Migrating from Nokia Communicator 9210 to XDA II - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I have purchased a new Pocket PC (XDA II) and wanted to migrate all my contacts from a Nokia Communicator to the new Pocket PC. The only way was to synchronize my contacts from Nokia Communicator to Outlook and then synchronize from Outlook to Pocket PC. In Nokia Communicator it is possible to customize the contact card of any person to have as many "Mobile" fields as you want. But unfortunately, all extra mobile numbers were ignored while synchronizing Nokia Communicator with Outlook.
Is there another way to migrate all contacts to XDA II with all their details?
I need your support.

I did this a while ago when I got the XDA I. Unfortunately, the "going via outlook" solution is really the only way of doing things. The major problem is that the outlook object model has all of its fields hardcoded (IMHO very bad coding practice), so multiple mobiles, holiday homes, etc cannot get into the outlook model.
I ended up doing a manual edit of everything once I'd synched, took an hour or so (300ish contacts), but less than writing a program to remap the fields.

Same here guys - PAINFUL, but worth it.
When I did this a year or so back I created a Word file with the mappings between Pocket Outlook, Outlook 2002, and the 9210 communicator; simply to make your life easier when re-jigging all your contacts.
Email me on [email protected] and I can send you the file.

Can Wizard/PPC sync with Palm Desktop?

I am a former Palm user. For me, one of the best features of Palm was the simplicity of the desktop software. Now that I am on PPC, I don't want to give up simplicity of Palm desktop software. Plus I HATE using outlook.
Is it possible to sync a PPC with Palm desktop software?
i used to be a palm user since Palm III and really liked the palm desktop for its simplicity. now im using mda vario (my first ppc), i have no choice but to use outlook as my calendar program. first thing, i need to export my data to outlook, but dont want to convert it to text and manually adjust it for outlook during conversion. i used airset sync program (www.airset.com) to sync my palm to web-based, then web-based to outlook.
you can use this program to:
1st. sync palm desktop and web-based (airset)
2nd. sync web-based (airset) and outlook
3rd. sync outlook and handheld/pda/phone using activesync
there are some drawbacks. you might be iritated when sync'ing to both outlook and palm desktop because when you want to switch, you have to change the settings manually on the airset sync. im not sure if its possible to install a 2nd copy of airset sync so you can just use the 2 airset sync for both palm desktop and outlook. or maybe you can manually copy the program from program files folder.
another (big) drawback is airset syncs calendar and contacts only. so i guess it may not be the program you are looking. my point here is, maybe others will find it useful. my only use for this was to export my contacts and calendar (one-time use) and have to live using outlook.
is this cr1t1c4l the ****er who hacked the exegene forum? what's the fun of it? :?

Merging Contacts from SIM to Phone

Hey guys,
Right now I have all my phone numbers saved in SIM card and each type of number (e.g. mobile or home) is separated for each person. Is there a way for me to transfer these numbers to phone and automatically join back under the same person? (i.e. Both mobile and home numbers under one contact instead of split into two)? Thanks!
sync with outlook, copy and paste then re-sync to the phone memory.
Perhaps you could dump the data into excel... but I'm not too sure. I have synchronised with outlook since my w800i (4 phones ago) and all of my contacts have remained merged.
What phone are you bringing your contacts across from?
Are they grouped on that phone? If they are then sync those contacts with outlook first, then sync your x1
nice i used w800i too!
Can you elaborate on the procedure please? --> "sync with outlook, copy and paste then re-sync to the phone memory."
Thanks!
What phone were you using prior to the X1?
Were the contacts merged on that phone?
Do you still have it?
Do you have outlook (set up) on your computer?
Each phone uses different software to synchronise with your pc (outlook contacts, calander info, files etc.). The xperia has software on the cd that would have come with the phone.
If you have the contacts already set up on your old phone how you would like them, then download the software for that phone (see manufacturer's website).
Sync that phone with outlook so that outlook has the contacts displayed how you want.
---------Now for the X1--------
If you are using Vista, install Windows Mobile Device Center, if you have XP install active sync 4.5.
Check out microsofts help file for syncing here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/default.mspx
Go through the help pages and you will find heaps more useful stuff.
Alternatively, outlook can export to and import from excel, so depending on your excel skills, you might be able to merge your contacts this way.
I sync my x1 with my work and home pc's daily so that all 3 devices are up to date.

