How to turn wireless off? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to switch the wireless (mobile phone) feature of the XDA II off without having to use the stylus to click that signal strength indicator? Basically after a program which I can assign to a button so that with one press I can switch wireless features off in situations where I don't want to be 'interrupted'.
Thanks for any suggestions.
p.s. is there a .exe hidden in the system maybe? Or does that turn wireless off function exist in some dll?

Have you tried to press the "phone end"-button for some seconds?
With the "old" XDA that works fine.
Red-Button to turn of and the green-Button for reactivate...
Regards
Stefan

Thanks a lot for your suggestion...unfortunately, it appears that the convenience of using the hang-up button to turn off wireless has been removed in the XDA II...
On a different subject since you mention this button, I find hang-up button to be somewhat useless; have never used that or the green talk button to say the truth since I tend to use the on-screen talk/end talk button more.
Anyway, if anyone else has a suggestion re: this convenience...

Holding the Red Button down works fine on my XDAII.

Worked with my original German T-Mobile ROM, but doesn't seem to work anymore with the T-Mobile 1.60.00WWE ROM...

Switching the phone off

Is it just me or is switching the phone off a pain in the rear - mine takes ages to switch off (at least it seems like ages!) and if you switch the PDA off before the X has appeared under the ariel symbol, the phone just stays on.
Wasn't there supposed to be a shortcut to switch the phone off - hold the phone button down for 2 secs or something ??
Ravi
Hold the red phone button down, but it still takes a while
Cruisin-thru, I've tried pressing this red phone button to switch the xda ii off but the X never appears next the aeriel... what trick are you using to switch the phone off using red phone button? ^_^
the red button does not switch the xda ii off, unlike the stiation in xda. the only way i find is via the phone icon using stylus and it takes a long time, maybe requiring a eepeat tap at times
The red button will switch of the GPRS first if it is on. Then hold the button for another three seconds to switch off the phone. (BTW, the phone disconnect symbol shows up a few seconds later after releasing the button.)
OK something strange is going on here !
I've held the button for 20 seconds or more and it does NOTHING.
Darren at Tekguru.co.uk said in his review of the XDA II, that O2 had removed the facility to switch off the XDA II using the red button.
How are some of you guys claiming to do this if O2 pulled the code out of the machine ROM ??!!
Oh no, don't tell me the people who can do this (red phone button trick) are the ones who has the i-mate/mda ii? Does this mean that if I want this red-phone-button-trick, the only way would be to download, modify and re-upload the ROM on my xda ii? Switching the phone off is quite important for me as I use it to switch between the SIM cards... Maybe some xda developer can create a simple program to counter this defficiency?
Switching to the airplane profile seems to do the trick fairly well, even if it does need four taps to enable.
Steve
No magic here, I am using XDA 1.
DOH !!
I can confirm on my mda-II the red-button trick doesn´t work to switch off the phone...

Radio off app for XDAII?

Just wondering if anyone knows or can quickly create a little applet (not java!) that can quickly switch the radio functionality of the XDAII? The manual clicking of that aerial icon is a pain. I guess the aerial functionality is probably accessing some DLL or something? Maybe it'd be a quick job?
Switching Radio off
According to my manual you're sposed to be able to press and hold the red phone button - the manual says this can be used to toggle the phone off/on but that certainly isn't the case on my phone?
Anyone know why this isn't working properly?
Manual's wrong... from previous forum postings, this can be done on the original XDA but this for some really weird reason doesn't work on the XDAII. Hence a request to some Pocket PC coders out there who might be able to whip a quick utility up?
what is wrong with clicking the signal level icon, and selecting 'flight mode' ?
clicking signal icon
that takes two clicks - it's a lot easier to press and hold a h/w button
I'm serious
I solved this problem in a nice way using ButtonMax 1.01. Now I can, not only turn radio on/off by simply keeping pressed the up/down key on my xda's pad, but as buttomax supports macros definition I could even let it put my pin in the phone as I turn the radio back on!
Using it toghter with Alarm Today allowed me to solve the problem of scheduled on/off too. Both programs run in team and you can use buttomax macros at a scheduled time, setting them as an alarmtoday event.

Very good idea, indeed. Thanks.
It's possible to use the "Record" button instead?
I tried to use the “Record” button in the ButtonMax, but nothing appends?
If I use the down pad key, it work’s, why?
Can you help me? I really want to use the Record Button, that way, I can switch off the Radio(Phone) with the PDA inside the case in bell clip.
Thank's,
Nuno Cardoso.

