GPRS on T-mobile UK - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I've unlocked my XDA 2! Now using T-mobile... Works fine, but i have a problem! No GPRS!
Does anybody know the connection settings for GPRS access for T-mobile UK?
Riceman

T mobile settings
:?
I managed to connect to GPRS with T mobile in UK (yesterday for the first time) using the following settings
Tap on phone icon on top toolbar, then tap 'connect GPRS', under My ISP tap 'manage existing connections' tap to edit 'Mobile Web GPRS' enter a name (I left the same), tap next then under 'Acces point name' enter general.t-mobile.uk then tap through next screens without making changes to the finish.
Next time you go to phone icon tap connect to GPRS and your away (hopefully). I used the internet last night and it was superb - not a lot slower than my broadband connection on the PC. I hate to think what the cost is though. Hope it works - be warned - I'm no expert

Another tip, try to find all the text only versions of websites.
Hotmail - http://mobile.msn.com/
BBC News - http://news.bbc.co.uk/text_only.stm
For more links go here - http://pdaportal.com/
Using PDA version websites will reduce the time spent downloading information and also save you money.

Orange GPRS XDA settings for pay monthly

I HAVE TRIED ALL THE GPRS SETTINGS ON THIS SITE BUT STILL CANNOT GET IT TO WORK,
BUT IF YOU ARE LIKE ME.
MY FRIEND AS A ORANGE MOBILE SHOP.HE IS GOING TO GIVE ME THE FULL SETTINGS ON SATURDAY 28/06/03. AND I WLL PUT THEM ON THIS
SITE
i have just got back in, and it WORKS, i have a xda on o2, i have unlocked my 02 xda with the software on this website, it is really good. But the settings on this website for the gprs none of them would work. I had an Orange pay monthly sim card with gprs enabled which, when i unlocked my xda, i couldn't establish a connection with gprs so here goes; here are the settings you need:
on the xda today screen
go on (start)
(settings)
(connections)
(connections)
on the,( when needed, automatically connect to the internet using these settings
drop the menu don and tap (new)
and write (orangegprs)
tap (next)
on the (select a modem)
drop the menu don and tap (oncellular line gprs)
drop the menu don and tap (baud rate) and tap (19200)
and tap next
access point name (orangeinternet) and tap finish
go back to (connections)
and tap (dialing lacations) tap dialing patterms change all the settings to G
tap (ok)
on connections tap modify orangegprs
tap modem tap orangegprs,tap advanced,
tap use name servers, tap use specific server address,
in dns 158.043.192.001
in alt dns 158.043.128.001
in wins leave it as 0
in alt wins leave it as 0
tap ok
tap next
tap finish
tap ok
that's it, you're done, but it's important when you connect to the internet, you must go from the today screen - start - settings - connections - connections (again) - and connect. Once you have connected to the gprs, then launch internet explorer.
If you don't do it this way, the 02 software wants to change all your connection settings back to 02.
Hope this helps you all out.
Please give me feedback
HI dave,
I was just going to post a message asking if someone had grps settings for orange in the UK !!!!!
just like you , i had an o2 xda which i unlocked using the fab tools by xda-developers.
i will get gprs enabled on my sim and then try your settings.
You are saying that, once configured, i cant just click on IE to launch the gprs ?
thanks mate
Hi Ali-Butt
I forgot to say you will b asked for a user name and pass word
leave this all blank and judt tick the save box
cheers mate
i am doing the settings now !!!
can i ask, why you have one set DNS settings and another posts by other chaps have others????
i have seen
dns1:193.35.131.194
dns2:193.35.131.195
are these wrong?
thanks mate
HI Mate
WhenI got the GPRS working with the settings I have posted, when I clicked on ie, without connecting to the GPRS first the settings change back to the o2 settings. How I connect is to go to start, settings, connections and connections again and then connect, then the GPRS will connect then I launch ie. Since then I removed from the xda the o2 smart menu from the add and remove programmes now I can just launch ie and I have no problems, at the beginning when I put the settings in and I was having trouble with the o2 settings taking over, for some reason I can't understand the orange settings were all still correct but would not work so even though the settings were still there and correct I had to start re entering them as a new connections all over again. Hope this helps you out, if you have any trouble please post a message on here and I will be more than willing to hepl you.
cheers Dave
HI Mate
pay as you go. i think
dns1:193.35.131.194
dns2:193.35.131.195
it is pay monthly i think but these work
dns1:158.043.192.001
dns2:193.043.128.001
dave
Hi dave,
thanks for your posts.
i can now tell you my findings.
firstly, i created a new connection with the apn "orangeinternet"
using cellular gprs as the line and 19200 as the speed.
If i click on ie.... it connects first time !!!.. works a treat !
if i click on internet on the O2 smart menu, it tries to connect back to O2....
so quick solution, just remove it from the main screen and your laughing!
so mine is all working without specifying any dns settings. Perhaps its all dhcp , with ip / gateway / dns all coming down from orange?
do you think it will make any difference adding them in?
perhaps faster name resoultion?
cheers dave

