My XDA2 just died!! - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Received an incoming call whilst phone was in the docking cradle, removed to answer call and after 20 secs or so phone just died and won't do a thing!!
Occasionally tries to restart when in the cradle, but won't complete boot up!!
Any ideas??

try doing a softreset
if that dont help i suppose you need to try a hardreset

Won't do a soft reset as it won't turn on on battery power!!
Believe that it has done a hard reset on it's own as occasionally (when in cradle) it gets as far as aligning the screen but then just dies again.

well a hardreset would remove all software and data not located in rom
so maybe it's a hardware issue i would prob try and get it fixed within warrenty

we had a similar problem with a 1.52 version phone.
after upgrading to 1.60 the problem was gone.
we did need to upgrade via sd card, and copying the rom from a working 1.60 phone.
see http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/bl-ii-usage.html for partial instructions on how to do this.
the commands to type to create the sd card are:
Code:
d2s
d2s 60000000 00300000 sd a
d2s 70080000 01000000 sd a
this should create a sd card with the osrom, the radio rom, the extended rom.

SD Card Erasures

Just checking to see which people have had sd card erasures with which ROM.
I have had sd card erasures with 4.00.05.
I have had erasures on the 4.00.05 and 4.00.10 ROMs. So far (knock on wood) I haven't had any problems with the 4.00.16.
That being said, it seems like when it is about to erase your card, everthing gets really slow and it stops responding. I've had that start to happen once or twice under the new rom, but I've popped out the card and done a soft reset. Put the card back in after that and all is well.
I am not sure if it really was getting ready to self destruct, but it was slowing down.
Had no problems under 4.00.05 and 4.00.10 This morning my sd card was erased under 4.00.16 Have just restored my data and locked the damn sd card.
SD Erasure
I have had mine erase under 4.00.5 but so far so good under 4.00.11.
Just idea: Is anybody have "spontaneous SD erasure" problem wit NO SUNDISK SDs ?
I had "spontaneous SD erasure" with Panasonic SD
ROM v. 4.00.05
And since moment upgraded ROM 4.00.16 not yet
SD Erasure
It's gone again for me....under 4.0.11 this time....am going to try swapping from a 256 card to 128 today to see if it makes a difference....Any else had any revelations as to what's causing it?
SD Erasure
Same problem today with Sandisk 128 meg SD Card.
Hmmm..its strange.
I never have a problem with any of the 1.2 4.05 and 4.11 roms.
Being a 32MB unit I have virtually no prog installed in main memory but the kitchen 4.11 is fully packed until 2k remaining.
Could it be one of the programs in your machine?
Try not installing any.
Anyone else with no problem? Please speak up.

FYI, I've been running rom version 4.00.16 (plain vanilla version, no rom kitchen additions), with a minimal number of programs installed for a couple weeks now. No SD losses yet. I am thinking there must still be some software that's not compatible with WM 2003 that's causing the problems for people.
Another problem - can't format any card under WM2003... I thought that it was caused by FlashFormat (I thought it's not compatible with WM2003). But with the new version of FlashFormat for WM2003 the same problem... Has anyone this problem too?
Hmmm can't say that I've actually tried to format a card under 2003. I always use my card reader for that.
Today I have "spontaneous SD erasure" with Panasonic SD 256MB
ROM version. 4.00.16 -Crazy

Who can find this bug???
Are you a hero :?:
Waiting for Developers  or somebody :?:
Thank,
Yesterday again... And today again! That's impossible! But I've found something that may be interresting. So I have a question - do you remember if you have performed a soft reset at the day the card was erasured?
Because - I have... And it looked like the system boot last longer before I found the card is erasured...
What about the others?
QUESTION FOR VAN:
------------------------
Do you have a plain version like GregP74 or you have cooked your own in the kitchen?
from the J. kitchen
10 days no problem
Today try to upgrade clean ROM 4.00.16 but kitchen is not working now :?: :?: :?:
Hm, I want to detect where the problem can be... Can all of us build a list of apps you have included to your ROMs?
Maybe some application is not really fully cpmpatible with WM2003, as someone said...
Thank you
@wuffi
Maybe you are right
I made last soft reset and It seems little bit longer than normal
I had "spontaneous SD erasure" with Toshiba SD
ROM v. 4.00.11 (7-10 days after ROM upgrade).

HELP!!!

I have tried everything under the sun to upgrade my T-Mob PPPC/PE with Yorch's T-Mobile unofficial Upgrade to WM2003. I can't get it to work. Tried: loading ROM to SD card and soft reset, using XDATools OSImagetool, etc... :x
I believe it is tough for any one to advice if you don't state what exactly you did and what error messages you got .....
Are you trying bootloader method. or other method. Please present more detail regarding your problem including current rom/radio etc and things that you have tried already.
Sorry. First, loaded the file, NK.NBF onto my SD card using OSImagetool.exe. Then per instructions that were given to me, did a soft boot on the device. It simply rebooted and after it came up, there was a message on the screen asking my if I wanted to format the SD card for use with the device and telling me that if I hit "yes", the card would be erased and all data lost on the card.
The next thing I tried was to use OSImagetool.exe directly. Source- nk.nbf (on my desktop) and Destination: Device memory (via Programme A). The error I got was "Programme A not found - run with "--register" error opening target device.
I even tried to run OSImagetool.exe from the command prompt using --register as an argument and got the same exact error.
Then, I loaded the NK.NBF file to the SD card then ran OSImagetool with source: SD card, destination: Device memory. Then got the same error: "Programme A not found - run with "--register" error opening target device."
Hope that helps.
i dont know the program OSImagetool
but when i updated my xda to 2003 i used xdatools to transfer the rom to the sdcard and then i DIDENT! softreset but went into the bootloader and it started to update

