Would someone suggest the best way to add WiFi compatibility to my XDA2?
Where can one obtain XDA2 accessories?
Regards
Nick
I use the WiFi SD-Card from SanDisk personally.
It works great, has a good connection stability and comes rather cheap wehn you compare it to the competition.
One caveat, however, the WiFi drains batteries very fast -90 minutes is the max.

I am using:-
"i-mate (ModelPH10B)" aka XDA II
Running Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone edition (pre-installed)
ROM version 1.03.00 USA dated 09/24/03
Radio version 1.05.12
Protocol version 1337.12
I purchased the SDIO Wi-Fi card by SanDisk ("Connect Low Power Wi-Fi Card" - SDWSDB-000). I cannot seem to be able to install the driver on the handheld. The PC installation proceeds fine but the PDA screen freezes as it is installing. I have tried both versions provided in the companion CD (which are for PPC2002 and 2003). There is another version on SanDisk's site and it has the same problem.
It seems the Windows Mobile PPC Phone Edition needs its own driver. Any ideas? Which driver are you using? BTW, what did you pay for the card?
Thanks
SDIO Wi-Fi card by SanDisk - Drivers for XDA II?
The newest driver I can find on SanDisk's site is at http://www.sandisk.com/consumer/sdwifi.asp
and is called "Pocket PC 2003 V60 (new Oct. 10, 2003)"
It still hangs on my i-mate and the 'installing' screen on the PDA never progresses.
Any advice is welcome..
re
sorry, no advice but I have managed to get the sandisk wifi card working on my xda. I had no probs loading the necessary software.
Selected Quick instal on the start up screen then Pocket PC 2003, ensured my xda 2 was connected via cradle and active sync, then selected install the wifi utility.
Installed on the xda with no probs at all.
needed to change the device name afterwards.
Also have installed this http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=2825&associateid=148 and it's working great. Internet through my broadband connection at home and access to my mp3 collection anywhere in the house, well struggle upstairs tbh but I may need to move me router.
Not what you want to here but at least you know in can work.
Cheers, Shire.
PS XDA 2 just ges better and better.

Thanks. Is your XDA II running 'Windows Mobile Phone Edition' or 'PPC 2003' ? Which version?
I noticed that some of the posts on XDA developers that PPC2003 is the pre installed version on sets sold in Germany.

re
ummm well to be honest I'm not absolutely sure ?
Under /settings/about
Microsoft Pocket PC
Version 4.20.1081 (build 13100)
Proc: Intel(R) PXA263
Memory: 126.03 MB
Under /settings/device info
Version
ROM: 1.03.00 USA
ROM date: 09/24/03
Radio: 1.05.12
Protocol: 1337.12
In identity the model is PH10B
Not sure if any of that helps.
I have yet to confirm whether my device uses Pocket PC 2003 which is suggested under settings, or whether it is Windows Mobile PC 2003 which is suggested in some paperwork I have.
Hence I am confused
Cheers, Shire

All what you list matches what is there on my machine. Maybe there is a particular hardware or software problem with my particular machine. I will try a hard reset I guess.
What size is the setup.exe file that u used to install the drivers for PPC2003?
1,602,674 or 1,408,504 ?
Thanks for your help.
re
umm again not sure to be honest.
I simply ran the Sandisk Installation CD version 1.0 (a mini CD Rom).
The rest was as I described above, following the on screen instructions.
The only other suggestion I can make is that I have removed the O2Active app from start up.
Lastly, I have had a quick look on the cd rom and I do not see any files of that size.
There is a setup.exe in the English Folder on the disc and that is 1,376kb, but I didn't run from there, auto run took me to a front screen where I simply selected the english version for Express Install.
Cheers, Shire
Thanks for the replies so far.
I will consider the SanDisk SD WiFi Card.
Would someone advise where I can obtain this in the UK?
Additionally, is it likely that O2 are going to release something similar?
I notice a connection under the battery cover - any ideas what this is for?
I would very much like to add WiFi capability without an antenna protruding.
Aditionally, does anyone know if O2 are to release any other exciting accessories?
I got my XDA2 the other week and am very happy with it! Running it with a Jabra BT200 headset. Looking forward to the XDA3