I dont know why but i cant setup my PAYG orange sim for gprs...pls help
Orange GPRS
Hi,
I'm a bit of a newbie with the XDA, Ive setup as per the instructions above and I'm connecting ok (i think) - as i can send retrieve emails and surf - I'm just a little unsure as to whether it's connecting via GPRS or just by a data call as I dont get the "G" on the screen to signify GPRS - can anyone help please
Cheers
G
Hi, i have this sorted now. you create a new internet connection and use the gprs setting from the dropdown, the only setting you need is the accesspoint name which id payginternet, all other settings are default... even the orange phone trainers couldnt get it working.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT GUYS, IT WORKS A TREAT!
LAST NIGHT I WAS SO DESPERATE THAT I WAS GOING TO CALL IT A DAY, BUT… I KEPT READING YOUR POSTINGS AND I THINK YOU ARE ALL SUPERB!!!
MANY THANKS TO YOU ALL. NOT EVEN ORANGE KNOWS HOW TO DO THESE SETTINGS.
I need HELP !!!
I have tried to follow various updates here to connect my O2 XDA via GPRS to ORANGE UK. It have the PPC2003 Cooked ROM and hence none of the above instructions are quite what I see.
However all I had to do was:
start -> settings -> connections -> connections --> created a connection called ORANGE with modem type "Cellular Line (GPRS) -> Next -> "ACCESS POINT NAME" typed: "orangeinternet"
Afterthis do NOT fill in anything for userid or password and just select FINISH.
I also had to: Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> select ADVANCED tab -> "Select Location" button -> select Mobile and press Edit button -> Select DIALING PATTERNS button -> For ALL entries select "G" instead of the default "+EFG".
With all above done I CAN connect to internet and even connected to my ISP WEBMAIL but it is slow. I also do NOT get the "G" icon for GPRS.
I am not sure if this is conecting via GPRS or NOT ???
when I type WWW.ORANGE.NET it does say it is connecting via GPRS but I do not see the "G" icon. Any help ???
Also I just signed up for ORANGE UK EMAIL and then tried to via orange.net instruction to configure my XDA inbox but they only recognise a small number of PDAa with PPC2003 connected to a phone via bluetooth or IRD. They do not support PPC 2003 or XDA.
HOW Do you configure the XDA inbox to connect to orange pop3 and smpt server and download mail ???
PS: I can ping SMTPOUT.ORANGE.NET but no pop3 server...
Thanks for any help. :!:
I just figure out what to do to get connected to Orange email.
Simply: start -> Inbox -> Accounts -> New Account -> Type in your Orange EMail Address -> Type in your USERNAME and PASSWORD and select "Save password" -> NEXT -> FINISHED.
That is it. I can connect to internet and email via my INBOX and WEBMAIL.
WEBMAIL is slow but inbox is just OK on the move.
Hi I have a XDA II I have unlatched it from O2 I am now on orange I need to be able to send and recieve MMS, the instructions dont seem to work on my XDA, orange say that I am enabled to send MMS.... can anyone help please Thank you
asking about internet sharing with P3600 and P6500
Hello,
i have learned a lot reading this forum and i am wondering if you know about this:
When my PC connect to internet through internet sharing of P3600 i get H mode (HSDPA), then how can i see the real rate of sharing ?
Is it reaching 10 Mb of local network, or else ?
What is the real rate of HSDPA for P3600 ? And for P6500 ?
(1.6 Mb/s and 7.2 Mb/s ? )
Do you think QUALCOMM of SIRIUS P6500 can support overclock ?
Do you know DNS settings for french orange internet with PDA ?
Thanks anyway. Mobility with HTC is much fun and efficiency.
; -))
I also share this experience about energy saving on HTC P3600 and TYTN:
Many users are complaining about autonomy of HTC. I have check settings of internal cards and everything is set - no saving - in extended settings.
Then, i experienced the setting - energy saving - during travels.
I does work, and i get days of battery autonomy.
The most impotant is to set SD card to -ernergy saving, and Wlan, and Wifi, and infrared, and also two other network cards.
Let me know your experience and setting about energy saving please.

