It seems O2 blocked the rom writing fuction in the Bootloader.
I did use ntrw to writing the patched english rom (which someone did flash it on MDA2), or the patched chinese rom (patched by myself), the bootloader can't regonize the card. I press many many time "camera" but nothing happen. I tried a 64M MMC and a 256M Lexar SD.
I think the only possibility is O2 won't allow use reflash rom in the bootloader anymore, until XDA-Devlopers  can crack this lock.
My current O2 XDA2 seems locked everything - extended rom is read only and the rom is "read only" too~~
If I can choose, I really want a MDA2 more then a XDA2.
If you have a serial cable, try to dump the rom to SD first, then use the same SD without formatting, with ntrw, I believe direct write via ntrw misses some stuff that the bootloader is looking for.

Hi Killercheung,
I think you also come from Hong Kong ...
I have the exact problem as yours, extended_rom is readonly, the Bootloader won't allow me to write from SD, the Camera button does not response ...
You know I've sent my xda2 to O2 for repairing the yellowish LCD ... but before that, I am trying to use the imate gitex_update.cab extended_rom update file to change the extended_rom. I have already modified the cab using WinCE Cab Manager and it should install custom files into the extended_rom. Once I get back my xda2 I will try ...
Do you know anywhere in HK can get a serial cable for xda2 ? We need to figure it out so that we can revert the English PDA to TChinese ...

Hey, You always write message in 3comp.pocketPC?
I know there is one shop selling the original serial cable for XDA (XDA1 /2 use the same cable), but the price is not quite reasonable, $280!!!!
However it seems quite hard to find a cheap XDA serial cable, except DIY~ I think we better get a check XDA usb cable and DIY~
BTW, I heard that someone in this forum even use serial and terminal can't flash their rom. I believe we can do nothing until XDA-Developers can hack the bootloader~

Hi guy,
I think based on the experience of ipaq, those terminal commands should work so far if we can connect to it via serial cables. I donno where I can get a cable for xda2 ... but if i can, i will definitely try ...
I also read posts saying problems in flashing rom using serial cables ... but I also read someone is not issuing the correct commands ... donno ... I need the cable ...
Gomadic.com sells them for around $20. XDA and XDAII uses same cable

hi there, my mates xda mini on t-mobile was lost on his device as he tried to install a version that wasnt meant for his device, now he dont have any OS as it removed the rom and couldnt install the other, so its a clean device, i have downloaded the rom from the FTP site and i find the file is
tmobile.nb1
how do i get this installed on his device???
im new to this myself and no idea how to do it, i have heard this and that among the forums and i am assuming that you transfer this to an SD card and install it from there, if this is what you do then how do you do it??? is it simple, or is there an extractor i can use to turn it into an installer????
PLEASE HELP,
its not a process for the light hearted, however is it a xda mini your friend has or the mda compact, without the clarification we cant really progress.
All he needs if it is the mini is to install the xda mini rom files, however if it is the compact you will need to do a bit more.
Reply if further assistance is needed
jim
it is the mda compact, what he did was 9as he is new to this stuff0 tried to install an xda2s software to it, and it took his old rom off the device, it then tried to install then he got the error message and would not go any further, now as mentioned earlier, i have the file from the ftp site which im guessing more and more now that i just put that file on an sd card, and flash it, only thing is, it mentions something somewhere i read that you need to copy files from the old rom which he dont have and i dont have access to. what do i do, as he is going to india for 6 months in 4 weeks and if he sends it away for repair he wont get it back in time... and im his only hope as it happened to me, only thing, i have xda 2s and im on o2, so i just got the rom from here, which was an installer from the pc through the usb connection...
please help!!!!
So I can assume that the screen just says serial on top and v1.00 at the bottom, ie the bootloder screen, if this is the case there is some hope however you will need a few tools and some patience
ntrw
romupdate utility
SD card reader / writer
at least 256MB SD card
once you have that, just follow the instructions for the ananasky ROM update, however the rom that you will be patching is the tmobile.nb1 one on the ftp site, or you could go ahead and try the anansky patch itself
as before let me konw how u are progressing
jim
I am new of the forum, I have just purchased a nm8 used magiacian (t-mobile MDA) it is I bring a problem.
The preceding owner has begun an updating of the rom that has not gone to good end and the device doesn't now set out anymore and from the following error:
USB V1.00 (if connected USB).
Serial V1.00 (if disconnected).
Bootloader mode ?
What must I do for going on?
I hope in a help
Best regards Luca
help
I pray you helped me, the first post is from beginners, but believe I have followed the standard procedure.
unloaded the rom
unloaded no-id
always tried upgrade more times failure.
HELP !
for the beginning you should use a standard ROM to get familiar with the device.
just go to the t-mobile website, downloads, chose your device type and then look for files named softwareupdates or so.
they will be in zip-format.
there will be an application in there. just go into bootloadermode, connect your device and start the upgrade. it's completely guided and will last about 20min.
although most of the ppl that read/write in this forum didn't install the eROM, I think you can start with all the cusomization stuff. If you have become more familiar with your mdac, you can try other modified ROM's.
just ask if you have more questions
greetz Stefan
i have to say that using standard rom (jam rom downloaded from club imate)
the upgrading applications hangs.....
and leave magician in booting mode, ready to be erased....
i was desperaded, but last experiences with motorola phones and its firmwares advice me to try again
so i had to launch againg that apps and it starts erasing actual rom....
i think there is a bug in few roms.... may be only in its installer
Have tried with the T-mobile rom but doesn't even go with that!
Caslu,
Have you tried a hard-reset?
If so: I guess you've got a decent TMO magician rom downloaded. So get maupgradeut_noid.exe from the ftp. Extract all the files from your TMO shipped-rom & put them in a directory, so you get some .nbf files, enterbl.exe & maupgradeut.exe. Now put the maupgradeut_noid.exe in the same directory. Connect your magician to the usb. It should read usb v1.00, if your magician isn't in bootloader press camera&power&soft-reset at the same time for a few secs. till you get the usb or serial reading.
After connecting it to the usb execute the maupgradeut_noid.exe twice, first execute might give an error 120 second should finish.
If this fails make sure you got a magician & not a charmer.
If it's a magician return it, cause I think it's broken. Hey why buy a device that's in an inconclusive state??
Regards, M
I think really that It broken.
Have picked it because little cost!

