the screen to start using your device", be ready to press the soft reset again.
This is because when you tap the screen, a customisation box will appear.
PRESS THE RESET BUTTON, when you see this box.
The phone reboots and hey presto, proper PDA, not o2's idea of one.
Hope this helps.
Just to add to the above, there is a thread on here regarding decent software for the PDA.
Have a look through the thread list and you'll see it.
I would recommend Resco as a decent file manager with some excellent features. Be careful with some of these tools if you are not sure what you are doing.
Other than that, have fun.

Hi Jerry-S and everyone.
I've just got a T-Mobile MDA Vario, the Wizard version of T-Mobile.
Would you recommend me doing the same hard reset so that I can get rid of T-Mobile settings?
My Device Information shows:
ROM version: 1.6.2.4 WWE
ROM date: 11/15/05
Radio version: 01.12.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.23
ExtROM version: 1.6.2.105
Can I update to a newer ROM and if yes where can I download it and how can I update ROM, please?
Thanks for your help.
Rgds,
PPB
Hi BUSPBP,
I am a relatively new user myself and won't offer advice on anything I am not sure of.
I have seen ROM updates on here for other networks but as I am on o2 and running my most recent ROM, I can't comment.
Just to be sure you understand though, the updating of a rom that isn't specifically for your unit has many risks. At the end of the day, it's up to you so just put ROM in the search page and have a look at what comes up.
As for removing the Network Provider software, I would assume that the process is the same for them all, as the extra operator features are installed from an extended ROM.
That's to say, the main OS is installed first and then the extra stuff installs afterward.
If you can replace things that you have put on your phone then give it a go, it'll either work or not.
At the end of the day, if you like the extra things and want them back, do another hard reset and let everything install as it wants.
Hope this helps.
Hi Jerry-S,
Thanks for your help. After reading through some threads in this forum I've decided to upgrade my Wizard with the new Qtek ROM. It now works much faster and I don't have any more problem with Wifi connection.
Can you or anybody please advise what does the ExtROM do and if I can exclude it from the device? Any good in doing this?
PPB
If you think of it this way, it's a little easier to understand.
When the device is new or has a hard reset, the following happens.
(If I get this wrong, I'm sure someone will let me know. LOL)
1. The device powers up and a section called the Bootloader starts.
2. As the operating system is not there, it installs it from a ROM.
3. The operating system then runs and you do the stylus calibration
and the date / time settings
4. That is the PDA set up.
5. After that, another ROM is installed, (If you let it), which contains all
the customised software for your particular phone company supplier.
All it means is that the basic Windows OS is running at the same time as the custom software and the Windows functions are accessed by the company customisations that you are presented with.
Because of this, the processor in the PDA is working in effect, twice as hard and it is slower.
As far as I am aware, there is nothing in this custom layer that can't be done directly in the Windows layer.
I would like to upgrade my ROM also as the o2 ROM is one of the oldest versions released, but as I see it, once installed, there is currently no way to downgrade back to the previous version if something goes wrong. Thats the only reason I have'nt done it.
As for removing it completely, I am not sure. I have seen posts on here reffering to that, but I think it is contained somewhere that you couldn't make use of anyway. i.e. Making use of the extra storage space that it takes up.
I know I get a bit long winded, but I have a bit of a job explaining stuff. LOL, sorry.
Hi Jerry-S,
I remember someone told that we could prevent the ExtROM from installation by soft-resetting before that process, but since I don't know yet what are included in the ExtROM and if there's any good in doing so I haven't tried it yet.
I don't know if the O2 device and network settings have anything too special that you could hardly set. In my case though I've got the T-Mobile version I am actually using Orange, so it's perhaps easier for me to come to the decision. And it's worth it for me. No problem with the upgrade, given that I've unlocked CID in advance as someone has warned. And the device is running much faster. That has even halted my intension of doing the overclock, at least for now
PPB
Comments recieved.
I must admit, I kept looking and looking at the ROM file on my computer thinking errrrrrrmmmmm...............
Well I did it, but I didn't notice any real increase in speed, actually it seemed slower to me.
That in mind I though, balls and put the o2 Rom back on.
As for the EXT ROM reatures, I think the main advantage is that the MMS and Mobile web settings are set for you, but those could be found quite easily.
