iMate SMARTPHONE 2 - ROM upgrade Issues - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

G'day All,
I'm guessing that this might be a little off-topic, but we've got two iMate SmartPhone 2's here that upon trying to reflash the ROMs, had an issue. Upon trying to reconnect, they now go into the Bootload (1.04) and when we run the reflash utility, the screen on the phones go white.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how to recover this situation?
Anyone know how to use the ROM nbf file via an SD card to reload from the Bootloader?
Any help - Very much appreciated!
Cheers
Andy

XDAIIi New ROM from O2 and xdaforum, both fail with ERROR114

Hello Guys,
Disaster. I tried updating to the new ROM from the O2 website and it fails with : "ERROR114....
Tried the version from this great forum and guess what? same error.....
HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My XDAIIi was brill. Now its dead...
Try putting the 2i into bootloader mode by pressing the power button, action pad down and the reset button at the same time. The screen will say serial with a version number at the bottom. When you connect it to your computer this should change to USB. Then try running the update again.
If you are using the modified version I posted on this site then the install will fail. Just run the program MAUpgradeUT_noid.exe a second time without touching the 2i at all.
Hope all goes well.
Hi Pug,
Unfortunaely that has not work. see screen shots attached.
can anyone tell me what this damn error is pls...............
oh by the way the iMate PDA2 rom fails as well with the same error. !!
If both your devices are failing to upgrade the problem must lie with your computer somewhere.
Are you using firewalls like zonealarm which may be interfering with the update process. If so try disabling them.
I assume you are connecting using USB and not serial. Do so if for no other reason than it's faster.
Are you using Activesync 4? More stable for upgrading than 3.8 but lacks sync over LAN feature - not a great deal if you've never used it. You can find this on the wiki link top left of this page.
Try downloading the packages again. I've posted the radio rom here as thats the one you seem to be having immediate problems with. Download it and overwrite the one on my modified rom.
I'll post more if I think of anything as I'm suffering a hangover right now and can't think too much cos it hurts. :?
thnx pug,
really appreciate your help. yes iam running firewall (norton). I will try your modified radio and advise. fingers crossed. and thnx once again.
using activesynch 4 as well from this forum
Hi pug,
Sorry the radio did not work. renamed the radio and ran update and the update works for nk.nbf and ms.nbf files. without radio the phone does not work but proved that there is no problem with my pc or usb cradle etc. the problem is the radio.
my IMEI is 354962000270150.
the radio file from the Launch rom from O2 does not work, so either my IIi has a damaged component or something else that I am not aware of.
copied your radio file to the other iMate upgrade and it still fails with the same error 114 !!
Any other ideas or suggestions pls, its really depressing to loose the XDAIIi permanently.
Oh I forgot to mention that the IIi is also unlocked and the ExtROm is unlocked as well. Will this make a diffeence?
The fact that the 2i is unlocked won't make any difference. The EXTRom on the 2i can't be unlocked and always results in the storage being locked which will stop the phone being updated. Maybe not at the actual update stage but certainly further down the line after the hard reset.
Ok now I have have tried various things as posted in this forum in various sections. Still get the same error.
Originally about 3 months ago, I had to hard reset, then I used the Launch ROM from the O2 website. I still have that original exe but that also NOW fails. I am now running out of options.
Any other ideas?
It might be that because you have unlocked the Extended ROM that it causes this fault, either that or you device has an internal problem which you cannot fix.
Take it back to the shop they will replace it.
114 error
I got my XDA2i back from O2 after a warranty mainboard replacement and decided to upgrade with the new O2 rom..horrors.. I got the 114 error and repeated efforts failed to cure it. I then inatalled a/sync on another PC and ran the upgrade from there...
Bingo! it worked..always worth a try if things defy logic.
Probably an old firewall that didn't uninstall properly.
One thing though, does anybody know when my backup battery will kick in and charge.
It arrived back from O2 completely dead but even with the main battery full it doesn't want to take a charge yet??
Hitla
Just humour me and try the radio upgrade on another PC... That's how i got round my 114 error
To all the people who have advised me... thank you.
I have tried the upgrade on 2 other laptops I have, one with Activesync 4 and one with Activesync 3.8.
AND..... the same failure error.
I have now taken it back to O2 and they have taken it in for repair !!
Should rcv it back next week hopefully repaired or replaced !!
Will keep you guys posted.
Once again great forum and great posters with serious technical advice.
Well done keep it up.
Soory guys,
Have been away for the last few weeks, so unable to update you all.
Well O2 replaced my device. It has the new ROM but the old radio !!
I would like to thank all of you advised me.
Hi,
I just downloaded the O2 Rom-Upgrade.
To keep my 2020i in German I only did a Radio-Update from 1.02 (ran the installer and copied the files to a different directory together with the AllUgrade kindasomething.....)
The update worked, it always worked this way, but after the update the Radio showed up as 1.00.00 (MUST be 1.03, at least that is what o2 says....)
Any idea?
Thanks, Günter
P.S.: I should add that the phone works..

