Dial In via Laptop and Radio Modem - Networking

After upgrading to the latest available ROM Upgrade (T-Mobile) it looks like that it is not longer necessary to launch the radio modem when connection to the Internet?
Is that the correct behavior of the MDA II

GPRS Problems with american t-mobile Phone Edition

Hi
I bought an american 900/1900 Phone Edition Pocket PC and I would like to use it in Switzerland. With Version 3.14.40 and Radio Stack 6.18 it wont connect to GPRS (even the GPRS "G"-Sign wont appear). I was connected once, but after the next reset it is not working anymore. With older version of this Phone (3.08.10/6.02) it's working perfectly! Does somebody knows this problem? Or should I downgrade to the working version 3.08.10? :?
thanks

UAE: Best Radio version?

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who posts to this forum - I've been reading it for a month or so now and am constantly impressed with the quality of the knowledge here, especially the developers...
I have a QTEK 1010 bought here in Dubai, UAE, with the following device info:
ROM version: 4.00.01 ENG
ROM date: 05/16/03
Radio version: 3.23.01
Protocol version: 32S54
I have found that browsing using IE feels slower, and have the feeling that this version of the ROM does not work well with the radio version. Does anyone reading this forum live in the UAE? I'd like to upgrade the Radio, but need to know which version works best with Etisalat (our Telco).
Any comments much appreciated!
Thanks, Doms...
P.S. I'm going to upgrade the ROM to 4.00.05 when I get the opportunity
hi, i am from dubai and i am using 4.00.1 from t-mobile and 4.21 from o2, so far everything fine just when i reset the t-mobile logo appears.
do you have bluetooth option in that version and your version was already installed or you upgraded yourself?
Use the o2 Radio Version 4.21 it will work fine...
Thanks for the responses guys. Does this new radio version provide any benefits over the one I have?

1) The QTEK does not support Bluetooth, and there is no way to make it work on a QTEK either.
2) There is no Bluetooth option in any of my menus or settings (I would expect this as my device does not support Bluetooth). Windows PPC2003 is supposed to be able to support Bluetooth, however: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/pocketpc/about/2003/bluetooth.mspx
3) I upgraded to the 4.00.05 version of Windows PPC2003 myself using Jeff's ROM Kitchen (thanks Jeff!) http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/ROMkitchen/
Hi, Once i had 4.00.01 and in connection setting i had Bluetooth option but ofcourse it was not working, the other thing is do you know any camera work with SD port of Qtek? i mean something availble in the market.
4.21 is more stable i think.
cheers,
I had some problems when making calls on my QTEK yesterday. While in a voice conversation audible clicking noises can be heard and after about 1 minute of conversation the quality of the call deteriorates until the other party cannot hear me. I'll try upgrading the radio...
I don't know about the camera support using the SD slot in the QTEK. My first instinct would be to say no, it's not possible, but I can't confirm that...
I bought a Qtek 1010 in Dubai Duty Free the other week. I've since upgraded the ROM using ROMkitchen and am delighted with it. One thing I did notice though is that the speakerphone functionality (claimed in the Qtek handbook) doesn't seem to work. I didn't try it before I upgraded so can someone tell me if it works with the native UAE ROM code, and if so does anyone have any idea how I could get it working again?
David
I own a QTEK in the UAE and here is my share to those asking about OS and Radio updates here:
I upgraded from
ROM version: SER 1.2
Radio version: 3.23.01
To
ROM version: 4.00.10 ENG (T.Mobile Test)
Radio version: 4.21.00 (O2 UK)
Everyting seems to work fine apart from 2 minor issues so far:
Make sure you set your band to 900Europe as the default is 1900North America in phone/tools/options
The signal fades out sometimes but doznt affect the reception
No G signal but GPRS is OK.
GPRS stays connected; have to turn phone off and on to disconnect.
Advice:
Read a lot before you upgrade. This forum has a wealth of information.
Cheers

The never-ending question

This seems to be the most commonly asked question on this forum "Why can't I use my XDA with PPC 2003 as a modem". Now I have read a lot of posts talking about it and I realize it can be done with PPC 2002 and not 2003. Why? Is it something that microsoft blocked? Has no one written the software or has it just not been included in people's roms? I was wondering if someone can explain to me the logistics why you can't use XDA as a modem or unlock it in PPC 2003. Also if anyone knows of a software I can purchase to use my XDA as a modem I am all ears. Thanks again.

