QTEK ROM Upgrade / Urgent

Updated rom's to version Radio 4.16 and Rom 3.15.15

Hello i was wondering if the above ROM updates will work on my QTEK 1010:
ROM Version: 3.16.13 ENG
Radio Version: 3.19.01
I mean anyone tested if before or managed to upgrade his QTEK with the above ROM versions from O2 and were there any complications!!

Yes I did and it worked fine. I have it running on T-Mobile MDA, Qtek 1010 and Eurotel dataphone (rebranded Qtek). No problems.

I tried to upgrade and got the following error:

It has been answered a few times, look through fora. it's a general pocket pc language change question, but applies to this one too. You need to rewrite the ROM header to match your device. Can be sort of tricky if you don't know what you're doing.

I have the same qtek with 3.16 and 3.19 shall I do it or wait to uk version?

If you don't mind O2 startup screen & O2 autoconfig...

Hi,
My advise to you is to try to get the latest rom upgrade from
either your supplier or distributors.
Also be very wary and careful when you got advice from this
forum on where or which website to download etc especially the
one which you do not have any informations if it suit your device
or not. If it is not suitable then after downloading it to your device
it will freeze up and you have to get it replaced. These people who
give advise take for granted everyone who view this forum are
professional like them. They never realise there are lots of new
users of the device that are trying to find out more informations.
Sometimes no warning was given to you when they just give you
the website to download etc.. I am one of those new user and also
I believe one of the victims too. I do support their intetests in this
forum but not the way some of the advise are given. Hope they
got the message. So good luck to you and happy upgrading.

Why on earth would you want to go from 3.16/3.19 to 3.15/4.16? Makes no sense to me...

well, what i have notice there are more then one version of WM2003
one of them which i downloaded from http://members.lycos.co.uk/xdarom/ where i couldn't downgrade using the nornal method and i was force to use SD Card to go back to my previous ROM but the other version which i downloaded from this FTP Server 195.64.88.44 xda/xda works pretty good and i was able to downgrade to XDA-Developers Special ROM version 1.2 with no problems and without using SD Card.

I upgraded my XDA last night via my USB cradle. I had NO problems at all. Took a little longer than normal :?: But other than that it was fine.

I had the same set upwith yours previously. I upgraded to SER 1.2 and WM 2003 after that. I also upgrade my radio stack to 4.21 from O2 UK. But now, I am back with SER 1.2 and Radio stack 4.21. I wish Icould go back to my old Radio Stack 4.17.
With 4.21 Ilost the "G" and signal strength for GPRS.

Beeheij, why didn't you keep the 4.17 radio version with WM2003 ? Was it not running properly ?
I think it's always dangerous upgrading the radio module with newer version dedicated to other regions (UK)

I want to back to 4.17, but I cannot. Somehow during the process of rolling back I was kicked out.
As for the WM2003, the problem was in the SMS mode. When I picked a phone number, the "+"sign in my contact was not transferred tothe address in the SMS. So each time I wanted to send SMS, I had to correct the phone number.
My Battery Pack was not working. It hung my XDA.

Has anyone in the US used or done this upgrade? Since it also upgrades the Radio Stack I'm just wondering. If GPRS is getting dropped as stated in other posts it is more that the network drops you or you lose data connection between cells, or the network has a load balance that give placement to voice users over data when bandwidth is needed. Not so much that your radio stack does it.
On the other hand just incase anyone wants to prove me wrong :wink: who in the US has upgraded their radio stack to O2 4.21 and experienced a better performance than AT&T's radio stack (speed stability as staed on their website) :?: This means you probably already had to manually switch the default band 8) first, right? :x

as far as i know XDA v1.2 will not touch your Radio, it will just replace your old CE ROM with the new one which has lots of cool stuff.

You may use any ROM Updgrade, you may even want to cook your own ROM, but please do not think of performing a radio stack upgrade if your present radio is working well and giving you a trouble free service.

Hi guys,
I 'm in same situation but with higher versions, and can hardly wait to get a new 2003 ROM.
I can't just play with my XDA as I use it all the time for work and it's pretty stable so far. I just also can't tell that the ROM is 'totally' separate from the RUU in WM2003.
So the question is: is there any one here who has gone through a 2003 upgrade for Qtek 1010 to tell us his thoughts after the upgrade ?
I read a lot about the stability of 4.00.16 ENG, but all been written was for O2 R4.21 or T-Mobile R6.xx. Did any one in this region (Mid East) with R 3.2x went into this upgrade ? and what is the current status ?