Download the latest shipped ROM for the country your magician was first sold in.
Ensure Activesync is in the normal mode (USB check is ON).
Run the executable ROM update program.
i've downloaded a t-mobile rom with A2DP for the MDAPro and i want to put it on my XDA exec so i can at last have A2DP on my EXEC. Is there any way to do this, or is there a O2 rom on the way that will give me what i want if i wait a bit longer. If i try installing the rom atm it just says country id error.

You need maupgrade utility.
follow this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=246177
I installed it on my jasjar.
A2DP works like charm.
maupgrade utility?
i can't find this anywhere, what is 'maupgrade utility' sorry if i'm missing something obvious.
i have attached a screenshot of the error message i get is there any way around this- i am using a XDA exec and can't find a program to allow me to make the t-mobile rom work
Right,Download the T mobile Exe to a directory of your chosing. using Winzip ( I use winrar) Right click the ExE file, and click extract here.
This will give you about 10 files. one of them will be ROMupgrade.exe. This is the bugger that gives you a problem. Now get a copy of MaUpgradeUt_noiD.exe and put this in the same directory. Unplug your usb cable, do a Boot loader reset. Light, on/off, and reset all together.
Screen goes blank with the word serial top centre NO backlight so hard to see. Plug in USB cable. Serial changes to Usb. now doubleclick MaUpgradeUt_noiD.exe to run it. follow onscreen prompts. takes about 20 minutes. Soft reset at the end. Dont worry if the displayed divice is not a Xda exec. Worked for me just done an up grade to latest full imate release as I'm writing this!! Previously I had the code 120 Country failure before carrying out the above installer exe swap.

Hi,
Mine was originally (Monday this week!) an O2 XDA Exec, until the OS got screwed when installing O2's GPRS monitor app fron CD. I have both Installed the Imate beta, and iImate full release, using the mothod described. I haven't tried with the T mobile Firmware yet, as my XDA is working perfectly at present ('if it ain't broke don't fix it !'). I do have a copy of the T mobile F/W stored, if I get a problem or, there are 'features' that would be useful. I can see no reason why it shouldn't install as described in my previous post, BUT I haven't tried it.!If O2 came out some updated firmware, I can't see why you counldn't install it as described. I'm looking for a copy of the original O2 F/W, So I can returned my Exec to its original spec if I need to. Especially as its only 4 days old!
Thank you
I got this working it's a good rom from tmobile and a2dp was working ok cut out a bit and then this morning it was workign amazingly and some bloody chavs came and hit me for no reason and broke my bluetooth headphones. Typical. i'm hoping some superglue will fix them
whats a2dp

Please, help me in the following situation
I bought Qtek s100 It turns on only in bootloader mode. What was before I don't know.
Now I try to reflash it via PC. I unpacked rom 1.12 from imate and put there file MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe and then ran it. The utility can't see the device information (it is normal) but it can't see the informatin about the rom I'd like to flash. I click @[email protected] but it says it gather information about the device and nothing happened.
I tried to run again about 20 times, but nothing helped.
I tried to flash it via card using rom-image but there is no invitation to reflash though I flashed via card more than 20 times other htc devices and then everything was ok.
I ran mtty 1.42 and gave command d2s, but it said unknown command. Then I gave d2s command then the device turned off.
I have qtek s110 with broken display. Is it possible to change rom-memory?
Is it possible to get service_manual for magician?
Thanks
First of all, did you back up your current ROM to SD before Flashing new ROM.
1. Yes. It's VERY GOOD. Disconnect your device from PC. You need to insert SD with your ROM to the device and Turn On. Press Power or Cancel button (i didn't realy remeber try all). After that device will flash ROM form SD.
2. No. It's VERY BAD. You need to know start address form what device should start after Reset. Sory here i did not know what it is.

Hi,
Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=46628 about the SD flash
M
thanks, but te problem is the device doesn't want to work with card. No reaction on the card with rom-image, turning off when typing d2s
Don't know where you bought & how much you paid for it (sure hope it's less then a new screen), but sir I guess you're scr*w*d.
Maybe you can replace your broken S110 screen with the one from the S100. There's a rar file on the board, with a detailed description & pictures on howto disassemble your magician, think it's called disassembly.rar.
EDIT You can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44841
M
thanks, but I think the screen is alive, it shows usb or serial and etc.
As far as i know, there is some diagnostic tests to understand where is the problem. how to activate it?
Diagnostics
Sorry I don't know of a diagnostics test. But you can have a bootloader without a working rom. Since you bought the S100 in a bootloader state, that's very suspicious to me. & that's why I advised you to replace the broken screen on your S110 with the one from your S100.
Hope you can sort it out & if you happen to run across a diag. pls update the wiki with it.
Regards, M
I have a nice new image for a i-mate sp5m , I used the bootloader to copy it to a sd card, I then pluged that sd card into another i-mate phone and when asked to flash said yes, the flash went ok, but when the phone starts I get "device authentification error". I have looked and people have mentioned a hex edit , but this was from 2003 to wm5 and not from this nice new image. I also read about a patch1.exe but again this was for a wm5 image.