Freezing on start-up (Dopod 838Pro)

Hi all,
Hoping someone could help me. My Dopod has been freezing on start-up and after doing countless hard resets i am stuck at the Windows Mobile splash screen!
I have connected it to my PC, but as Windows Mobile hasn't loaded, ActiveSync can't pick-up my Dopod. This means i cannot update or completely re-flash. Is there a way to do this without ActiveSync?
I am now stuck with a Dopod i cannot use. I have no idea what to do.
can you flash using SD card? have a search, im pretty sure that will work.
Or go through the Bricked thread
Are you sure you're doing hard resets and not soft resets? Generally when a freeze occurs, you would soft-reset.
If you have indeed been doing hard-resets, then you most likely have a hardware issue and there's not much anyone here can do to help that.
Have you updated your ROM in the past? If these freezes started after an update, then it may be a bad update, so you could either try flashing from microSD as suggested above, or boot into the bootloader as per instructions in the wiki and flash from there.
Thanks for your replies guys!
I have tried all that. My son knocked my usb cable from my Dopod whilst it was updating my ROM ... that was the cause of my Dopod current 'brick' state!
My bootloader is SPL-1.09, but i have noticed from here that the Dopod ROM that i require (for Hutchinson '3' - Australia) uses bootloader SPL-1.06. Is it true that i cannot down-grade from 1.09 to 1.06?
I ask this question as i get "Invalid Vendor ID" attempting to flash my Dopod with that ROM. When i don't get that, i get communication errors (Update Error) when attempting to run Hard-SPL-V7.
What could i be doing wrong?
Hey guys,
Think i have worked out that my CID is corrupt, therefore i can't flash any ROM even if i wanted to. I used mtty and after a bit of searching in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-291336.html) i found that the 'info 2' result i got (HTCSF kEØ(HTCE) meant my CID was corrupt.
Hopefully i haven't voided my warranty as i haven't attempted to flash any 3rd party ROMS, only the one on the Dopod website that was accidently stopped when my son tripped over the usb cable.
We shall soon find out!

Upgraded SX66 To WM6 (Helmi): Device Passcode No Longer Works

I'm hoping somebody here can help, because I'd hate to have to get rid of a device that I really love...
Used Helmi's WM6 (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...angel_WM6_Home) to upgrade from WM2003SE and everything was working beautifully!
I was absolutely LOVING the new software until my device just stopped accepting the passcode that I had been using for 2 years. What I don't understand is I had to use the passcode a few times after the upgrade and all was fine. What could have happened for it to suddenly change by itself (because I know it wasn't me)?
Someone at the PocketPCAddicts forum suggested that I locate an original factory ROM to wipe out everything on the device and try again from scratch. I've searched the web looking for such a beast and can't find one (since the manufacturer/carrier no longer support it).
Can someone here help?
Debbie
Had the same problem...
Hi Debbie,
Same thing happened when I upgraded from WM2003 to the WM6 ROM. Unfortunately there was no solution and I just ended up disabling the password to ensure I never got stuck.
If you ever stumble upon a solution that works for you, I'd be happy to hear about it!
I'm about to try out the latest WM6.11 and hope it will have that particular issue solved - I'll let you know.
Ken
if you press and hold power+record+camera the same time and then reset you get to the boot loader.
you will see the 3 options, which i have fogotten, but if you put in the same options as instructions tell you after flashing a new rom, then push the mail button i believe, it will format you memory and you will be able to get back in again.
i had the same problem where i was locked out and i did that and just sync'd again to get back to my positon prior getting locked out.
hope that helps
Thanks, I will try it again.
Should I be able to simply repeat those steps, or should I start from the beginning? I don't have the device with me right now.
Thanks again,
Debbie
follow the instructions after the flashing the rom stage all the way to the end.
you choose to format memory on the gray screen with 3 options.
i flashed the wm6.1(5.2.19716) several days ago, and tested in several situations, my BA can remember the pw now, thanks for the hardwork of rom maker.
Thanks! (Now Internet Problem)
I got it to finally work, after getting a 3rd hand to help in the key combination/timing.
Only problem now is that my SX66 no longer connects to the Internet. Tried every setting/CAB I could find and no dice. AT&T tech and advanced tech support didn't help and I was told that the OS may have corrupted the connectivity.
Should I try loading another WM6 version?
Thanks again,
Debbie

Possible Brick (8125) G4 - At Bootloader Screen

Resolved. Topic Can be Closed / Deleted.
Hello, I am new to the forums and new to reloading phones but fairly tech savvy otherwise.
I have a Cingular 8125 G4 Phone.
Current IPL/SPL
IPL 2.21.0001
SPL 2.21.0lip
-Can Access Bootloader Screen
-I successfully Unlocked it
-Updated the ROM to WM6
-Come to find it operated much slower then my WM5
-Tried a Different ROM
-Left the Room while it was uploading
-Cat attacked the cord or the phone
-Was Detached during the update process
-Rebooted Phone, stuck at the Basic Splash Screen
-Attempted to do a hard reset. Was able to access this screen, format, but would return back to flash screen and just sit there.
I have spent a couple hours going through the information on the forums but to no avail. I fear I have got a paper weight but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
Normally I would keep searching however this may prove to be time sensitive and need all the help
Thank you in Advance
Yours Truely