I tried upgrading to 4.00.11 ENG from the kitchen ... no matter how many trys it just restarts and gives the same error message "Can't open USB/com port ..." ...
Do I miss anything ??

Tried to cook the new ROM as .nb1 file and used Xdatools from the kitchen to flash my device .... same result :? :evil:
Is it possible that there is a ROM protection on my XDA ??? :shock:

and follow the instructions thoroughly one by one and you can't go wrong, it did work for me, I was in the same situation.

Samohile - Thanks. It is good advice to not mess with the radio if you can help it.
My only problem is that my device periodically shuts off. Then pressing the power button soft boots it. I cant tell for sure but it seems that this happens after an incoming or missed call. It seems that other friends using ROM 3.18.04 and Radio 3.25.01 (like our friend biso007 here) seem to have very stable systems.
I can try upgrading the ROM only and see what happens but the information at www.carrierdevices.com seems to imply that both ought to be upgraded at the same time. I notice it is an Australian site. Does that matter? Also, the version of the radio upgrade is a bit confusing, at least from its name. (Radio Upgrade File : RSUv1.15_(GPRS_T32500_ENG).exe] ). I wonder what this RSUv1.15 translates into since the name of the exe file for the ROM is nicely descriptive of the version (3.18.04).
Any advice in this would be very welcome..

Well i am using WM2003 4.00.11 and its working fine for me no problem i cooked in the kitchen you just need to read arround this great forum for a whgile on topics such as upgrades and ROM to know exactly what you are dealing with and then you will able to upgrade smoothly.

Well i used the EXE methode the file i cooked in the Kitchen but i didnt change the version i left as 3 at the bottom of the page it works fine i upgraded from 3.XX to 4.XX then i downgraded from 4.00.11 to 4.00.05 then upgraded again all using EXE format so far working great.
i will be honest with you i know about the SD methode very well but never tried it so u have to make more search on this issue.
If you need anything more plz message me anytime and i will be more then whilling to help you step by step...

Faisal sorry for very late reply.
I have flashed my Qtek (bought in Abu Dhabi) with several versions of roms cooked in kitchens (Jeff's and Stefans's), but I have finally settled with ATT release wm2003 Siemens SX56 upgrade. It comes with most of the bugs fixed (except multiple reset bug) and is quite stable. I almost never have to reset it. You can flash the ROM only by SD card method though. You can try it. It's always a good idea to flash using SD card method. USB method using ProgramA is not very safe. I guess the network in Pakistan is compatible with the one in the UAE, so you can safely use it, if you don't mess up with the Radio Stack. My Radio is 3.23.01 and I have no problems with that.

Go to www.yorch.net the kitchen option and cook any ROM you like there.
For Shahram:
seems you have a sim-locked device. Check this link www.xda-developers.com/XDAunlock/. In case it doesn't work, go to the upper link and cook a ROM based on 3.17 and it will unlock ur device with the first boot.

Guys, be carefull when trying the upgrade, there seems to be major problems with the procedure.. so far, every set i tried to upgrade died and had to be revived via SD flashing.... there you have it. use at your own risk.

everything went perfect for me, except for a coutry ID error which anyway i could easely solve :wink:

One think you have to make sure of when you are flashing a rom is that your USB cable should ALWAYS be plugged in a direct on motherboard USB and not on a USB Hub! Fofodam I guess thats why you didnt manage to flash your magician succesfully! And you also have to change the country code of those ROMS to the one of your magician! :wink:

The generic WWE I would have thought would have been the biggest? but that isnt the case.

yes, i was wondering this too. Seems a huge difference in size.

well, i've downloaded both the uk and wwe version if you extract the exe with winzip then you find that the actual files are both 60.2mb, so I'm guessing that they are the same really.

again, the difference is in the extended ROM, only.

I have an mda flashed imate rom but 141 ext rom (arabic). How can I replace this only with 1.03.143? In general how can we get the extened roms only and flsh it to a device? I tried to flash all over but I get a message '120 wrong country code' or something. I did the change.bat with WWE and GER but nothing is working. still the same reply. I want to get rid or the arabic ext-rom.

What password have you used for changing your country ID ?

Anyone got the UK iMate JAM ROM downloaded? All my attempts from the clubimate site are slow and failing after 30MB or so. Could it be uploaded to the ftp site?
