Using XDA II with Games - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi,
I'm interested in purchasing a XDA 2. Can someone please let me know how is the directional pad feels when use it for gaming? I know some d-pads are very difficult to use when playing games. Also, I notice that XDA 2 only has 2 application buttons, the other 2 are used for phone pickup & hangup. Can I use these 2 buttons for other WM2003 applications, such as mapping them for Emulators or games. Thanks!

It is great with games. The pad is fine, and the screen makes it even greater.

Universal VS XDA II

Hi i was wondering if it was worh upgrading from the XDA II tothe Univerasl, i know about the size, screen res, wifi, 3g and all that, what i am REALLY interested in the its multimedia performance.
Whats it like with the latest version of TCPMP/Coreplayer?
whats it like playing emulatos (Masteralls Pocketsnes, Picodrive, Finalburn and Ldchen and Schtruck's FpseCE) using the GAPI tweak?
(All the above compared to the XDA 2)
Also does it have an 8 way d-pad for games?
Thanks in advance!
The universal has serious gaming issues so feel free to ignore the above questions.
I like the universal... but...
I recently upgraded from the Alpine to the Universal (Orange branded SPV M5000) and from what I have experienced so far, I have to say that it was really worth the upgrade for me personally. However, I primarily use it for business purposes. I have tried emulators on the universal and so far I'm not terribly impressed. They do work, as it was with the case of an old Sega Master System emulator, but they are not best suited to the universal's screen (from what I have experienced). There isn't as much flexibility with the d-pad either, when compared to the XDA IIi. However, I did download a copy of Nine Hole Golf 1.0 today and it works wonderfully (its free on Microsoft's site and certainly passes the time!). If anyone intends on using it for occasional light gaming, I think it is worth the upgrade - but if you're a serious gamer you might want to look elsewhere. Hope this helps even a little.

Disuss your success in first person shooters

Recently I've been addicted to rainbow 6 multiplayer on my xperia play. I've noticed that I have a much easier time aiming and headshots then other players... Chances are they are gaming on a regular touchsphone, scrambling to aim at me but die before they can shoot.
At a record of 1887 to 817 deaths, it's safe to say because of the keypad advantage, I am better then other players. How are you guys coping with fps??? I was never good at fps but I get records like 100-26 with 42 kills being headshots

I would also like to add that I am extremely happy with this phone, for the simple fact that it's for gamers.. Casual or not the gamepad really enriches the experience... It's sad that sony releases this when they are struggling and don't promote or back it properly... If it was samsung that released it, I'm sure it will dominate the entire cellphone gaming market

Ya they definitely released it at the wrong time, or atleast should of worked more on the release games...but i think its a fantastic phone, the gamepad is beautiful, playing first person shooters against any touch screen players does put you a step ahead, i personal like nova 2 never really enjoyed the modern combat, felt really awkward to play. Probably the best part of the phone is being able to play ANY emulator on your phone at perfect speed with a proper gamepad, doesnt get much better than that! Personally loving the playstation emulator and snes! - Kes

Owning on rainbow 6 is good fun
Im very disapointed in the way gameloft have applied the right touch pad, all they have done is use it to emulate screen swipes, i dont understand why they cannot use it to emulate an analogue stick like they do with the left one! Like on battle bears

Yea the emulators are awesome on it. I can't imagine people playing Mario 64 on just touchscreen... It must be very hard and awkward to use the Z bottom... I mapped mine to L2, so it's awesome

I find it much easier to swipe scroll like what they do now. It makes it easier and faster to turn while giving you perfect accuracy for precision when needed

Faster? I don't find that. If the guy is behind you then you have to swipe a lot of times. By then you are as good as dead.

This.
Swipe look is rubbish. It's the one and only thing that ruins fps's enjoyability on the Xperia Play for me at the moment.
Unfortunately Gameloft is only FPS option at the moment. Just like the Ipad 2. They make all these grand promises of great games like Infinity blade yet there hasn’t been any games like it since.
Edit: Has anyone tried Modern Warfare 2?
You guys are screwed the new PSP is on its way and it stole all marketing from the play. Actually the play had a great buzz as far as the web goes but that's as far as it went.

Not really "screwed" just getting the phone for gamepad emulators is already worth it.

You are right but I did buy the phone for more. I was hoping for PSP games like God Of War. If it doesn't get any more support I may switch back to my 3GS and give this one to my daughter to play games on.
Finally got around to playing Rainbow 6 (great that it was free!).
Seems like top fun online.
Went in blind, straight into multiplayer not know controls etc and managed 11 kills and 12 deaths on the Play. That might not seem good, but it's good for me in an FPS.
Also turned the horrid music off, made it feel a bit like Counterstrike...how good would that be on Android btw?
Can see myself playing Rainbow 6 a lot now.

The PSVita and the XPlay are two entirely different devices. The Xplay replaces your phone, ergo you have it on you at all time. It's not a gaming beast like the PSVita, but the battery lasts all day, you can do all your phone stuff on it, and when you are in the mood for games there are a myriad of choices and they all play awesome because you have physical buttons rather than just a touch screen.
The PSVita is great for places where you actually plan to bring it. Like flights, ferry rides, etc

I only bought the phone for emulators originally. I didnt even care about the playstation store. All i wanted to do was play some snes/megadrive/mame games on my telephone. You can not play these games on touchscreen only. Totally uncontrollable.
Didnt even know gameloft were porting to the xperia play. Got alot more than i bargained for. Some (Most?) Gameloft games are very awesome.
Being able to play mobile phone games and even browse the internet with the control pad is way better and more fun than any touch screen only on the market atm.

Only typing this because the host is choosing a new map
I got this phone for the emu. Games we played years ago and we still are playing them. Screw anything new.