Not active sync.. you would need the sony ericsson pc suite for the w800 or w810i (I had both... then a blackberry.. long story)... anyway, you can get the pc suite for the w800 here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/103/286/1192973163/Sony Ericsson PC Suite 2.10.46.exe
It's ~44mb.
This will allow you to get your contacts off your w800, then you need Active Sync to get the contacts from outlook onto your x1.

Get contacts from Outlook Express to phone

I have a problem with active sync because it doesn't speak to outlook express, only Outlook.
I had full Outlook on my laptop but had to dismantle it the other night and my other machines only have express installed. As I've also had to hard reset the phone it means I currently have no contacts on it and can't get them on from express because activesync is sh1t and doesn't support OE. Thanks Bill!
Is there a FREE app I can use to get my contacts from Outlook Express onto the phone easily? I didn't get a disc with my phone so no copy of Outlook I can install.
I don't want all my received emails or folders - just the contacts. Thanks!
Alternatively, is there any way I can legally download Outlook given that I have a PPC with a legit WinMo installation?
Aside from all that - I don't really want to have to use the full version of Outlook. I know it does more and I use it at work but why should I be forced to use it to sync? It's BS!!!
Download Jeyo Mobile Companion trial from http://www.jeyo.com/companion.asp to import OE contacts and sync with phone.
I have a similar problem, exporting from Outlook 2007
Trying to sort my contacts out and the formatting is terrible. i copied them across from an old SE w800i and had to do it via the sim card as bluetooth wouldn't work.
This means that home numbers and mobile numbers are listed seperately and many names are cut short.
A further problem is that the phone is showing both sim and memory contacts, i.e. duplicates.
I want to know if there is any way i can format all the contacts on my PC then copy them back to the phone, after having deleted all contacts on phone + sim.
Thanks
In on XP with Outlook 2007. My phone is running the standard rom.

[Q] Contacts from nokia

Hallo , Im new here and few days ago I bought Snap, i have problem with contacts, my old phone - nokia 6280 doesnt have option to put contacts from phone to sim, I exported contacts to file with nokia pc suite but I dont know where I have to put it in my HTC. I also have a problem with Tomtom, I saw in one thread someone said about virtual cursor application, I search it and I cant find it. The more I use my Snap the more I need your help, I also want an application that will block my snap within 20 seconds when I dont use it, will you help me ?
Hi, if you need help with contact from Nokia,, I have an experience. You have to send all of contact to outlook, rename Nokia standardd contact phone from OTHER to MOBILE. Windows mobile and outlook does not work with type of contact OTHER, only with MOBILE, WORK etc. The next way should be export to excel - rename - import back.
Bye Libor
Basically, I synced my Nokia E75 contacts to Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 via the Ovi Suite and then synced my HTC snap contacts to my Microsoft Office Outlook.
Any unrecognized contact numbers (e.g. "Others" category) will be very obvious when you view your contacts on your HTC Snap as there is no number assigned to that particular contact. If that's the case, just edit that contact on your Microsoft Office Outlook with the proper contact number category (e.g. Home, Work etc) and re-sync to your HTC Snap.
Hi, I had quite the same problem while I changed from E51 to Snap. On the E51 I saved all contacts to the storage card (*.vcf). When I put the card into the snap and klicked on an contact, it asked me if I want so save the contact in the phone. I did so for all my contacts and now it´s done

[Q] Using Android phone with desktop Microsoft Outlook

This question has been raised many times, but I couldn't find a single definite answer. To sync with Outlook there is software like Touchdown (albeit only for MS Exchange) and cloud services like Soocial and Funambol. Now, how do you sync ALL fields in Contacts, for example, if they are not 100% identical with Google? The later lets you name your phone numbers, for example which is impossible in Outlook. I am using Outlook both for business and personal, and it would be very difficult to move away from it, especially as my company uses it for business. However, I find WM 6.5, or Windows Phone 7, or Blackberry not particularly suited for my personal needs. So I bought Optimus 2X, but I have not started using it, because I don't know how to painlessly migrate to it from HTC Touch Diamond 2 with WM 6.5, which is seamlessly integrated with Outlook. I have about 1600 well-organized contacts, many tasks, recurring calendar items, almost all of them with applied custom-made Outlook categories. Filtering and sorting by categories really simplifies things. I am daunted by the task of re-categorizing all of my outlook items by hand. But I need to start using Android somehow AND desktop and laptop versions of MS Outlook with the categories I have set up. What is the least painful way to do it? I can't believe there's only me faced with this problem. Thanks for your help!
PS. Oops! Wrong forum. Re-posting in Android forum. Sorry!
