o2 mini XDA S Keyboard layout wrong after I-mate ROM update

So i bought myself an o2 mini xda s - Wow it ran like a dog when i first got it. So i updated the rom with the latest imate ROM, after first unlocking the device. Works great, superrr fast!
However now my keyboard is mapped wrong. Physically on my "A" key i have also the "!" on "S" i have the "@". Now, after ROM update, pressing "!" will give me "~" pressing "@" gives me "!" - everything is shifted right one.
I was pointed at the shareware app AEKmapp, but its another app that has to load, and i dont like that. Its also not free, is there another solution to restore my keyboard?
i had this problem as well. The O2 mini S is a ENGLISH (UK) qwerty keyboard which is actually physically different from the K-Jam and 9100 keyboard. I have been using the registries tweak program in this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725 which allows you to choose a UK or US keyboard layout. I assume there is a registry edit for it somewhere as well. but this is a good way to solve it as well.
Thanks for the thought of why the keyboard 'dot' characters are messed up. Here are the registry changes ....
16. Keyboard language
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
Key: Locale (string)
Value: 0809 English UK
0409 English US
0407 German
0419 Russian
040C French
0410 Italian
040A Spanish
Thanks to "nicodekker" for publishing the list of hacks in the link above.
i had the exactly the same problem as ferrerpheonix. now everything is ok. thank you very much guys.

How to change a keyboard layout?

I bought an almost new O2 XDA mini S with iMate software (why is iMate's SW so popular?) and as its keyboard is mapped as a German one it was all fine until I haven't reinstalled the system yesterday. While getting to know the device better I even came across an option to change keyb's layout (then I saw that the signs on the buttons don't correspont to what I type, so I left it set to German).
As I said, after the format English became the default layout and it's very hard to type now.
Where/how can I set it to German layout. I'm not sure if I had installed something that allowed me to do that prior to reinstallation.
Thanks in advance
u will have to do a small registry tweak as follows :
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
Key: Locale (string)
Value: 0407 German
u will need a software to access the registry like resco explorer or total commander
or u can read this :

Thanks tunx. I think that was what I did when changed to English for the first time
Hi, I have the german keyboard too and I was wondering if would it be possible to switch the z and w keys like on an english keyboard?
read the above link
or do this yourself :
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
Key: Locale (string)
Value: 0809 English UK
0409 English US
0407 German

My Keyboard's language has changed?

I can't think when this started, so I don't know what software caused it, but the symbols on my keyboard no longer correspond with the keys I press.
Some are completely different, and some seem to have shifted to other keys.
Is there a way to change the keyboard language?
Have you upgraded your ROM? That was when mine changed, here is the reg hack to put it right.....
Keyboard language to UK
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
Key: Locale (string)
Value: 0809
Other values for different languages:
0809 English UK
0409 English US
0407 German
0419 Russian
040C French
0410 Italian
040A Spanish
Nope, did not change the ROM, am still on the AKU2 from T-Mobile. Was waiting for 3 before I upgraded as this works fine for me.
Just checked the reg, and it is already 0809, so I am guessing something I have installed has done this.
It's very weird. I am sure my on screen keyboard is different also as I have an accents button which I am sure was a caps button before.
try THIS!!!
sir,if your rom is o2,try change the 0809 tp 0409.have the same problem when i change my ROM t-mobile to o2 xda mini s
It's a t-mobile vario branded device with the t-mobile aku 2 rom.
Tried 0409 and 0809 and no difference
It's obviously caused by something I have installed
Same Here...
... I get funky stuff when I use my "dot" key, so I can't type "?" or "/", etc. PITA! I tried the registry hack to no avail. Wish someone, anyone knew what was causing this.
Am running TNT.1921 series, Professional Edition + HTC Home
I/Spl = 3.08 with UK 2.19.11 Radio
Keyboard is set to US English, 0409 in all settings. Also created "Locale" key as suggested in another thread, with "0409" value.
Help?

View russian text?!

Is there a language pack or something that allows you to view russian text? for wm5? The device is a Cingular 8525 if it matters.
Thanks in advance

English language on spanish magic??

Anyone know if english language exist and can be choosen on the spanish magic?? Mailed Htc about buying the phone in spain and they said that only spanish language is on the phone
yes, you can change language on spainsh magic
Depending on SW customisation, if you switch to English, you actually change your local Settings too. Having Keyboard layout changed, UK comments on Android Market, etc.
Sadly we cannot pick, for example, English for UI and different localization Settings.
At least, this is the limitation I have on mine (SFR / VF customization). But it seems units sold in Asia allow separate Ui / Regional settings.
Hej,
Yes, you can change the language to English. I recently purchased mine online from ebay, and the phone was originally from Vodafone Spain.
hi, can you give a little more info on how to change the langauge, is it like a htc elf, you need a whole new firmware,
basically, how...
heres how you do it.
Buy it in spanish from vodafone spain.
when it starts up for the first time, you will see the android pictur.
tap the Cambiar idoma button in the bottom right corner
select one of the various Inglés options.
Then the device will be in english and you can sign in as normal.
If you have already signed in in spanish, go to the home screen.
Press the menu button
tap Ajustes
scroll to and select idioma y pais
select configuracion local
select one of the Inglés options