google knew
think there is comming a backpack but i'm not 100% sure
"Additionally, is it likely that O2 are going to release something similar?"
unless it's a backpack making it specialy for the xda2 it would most likely be a rebadget other product and such are often more expensive
if it's directly from HTC you cant buy it from any other source then the phone companys which a backpack would most likely be
Finally got SanDisk Wi-Fi SDIO card to work..
Finally got the driver for SanDisk Wi-Fi SDIO card to install!
It took many hard resets and various combos (Imaginet software at startup; bypass it; 'Arabizer' on; 'Arabizer' off).
Dont know what finally mattered but in case someone needs this info in the future, here is what the situation was when it worked:-
..Install on 'storage' rather than default location on device
..Guest partnership
..All pre-installed options selected (Imaginet package/Arabizer) - this is probably applicable to sets sold in Dubai only
..No other programs installed or synchronization done before this
..Even so, the installer on the i-mate froze while copying files but the program appeared in the list of installed items after forced shutdown of the SanDisk installation after a few minutes of waiting.
At any rate, seems to recognize the card and picks up wireless signal and pings etc. Havent had a chance to fully check it out with web browsing.
I was able to get the Sandisk SDIO Wi-Fi driver to install on my T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition, running the .21 build of the PPC2003 T-Mobile Rom, but it won't recognize the card when installed. I did see that the PPC Phone Edition is not on the list of supported devices from Sandisk, but for some reason I thought it would work anyway. Anybody know if that's the case?
Thanks
For what its worth I ended up downloading drivers for the Socket version. (Socket & Sandisk cards are identical). The Sandisk drivers would install on my XDA II, but the device would not pick up an ip address from my DHCP server. When an ip address was entered manually I couldn't ping anything on the LAN. Installed socket drivers from their website (http://www.socketcom.com) I think and it all burst into life. Used it for a couple of weeks now no probs. Am posting this from the XDA II using the wifi card - cool!
Thanks for the info but just tried that on my T-Mobile PPC Phone and the Socket driver doesn't recognize the Sandisk card. Guess it's eBay for me!
;-)
Just an update
SanDisk WiFi SD working fine now on the imate. Browsing, ping and all.
re
glad to hear u got it sorted faisal, although you appeared to have some difficulty there, but worth while i think

I've downloaded PocketSkype which is used for PPC-PC calls through internet.
I tried PocketSkype on my iPAQ4150 and it worked perfectly.
But when I tried with XDAII+SDWiFi, it does not get connected.
Someone help me?
Sorry for asking, but does the sd wifi card works well on your XDA 2 ? I tried to let it work, but he can't open the AP Browser.

My SD Wifi works well with Cisco AP (both single & combo), but it can not work with DLINK624 AP.
Yes it does work.
I am using SanDisk WiFi and LinkSys WiFi router and they both work well.

You use SD Wifi with O2 XDA? This is my problem.
If using SD Wifi with other as iPAQ, it works perfectly.
Thks anyway,
I use SD WiFi with my XDAII and have no problem at all. It is easy to set up. And now I am surfing the Internet via Wifi hotpsot at home. he he
It's OK for me now. The problem is that I didn't install taojava (to save memory).
toajava. What is it. Where i can get it. My PocketSkype still doesn't work....
Find it in the newest ROM upgrade. 1.60.44 (asia)
wifi would not work on a xda1 because it dont support SDIO
xda2 does
It does not work on XDA1 because the CPU speed has to be faster than 400MHz as announced in Skype website.
I can chat online with GPRS, but voice is terrible in this connection.
I can't get pocketskype to work on my XDA2 either.
It says "signing in" forever.....
My SD WiFi works perfect.
It is also suppose to work on GPRS (although text msg only), doesn't work there either.
Has anyone contacted Skype on this ? it seems that it's not compatible with the XDA2, can it be ?
well it's still beta so i guess it may easy have some bugs
Does anybody know if it is possible to use the O2 2003SE upgrade on a QTec2020 bought in Denmark? NOT from O2!
what 2003SE ?
i have not yet heard about any release of SE for xda devices
if you mean 1.66 then it's not SE based
a rom dont know which country you got your device from
all himalaya's have the same hardware and can use the same software
and even when SE comes to the xda platform then people may think twice about upgrading if they like to be able to run older CE programs