Hello,
My screen decided to crack for no real reason. Honest.
So o2 being the lovely people they are are sending me a new phone (exec).
It arrives tomorrow and I have to send my broken one back.
Quick question needing a quick fix (ie next hour or so...?!?!):
I would like to save / download my texts before sending the phone back. Now I know there have been loads of posts like this, but I am at work and simply do not have the time to trawl through the posts to find the answers.
Can anyone take 5 mins to tell me where I can find a simple to use, free program that can save my texts? Please???
Thanks
HPJ
try spb backup. I use this and THINK it does text messages.
or copy each text message to notepad
orsend each text message to a friends phone
or try sprite backup
I had same problem and for me SPB didn't work correctly Soo, I'm not impressed with SPB.
It can backup texts and all the rest, but have some problems restoring them ;(
I've tried 4 different backups
Good luck!
Cheers!
Chris
Hi,
Sprite have just released a new version of their software (v5.1) and solves alot of issues with wm5.
Might help.
Matt
Spb Backup (latest version 1.1.2) works perfectly for me - no problem whatsovere backing up and restoring sms text messages. emails, etc.
Thanks everyone I'll get onto it!
got my new qtec 9000 but it seems slower than my XDA exec, whats up with that????
anyway is there a way to backup everything!!!
so say i need to hard reset i can just load my backup and it will put all my progs, reg hacks etc settings all back to the way it was before the hardreset? without having to do any reinstalling etc????
I know it's probably too late by now but just in case...
You could use Jeyo Mobile Extender which is an add-on for Outlook - this will sync all your SMS messages into Outlook - it's on the top of my list for software to buy in the future the demo is fully functional for 14 days i think and should do exactly what you want.
Cheers,
Smiffy.
krismc
SPB does this perfectly, and i have had any problem with its usage, even during beta. others prefer sprite... whatever turns you on.
for SPB, yes, you can do a full back up, completely hard reset your device, and do a full restore and walla back to original condition, only question is, why did you hard reset it if you want it back to original condition.
so i have created:
1. virgin device - settings, tweaks, hacks and over bare bones device, with absolute essential software installed, registered and licensed such as Resco, SPB backup and other mission criticals.
2. perfect device - all desirable applications, settings, folder and software preferences, licensed, registered and running, but no active sync
3. two backups automated per week so that if i accidentally drop it, or do something stupid like dodgy software, I have a choice of 4 restore points (last two backups, perfect or virgin) depending on what i want.
hope it helps.
great info mte!
i need a backup coz my first xda exec had to be returned due to dead cam light, my current qtec one wont active sync until iv done a hard reset so m guessing its not liking something iv done, plus thats going back as iv noticed the camera has around 30 dead pixels.
hwever if i make a bacup of my device now will it also take the problems with it? ie the activ sync problem?
oh and i ant decide wether i like the silver or black qtec 9000 whats ur guys thoughts? currently on a black one with red keyboard leds
oh and if u aint noticed iv got a brand new imate k jam for sale incase anyones interested
My Qtek 9100 with the latest english generic ROM was working fine for months. This morning, I removed the SIM and put it back in. Since then, it won't activesync, I can't drag n drop files to it through Explorer, and when I try to download a CAB file via IE, I now get this error message:
"This device is restricted from downloading this file type."
Any ideas? I don't understand what happened to it! It's like it moved to a very strict secure mode all by itself. It doesn't make any sense!
It seems that my security policies are all whacked up. The device doesn't even see the installed applications in the "Software uninstaller manager" app anymore. I tried rebooting and soft-resetting, no good.
ok guys, in order to fix my problem, I NEED one of you to send me ALL the keys and data info from this registry folder:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\
Please export that registry for me as a text file and attach it here (or copy/paste it), so I can retype it manually on my Qtek 9100 phone (I can't import anything on my PDA atm as I can't download anything to it, it won't let me).
If none of you do this small favor to me, I am screwed. I would need to hard reset and lose everything (I can't back up anything).
Here Goes...
Ok, I am running the latest "T-mobile custom" ROM, ROM version 2.24.10.1 WWE. I should have no policies enabled... I have typed out all of the keys and values under this in notepad in the format name-value. all values should be DWORD. Hope this helps....

