Had a big problem with memory loss so did a hard reset
everything worked great but now for some reason every time i put the xda 11 in the cradle it comes up as a guest
i then deleted the active sync and reinstalled but it still comes up as a guest whereas all i want to be is a partner
any clues
Yeah, just remove the existing partnership.
You can do this in Active Sync WITHOUT THE XDA CONNECTED!!!!
File->Partnership
You can also change the name of your device in Settings->System->About->Device ID
thanks for that Jos you're a star
in fact you're 3 stars
Yeah, you also can have one star or more.
Just donate and help keeping this great site free of advertisements.

Ok, so say I got exchange 2k3 and my Universal in sync (calendar, contacts, etc).
I hardreset the Universal, then I resync: would active sync 'interpret' the disapearance of the items on the PDA as a 'deletion', and then try to wipe out the data on my exchange box as well?
TIA!
Not really.
After you have hard reset your unit, your unit will not be recognised by the activesync that you need to create the relationship again. And upon creating the new relationship, you will be asked if you want to replace, combined the stuff from outlook. Just use combine will do. I did a few time with activesynch, doesn't seems to be deleting stuff. Should be the same with exchange?
all i no is mate when i did this it, recognised the device as a new one and
asks what you want to sync
and then if you want to combine items or replace, <<<<<this happens only when you already have sum info onb the pda after a hard restet for example if you had a backup prog and backed it up that box would pop up when ou connect
hoppe tht helps and sorry if i aim wrong bowt any of it its me first post , and this is what happend 2 me lol

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know if it is possible to work out a way to sync the Tytn with a pc wirelessly if the pc and phone are on the same network?
For example - If I am home and forgot my cable at work to sync the phone to the computer. Is there a way I can map the tytn to find the Activesync partnership via my home wifi?
Thanks
I would say yes as you can activesync to networked devices. I did some searching and found a guide if it's any help.

I'll second that. The less USB connections and cords the better!
I'll try it later, some things are easier in vista so might be pleasantly surprised
you could just sign up to an exchange service

I thought about that but I think it would present problems. I use Thunderbird for my work and not outlook so I am already using the Birdiesync software to sync the Tytn.
Also, I am not interested in syncing mail as much as I am interested in appointments and contacts. Would an exchange service be good for this? Can you recommend a good and cheap/free one?
Thanks
you can try mail2web

I haven't used it, i have my own exchange server but I see it on the boards alot.

I have been using mail2web for almost a year. It is very good and the equivalent of a desktop PC. I can hard reset or install a new ROM anytime away from my PC and sync back all my PIM data over wifi or phone data service. It is still free, try it.

Can you explain how you set up mail2web with activesync so that I can give it a try? I went to the site and took a look but found it hard to envision the whole setup.
Thanks

HTC Sync™ lets you synchronize Outlook and Windows Address Book (Outlook Express), contacts and calendar events on your PC with your phone. It also lets you install third-party Android applications on the phone, and the Mobile Network sharing function as well.

I wonder if maybe this will allow me to root my ARIA? the 2.0.38 or however they show the version numbers had not been seeing my phone no matter what I tried.

I was thinking the same thing as i refuse to register my device just to download sync software, it was not like this when i downloaded HTC_Sync_2.0.38 a few weeks ago, and i can download HTC_Sync_2.0.40 without registering a serial easily and use it with no issues, matter a fact i was using HTC_Sync_2.0.40 to sync my outlook and calender even before HTC_Sync_2.0.38 was released so why make us register the device?
Here ya go - http://gruberphotos.com/download/
used it to get swype on stock non rooted aria, little slow but worked just fine.

Ok, after using this new version i must say that its a step backwards. I like the new GUI and all the eye candy and the ability to install .APK files but it lacks the basic functionality that the HTC_Sync_2.0.38 had.
For instance the old version told you at a glance the number of contacts in outlook and events on the outlook calender, where it is at during the contact syncing and calender syncing. It also gave you more advanced options on syncing.
On this new version Outlook must be set as you default mail client for it to connect with it which is completely bogus. On first connect the device synced on it own using the latest modified data which created duplicated in outlook and my phone, deleted the duplicates from my phone and tried to sync again and it completely wiped the data from outlook, i used the nandroid to restore the contacts to the phone and tried to sync again to get everything back where it was.
A bit angry with the music syncing. The files sync to /Music/ then the full file directory. so if you music is stored in c/:users/username/my documents/music you media wll be synced in the same structure /Music/c/users/username/my documents/music which is more complex than it needs to be. A simple music folder with music/Artist/album is sufficient. Then it took 1 hour to sync 3.8GB of music, that same 3.8 GB takes less than 15 if i remove the card from the device and put in in the card reader.
Long story shorty, im reverting back to HTC_Sync_2.0.40. Sometimes less is more.
Funny that now the new sync is no longer availble on HTC site and the link was changed back to HTC_Sync_2.0.38

Hmmm...
You probably want to get on the ball with finding this software as it really has been pulled from the site. Some people have upped the new version for download, so do a search, grab it while its hot and sit on it if you want to sideload with the software (without rooting).
Edit: You can grab it from this thread if you don't have it already