@clievaio: I think the picture you posted is PocketPC not XDAII (no GSM signal).
My PDAphone is MDAII actually, but running 1.60.50 UK ROM. Skype is running well. But in case my friend, O2 XDAII with the same ROM, Skype is stucked in "signing in"????? Even I tried a lot of time to upgrade 1.60.00 ROM.
Who can explain the situation for me? Because I think MDAII and XDAII is the same hardware. And I uploaded the same ROM 1.60.50 for both MDAII and XDAII.
I will post the picture of connecting t'row.
As promised, this is the picture in the MDAII, configured as:
- ROM O2 UK 1.60.50.
- SD Wifi Sandisk card with Sandisk driver.
[/img]
me too
I am using XDAII with Sandisk wifi and a WRT54G. I have the same problem with skype. As for the Sandisk WiFi SDIO, it works perfectly with Scoket's driver utility.
Does anyone here know why Skype takes 'forever' to sign in?
Skype forever signing in
You are not alone! I 've got the same problem, using UK o2 rom 1.60.5... , newwest one, and a Socket SDIO card???? Skype just signing in forever? I believe that I have the Taojava too as it should have been inlcuded in the new rom. Any ideas?
As discussed with some Skype's staffs, they will fix this bug in the next version. Wait and wait.
Sometimes, when connected using the socket SDIO card, the XDA2 freezes, turning off causes the power to fade, then it will not turn on again unless i do a hard reset? Any ideas? I have the latest UK rom update.
What driver?
Hello mikeycollins13
Have you got the latest drivers? I bought my socket card a few days ago and got a driver version ending with a D whilst the one you can download ends with a C. I haven't had such bad freezes, but yes, it freezes sometimes for a short while.
Cheers
Johan
Yup
I downloaded the latest ones from their site. Still happening, returning the xda for repairs, don't know what else to do
Try this driver
This is the latest "D" driver that is not yet published on Sockets site.
Good luck
Johan
thanks
may hold off on sending it back now, did you ever here of this? And how do you look for Ap's? With Netstsumbler or Pocket Winc?
Netstumbler won't work
I can't use netstumber because it will only find the network I am connected to. I go to the connection settings, choose networkcards, and there is a list of detected networks. It updates itself often. I am often on a network with hidden SSID. The first time I have to manualy enter the network data (SSID, WEP) with the "add new settings..." option.
Regards
Johan
By the way...
I have one issue on it posted elsewhere and that is when I turn off my PDA the card seldom wakes again, but I only have to do a softreset, which is much less painfull than a hard reset. I can live with that.
Sent in for repair, back with apparent NEW o2 ROM, 1.66
This problem kept on happening and I sent back to o2 uk for repairs. They are returning it tome tomorrow, apparently a software issue, so they have reflashed my rom with a new ROM that is unaivalble on their site, ROM 1.66xxx (didn't get the rest) Don't know how to make a copy of it for you if you guys want one. Best,
rom 1.66, o2 uk
It has a new Clear type tuner, radio stack 10, that's all I found so far.

