Dummy's guide to upgrade pls. - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I currently have a 64Mb O2 XDA running what I think is PPC2002. I want to install PPC2003 to enable me to run more software. I have read alot of various posts about it and am left just confused. Can anyone provide me with a step by step guide to upgrade? I have a 128Mb SD card with about 96Mb occupied (Tomtom Navigator UK maps), but no card read/writer (if absolutely necessary, I will get one). Your help is appreciated.

Is 32 mb sd card sufficient for rom backup before upgrade?

I am terribly excited about the SE rom ver1.2 and desperately wants to run the exe file from Jeff. However, it seem advisable to back up my present O2 rom (ver 3.16.32 Eng) before doing so.
I do not have any sd card and thot of buying one to do this backup. Is a 32 mb card sufficient to back up the rom first before running Jeff's exe?
Can I just run Jeff's exe to upgrade my rom which is not the 3.17 version? I have read before someone's postings about how to back up the rom on the sd card but couldn't find it again. Can someone tell me how to do the rom back up to sd card or the relevant posting to help me?
Hope some kind soul could help me answer these questions. Thanks very much.

A.1. Nope 32MB is not enough you need at least a 64MB card.
A.2. Yes!
A. 3. [Optional] Backup old ROM & bootloader to an SD card . Do this by soft-resetting the PPCPE with the power button pressed to enter bootloader mode, then press the contacts button, select CE+BOOT TO SD using the pad + action button. Soft reset the device afterward. (Note: you may use XDArit http://www.xda-developers.com/XDArit/ to backup the ROM from the SD card to your PC
Answer much appreciated
Thanks Qman; you are very kind.
Will do as instructed.

(HELP) Tried to upgrade to WM2003

I downloaded the upgrade from Siemens web site and ran the program.
my phone is now stuck in the upgrade window and will not reboot.
Any Sugestions?
RE:
Phone will not reconect to activesync either.
RE:
Tried a hard reset and soft reset no results.
I think I'm Screwd
You need to get an sd memory card and card reader/writer, using the tools available here on the site you will need to write a rom to the sd card through sd card reader on your pc, then you go to bootloader mode and the sd card will burn the rom to your xda.
Thanks for the advise. I have a 1Gb sd card so I will get a reader.
I'm kind curious about Bootloader? Can Anyone enlighten me or point me to posts that have the info I'll need.
My computer is running windows is this ok?
All advise is much appreciated
Thanks For all the help. I fixed the Problem with the Bootloader. Finished the upgrade to A.30.09.
I just wanted to say that it is AWESOME to have a sight like this when the manufacturer doesn't have a clue how to answer many of these Q's.
THANK YOU QMAN (i got the info off one of your posts) AND ALL WHO PASS ON KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!1

Newbie need advise on upgrading.

Hi, i am new in the upgrading of ROM and OS realm. Need some advise from you seniors here.
1.Is it possible to upgrade my XDA1 from WM2002 to WM2003?
2.Is there any free upgrading site for this WM2003?
3.What is the proper procedure to do it? (i m worry that i may set my
XDA1 on 'fire' and fried.)
4.How can we actually recover the set if it went bonking during the
upgrading?
5.What are the pros and cons if to upgrade it to WM2003?
I know some of the questions are abit dumb. But they are some that keep bothering me. As i do not want to damage my old but liable XDA1 n of cos if everything proofed to be worth to get a proper WM 2003 CD rom i wouldn't mind.
Thanks and regards.
1. Yes
2. http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
3. use the SD card flashing method
4. use the boot loader menu to take a backup of your current ROM on the SD card before flashing .. in this case you will need 2 SD cards ... both of them should be 64 MB or higher
5. no real cons for WM2003 except some rare issues of SD card erasur
as long as you play only with the ROM and not touching the RSU (the phone part) mostly nothing can go wrong ... good luck!
5. I see only one con: the WM2003 takes more space in both RAM and ROM. In my case the difference was about 3MB both (XDA-developers SER -> 4.00.11)...
Thanks alot pals. With your replies, your dun make me feels like an alien here. Thanks once more.

you may check steps 1-6 to see how to get a ROM dump on a SD card.
if you have a SD card with the ROM dump just use step 7 to upload from SD into ROM.
did it only with a dump from my own Wizard and back into it but not with a dump from another Wizard so better read through the thread yourself carefully first.

ROM to RAM transfer

Hello,
I have Qtek S200, I have 64 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM and 2 GB storage card.
It gives me 20MB free RAM. I want to know how can I transfer some MB's from my ROM size to RAM memory or use some space from my memory card to put in RAM place.
I know it was possible in Windows Mobile 2003 SE but I am on Windows Mobile 6.0
Please help me, or just tell me if there is a way I can use ROM or Storage card as RAM? it will help me a lot in running some really good applications.
Thanks a lot, badly waiting for answer!
Thanks,
FAISAL!
i have browsed into Prophet Forums as much as i can but i havent stumbled upon a certain topic concerning your proposal. what i would suggest is that there are some good programs out there that you can install in your device that can help you manage your RAM efficiently.
Since prophet isnt GIFTED with such huge RAM memory space i would recommend you the following programs to install in your device ( some of them might already be incorporated in your ROM if your using the ROMS provided by experts here in this Forum)
1. Hibernate (www.oxios.com)
2. ClearTemp by Vicott Wong
3. CleanRAM by HTCAddicts
i will attach number 2 and 3 files as CAB and its up to you how will you set it up on your device. maybe a regular schedule for these apps to run on your device..
good luck and hope this programs help since Prophet Devices arent gifted with so much RAMS like other HTC devices do..
Cheers,