As Murphy's Law would have it, soons as I post this I come across another post that told me to re-flash and for some reason after attempting to reflash 3-4 times, this time it appears to be taking it. I will keep you folks posted
However The link is broken for the official Cingular 8125 WM5 (What was shipped with the phone). If anyone has a link I would appreciate it if someone could send it to me. I will post once I have received.
Thank you very much.
Phone has recovered. However I would like to restore it back to Factory Defaults for reasons that are my own. I feel I can do it but do not have the Factory Image link.
The Following Link appears to be broken:

This Topic Can now be closed I found the original Rom at
http://rapidshare.com/files/188635235/RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship_cingular.rar
Found it after searching on the board for a while.
Adding Keywords for Search Engine to Pick up on so people having similar issues won't have to look as long as I did
AT&T 8125 G4 IPL&SPL
Version 2.25
Original ROM
it's hard to say what rom it had since i got it with wm6.5.
i found a link on this forum to a file called RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship_cingular.rar
it seems to be one of the many originals, so i'll try to flash this one as soon as i can figure out the connection issue with ActiveSync. I tried both 4.0 and 4.5 but they both fail to connect i need to fix the pda's display (or wait until it solves itself, like the previous time) in order to troubleshoot the connection error
hi. I hapened for similar trance.
First download RUU_Wizard_Cingular_8125_WIZCNG01_G3_G4_2006_11_May_225_225_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship2
(seek in google)
Second quit the battery (100% charged) and put again. Power the 8125.
Third reset your PC wihout the 8125 connected.
Fourth connect the 8125 and execute the file donwloaded.
I hpe to help.
(sorry my ugly english, I spoke español)

[Q] HP 614c Owner needs help

Helo all - I could really use a hand here. This is the second time I have faced this issue.
When trying to make a call on my 614c when the battery is low, it crashes. Upon reboot, the radio no longer works and I cannot make any calls. It just goes into a permanent "Seaching" mode.
What I've tried:
Reboots - warm and cold
Removing the battery for 30 mins
Reset to defaults
Multiple different ROMs including upgrading and downgrading the Radio
No luck.
Last time (3 months ago) I ended up sending it to ipaqrepair to be fixed.
They said:
"the un-official hacked ROM installed in combination with a corrupt / mismatched GSM Radio ROM, these are the root cause of the issues"
I had actually NOT installed a non-official ROM until after it stopped working in a desperate attempt to fix it. But when they got it, it was a 6.5 ROM.
This time, I had upgraded it to 6.5....but I have since downgraded to the official ROM an installed the. .89 Radio update.
It wont work at all and I can't justify mailing it away for another expensive repair.
Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....
Any ideas? How can I effectively "blow away" all the software/drivers and set the device up as new? IpaqRepair said it was corrupt software last time....
I've installed different ROMs via flash.dio and I tried the HP radio upgrade RUU_1.8.0_081208_MP_M089_WWE. Are their files or settings that the installs I am doing do not affect - and if so, how do I repair/replace them?
Using Sim Manager, it says the phone is not ready. It's just like the phone radio won't initialize...
This phone originated overseas (Europe) - could that be somehow causing this issue since I'm using it in the USA? Something locking or changing and no longer compatible?
Not sure what else I can do and am missing my phone. Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Still fighting with this....maybe onto something now?
When I get the asset viewer information for the phone it shows the radio is present and the firmware number.
the Stack Version, Bootloader Version, Filesystem Verions and Radio GDFS versions are blank.
It does show the IMEI.
I'm guessing I'm missing file/data for the radio....but reinstalling the Radio ROM HP offers has not helped (maybe not complete - just an upgrade?)
Thoughts?
Anyone have a copy of the original ROM and .81 Radio ROM?
Maybe rolling it all the way back might get it operational again....
Official Drivers/Rom/Radio for 614c
Hi,
You can download official drivers from HP website. The forum does not allow me to post the link. Just search for "official 614c drivers" in google and you wil get the link.
Also note, please install using WINDOWS XP os as installing this using other os such windows 7, windows vista etc is not possible.
Okay - I tried installing the software from the HP Website using XP - but it still isn't working. It's just like the software for the radio is corrupted and it won't replace it (does not list the versions like it should when you look at the software inventory).
Is there any way to manually do this? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone can help me get this resolved, I'm definitely buying them a beer.
Basically the GSM just seems to be bricked. Last time a software fix resolved it, but I'm not sure what software needs to be installed to get the radio working again.
What is the best way to blow it all away and start over? Is there a way to manually delete the radio files - or to look at them for versions/dates to see what is corrupt or mismatched.

I guess, you will get enlightenment for the problem on your device at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455840
Bump.....
Still hoping for a solution. I have gone to a Glisten now, but do not like it as much as the 614c.
I'm open to any suggestions.
