ROM upgrade in Australia - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I just want WM2003 on my XDA. I tried installing 4.00.05 but got the white screen of death. Does anyone know if the Seimens SX56 ROM will work on my phone? I plan not to **** with the radio stack.
Just want a O/S that's newer and not as buggy as the original 3.21 that I had.
I miss my working XDA, it's been 2 long weeks and I finally get my MMC card back so I can flash.
Anyone in Australia got 4.00.05 working or WM2003? Which version you running if so?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

you didn't tell what's your device type and how the 4.00.05 failed.
I'm not sure the MMC can be used instead of SD card, but if yes, then i may advice you to cook a new 4.00.05 ROM at yorch.net and select the .nbf file method. move the file to your MMC card using the XDAtools and flash your xda through the boot loader.
good luck.

My device type was a:
PW10A
3.20.06 ENG (ROM)
3.21 (Radio)
But after trying to install with an EXE self installer became:
G32S54
4.00.05 (ROM)
R4.21.00 (Radio)
One thing I have worked out about the EXE self installers is that they will extract a NBF file to a directory, in C:\Program Files\Programme A\English
so therefore, whichever version you download in a self extracting file contains the NBF file that's required.

The Radio part shouldn't be affected by this upgrade!.

4.00.05 works just fine. The 4.01.00 and AT&T release ROM are even better (except for the stupid noise attenuation everyone's working to try and defeat).
Never(!) use the .exe method for upgrade, you have a much greater chance of it screwing your XDA. Also, according to your post you weren't messing with the radio, but by using the .exe upgrade you have inadvertantly upgraded the radio. 4.21 is the same version as O2 released for Australia, but I'm not quite sure if you're running the T-Mobile version now? As far as I know you can screw up upgrading your ROM as much as you like using the SD method because you can always whack the SD back in and start again, the bootloader is intact and the radio is intact.
I guess if you use the .exe update method from your manufacturer's release, at least you'll have some recourse in that you were only following what they said to do for the upgrade and they will probably fix it.
Use the SD upgrade method to fix your current problem, and you may need to use the Wallaby patch to do that. Good luck.

Best ROM for a QTek 1010 connected to Vodafone Australia
Howdy,
I have a QTek 1010 which I'm using in Australia on the Vodafone network. Which is the best ROM to upgrade my device to Pocket PC 2003?
Device: PW10A1
ROM version: 3.18.04 ENG
ROM date: 05/22/03
Radio version: 3.25.01
Protocl version: 32S54

Use A.30.09, it's the only release version out there. All other versions are beta and have their problems. The only headache with A.30.09 is volume attenuation, but either soon we'll have a fix, or soon another manfucturer will make a release public so we can switch over (hopefully) without that annoyance.

Howdy,
Where can I get ROM A.30.09 from?

Thanks heaps for that! The upgrade worked perfect.
You were right about the volume issue becoming annoying!

Which Radio Stack is the best to use in Australia?
Howdy,
Another quick question. Which Radio Stack is the better one to use? The QTek 1010 Radio Stack v3.25.01 (32S54) or the O2 XDA Radio Stack v4.21 (32S54)?

Official TMO2003 changed to Cooked Rom 4.00.10

Hi everyone.
I had big troubles when I put the official TM rom on my Qtek 1010 as I could not change my rom again and I did not like the TM rom as it had so much crap that seemed stupid if you were not with TMobile, as I am with Vodafone Australia.
I tried everything to finally after every test got some luck, I will try to explain.
Grab the official TM2003 download which has the radio update as well and extract the file, Run the TMO2003.exe and it will install the program to your computer. Do Not install anything to your phone yet. Then go to C:\program files\RUU and grab the file "ENGLISH" and cut and paste to your "desk top". Now I had a cooked rom 4.00.10 from the kitchen that would not load. But if I extracted file and cut and pasted the "english" file from the cooked rom into the C:\program files\RUU where I removed the original file and put on desk top. Then run the Upgrade.exe file in C:\program files\RUU and it will install the cooked rom....as well as the TM radio. I then just installed the radio 4.21 to give me the radio I needed for Australian Vodafone.
Now the tricky part...........
To get the Upgrade.exe to run and find the device I had to put the phone in the cradle, wait till it synced with the pc, then turn off the phone and then turn it back on again as soon as you hear the sync noise then run the Upgrade.exe and then it seems to find the device.
This all seems very strange but it worked for me. As I only have an SD
card of 15MB so I can not do the SD card method.
I am downloading a cooked rom 4.00.05 and I will try to load that and will let you know if it works.....
Hope this is of some help to someone.....
I totally mislead you all......
do not replace the file "english" replace the "NK.nbf" file.....
Sorry
Just tryed the same procedure with a cooked rom 4.00.05 and it fully worked.....Love it.
Note I got a warning that I was upgrading to the wrong version so I left the original TM2003 in tact untill it got to the verify your rom upgrade page then I swaped the "NK.nbf" file.....
Hi Ya Seal, fellow Aussie here.
Thanks for the tips.
Can you tell me what the original model of your qtek was before all your upgrades. IE. on the back of the unit should be a number like PW10a1 or PW10b1
I have a T-mobile PW10b1 (US model) and im not sure if i need to upgrade the radio stack for Australia.
I have read here in these forums that upgrading to the incorrect radio ver can permanently stuff the radio section.

