I understand that the official release of the 1.6 ROM is imminent. I have seen the pre-release version and believe that this is the final beta release. It has been released to developers.
So, keep your eyes open and it should be here very soon.
Do you know what features the upgrade will add ?
It has improved Bluetooth support (COM ports configurable) and better WAP compatibility.
No major changes, mostly tweaks.

Blackberry Client
Hey any chance you could advise where to get the blackberry client?
my company is very close to going with blackberry as standard and I want a reason to keep the XDA II over the blackberry!!
Your help will be most appreciated.
This version (which is Beta) looks good and works seemlessly with the Xda II.
I don't have any dates for the Blackberry client. Judging by the quality, it shouldn't be too long.
Despite it being a Beta, installation was quite straightforward and easy to swap between Blackberry running on a real Blackberry and Blackberry running on Xda II. (only necessary if you have one Blackberry account per user).
It'll be worth the wait (well, I would say that wouldn't I)

I got this email from o2 asia.So may be we don't have a chance to up wm2003 with final release from o2,how about qtek does anybody know about it?
O2's position on Pocket PC 2003
O2 Asia will not be deploying the Pocket PC 2003 upgrade. The Pocket PC 2003 upgrade is subject to the original design of the hardware and the level of integration of the device, particularly between the phone and pda functions. The O2 xda was not designed to support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and therefore could not take advantage of some of the most important feature upgrades inherent in Pocket PC 2003. After careful evaluation of the costs and benefits and the relatively low impact on the user experience of the current xda version, we have decided not to deploy this upgrade. We are however pleased to announce that we will be introducing significant new features with another upgrade which will include the wireless modem, SIM Toolkit support and the SMS caller ID fix.
Can't be... I hope....
the part about Bluetooth and WiFi is bull****, look at the low-end ipaqs...
They don't wanna tell us, that all WM2003 devices will need to have WiFi and Bluetooth, do they?
If "The Pocket PC 2003 upgrade is subject to the original design of the hardware" how come I and many others are happly running it on our little old xda's :!: Hmmm, maybe they are trying to say it will only be available on xda 2, it would be cheaper for them in the long run.
Its a Bad News
All,
I got the problem after i upgrade PPC 2003, may be my mistake I erase the bootloader. This week i went to KL and I go to XDA helpdesk in Malaysia but i get disapointed with them... they didnt do anything with my Device they can't install the bootloader software. and about this news it's sucks  i feel like change to another device because the donn't have good support after sales service.
Oh no,
I sure hope O2 releases a version in europe!

I may be missing something here - but basically are they saying they are going to provide a small 2002 update, almost a year late, that will provide functions that should have been in the orignal ROM. Functions that many people have already installed because of the generosity and skills of the many enthusiasts here that write killer free aps!!
If it is true
Maybe O2 try to concentre on the XDA- 2( Big competitor SS i700)
Infact only more than 4 months new XDA should be introduced in the market
No time for old XDA- more than enough- 64 000 devices saled in total from May 2002
That why do not wait something special in the next upgrade maybe the Special Developers- ROM 1.2 the best one
This is trading plan, new products- new price-new features -hopefully future- more customers -more profit
It is meaning, we have to change new device for speed, D.Camera, bluetooth, WIFI and WM2003 ??? in the end of this year
Any ideas?

Its not that, because the latest software upgrade to 3.17 and rsu to 4.21 is in fact meant for the UK model. What they're saying is that they'll be releasing the Asian model's upgrades soon. With Asian Carriers Auto-config. Thats my take on it. In the mean time, I did my upgrade last night to WM2003, pretty happy except for a few minor details...
Guys,
Thought I would share this update I received from O2 Data Support regarding Blackberry availability since I'd been chasing them regularly for the XDAIIs.
Still unsure whether or not to invest in the Exec, but if they can get Blackberry going on it then I think it would be a winner for me.
Cheers
Thank you for your e-mail.
Blackberry Connect software is at this moment in time being developed
for the EXEC, unfortunately we cannot give any timescales on the release
date.
The reason on this not being released on launch with the device, is due
to the EXEC carrying the WM 5.0 O/S and the present Blackberry Connect
software only being compatible with WM 2003.
When details of release are available, these will be posted on our XDA
web site www.my-xda.com
Sorry we cannot be more precise with our answer, but if you have any
further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us, we will be more
than glad to help.