I too spoke to O2 today. I spoke to the guy I normally speak to and he said that they are having trouble with getting PPC 2003 working  Are we all doomed to a life without GPRS  It seems so until I flash my ROM back to XDA-Dev 1.2
I'll keep bugging O2 until they can give me an answer about the GPRS settings. Perhaps a new version of the ROM is required :?:
Gil.
Same here, I do not have those settings, they are settings from 2002, 2003 is quiet different, has anyone got it going and how please.
Leave the DNS settings on Auto and give it a try - mine is working fine. Although I'm convinced O2 had a GPRS network problem in my neck of the woods the other week.
w00t, it works
As cliffai says remove the IP address from DNS and set it to auto detect and you connect OK. And it is way fater
Gil.
:?: go on then ppl post the setting you have for it to work, as mine still will not play ball, if i flash back to the dev1.2 its all working again but I want it working on wm2003
thanks
Please can some one help out with the settings, I can't get GPRS working at all. Can someone just do a walk through, step by step for the slower people like myself.

name for connection: O2 Mobile Web
select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access Point Name: MOBILE.O2.CO.UK

xda-rocks, I have set mine up like that and it still dont work
if i use the se1.2 or even the 02 rom my grps work great

thanks
mine is as follows
02 32mb xda (uk)
my location manchester, uk
Boot Loader 5.14
G325s54
R4.21.00
4.00.01
(the phone call part works fine, just no grps, gsm etc)
rom from ftp://195.64.88.44/ (from what I remeber)
or can anyone else post the same info for there rom?
maybe theres more than one version build etc???
GPRS not working
Yes I have the same problem, my phone works fine and all other functions seem fine except I have no access to the SD card, it does show up at all. I just can not get GPRS going. I noticed that when the phone is in the sync cradle and PC is connected to the internet there is no internet on the phone where as there was with PPC2002.
ANY IDEAS PLEASE..........
Note: I also downloaded from FTP: 195.64.88.44 for rom upgrade.
i can access my sd card no problem, coonect to the internet with sync, its just my gsd and gprs thats comp. dead, with this rom???
maybe you have to reformat your sd card for it to work??, and have you set you internet to use the dial up or you sync connection, i had to change my back to get it back working when i was syncing etc?
I got mine from here...
Server: ftp.zensay.com
user: qtek
passwd: qtek
When it was originally posted
Only thing I did was had to go into the bootloader screen and set the GSM back to 900 & 1800 after I had gone into the band setting screen in the 2003OS
Sorry to say setting up GPRS was a sinch,
APN name
User name
Password
thats it,
I also checked whether PAP or CHAP authentication makes a difference and it connects with either although CHAP is possibly a bit slower to connect.
Obvious question the phone is displaying the the G symbol when you tap the aerial icon? As I said I had all sorts of GPRS problems the other week which I put down to network issues as nothing else had changed - G symbol wasn't always coming on when switching on the phone - and transfering the SIM to my old T39 showed the GPRS coming and going every few minutes.
cliffai, which bootloader etc are you using, and did you upgrade yours by the programme a or sd way?
as mine is still not working looks like i am going back to the 1.2 xda rom then
ps: yes mine is always showing the G in the info etc, so i know its ment to be on gprs, but even without the G i can not even get a gsm connection also?
So SO SO simple
Yes I reformated the card on card reader on PC and yes the phone now see's the card
THANKS THANKS THANKS
Now just the GPRS to go and everthing will be trick..........
I upgraded via SD and the boot loader is 5.15
maybe that has something to do with it then, my bootloader is 5.14?, I going and getting a card reader in about a hour so i will do a sd card upgrade and let ppl know how it goes ltr
ps thanks for the file ciffai
I'm using the same roms as Grim_Evil:
G32s54
R4.21.00
4.00.01
Except I'm using Boot Loader 5.15

My Exec won't browse GPRS!?