You Serious? My 3GS with it's tiny screen is gathering dust.
The Play has had much better support than I thought it would, just GameLoft games have been keeping me busy. Its only been out two months give it time.

Ps3 controller

Any using one with gameloft Games like nova or 9mm?
Thanks

Those games don't support controller functions. (I tried)
You need the sixaxis app from the market. it takes a lot of work with the screen tap emulation to get it just right, but it is well worth it. I play modern combat 3 with my ps3 controller, so it should work on anything.
Ya I have been screwing with sixaxis and a Sony branded ps3 bt controller. Finally got my own used one. Paired it up and with some touch mapping I can play gta very well. And about 9mm and Nova I'm still testing profiles for each but was able to play both with my controller. Just tested a few basic functions like anolog stick left and right and some other controls. Hows MC3 I'd like to try it. So far I'm fully set for gta and am working on 9mm and nova2 mappings, and I'm going to map air attack HD, madden 12 (if do able), NFS shift, and NFS hotpursuit, would like to do mc3 as well. Waiting to find the perfect settings for the buttons...

How hard was the touch mapping? I'd like to give this a try. I could buy the non dualshock controller since I doubt vibration works anyway.

Gta supports ps3 controller without touch mapping. Fyi

Not really hard at all. I did airattack HD last night and the tricky part was setting it to relative touch and getting the anolog button sensetivity right. For gta I noticed it worked without touch profile but it wasn't controlling right so I did one anyway. I have started on 9mm and Nova. Should be done with those Tonight after work.

Ok, I don't own a PS3 gaming console, so I have a stupid question.
Do I just need to go to the store and buy a bluetooth PS3 controler, or is there a off brand one that works well also?
Thanks!
EDIT: something like this I suppose... http://www.google.com/products/cata...a=X&ei=IpcUT5zUM8HgsQKFs4DsAw&ved=0CHgQ8wIwBA
Pretty sure off brand ones will work but I know from experience the Sony sixaxis works great. Used ones can be bought on ebay for around 25 bucks... or go New.

Will do. Thanks.
Off brand ones don't always work with sixaxis, might not work with gta. I bought and returned one before getting the official ps3 one. The legit ps3 controller works great wired without sixaxis, or wireless with sixaxis. Also, the ps3 keyboard works greas as a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Looks like the only "for sure" is to get the controller with the Sony name on it. Quick question for those that run this setup. The Dual Shock controller has the "rumble" does that work with the tablet setup? If not, I would hope to find one without the dual shock to save a little cash. Seems like writing the program to use the rumble would be a lot of unnecessary work.

Play your PC Games Everywhere

Recently i found a app that can remote play pc game on the smartphone or tablet everywhere you like and its also have the game mapping tool on it. It same as the shield pc game streaming feature but not require the desktop or laptop to be upgrade. This is good news.
The app is call kainy
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rYWlueS5jbGllbnQiXQ..
The problem is does anyone been using it before and does it lag when playing the games?
I have tested it on my Galaxy s3 with gameklip and ps3 gamepad bud performance is not that good. Its pretty CPU hungry on the PC and button mapping is strange at least with the Sixaxis app.
I hope Shield app is better
As of playing over 3G then this is not realistic to get even satisfactory result. Latency of both 3g connection and your home line is way to high.

It's not a good choice right now. Over local net splashtop will work as I've ran pcsx over it to my tv with minor issues of controller input.
But you can get it working if you make an effort to do so. Right now that's the best I've seen so far but like all of them the game must run in window mode.

I've never been happy with any of the versions of Splashtop for playing games, due to image quality and latency. It's the one thing about Shield that I feel they really did well (which is why it needs the special PC hardware). The latency is incredibly low and the image quality is amazing. At least in the games I've played on it (Monaco, Borderlands 2, Skyrim, Need For Speed, Assassin's Creed 3)

What type of controllers are you guys using?

So I've never been much of a tablet or phone gamer, but it'd be a waste with so much processor and gpu at my disposal. I just got Drastic and GBA emulators so I'm having a ball playing DS and GBA games. I do wish that I had a controller though. So I'm looking to buy one. Right now, I'm thinking about getting a Moga portable or iMpulse. I could just hook up my PS3 controller but I want a controller I can throw in my bag cause I do a lot flying and playing some emulator action would kill some airplane time. What kind of controller set ups do you guys have?
I have a Bluetooth controller called phonejoy, which is also the name of the website I got it from. Used in conjunction with an app called bluezIME, free on the market, it works perfectly with all my emulators. I have emus for DS, GBA, GBC, Game Gear, Genesis, NES, SNES, and PSX. it will also work with some android native games, but it was pretty flawed back when it was still new to the scene with the native games. It may work better with them now, but I never bother with them.

I was looking at that one! I have some questions if you don't mind answering. Can it hold the tablet in landscape mode? If not, is it uncomfortable using the controller while it's closed? How are the buttons? (too sticky?, cheap feeling?, too much resistance?, etc) That one looks really portable and I actually like the idea of being able to place a phone in the center, but unfortunately I use my tegra note more for gaming than my nexus 4 so I was unsure whether or not to research further.
PS: Whoa. Not to be weird but your post has your location and it says Macon, GA. I'm a Mercer student. Small world!
I actually have the model that looks like an old ps2 controller. Nowhere to place a phone in the middle. I always invest in a stand of some form or fashion for my devices.
At the time I bought this one, it was only one of two models they had, and the other one was the same, just without the thumb sticks.
I never really liked hand held games, so that one was a better fit for me.
And I live in Dublin now, 45 minutes east of Macon. Had to get out of there. Macon has gone so far down hill since we first moved there in 97. You picked one of the best schools around to go to tho, just sucks that its in Macon.
Hope this info helps.