Problem
First the instructions on setting up the modem were great, but where do I get the two files I need. Second the "upgrade" is acctually a drastic downgrade. Your link told me I should upgrade to
ROM version: 3.20.06 ENG
ROM date: 07/30/03
Radio: 4.21
Protocol: 32S54
This is very outdated. I am currently running
Rom version: 4.01.00
ROM date: 10/27/03
Radio Version: 6.25.02
Protocol version: 324e4
I don't mean to be condescending, but is the version you are talking about PPC 2002 or 2003? Also Do you know the difference bettween the two rom versions I just listed. Thanks.
I don't know how to set the wireless modem, but I know that 3.xx.xx are 2002 versions and 4.xx.xx, R.xx.xx and A.xx.xx are WM2003 ones! 8)
Windows Modem Drive
In first place the ROM 4.01.00 have in the folder program the Wireless Modem?
If they Modem it is there you does not need to do upgrade. You OK
The Upgrade that I'm suggested is the original end last Rom from Asia XDA.
The rom 4.01.00 is the T Mobile vession.
The software you need is in this line [drive]

I'm sorry I can't click on the link for the download. Also isn't the link to a PocketPC 2002 version?
This is the drive that you needs for the USB XDA wireless modem.
josedias (or anyone that can do so),
Can you post the wmodem.exe application from the XDAII, and possibly a registry snapshot (http://www.geocities.com/s_k_s_k_s_kru/util.html#ss)?
Thanks!

Does the WirelessModem_USB_files.zip works on XDA I and PocketPC2003? I'm currently using the wireless modem from the Special Edition 1.2, but intend to upgrade to the T-Mobile 2003 version, just need to ensure I can still have modem capability. Please advise. Thanks.
That was the original question I asked when I started this thread and I really don't think it's possible. There is no app built into 2003 for a modem.
josedias,
I've already read those instructions. They are all for the XDA II, and they refer to a version of WMODEM.EXE that is not in any of the XDA I ROMS. This version of WMODEM.EXE has the option for USB connection, while the XDA I versions do not. That's why I would like for someone to post a copy of the actual file "WMODEM.EXE" from their XDA II, along with a snapshot of the registry so we can analyze the differences. Then we can use the USB Dialer that you posted. Can you copy this file from your XDA II? It should be in \Windows\wmodem.exe.
Thanks!
Shawn

Enclose the Drive from my XDA II \Windods\wmodem.exe
I did not find the wmodem.exe of the XDA I

wmodem on my xda I didnt WORK !!!
When i run irda or usb modem, my pc didnt react. according the instructions when you start usb modem pc must recognized it, but my pc didn't do anything.
i have wm 2003, (win xp on desctop), with no wmodem func, i download it from here. the question is: how make xdaI recognisible as a modem for pc. may be it needs some reg tweaks???
The file you downloaded was for xdaII.
There is no software for XDA PPC 2003 only PPC 2002
gunsandroses,
The German WM2003 ROMs have WMODEM that (I believe) works with the English versions. However, this version of WMODEM only supports serial and IrDA, just like the English version of the PPC2002 ROMs. I have neither a serial port or IrDA on my laptop, though, so I can't tell you if it actually works with the PC. You can find this German version of WMODEM on this forum.
Shawn
i have german wmodem programm, but it didnt work. when i started wmodem irda my ir port on pc shows that connection is established, but when i tried to dial the number, according the instruction, my pc says - there is no modem, or it not instaled. so it seems to be that xda didnt recognized as a modem. but when i stoped wmodem the connection between xda and pc stoped too. i dodnt understand why my pc could not use the modem of xda????? my be, when i tune and tweek my xp i turn off some services, that need to be run for that? but my sonyerricson t610 worked great!

auburnham,
Why can it only support IRDA or serial connetions? The software gives you the option to connect USB and Bluetooth. Also the instructions listed with the dowload explain how to connect through USB. Have you ever successfully made this connection with a desktop and Serial port? Where did you buy a serial wire? Thanks again.