It did work, but something happened and now it doesnt!? I've reinstalled the Exec_Connections.cab file that someone nicely posted, I select Basic etc and it runs through the procedure.
When asked I select UK and PostPay and it then reboots my Exec.
My O2 Active connection seems to work fine and I can browse O2's online Active (pointless) website without problem, however when I try to visit an external URL outside the O2 network, i.e. Google.co.uk, I just get an error.
Any ideas?
I'm sure Mike wont' mind me posting the Private Message he posted to me, but I've removed the Usernames/Passwords - if anyone wants them, PM either of us.
The funny thing is that upon adding this, I entered 'Mobile Web' as the profiles name, and it stated that this name already existed!? So I wonder if the correct settings ARE in there, but they're hidden/disabled??
----------------
These are what I use on my O2 set-up
Start/ Settings Connections Tab, Connections icon, Select Manage existing connection.
On The MY ISP screen select Edit and for the name type MOBILE WEB GPRS, for the modem select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) from the drop down box. Press next, Access point name is mobile.o2.co.uk then press next user name is ###### (or if you want to reduce the web download to speed it up and save some cash use the user name of #####, this prevents graphics etc, password is ####### domain is left blank, press Advanced button, select Servers tab, check the Use specific server address DNS is 193.113.200.200 Alt DNS is 193.113.200.201 press OK top rh select Finish and press YES to save changes - Mike
Few more quick questions actually...
I'm shortly travelling to Barcelona, do I have to...
1. Let O2 know what I'm roaming with Online200?
2. How much will GPRS cost me over there?
Cheers, Ash
Try 0870 600 3009 for Customer Care. It's usually a good idea to check for roaming as there may be restrictions on the account.
I can't recall EU GPRS roaming charges off of the top of my head. Sorry
Have a nice trip though.

Unable to connect to the internet on Vodafone

Hi
I bought a Generic unbranded X1. I put my Vodafone SIM in it and did a hard reset as Vodafone have suggested. When it has finished setting up and downloaded the settings from Vodafone I still cannot access the internet in either IE or Opera. I have searched the internet and tried changing the settings but still get nothing.
Can someone please give me a list of all the settings I need so that I can manually set up the connection.
By the way it's a Dutch Vodafone SIM but that makes no difference as internet was working on my P1 and the ANP and user name and password are the same.
Thanks
Ed
same problem, tried the given settings from the vodafone site (business contract).
no results. waiting for a sollution.
ps. my t-mobile SIM works okay.
groet, Steven
This is the daft thing. I put my UK O2 SIM in and everything works fine.
Why is it that Vodafone have to screw everything up. Surely it can't be that complicated.

The best thing to do is to delete the vf settings (there's a reg key that you change to enable them to be edited on this very forum) and then start again from Scratch.
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\<Account> and then modify the ReadOnly key to 0.
One of the main problems is the stock setting of "my isp" by VF, this seems to screw up connect via "the internet" which is what quite a few progs are looking for.
Disable all proxies and check to see if the advanced network settings uses chap rather than pap.
Personally I got rid of all the PAYT stuff and the wap, I never bother with either microsoft or vodafone live services.
Other option is to flash to an unbranded rom..

Appreciate that, but he mentioned something about it doesn't matter that it is a Dutch Vodafone sim. Just trying to be helpful....
Also I suggest using (for VodaUK)
Access point name: internet
User Name Box: web
Password: web
Homepage: http://www.bbc.co.uk/
You get more applications running over the internet APN, only thing which won't work is the Vodafone Live homepage, which is pointless anyway.
Hi Guys,
Had the same problem - until I read something on this forum earlier.
Try this:
Go to: Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Advanced Networking
And change the band from HSUPA/HSDPA to GPRS. Then soft-reset.
The connection settings (as on the website unchanged) from vodafone should now work.. (did for me).
You can then change it back to HSDPA or HSUPA/HSDPA (and it should still work)..
YES at last, you are a star. That has at least got me getting a connection.
My panels update themselves so I know that the phone is receiving data.
My only problem now is that I cannot load any internet pages either in Opera or IE. Windows Live will not let me sign in and neither will MSN Messenger.
No worries - had the same issue on my Dutch X1i.
Do your panels run in the background? It seems mine terminate (i.e. if I activate FB, then switch to the fish, the FB panel terminates).
On your connecting, had that problem with my Kaiser - until I worked out that the Connections applet under Settings-->Connections-->Connections is fussy.
Make sure you have your GPRS settings in "My ISP", and that My ISP is selected under "Select Networks" for "prgrams that use internet".
If you are using a proxy, you'll notice that you can't get a proxy under "My ISP". Don't ask me why MS did this
Set the proxy settings under "My Work" (without a GPRS Modem connection under "My Work". I think it defaults to use the modem connection under "My ISP".
All other permutations (creating your own set of settings under "Select Networks", using a mix of own/My Work/My ISP, proved to be unreliable. Took me months to work that out.
Good luck, let me know the above needs clarification.
Thank you very much Calvin. That has got it all working perfectly.
By the way I have the same problem with the Facebook panel. If you navigate away from the Facebook panel by selecting another panel then it logs you out, however if you just start IE, Opera or Windows Live over the top of the panel then it keeps you logged in.