Edit: My phone is a t-mobile MDa, don't think that should matter...
Thank you very much, much appreciated.
I have this issue but I can't view the txt doc can someone paste it here or email it me in the body so I can add them manually or if ur really kind email me the cab file. Okay I found that my security policies on my MDA did NOT match totally with the one that was posted here. Little adjustments had to be made in the value of the d-words as well as 3 dwords had to be added.

Merely changing the security Policies as listed in the .txt did not fix the problem
I have this problem too, I can't even edit the registry so I can't even try to put the policies back again. By the looks of things that won't work anyway.
Anyone got a solution that doesn't involve wiping the phone? Not that I know how to do that anyway. I have an XDA Orbit from O2.
Thanks,

Same problem here
I have the same problem (XDA Orbit 2)
Worked fine for the first few days - was able to download CABs etc. Then it just stopped. I've read elsewhere about root certificates. Could this be the problem?
this device is restricted from downloading this file type
I have had this problem on my HTC touch with windows mobile 6.

Restricted Download !!!!! Hum
Hello all. I also have a Qtek 9100 for more than 2 years.
Honestly i never had that problem. And i already flashed undreads of ROMs and software to it.
One thing is that i always have Backup Software for any eventuality. Things can always go wrong.
Tips
First - Try to use Resco Registery Editor, its a good Software to make any changes "Delete/Rename/Copy/Add etc, etc.
Second - Look for Its Right, the TNT Master. It will be dificult to find him as he is getting is Engineer Degree. You can also ask Octaivoi,he is a Wizard Master 2.
Third - Keep an exautive search in XDA Devs and eventualy you all will find the answere.
Fourth - Get a Backup Software, get back all the software that cant be recovered. "Eugenia software can always be recovered". And FLASH a new ROM. There are many, many Beautiful and advanced Wizard ROMs arround XDA Dev.
Hope that any of these tips can help
SOLVED!!! ThankS!!!