So it really is 1.66 - cool. I like the sound of the Cleartype tuner too.
So COME ON GUYS - HOW DOES HE MANAGE TO COPY THE ROM FROM OFF HIS PHONE SO HE CAN SHARE IT WITH US?
Hi Friends,
I have been using cs-WM5. Its great and cool to use.
I am having XDAII/WM5/Sandisk Wifi card - SDWSDB-000 . It was having challenge in connecting to wifi with WM2003SE itself. But it was intermittnet.
After upgrading my XDAII to WM5, i could not connect to wifi. I am using the driver from sandisk web site. But is is old, 2003 version. Thats all they have.
I am in Singapore. Singapore is having free wireless from this month in most of the places.
Is anyone using this combination XDAII/WM5/sandisk wifi card and workingproperly?
Awaiting yuor experience/suggestions
Thanks CS for your great WM5 Rom.

Waran

Better if you ask to the sandisk company (support divison) for new driver, may be you have chance to use it.
Or you can try driver from spectec. And if you lucky (it has the same construction with sandisk), you can still use it with WM5. But let us know the result if you try this way.
But try with your own risk. In my oppinion is no risk to try... this is the link for spectec.
http://www.spectec.com.tw/Download.htm
Yeah, the spectec cards will work for WM5 PPC. They are designed to work on WM5 PPC.
I was trying to get it work on the O2 Xphone, thats when I learned from spectec that they will work on WM5 PPC but havent tried it yet
Sorry for the second post...
Waran,
Since u are from singapore, just go to east gear shop in penninsula plaza and tell them you want to try the spectec wifi card before buying it. they will also help you in installing the wifi software.
Hope this helps
Oh almost forgot to say that east gear is on the 2nd or 3rd flor in peninsula plaza.
Hi there guys Was wondering if any one can point me in the direction of how to set up my wifi card i bought two days ago, I just called TDMS - T-mobile and spoke to there well trained staff who said they dont have a clue what im on about, My MDA can search for spots no probs and pick them up, But for some reason i just cant connect at all, Do i need to assign for example a specific IP address or Even a certain domain?!?! I know there was a thread in regards to this, But ive looked and it takes me to no further than what im at just now, Any help would be much apppreciated.
Joseph.
Ok since i have posted my last "Q", I have tried my MDA without a sim card in, So my web and walk CANT start, tried using the wifi, But it seems that the MDA is still looking for the GPRS to connect over wifi first, Any solutions around this?! Help would be great
Joseph.

Ok thanks for that.
my wifi sd card also can`t work with wm6!
I have a i-tec SDIO Wlan and it is working better under clean wm6. Having some problems under original ROM. I mentioned the same thing - Charmer tried to connect over GPRS first. Under the clen new ROM with wm6 - there are no pre-deffined connections - wlan works much better. Maybe you needo to install some WM5 drivers to get it work.
I'm using the SpecTec SDW-820 (11 MBit) with my Charmer (T-Mobile Germany, WM5/AKU3.3) and it works quite good. However, from time to time it seems like Windows does not recognize the card. If I insert the card, just nothing happens at all. After a soft-reset, everything is fine again. Strange issue, since it's working most of the time without any trouble.

gettin real bored of websites sayin they dont have one for wm6! cheers.
now using xp sp3 with tablet function. i discovered that the sdio wifi card 802.11g is not very stable during the file transferring. it will not complete the job. for example, when i transfer a 100 mb files to HTC shift, the line will be cut . do you guys have this problem?
problem solved
clicked this link for update microsoft sd8686 marvel link...then update to the latest one. then..problem solved. i updated it to 2008/5/2 from 2007 driver.all together got 3 version of driver. but i will try the stability of this one first.
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=sd8686 xp
Mine was so unstable it stopped working altogether...sitting at HTC in Hong Kong as we speak being fixed (I hope)....
wat OS are you using now? for me ...xp sp3 with latest version sdio driver..is quite stable.fully transfering 1G above files.
I used XP and Vista...neither worked. Definately hardward related. It will be 2 weeks this coming Tuesday since they had it...wonder how long I can expect to wait?
ya..definite something wrong with ur sdio wifi card since u got problem in vista too.
but mayb when the gadget get back to u, mayb u oledi can make a call if they flash the secret ROM to you in WM side. anyway...there we gona hear a good news soon from the shift project.