Nice - only a pleasure
Yeah, I noticed that too so it seems the panels API replaces the today screen with an overlay when you choose a "panel", which is probably why you can have either Today or Radio or Dashwire. Lol.
Ah well, still quite a functional interface I think.
Proxy server
To all of you: if you just switch of the proxy server of your Vodafone Live! connection then all problems are gone. Only thing is you cant't access the Vodafone Life! pages, but who cares about that.

And if you set the proxy server as part of the Work Network, then everything works.. Problem originates (*I think*) where Windows Mobile wants to use "My ISP" regardless of what you set in Connections-->Select Networks. So unless you know the relevant Reg Hack(s), ur effectively stuffed. This might be especially true for things like Messenger.
Drove me nuts for MONTHS. I'm happy to say that mine works now (vodafone live, internet, all applications, everything etc).
Anyhoo, just thinking out the box, setting the proxy server together with your ISP settings (e.g. settings bundle "Vodafone Live!" together with Proxy IP) might very well route all your internet traffic through the Vodafone Network (and presumably firewall, thus protecting your device from e.g. Malware on the 'net.
Ah well, since that doesn't work cause WinMo is fussy, I run Trend Micro as well - Windows Mobile.
hello,
I attempted to use the GPRS cab fix (which turns out to be german settings) and consequently screwed my gprs/3g/hsdpa settings.
Im a vodafone UK customer, wondering if any other Voda UK customers could share all their settings (MMS, gprs/3g/hsdpa) so any other fools like me could attempt to reset the settings!

You would think they would be easy 2 find on Vodafone.co.uk... but check kirkie's post (#3).
My suggestion is delete all settings you can find in "Connections", and start again with My ISP, using the settings (e.g. connection name, Proxy IP address etc).
Keep in mind though, that there is a low chance that hidden settings were changed (which are only accesible through the Reg). In short trying to find what it changed might be a mission and a hard reset might be your easiest option (the fix cab may have altered settings in ur Reg like hidden proxy switch etc etc). The time spent re-installing is peanuts compared to trying to work out what it changed
I know I know - but it happened to me as I tried the same with AT&T fix cabs and sat screwed for a week or so.
yeah i followed what kirkie listed, although it still seems to attempt to dial a VFDE connection (german), and the connections list i can access doesnt seem to be the full list (theres still some german connections somewhere else i cant access)
might just have todo a reset. pain in the arse tbh, got it all setup how i like lol.
anyone know how to go about a hard reset?
else anyone figured out how to edit the registry connection entries?
i rang vodafone requesting the settings to be sent to me, although when trying to install them i just get an error.
well, no thanks to activesync, but lots of thanks to dashwire ...
hard reset and restore using dashwire made my life nice and easy.. only took 5 mins to reinstall all the little apps/panel's i'd aquired.
thanks for the help anyway guys

SPB Free Panel - Weather

Hello guys
I was wondering what your experiences are with the weather feature on the free SPB panel. Is the weather supposed to auto update? there is an option set to automatically update, but for some reason mine doesnt. But when im connected to wifi or active sync it updates.
I have made sure non of the other options are ticked like docked or free connection as I want it to update through GPRS.
Can someone tell me if its supposed to update through GPRS or whether its designed to update only through wi-fi and active sync.
I have a vodafone x1 if that helps.
I had the same problem, and fixed it by either:
1 - amending the MMS settings (voda sent me the settings which needed to be entered manually), if you're getting MMS messages OK then it isn't this.
2 - Change connection settings from post #7 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450502
Not sure which one it was cos I did them both at around the same time and noticed weather updates regularly then!
Sounds like you are using the Vodafone WAP settings to surf the web (classed as MyISP). This tends to block most requests that aren't done via a browser* and instead you should use Vodafone Internet settings (classed as WEB).
*that said quite a lot off apps now run over the WAP APN on Vodafone as they have tweaked the firewall
Does anyone know if I need to change any settings on AT&T? I love the graphics of this app, but it won't initiate its own internet connection. I have to check email or use the browser first to get the weather to update. I looked at SPB forums and no one knows why. Tried re-installing, but that didn't help either.
Thanks alot guys
Your help is greatfully appreciated.

On your Xperia go to....

then select the connections tab
then the connections icon
followed by the advanced tab
Now chosse the select networks button and in the top drop down menu (the connection for programs which automatically connect to the net to use) and change it to "WEB" rather than "My ISP".
Then you need to set up mms again otherwise you wont be able to send messages