Hi Guys,
I'm in Melbourne, running a o2 XDA that i bought back from the UK. Running Radio 4.21 with PPC v4.20.1081 (build 13100).
Using it on both Vodafone and Telstra networks without problem. Mind you haven't been using GPRS since i got back.

You may use any ROM Updgrade, you may even want to cook your own ROM, but please do not think of performing a radio stack upgrade if your present radio is working well and giving you a trouble free service.
Hi guys,
I 'm in same situation but with higher versions, and can hardly wait to get a new 2003 ROM.
I can't just play with my XDA as I use it all the time for work and it's pretty stable so far. I just also can't tell that the ROM is 'totally' separate from the RUU in WM2003.
So the question is: is there any one here who has gone through a 2003 upgrade for Qtek 1010 to tell us his thoughts after the upgrade ?
I read a lot about the stability of 4.00.16 ENG, but all been written was for O2 R4.21 or T-Mobile R6.xx. Did any one in this region (Mid East) with R 3.2x went into this upgrade ? and what is the current status ?
Thanx all ....
Latest ...
I tried upgrading to 4.00.11 ENG from the kitchen ... no matter how many trys it just restarts and gives the same error message "Can't open USB/com port ..." ...
Do I miss anything ??
more update ...
Tried to cook the new ROM as .nb1 file and used Xdatools from the kitchen to flash my device .... same result :?
Is it possible that there is a ROM protection on my XDA ???

Hi Biso007,
Look at the IDIOTS GUIDE at:
http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3171
and follow the instructions thoroughly one by one and you can't go wrong, it did work for me, I was in the same situation.
Samohile - Thanks. It is good advice to not mess with the radio if you can help it.
My only problem is that my device periodically shuts off. Then pressing the power button soft boots it. I cant tell for sure but it seems that this happens after an incoming or missed call. It seems that other friends using ROM 3.18.04 and Radio 3.25.01 (like our friend biso007 here) seem to have very stable systems.
I can try upgrading the ROM only and see what happens but the information at www.carrierdevices.com seems to imply that both ought to be upgraded at the same time. I notice it is an Australian site. Does that matter? Also, the version of the radio upgrade is a bit confusing, at least from its name. (Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe] ). I wonder what this RSUv1.15 translates into since the name of the exe file for the ROM is nicely descriptive of the version (3.18.04).
Any advice in this would be very welcome..
Well i am using WM2003 4.00.11 and its working fine for me no problem i cooked in the kitchen you just need to read arround this great forum for a whgile on topics such as upgrades and ROM to know exactly what you are dealing with and then you will able to upgrade smoothly.
Hi ARZLEB
I read lots and lots about upgrade lessons but none of them worked for me .... I got an advice to use SD card with bootloader as it's the only working way. Now I wonder why the EXE method was created!!
I see that u got the 4.00.11 working. Did u upgrade it using EXE or SD card. Any help would be so appreciated ... thnx
Well i used the EXE methode the file i cooked in the Kitchen but i didnt change the version i left as 3 at the bottom of the page it works fine i upgraded from 3.XX to 4.XX then i downgraded from 4.00.11 to 4.00.05 then upgraded again all using EXE format so far working great.
i will be honest with you i know about the SD methode very well but never tried it so u have to make more search on this issue.
If you need anything more plz message me anytime and i will be more then whilling to help you step by step...

Faisal sorry for very late reply.
I have flashed my Qtek (bought in Abu Dhabi) with several versions of roms cooked in kitchens (Jeff's and Stefans's), but I have finally settled with ATT release wm2003 Siemens SX56 upgrade. It comes with most of the bugs fixed (except multiple reset bug) and is quite stable. I almost never have to reset it. You can flash the ROM only by SD card method though. You can try it. It's always a good idea to flash using SD card method. USB method using ProgramA is not very safe. I guess the network in Pakistan is compatible with the one in the UAE, so you can safely use it, if you don't mess up with the Radio Stack. My Radio is 3.23.01 and I have no problems with that.

How to upgrade from 3.17.03 to ATT WM2003

I previously flashed my rom version from ATT/Siemens upgrade,A.20.17, to the XDA-Developer's 3.17.03 using usb cradle. This was so I could unlock my sim card. Everything worked smoothly, I can make calls and everything. Now I want to upgrade to the new ATT WM2003 and it tells me that "The ROM image that you are trying to upgrade is not ucompatible with your Pocket PC.
Your current device information:
Model: PW10A1
ROM Version: 3.17
Lang: English
Your upgraded image information:
Model: PW10B1
ROM Version: A.30
Language: Eng
So I tried to upgrade back to A.20.17 hoping I could go from it to WM2003, No luck. Any suggestions? :?
I think the installer is mismatching the version numbers. Your XDA thinks its a PW10A1 which if I'm not mistaken, is the Euro version of the xda - probably down to you using the XDA-dev rom.
A simple solution to your problem is to extract the rom update and use a SD card together with XDAtools to flash your device to WM2003
Why does the RUU package I downloaded say it won't work on my device?
The software in the RUU package checks whether the type identifier in your Wallaby matches the one with the ROM image. So if your Wallaby claims to be a German O2 XDA, the English Qtek 1010 version of the OS will not install. Our tool adaptROM makes this problem go away. (See below)

Thanks maltloaf, I'll try out the XDAtools and see if that does the trick. I'll post my findings.