first had this problem with the empty "remove programs" list 6 months ago, glad to see this whacked-out solution that works!!
Conclusion: Microsoft Windows Mobile messed up the security settings, so let Microsoft Word Mobile put it back automatically, voila!
And ofcourse, I've read about this "fix" soo many times at so many places, and it works for everyone but me >.< I tried all the different ways theres to it, nothing worked. One more thing, shutting it off and THEN pressing soft reset doesn't make sense. Anyway I tried, and it didnt fix. Still got the file deletion/changing restriction. Can't sync, can't get online, download files nothing ... If only Microsoft cared to fix this. Anyone any idea? Dutch phone, Hi provider, rom version: 1.93.404.1 NLD
A Real Fix
Has anyone on this board found A REAL FIX to this problem?
Because I just got my tilt 6 months ago was doing good and now cannot download, cannot stream, cannot play cellular videos, radio.
I have tried the office word solution. That did not work for me!
Is there a Real Solution?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I'm sorry it didn't work on your device. I had the same problem, no sync, no file copy/rename on the device, no cab install, no programs in "add/remove programs" on my Mio A702 thing. The MS Word solution worked smoothely and now I have everything as it should be. So I can confirm the "word thing" actually works . Don't know why it won't do the trick in your case
Hello All,
I have a new QTEK 9100 and recently went through several issues which thankfully led me to this site. The guy who sold me the new QTEK told me I could get all my questions answered here, so im willing to give it a shot.
1) I installed the Windows Outlook but not the ActiveSync because I was told ActiveSync would have to be removed later for me to upload and use the TCMP program to watch movies. Is this true?
2) I tried to install the GPRS monitor disk afterwards and a window would appear saying for me to do a "Soft restart of my pda" for it to repair or modify the program. What is a soft restart? How do I install the GPRS programs and do I need ActiveSync to do it?
3) I read dutch well but would like to change the programs to english. I read from the user Casablanca's posts that I could use the "lokiwiz" program. Where can I aquire this program and is there step by step directions on how to install it on my QTEK? Or is there a better program and if so what is it and how do I install it?
Any and all assistance is appreciated.
Thanxxx Vinum
1 - no
2 - dont know exactly what gprs program u r trying to install, please more detail, at least the website or something...about the soft reset is the standard reset: use the stylus to push the button in the hole near the infrared in the right side of the qtek...about installations, if u r new to this the easier way is to actually use activesync to install anything...
3 - first of all...if u r not an advanced user i dont recomend to change the rom as any error can kill your device...if u anyway r going to try have in mind that u invalidate your warranty doing so...and some tips: lokiwiz, use last version...read the more u can about rom upgrading, i suggest at least 4 hours (do a search for wizard rom on this forum and read read read)...language change: only way i know is going to first rom version possible (1.05 i guess) and then to your language choice, have in mind that this means double risk as u change rom twice...
and last word: this forum is full of geniuses...just ask what u need be4 doing mistakes...
first of all,WELCOME NEWBIE!!!!
1>nope,not true, better install outlook 1st then AC then do set your email accnt 1st on outlook and then SYNC ur wizard
2>softreset =1. there's a small hole beside the IR just push or click it 2. or you can aquire softreset program here in XDA-DEV(use search pls).to install gprs prog,u do really need to sync it, if it is in .EXE file, but if it is in .CAB file just COPY and PASTE it on your wizard(PDA MUST BE SYNC 1ST)
3>i think for this one,you MUST 1st learn HOW TO's to update ur ROM. my only suggestion is that SPEND MORE TIME READING FORUM IN THE UPRGADING SECTION,IT WILL HELP,REALLY.
AGAIN,WELCOME NEWBIE!

About soft reset, its harmless, its really helpful. I soft reset about 5 times a day, releases all ram and processes, makes your device operate a little faster.

in some moments i htought its all over, and i messed it up, but i got lucky ( and PATIENT and disciplined, and all worked fine at the end. i just can REMIND what the other her said to YOU, THINK, and more than that ASK, i found , in just 12 hours, so many friendly and helpfull people here, its great!
YOU ALL ROCK !
First,
Thanx for all the quick responses I really appreciate it!
I'm going to spend quite a bit of time reading before attepting any ROM changes.
As for the question about the GPRS disk. It came with the Wizard and its called a QTek 9100 Application CD "GPRS Monitor" it says "version A" dec. 2005 at the bottom along with 69H20042-18M.
I know its use is for mobile Enternet and other applications. I just wanted to know if I could install it without installing ActiveSync becuase i was told to take of ActiveSync later to install TCMP.
According to you guys i dont need to remove ActiveSync to install TCMP. SO I'm going to install it, but before I do i need clarity...one thing.
Active is one program and Sync is another, right?
ArtXT reccomended that i install outlook 1st. "done" Then i install the AC short for Active program, right? Then set up my email account. Finally install the Sync program.
Is all this correct? I work abot 10 - 12 hours a day, so I dont have much time to surf this site and have to plug all most or all my questions into one post. Beleive me when i say IT SUCKS! But hopefully it all pays off at the end of the year. In the meantime I'll ask what I dont know and read what I can learn when I can.
Thanxxx Again, Vinum