Remember, it took O2 and RIM nearly a year to get it right; given RIM haven't got a 3G device yet I'd say it will be this time next year when we see it on Exec.
Sad but true - O2 is at the mercy of RIM, and the RIM Connect team are at the mercy of the RIM Core team
We do run Exchange 2003 - not sure what our plans are to implement SP2 and we are a Blackberry house already. Need to have a word with our global messaging team to find out what the plans are.
Also, when I last looked at AUTD notifications for Exchange 2003 Sp1, O2 said that they didn't support AUTD which rendered the technology useless if you were on O2.
I'd sincerely hope that seeing as they are selling a device that has the capability, O2 would have the foresight(?) to look at accomodating customers who was to take advantage of it.
I don't think Rim will take that long to develop a client - given the current state of affairs in the states they'll be looking to increase their userbase with or without their own hardware and what better way that to incorporate support for newer clients? They'll know the Universal supports the Exchange push technology, but while its still being brought into production why not jump in and keep hold of existing RIM customers by accomodating their new devices.
We will be releasing a new version of Agile Messenger for WM5.0 both PPC and Smartphone versions, that is a complete re-write from the ground up. The BETA will be available in the next week or so, and will be posted publicly on this forum for all of the members to download.
Your feedback is appreciated, and we are quite confident that you will be happy with the new Agile Messnger for WM5.0.
Thanks for your continued support.

No ... a good point and a definative reason to use it instead of Messenger.
Great! Thanks
Cool, I actually just tried to put agile on my wizard yesterday. Everything was lookin good. I signed on AIM and could recieve message, but the ones I sent never made it through. It would also disconnect when the device was in standby for a minute or so, but that was probably the fault of the rom. Use of softkeys would make this program really nice.
great news...
i found that agile did work on my jasjar but the today screen plug in always gave an error..
is there any voip features??? or google talk???
thanks
im so hapey im tring not to cray :,-) i love Agil, sethmw can u add support for cam on Qtek 9000 and Qtek 9100 can u?

Hi,
You were mentioning that Agile is free, but according to the agile mobile website, you have to pay for Agile messenger. So what's up with that? :?:
ozVGA
To: Sethmw
Will be the new version QVGA ready?
Not to be a stickler, but you mentioned the same "Agile rewrite" story in a few weeks and offered me to be part of a beta in a private message... which I still have, dated October 24, 2005, and you haven't responded to any of my emails or PMs since then.
While I'm glad there's finally some apparent progress, I would have hoped to be part of that development to make sure the next version that comes out isn't going to be riddled with bugs that we'd have to wait weeks at a time for updates...
IM+ seemed to have stopped at 4.04 back when I purchased it in December and I, too, have been emailing them with a bunch of bug fixes and feature requests, also without response.
Let's hope someone pulls through with a decent IM for the Pocket PC platform, finally.

Here, here! This is the one area where windows mobile just doesn't have a really good piece of software at any price.
It's a bummer that it sounds like the promise of a revamped version of Agile hitting open beta soon might be an empty one...
Agile Beta
The reason for the delay in the Beta is the fact that it was an entire re-write. Agile Messenger has been in development for over 3 years now. To expect us to re-write the client for WM 5.0 in 3 weeks is a DREAM.
The new client has been in development since late September and will be available for public Beta in the next couple of weeks. Sending PM's asking for it today is a waste of time, because we do not want to release the Beta until we are internaly satisfied with it as a release candidate. The purpose of the Beta is to work out bugs, not to release a version that is not ready to be used publicaly.
Everyone on this forum will recieve the Beta at the same time, which as I said will be available here in the next few weeks.
Agile Messenger for Symbian phones currently has a license fee in certain markets as we develop our billing network.
Agile Messenger for Windows Mobile will be free for the time being and will eventualy be a licensed product as well.
As I said we have a team of developers that have been working on Agile Messenger for over 3 years now, and we currently support 4 operating systems and over 40 unique devices. I like to think that we provide a product that is better then any of the other solutions out there, and we would like to continue to do that. Therefore at some point it is neccesary to charge a license fee, as unfortunately we can not support a staff of developers over an infinate period of time as a charity.
We appreciate your continued support, and intend to continue to provide a solution that is second to none.
For those of you that expect special treatment and early Beta's it is simply not possible as we intend to provide it to the entire community as soon as our internal devlopment team and quality controll is satisfied that it is ready for public release.
Thanks again, and we look forward to your feedback.

QVGA
In response to the question regarding QVGA, we hope to be releasing a version for WM 5.0 Smartphone devices at the same time as the version for the WM 5.0 PPC based devices.
The new version should support:
Push To Talk
Image Transfer
Emoticons
Group Management
Typing Notification
Support for AOL, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, and Google Talk
Amongst a number of other new features, and an entirely new interface.
There have ben a number of internal builds over the past few months, and we expect to be releasing a Beta very shortly.