They are the same program OSImagetool is just the name of the .exe file.
@jhug whats your bootloader version? Sounds like it might be 5.17 or newer!
HTH
When the xda asked you if you wanted to format the sd card you should answer no, it means the rom has in fact been written to the card, you then need to enter bootloader mode, a soft reset is no good, just push the stylus in the reset hole while holding down the power button, it will then ask you to push the action button which is the centre of the 4 way pad, your rom will then be programmed, make sure the battery is charged also. When the process is complete, unscrew your stylus, then insert the top half of the stylus in the hole on the bottom right of your xda, just push once, after one minute push again, this turns the battery off, then on again, you should then have a working system.
my bootloader is 5.22 btw
I wanted to check and see if the ROM was in fact on the SD card, so I did a soft reset and the notification came up and asked me if I wanted to format the SD card. I clicked no and assumed the nk.nbf file was on the card. I then did a soft reset while pressing the power button and went into bootloader mode. It did not ask me to push the action button, so I did anyways and it went into diagnostics mode. Ideas???
I'll try reloading the ROM on the SD card and try it again. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for your help! BTW, bootloader version is 5.15.

Consider yourself luck if you haven't had any problems upgrading
using the SD card boot loader method then!
Also most of the RS upgrade failures that I seen / fixed and tried to fix had boot loader 5.17 or higher, so keep that in mind. Lucky, Lucky you!

Please do!
Also whats the size and make of your SD card?
Well, I tried it again and the same thing happened. It went into bootloader mode and did not ask me if I wanted to install the new OS. I tried pressing the volume button and it said to connect the USB cable. I also pressed the contacts button and it went into Diagnostic mode. Aaaaaarrrrrgh!
BTW, it's a 256MB Sandisk card. (Great for holding about 200 songs! )

Some how I knew you where going to say a "256MB Sandisk"!
For some unknown reason had the same problem using the same card,
if you can try using a 64MB or a 128MB card and see what happens.
HTH
It finally worked! I loaded the ROM to the 256mb Sandisk SD card while in the unit, removed the SD card, inserted the SD card, then did a warm boot while pressing the power button and the ROM image loaded! I did the usual battery cutoff and then rebooted it and it works fine. Thanks everyone who gave me advice with this.
Where there is a well there is a way, great job!
But how in the hell did you figure that one though?
I decided to get creative. Dangerous when you're working in Wallaby, but it worked!

Probs flashing any rom via ntrw with my NEW mdacompact

Hi everyone,
am deperately needing your advice!!!
Just yesterday I rechieved an exchange mdac from tmobile showing serial version v1.02 when put in bootloader mode(previously v1.01).
When trying to flash whatever rom once transferred via ntrw to my sd card, my mdac does simply nothing but stay in bootloader showing serial v1.02. No flashing like in my old one starts.
On removing the sd card it comes out freshly formatted, before it definately was formatted with raw as usual once working with ntrw.
Result : I can not upgrade my system to mksbigstorage or any other rom like i could with my" old one". (same sd card!!!)
Tried downgrading to an older rom version via original upgrade routine and from there flashing via sd card: same problem!, tried other sd card: no solution either!
Any ideas, solutions, people with the same problems?
:?:
Appreciate your help
Thanx
romflashing
Seems to have nothing to do with flashing routine.
Card simply gets formatted once inserted.
Any way to stop this?
Hi! I have had many problems after flashing and re-flashing my rom.
Try boot loader mode and USB then execute (from your PC)MaupgradeUT_noid with a Shipped_rom on XDA ftp. It may work.
Have a look at this link: http://www.mtekk.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?p=32876

Try to write SD card with winhex not ntrw. Simply choose open disc feature and write file directly do SD it works every time for me (with ntrw it was roulette). I have 1.02 bootloader

How to get a Wallaby to read the rom from the SD Card!

problem: radio stack upgrade failed (using the siemens upgrade) and now I get a GSM error and eventually a partial pocket pc desktop with no start menu or access to an explorer window.
OK, I used XDA tools to copy the rom to the SD card (1GB card), inserted in the Wallaby, held the power and soft reset the device, I get the boot loader v5.15 and then a GSM Error. From there, nothing. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? Does the SD card need additional files or should it be formatted a certain way? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
No additonal files are required. Thr progress you describe is the normal....
Are you using an internal SD-Card Writer? They make often problems.
YOu can try dumping your old ROM to SD and check if it will work with this backup. If this is the case the problem is your Card writer.....
Instructions to do this could be found here:

Fixing GSM error could be found here:

Siemens SX56 Upgrade Issue GSM Error - Upgrade failed

!!!please help!!!- upgrade with broken SD card slot.

Hi everyone,
I have a very strange problem with my MDA1 Wallaby phone.
I had 4.01.12 version of the ROM. I tried to upgrade WM2003SE (with exe file), but something bad happen, when it was 99%. Now I have only bootloader working (5.15) and GSM OK.
I tried to upgrade via SD card, but everytime I get "CHECKSUM IS NOT CORRECT" after the upgrade. I cannot update WM any more. (I tried 4 different SD cards, so I think the problem is somewhere else). When I test the SD card in bootloader by selecting SD card test it says TEST error with every SD. Is it OK?
What should I do?? Is there other way, how to upgrade my precious MDA (not Active Sync and not SD) ?
Please help me! I am desperate and do not know what to do.....
HELP appreciated...
"CHECKSUM IS NOT CORRECT" message after the upgrade from SD card is no problem. Try a soft reset after this message.

can't boot to windows - hang whole day with a white screen. Maybe SD card slot is bad...
And I am very very very very stupid - I forgot to make a Hard reset before upgrading and didn't make a backup of last ROM.