Quickie Newbie Question - Turning Phone on/off

Hi. The instructions say that you can turn the phone on and off by holding down the red phone button. This doesn't work on my xda II. Does anyone know why? Could it be something I've installed?
Thanks.
i think you have to hold the button down for a bit and then press once more there were a thread about this not that long agoe
Rudegar, I try what you explain, but it doesn't work on my Qtek 2020 too. And friends from a french forum (PDA France) with the same Qtek as me have the same problem. Do you remember where is the thread about that pb ?
well it works on xda1 and the guy in the last post claim that it's the same for xda2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4979
Thanks Rudegar. It's written in the Qtek 2020 user's Guide too that pressing and holding the red button should toggle the phone on/off, but it doesn't work. The only way is to select the "flight mode". That means : ejecting the stylus, making 2 clicks and put the stylus in his hole again. Not very intuitive. If you have an idea on how to activate this function, it would be nice ...
Turning the phone off
Pressing the red button with picture turn the "GPRS" off it it is on not the phone.
Toturn the phone off use the stylus and tap on the signal strength connectivity indicator on the top of on the display screen. You will then get a message " turn wireless off " in blue and if you tap this you will turn the phone off. You may need to use your PIN code to turn it on again ....... - So don't forget you PIN code!!!!!
To turn it on again ........tap the same indicator again and you and turn on the phone.
Good Luck!!

I know that Rafiki ! Maybe my english is not good enough and you didn't understand me.
What I want is only to be able use the red button to switch the phone on and off, as it is described in the user manual !
McDoPDA : My manual says that the red button is to end phone call or turn GPRS Off.
Most unhandy and I also find it a pain to switch the phone Off & On quickly !
Hopefully "they" will have fix for this in the future!

so, let's hope "they" will do it as quick as possible ! And that it works on a french Qtek 2020 too... not only on an english XDAII !
Hi guys,
This problem was introduced with the 1.60ROM. Before with the old ROM, I could turn my MDA II off using the red button. After the ROM upgrade it turns the GPRS off. Too bad they didn't make that a user choice.
Wouter
On my french Qtek 2020, I had the problem with the 1.52 ROM. When I upgraded to the 1.58, I still had the problem. There is no 1.60 french ROM availiable for the moment...

Turn off the phone part

Hi,
I noticed that the Qtek 2020 doest not turn off the phone when I press and hold the red phone button.
Is that normal?? It worked fine with my XDA ( Wallaby).
regards,
Silver
When you say "turn off the phone" do you mean turn off the radio - so the device will not make or take calls?
If so, that is done by tapping the signal strength meter on the top bar and then tapping "Turn on flight mode". Flight mode gets its name from the necessity to turn off the telephone on an airplane in flight, but continue to use the PDA.
IF not this, please explain more.
Turning off the radio
Hi,
you are right I meant the radio.
With this XDA ( Wallaby) the radio can be swiched off with pressing the red phone button for 5 seconds.
This is discribed in the qtek 2020 (Himalaya) Manual as well.
But it does not work this way for me....
I wondered If you can try it with your XDA2?
Let me know.
Thanks,
regards,
Silver
Holding down the red button on my imate (and all of its cousins) disconnects the current GPRS session, it does not turn off the radio.
Yeah holding down the hang up button just disconnects GPRS on the XDA II and doesn't turn off the phone (radio).
I prefer having to switch the phone off through the signal strength box because with my XDA it used to turn the phone off in my pocket so i'd miss calls.
Thanks a lot guys. So possible misunderstood the manual then.
Thanks again.
regards
Silver
let me add that using the flight mode with XDA II is recommended in real flights as it turns off BT and IR as well ... which can intefere with the air navigation systems if left on
Hi,
Is there anybody that can write a little script with a button that could do that?
regards,
Silver
you can try PocketZenPhone. it has an option in its profiles for turning the radio off.
Thanks boybi,
A little script that playces a phone icon in the comand bar that shuts or turns the phone on would be very useful.
Can somebody do this??
regards,
Silver

Pressing call button in Manila ROMs redials last number? Oversensitive??

Hi!
I've experienced this problem on a variety of Manila ROMs (Rafyvitto, Arto, UFE).
(I don't know if it's an issue with non-Manila ROMs as I haven't tried them)
(Since it's not related to a specific ROM, I'm posting here than in the particular ROM threads)
When I press the call button, it almost always starts redialling the last number.
What I would like it to do (and what I think should be the default) is to go the phone screen (same as pressing phone softbutton on Manila Home) - and give you an option to dial a number...
Does anyone else have this trigger happy call button?
Any suggestion for fixes?
Thanks
/Sifaan
it's a known problem with the htc phone canvas in our device.
You can use ae button plus and assign the call button to take you to the phone screen. It works fine like that

Seems like I was a bit hasty here... it works fine with the keyboard, but the remapping also affects my bluetooth headset - with this setting, I can't answer a call by pressing the button on my bluetooth headset (because it is interpreted to run phone app rather than answer the call).
I mainly use bluetooth headset when driving, so it kind of defeats the point if I have to pick up the phone to answer the call...
any ideas... please....??