BlackBerry - which firmware is capable

Hello,
I wonder if I can install the latest firmware from HTC WWE and my Tytn will still be BB capable?
Hi,
if you have your local op. provided OS than I advise you not to change....
Br,
Tg
I have installed the latest HTC ROM for my TyTn and m,y coroporate BES account still works fine on my Vodafone Germany contract. In fact, I have installed 3 or 4 Roms on my TyTn and BB works fine every time.
I have tried with original HTC WWE 1.18.416.1 and BlackBerry connect 2.1.2.16 but didn't work.
Now I have Cingular 1.34.502.1 installed, and BlackBerry 2.1.2.34, but it still says: IMEI: Radio is Off. No connection.
Please submit information
I have tried also with Dopod flash, situation the same:
Under identity tag:
PIN: Pending
IMEI: Radio not connected
IP Address: No connection
It's the same as I run it without inserting SIM.
All other functions and GPRS connection work fine.
Please provide me your firmware and radio information if you have Blackberry working.
PS: BB works fine on my old wizard and Nokia E50.
Now I have install the newest HTC update with bootloader 1.09, hoping it will solve the problem, but it insist.
Please, help.
Which BB connect do you use? I have 2.1.2.31 installed.
I don't understand why it says Radio Off.
I have the latest HTC firmware installed on my VF V1605, works a lot better than the VF version did. BB Connect is 2.1.2.16

MDA-Vario connecting to the Internet via ActiveSync

I upgraded my G3 T-Mobile MDA-Vario with Dr Puttingham's as strong working recommended T-Mobile ROM 2.26 (downgraded first with CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe and then upgraded with ruu_prodigy_226102_22610105_022511_tmous_wwe_ship. exe). The datas after the upgrading are as followes (old datas before are in brackets):
-MDA Vario lokiwiz unlocked
-IPL 2.26 (1.06)
-SPL 2.26 (1.06)
-GSM 02.25.11 (01.12.10)
-OS 2.26.10.2 (1.6.2.1)
-CPU TI-OMAP850 195 MHz (overclocked to 240 MHz)
-OS Windows Mobile 5.1.195 build 14955.2.3.0 (v.5.1.70.3 Build 14409.1.1.2)
-ROM 2.26,10.2 WWE Engl. 06/07/2006 (1.6.2.1 GER from 11/14/05)
-ExtROM 2.26.10.105 (1.6.2.107)
-Radio 02.25.11 (01.12.10)
1. Everything works o.k. except the Vario talks to me now in English. Is there any strong working 2.xxx ROM in German around ? Is it possible to upgrade the VARIO-I to Win-Mobile-6 German and does it make sense to do so? If yes, then my Vario would become a G4 instead - if I understood the threads correctly?
2. Before the upgrade I was able to connect to my PC via ActiveSync 4.5 and my Vario automatically connected to the internet via the USB-AS-cable using the established connection on my desktop PC, which is setup to pick up the IP-Adress from my provider automatically.
3. After the Upgrading to 2.26 ROM I am not able anymore to accomplish an Internet-connection on my Vario at all. Is there somebody who experienced the same behaviour with this 2.26 T-Mobile US-ROM and what is to do (step by step) ? Perhaps Dr Puttingham or somebody of you "MDA-Vario users" has a solution for this malfunction. Every contribution in getting the most stable ROM and OS (either best in German or second best in English) will be welcome. Thank you all for your help, with regards, astorgus