I downloaded this one, the one from HTC's site (before it was removed) and even tried the old version (.38) and NONE of them recognize my phone when I plug it in and tell the phone to use HTC Sync. The phone tries to find it running on my PC but can't. Any ideas? I'm running Win7 64.
Hi.
I have setup HTC Sync to sync a folder over to my DHD. However I found syncing files to be a bit quirky.
Docs created on the device are not synced to the PC, only the other way round.
Docs deleted on the device are not deleted on the PC, only the other way round. The doc that remains on the PC needs to be modified in order to sync back to the device - seems there is some sort of cache.
Is the above a bug of HTC Sync and is happening to other persons? Is to possible to get file synching as one would expect it to be, i.e. as I was accustomed through Activesync and Windows Mobile 6.5?
Thanks.
Bump...any feedback?
Is it possible that I am the only one to experience this issue? Any feedback from other users and possibly also help?
I'm beginning to think that I am the only one to use and experience this.
OK, perhaps it's not a high priority but nevertheless quite an annoyance considering the thing worked perfectly for years in Windows Mobile and Activesync.
I'd advise you to try MyPhoneExplorer.

Thanks. I'll check that out. Do you know if MyPhoneExplorer offers two-way sync with the DHD?
Back to my original problem I have since received feedback from HTC Support. They are claiming that HTC Sync offers a choice on the sync direction, either to the PC or to the DHD. I was not offered this choice when I installed HTC Sync on the PC and neither when connecting the DHD to the PC for the first time. To be sure of this I installed HTC Sync on a second PC and connected the DHD to this second PC. Again, no choice was ever offered.
I have written back asking for proof of this sync choice offer and will post back here any feedback received. In any case I have told HTC Support that if indeed HTC Sync only offeres one-way sync then it is indeed only a half-baked solution.

I got the same problem.
Did you ever find a solution besides MyPhoneExplorer?
I'm still corresponding, sort of, with HTC. My support request was routed to HTC Italy who asked me to rewrite the request in Italian. Fortunately that was not a problem for me.
Since then there has been much to-and-fro between me and HTC with them asking me to do things that had nothing whatsoever to do with my problem. As an example they kept asking me questions as to the version of Outlook I have even though I am not syncing any contacts or calendar. They even asked me to if my problem was if I could not install HTC Sync, and another time said that one-way sync is all that HTC Sync was and during installation of the latter on the PC one is asked in which direction should the one-way sync work. All this is quite a load.
In my last communucation a couple of days ago I asked them for a clear explanation and solution, failing which I will escalae the matter through other HTC channels.
EDIT: I have not installed or tried to use MyPhoneExplorer. I expect the matter to be resolved by HTC and MyPhoneExplorer is only a last resort.
Thanks Leon.
It looks like they giving you the run around.
Keep me posted if you come right.
I will let you know if I find a solution.
thanks again

Yes, but then still no reason for HTC to look the other way and hope the problem, or I, disappear.
Ok after running WinMo phones since their inception I have moved to Android
First thing I want to Do with my new S2 is sync with outlook...contacts, notes, tasks etc
What can I use to get all the data accross not just say contacts
Can I use Kies ?
Do a Google for CompanionLink
Thanks but $50 or $130 to sync to outlook seems insane
The latest & greatest and I cant just plug it in & sync
May as well send it back and keep my HD2
Use Samsung Kies. Its free to download from Samsung website.
i came from winmo and found it a real struggle to sync with outlook. you have to get used to everyone ignoring your question and telling you just to sync with google.
try kies - if that doesn't work, look for myphoneexplorer. it's also free, works flawlessly and is the closest thing i can find to activesync ...
I just found this page http://www.syncdroid.net/
Incredible... I have to [email protected]#k around with 40 pieces of software for a solution
The best phone cant even talk to one of the most widely used pieces of software
My very first windows phone at least did contacts flawlessly..I remember purchasing some software to sync notes...BUT that was 8 years ago!!
I've never had any Apple products because I dont like being told which way to do things and now Google seems no better
What a let down
You probably won't like this but there's a solution. For about $10 a month you can use an Exchange hosting service. In addition to all the syncs you're looking for you get true push e-mail and don't have to use any of the Google apps. It's elegant but not free.

Sorry man, thanks to all these corporations wanting to own your sould they do their best to keep you from being able to move cross platform. A real pia and yeah, people here don't seem to get that many organizations do not want any of their stuff going across third party data harvesting outfits (i.e. gmail) and they are not going to change any time soon. IMO you either deal with the crap workarounds or move on because things have been stagnant on this front from the start, there has been little movement up till now, and no sign of any real improvement in sight.
You don't need "crap workarounds" with Samsung Android phones - they Outlook sync either via USB or WiFi using Kies just fine. And this sync completely bypasses Google.
Its not a feature of Android in general, but something Samsung adds to their customized Android builds.

I'm in the same boat...just moved from winmo and thought it would be easy....no it doesn't sync with kies just fine
Try Kies...it's not as intuitive as the almost invisable active sync
I have got my contacts accross although multiple address books look to have not been kept separate
I also havent check that 100% of whats in outlook has come accross as there are multiple fields
Pros coming across from WinMo:
- smooth op system
- havent pulled my battery once yet ..just as well as the cover is made of paper
Negs
- all that battery sucking stuff functions better, is easier to turn on and leave on so the juice dissapears just like before

Install Google calender sync on your PC, that will sync Outlook to your Gmail account.
Then set your phones calender to sync to that same Gmail account and all will be handled automatically for you.
For free, may I add.
"Local" sync with active sync doesnt require any "sharing" with microsoft in the cloud which is why people dont want to share with google in the cloud
why should you have to get a Gmail account just cos you have a Android phone?