Does the fact that you are posting on Universal’s forum mean that there will be a version of Agile messenger specialized for the Universal?
For instance on Nokias you have the option Send picture from new, meaning that the software is aware of the camera on the mobile. The other thing that I was always missing on my Nokia, I believe that on PPCs it is even more needed, is the FILE TRANSFER. Will you make this possible?
Thanx
Can anyone post the new version here as soon it's released. Thanks
Hi all, will the Wizard get a processor upgrade in the future or will it stays the same as it is? I just got hired by my fiance's uncle as an assistant manager (in training), and one of the prerequisite to work is having a PDA-Phone powered by Windows Mobile to run a custom-built in-house software to monitor sales and stuff. But the problem is, the software only run "best" on any Xscale based device, and it is reportedly work too sluggish on Ipaq 6300 series. My boss had used the 6300 and gave it up for a used XDA II, where the software runs flawlessly.
I love the Wizard a lot from physical point of view. It's compact, and have a built in keyboard which is necessary for me because I will be inputting text a lot on the go. But the processor left me but no choice to choose another device. So what I need now is a GSM based Windows Mobile PDA-Phone with built in keyboard and compact in size... I know that the Wizard is the only solution for me, but are there any news or rumours hinting about the availability of compact GSM Windows Mobile PDA-Phone with built-in keyboard? I've tried the Universal... And err.. Too big for my taste, and I have bad experience with my previous device, the Blue Angel.
The successor is the HTC Hermes, and T-Mobile is calling it the MDA Vario II in Europe. Here's some hands-on and great pictures. Me wanty!
http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/09/hands-on-with-the-htc-hermes-t-mobile-mda-vario-ii/
 That's it! That's what I've been searching for a while now. I also just stumbled upon this forum HTC Hermes info here.
Wow... It supports 3G too are there any word when will it be released worldwide? As I live in Indonesia. I might just pass on buying Sony Ericsson P990i for the Hermes.
I bought a lot of great apps in the years when Windows Mobile (CE, Pocket PC, etc) was the best mobile platform (1998-2003). I am still using many of them, but now my very good HP iPaq h2215 of Oct 2003 is getting old: sure it still works well, but it has no WiFi, no GPS (the rest of its shortcomings, like no photo, are unimportant IMO, I am already carrying good old light inexpensive efficient Sagem MyX6-2 2005 photophone and Canon IXUS95 2009 camera).
I first considered switching to Android, which I soon dropped; those great Windows Mobile apps have no equivalent in any other mobile platform, neither Android nor iPhone nor any other one. Example: Wikipedia offline with all the images (in the right places in each page) i.e. 4GB of data in my pocket with instant response, much more portable (and faster!) than browsing Wikipedia in Windows XP on the desktop; syncing Outlook Contacts and Excel sheets; a number of powerful and convenient calculators (e.g. RDcalc); and many news readers (but most of those have disappeared, including the best one, AvantGo).
After hesitating I skipped the HD2, hoping a newer phone would come, from HTC or from others, with the fixes and updates that should IMO: better dimensions (120mm/11mm make it too breakable, 100/15 or at least 100/13 would be sturdier), new 2-core 1.2 or 1.5GHz CPU+GPU (that's all, HD2 being already an excellent device).
Now I just discovered that the HD2 has suddenly disappeared from all regular offers in France and probably elsewhere; only a very few used ones are now offered. Is this a sign that HTC (or someone else) is coming with a new Windows Mobile 6.5.3 phone? Thanks to anyone who would know better (sorry if my post is inappropriate in contents or place: Google "HD2 successor site:xda-developers.com" or Google "New Windows Mobile 6.5.3 phone? site:xda-developers.com" or similar searches found no relevant response).
Versailles, Sat 08 Jan 2011 15:15:00 +0100
actually windows mobile is kind of death.
since wp7s is out you have to do it with the the current offer.
so the hd2 is the best.
but if it's too big you can take a look at the tg01
I doubt we will see anything better than the hd2. And also wanted to comment... my hd2 feels a lot sturdier than my ipaq 2215 did. It's very well built. If you're worried, you can get an otterbox defender case for it like I have. Most protective case available, and looks great too.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I just ordered an used HD2 for 231 EUR - Thx a lot!
Thank you both. Your precise replies removed my doubts. I just ordered an used HD2 (here in France, probably FR version) for 225 EUR (231 EUR with shipping).
Versailles, Sat 08 Jan 2011 19:24:40 +0100
you will not regret your purchase.
you also have a go with Android, just to feel how it is like
as far as HD2 is concerned you can still get it unlocked...a number of websites sell it and have international shipping...thats how I got my previous LgKs20 since its a European device and wasnt available in the US.
Also with the option of running Android, Meego and WP7(hopefully) it surely is the best phone according to me in the market.
regarding Windows Mobile 6.5.3: True that MS has stopped development from their side but here on xda we have number of Rom chefs doing a better job than MS which means lots of custom Roms and apps
regarding WP7: that's the next big thing. true that its in the development stage but give it some time and see how it booms and gets hold of the market. Remem iOs was only able to get strong after first 6months of release and considering the fact that WP7 platform already has well over 5000apps in the marketplace...things surely are looking great for MS.
