GPRS & RSU 6.24.00 - Networking

I upgraded my TMO radio stack from 6.18.00 to 6.24.00 using files from yorch.net's Upgrade page. Process went smooth! 8) Phone & GPRS all running perfect. Using ROM 4.00.21.
Only problem was ActiveSync 3.7.1 didn't recognize partnership & would only connect as a Guest after the RSU. :? The fix: uninstall ActiveSync, restart Windows, reinstall ActiveSync and it detects new hardware & starts the create partnership wizard. Okay now.
Some GPRS stats after the RSU 6.24.00 install:
o I live in Austin, TX USA & I tested the internet connection via www.texan.net/speed.htm:
3:35pm CST 37.1Kbps
3:40pm CST 31.6Kbps
Clear IE History & Temp files
3:45pm CST 68Kbps
Held an incoming call, GPRS held, took call & resume testing - all as published. Clear History & Cookies again
3:55pm CST 51Kbps
Are these GPRS traffic numbers typical? Good ... high ... low?
Hope this helps y'all. 8)

It cuts the gprs connection after 2 or 3 minutes

When I use my XDA to go to the internet it works for a 2 or 3 minutes and it cuts the comunication.
Is there something to mantein the connection?
i have:
ROM Version: 3.14.40 ENG (Tmobile)
ROM Date 11/26/02
Radio Version: 6.18
Protocol Version: 324e4
Can you Help me?
It cuts the communication and doesnt go to stanby or the connection is d/c when the device goes to stanby?
You know i mean the screen turns off your GPRS d/c?
:?:
No, it doesn't go to stand by mode...
When I'm browsing internet, is cuts the acees via GPRS...
After several minutes of successful browsing, things stop working. All of the sudden, if I attempt to access a page, I get a, "The page you are trying to open cannot be found" error. After this occurs, I must disconnect and re-connect to GPRS to be able to browse again.
I can cause this to happen at will: just browse for a few minutes, then I get the error.
Ummm it happened to me once but it wasnt the XDA's problem it was the operator - When i called the customer support of my operator they said that there is load up on the GPRS in my area but after that call in several days the problem didnt occure anymore and i can browse normaly now.
I think you should call your Mobile Operator talk to the customer support they can help you.
As for your XDA i think there are some Newer Rom Version that you cn upgrade too, check the ROM section
Didn't you connect through Inbox or another application? Inbox disconnects data call about 5 minutes after it has finished downloading e-mails. Some programs (IE, Ezos WAP etc.) do the same..

I cured the problem.
Under the modem settings for the connnection, tap and hold the modem setting. A context menu will pop up. Make sure "Always Dial" is NOT selected.
Good luck, and let me know if this works.
PS I received this advice from T-Mobile Cust. Care. They have been doing a great job solving my issues!
It works
I've tried it for the last hour, previously I was sure the GPRS connection died after a few minutes, now it keeps working, so I am very happy.
Having a Dutch XDA from O2 with Vodafone GPRS
gprs cut out?
Hi,
When I am not using the internet for about 10mins the
connection is automatically cut off? I have my GPRS always
on when on power saving mode.
Any ideas how to keep the connection so that you wont be
cut off? :?
Hoi,
For me the GPRS issue is fully resolved. It's stabile and faster then ever.
I put in a new simcard: (this resolved the issue of not beiing able to turn off/on the phone when not fully charged)
I installed the latest ROM upgrades 3.14.13 en 4.16 UK
On a site with autorefresh every 5 minutes, i had it succesfully on for 2 or 3 hours.
when not refreshing
I mean when I didnt use the internet or refresh when
on gprs, the xda will automatically disconect the gprs
on or about 10 mins after you last used it. Maybe
might have to sort of change the xda setting on gprs.
My GPRS is always enabled on safe mode. But still
it cut off after 10mins??? can anyone help here?

Problem with Wmodem using IrDA???