Changing from WM2003 Beta to 4.00.05 ENG WM2003

I am using the Seimens SX56 unlocked and on the T-Mobile network. I am using the WM2003 Beta ROM and the radio stack upgrade that came with it. No problems.
I am however having memory issues and have cooked a ROM @ Yorch to put some of the stuff I usually install to memory placed in the ROM.
4.00.05 ENG ppc2003 is the ROM I cooked (SD card method).
Questions (looking for a little confirmation)
1. Does it work with SX56?
2. This will only upgrade the OS and NOT the radio stack right?
3. Am I giving up any functionality by switching to this ROM vs. current?
4. Am I missing anything?
I am confortable installing the ROM vis SD method. I am going to back up my current config to SD and then install the new one... Just want to make sure it is worth doing in advance.
Thanks
to answer ur questions,
1. yes it works on SX56.
2. yes it will affect only the ROM part and not the RSU.
3. the only missing feature (if u have it!) is the wmodem application.
4. No
however, 4.00.05 is not so far from the beta ... TMO 4.01.00 or ATT 30.09 are the latest versions. you can extract the nbf file from any of them and try it on ur xda and this will keep the RSU untouched as well.

Upgrade works but only with 2002 ROM not with 2003 ROM

Have been to the kitchen and done some cooking the last night.
Facts:Using SD card for all upgrades
Never cook anything but the Base ROM itself (e.g. no extras)
The upgrade works perfect every time, meaning it ends successfully so that I can do a cold boot to start the "new" ROM image.
ROM version org: 3.16
Current ROM: 3.20.06 ENG
Radio version: 3.19.01
Protocol version: 32S54
Model No: PW10A1
RAM: 32MB
Flash size: 32MB
SD Card size: 64MB
I have been able to switch back and forth between different 2002 ROM's
but every time I upgrade to 2003 ROM the unit hangs on the introductions screen. I see the splash for instans 4.01.19: s "Welcome to T-Mobile"
In the bottom right corner I can see the Protocol version, ROM version and Radio version numbers. BUT there it is and it does not respond to any buttons or even magic words like pretty please with suger on top.
I have tried the following versions:
4.00.33 GER, 4.01.00 ENG, 4.01.16 ENG and A.30.09 ENG
I have no problem getting back to a working unit with almost any 2002 ROM but hey I wanna try it out with a 2003 ROM.
Any ideas anyone? I have been looking around quit a bit but cant see that anyone posted something that helps me out here.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this great forum!

not sure but maybe the 32MB ram is too little for 2003
these devices are pretty rare i think
maybe you should try doing a search for people with 32MB devices
and their exp with 2003 ?

The 32 MB shouldn't be the problem. Using myself a device with only 32 MB without any problems with WM2003 .....
Maybe it's a problem with the Radio Stack...
Nearly all the providers of a WM2003 Release included a Radio Stack Update. Myself i've tested it with the 4.21 and the 3.23. Maybe yours 3.19. is just too old.....
Stefan
Ok, here we go again,
found the Radio Stack Upgrade from O2 uk (V421)
and upgraded witout problem to this one.
No I tried to upgrade with 2003 ROM 4.01.16 ENG but still same thing.
It hangs on boot screen even though it now in the lower right corner says:
G32S54
R4.21.00
4.01.16
I will try to load ROM A.30.09 ENG now.
I let you know how it goes.
/Jonas
Still no luck
Ok I have now tried will all known 2003 ROMs from the kitchen with the same sad result. (hang on boot screen as before)
I now downloaded the official O2 uk release of upgrade for XDAII (Xda_II_Upgrade_v16050.exe) when I unpack this one I find the following files that might be useful ms_.nbf, NK.nbf, Radio_.nbf.
When I try to write the NK.nbf to my SD card XDATools tells me that it does not recognize the file format.
I think I have seen something about this error but I cant find it now.
Im not even sure if this ROM will work. I can not see that this ROM is uploaded in the kitchen either but perhaps it will be?
So Im still stuck so any tips would be great and I keep testing new ways ahead.
/Jonas
hi. as LumpiStefan commended, you need to upgrade the latest radio stack. I think the radio stack 6.24 will work for you. check my posted for the radio stack.
Secondly, the radio stack will work it its specific OS rom image. for example, the radio stack for Tmoble , must match the Tmobile OS. you can not use radio stack built for O2 for Tmobile OS.
Therefore, try to upgrade with matching OS and its Radio Stack. I tried one night with all OS from Tmobile, ATT and OS to come with these solutions.

That´s wrong. 6.24 is for PW10B Models with 900/1900 MHz GSM. Do not use it on your device