This site is great, its helped me a lot. But right now I am having trouble with Wmodem. I have set everything up and my PC & XDAI (using IrDA) are communicating fine, using the steps from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=2816&highlight=irda
But when I push the start button the connection between the two devices is made, but the signal icon or the GPRS icon (if it is on) disapears and dosn't come back. The signal icon comes back only after I stop Wmodem. So I am unable to connect to GRPS. What is going on here???
Device info.:
ROM version: 3.17.03 (XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2)
ROM date: 05/15/03
Radio version: 6.18.00
Protocal version: 324.e4
If you need any more info, please let me know. Thanx!!!
I was under the impression WModem only allows connection via Analogue CSD (ie. GSM). I don't think you can currently use the XDA as a GPRS modem.
Thank you, but I am pretty sure that you can use Wmodem with GPRS. As the thread I got the directions from stated it was for GPRS.
I am wondering if a different ROM would make it work???
Have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=2579&highlight=wmodem+gprs and this PDF from O2 which says GSM only http://www.sourceo2.com/NR/rdonlyre...e3iadmr2qr6kna/CTS1299-1+Setup+Xda+Modem.PDF
Thank you for those two threads. But Carlos I think said it best "use another phone". At least then I can try the PPC 2003 ROM.
The XDA2 (don't know about the XDA) disconnects the voice side of your connection to your supplier, while keeping your GPRS connection open. This means GPRS works, but you can't use the phone, SMS or anything else.
When you close WirelessModem, the normal service is restored, with full phone functionality.
On the XDA2, you can see this happening in the connectivity icon at the top of the screen. When Wmodem is started, the signal strength indicator is replaced with an X, but the GPRS icon (two arrows pointing horizontally away from each other) remains.
Hope this helps.
sublimatica - Thanks for the help, you are right about the icon and not being able to see it. I did finally get it to work, after pressing dial on my PC then turning starting Wmodem (w/ old cooked 3.17.03 ROM). But I will be looking for a phone with modem capabilities, as Wmodem is way too slow & unreliable for me.

No GPRS connection after incoming call

I have wrote an eVB application which transmits data over GPRS that works fine on a Pocket PC 2002 device and on the XDA II (Pocket PC 2003) with eVB Runtimes installed. However, once an incoming call is answered on the XDA II the GPRS connection can not be re-established. This is handled at present by the eVB application "warm booting" the device after a set number of minutes of no GPRS connection.
Am I correct in thinking that the GPRS connection can not be established because the modem needs to be reset and if so how is this done programmatically as the eVB application runs in full screen mode so the user can not reset the modem by switching in and out of flight mode.
Thanks
Tony Hudson
From my experience it might not be the case.
I usually run PocketIRC and MSN Messenger on my XDA-II through GPRS. Once incoming call came in GPRS got disconnected (this is normal I guess). But GPRS will reconnected itself immediately after I hang up the phone and continue using these 2 apps without soft-reset or even turn on and off flight mode.
The interesting part is if the call didn't last long only MSN Messenger got disconnected but PocketIRC still connected and I can continued using it from old session! (but if the call last too long I will get Ping timeout error as usual)
If my memory serve me right I remember that radio stack version play some part in this GPRS problem. You might tried different radio stack (I'm using 1.18 version). And it might came down to different service provider GPRS configuration.
Upgraded XDA II firmware to ROM version 1.72.00WWE, Radio version 1.17.00, Protocol version 1337.28 and Ext ROM version 1.72.181.
No difference in the outcome to my problem. Any SDK's for these devices or activex components for manipulation of radio modem?
Thanks.
I have determined that I can reset the radio/modem by using the extended TAPI function lineSetEquipmentState. However I do not want to reset the modem if the user of the device is in the middle of a telephone conversation. Can this telephone call status be detected using the extended TAPI for the state/class change messages of the radio/equipment/GPRS?
I have nearly the same Problem.
Did you found a solution?
I want to know too!!!

ActiveSync slowing up Vodaphone V1605

Hi, I have a user who's Vodaphone V1605 (Hermes) slows down to a snails pace when using it. If I get him to check the running programs the only thing running is activesync. Once we kill activesync the PPC speeds up again. If we do a Soft reset Activesync starts automatically.
Is there anyway to stop Activesync starting automatically?
I have searched the internet and cannot find any tweaks or hacks to do this as it is becoming quite annoying.

O2 XDA Orbit GPRS and WiFi issue!

Hello
I have posted this on the Artemis board, but got no reply.....
I have an O2 XDA Orbit that uses Push Email and exchange server syncing. Recently I have noticed that if I turn flight mode on at night and then off in the morning, it requires a soft reset to get the system to sync my email and calendar via GPRS. Up to a month ago this was not an issue and it has manifested itself on both WM5 and WM6. The server is running on 2003, but was upgraded to 2007 (at which point all fell down!!). Server was rebuilt with original 2003 settings and it works, but I get this niggly problem in the mornings when trying to sync on my way into work. Reception is good, but the GPRS will not open a session until the phone has been reset.
The following information is taken from the device:
ROM version - 3.4.206.2 WWE
ROM Date - 18/4/2007
Radio Version - 02.67.90
Protocol Version - 4.1.13.28
ExtROM Version - 3.4.206.101
The irritation with the WiFi is that the option to close a WiFi session from the top bar on the screen has been removed and now you need to go into the Comms Manager to close a session.....anyone worked out a way of retrieving the old functionality?
Regards
Fucawi
