Downgrade T-Mobile Radiostack - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Anybody know how to downgrade
T-Mobile Radio Stack ver 6.24, since I used this version got much bug problem like signal loss, operation failed ?
Can somebody give me a suggestion what is the best radio stack version for T-Mobile MDA ?
thanks in advance
NaN

Confirming you're experiencing these problem using the T-Mobile network?
If so I'd upgrade/downgrade or whatever you want to call it to the AT&T
radio stack version A.20.10. At least thats what I did!
BTW I upgraded/downgraded using the Windows root folder method.
This is where you copy the four needed files to your devices windows root folder and run the upgrade/downgrade from there.

Qman, care to explain wad the 4 needed files are?? lets say I am using radio version 4.21 and I need to downgrade to 3.16, how do i go about doing it??

More question are you sure there is no problem using AT&T Radio Stack for T-Mobile ?
I'm using this device on Asian region I only use GSM 900, if there is no problem where I can DL that radiostack version ?
I know window root folder method this is the explanation "just copy and paste 4 files from RUU/english, the 4 files is 2 files from file name monitor and RSUupgrade.cp64 and remoteflash.exe" that is what I do for radiostack upgrade for T-Mobile device

HI gemes,
Send me a PM with an email address and I'll send you a copy of the AT&T radio stack upgrade.

what version of radio stack for what country and what device

hi all!
i just upgraded to ppc2000 /version 4.00.01 eng on my austrian t-mobile mda.
that does work. but as i tried the earlier version of it (imho 3.xx) before i think that connecting to gprs was WAYS faster. so i thought of up/downgrading my radio stack which is 3.16 at the moment.
some ppl are saying they use version 4 or even 6... BUT: can i use them as well? what are the limitations ???
here we use gsm 900/1800 so i guess any us-att stack that is meant for 1900 won't work, right?
so: what version to use, and what do you suggest?
and one more Q: upgrading OS does NOT upgrade the radio stack, right?
pls anybody confirm.
thanx!
regards ize|man

Yes, that is right!

As long as you are using a cooked ROM, or .nbf file on SD card ... be careful as some opertors' upgrade contains both RSU and ROM update in one exe file!

How do you upgrade your radio stack?

Many people have said that their running t-mobile radio version 6.24, I'm currently on 6.18 and want the always on GPRS. I've searched the site but can't find where to get the radio stack and how to upgrade it? I already upgraded to ROM 4.00.16 and it works great.

Tom- Are you sure you want to do this? I beleive that 6.24 is a beta version. I haven't heard a lot of feedback on it, but I have heard that going back to 6.18 is going to be near if not impossible after the upgrade.
I held off on the radio stack upgrade because I don't want the official T-Mobile upgrade to have issues. By only upgrading the OS, I can easily re-flash to the original factory rom before running the official T-Mobile upgrade when it is released. That upgrade could potentially fail if the radio stack upgrade portion detects a version other than the official ones that it expects. Not sure on this though...
Either way, below is a link to an RAR file that has the OS and the radio stack. Extract the .EXE using WinRAR or the like and give it a go. Just to be on the safe side, I wouldn't run this update on any other OS than the last official T-Mobile upgrade.
Good Luck

trhuseby,
did you try the new t-mobile as indicated by digital_1? I am tempted to try it also and wanted to know your results...thanks!
I'm going to wait until the formal release from T-Mobile, just too afraid I won't be able to upgrade to it if I try the beta above.

Like digital_1 stated its a pain to downgrade the radio stack so be absolutely sure you what to do it and will be happy with the results.
What I would do first is find somebody in my area that has already
done the upgrade and see what their reception / performance is like.
In most case the reception/performance should be better.
As for me I found the the AT&T radio stack was much better in my area (Las Vegas, NV) than the T-Mobile stack and is my radio stack of choice with that said I'll be staying with it no matter whats to come. No more radio stack upgrades for me.
So if you upgrade to 6.24 and it works good in your area stay with it no matter what!
Warning the signal meter is known to show lower signal strength but actually the reception / performance is better than what is being shown.
Anyhow once you have the needed files follow the below to upgrade:
Copy RSUpgrade.exe, RSUpgrade.cp64
,monitor_ul_bs.map and monitor_ul_bs.m0 to your devices windows root folder then from Pocket File Explore double tap RSUpgrade.exe and this will start the radio upgrade.

You are suggesting that I have 4.00.10 ENG T-Mobile US on before I upgrade to 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US, right? I currently have 4.00.11 ENG WM2003 on my t-mobile device.
Just making sure! Thanks!

obelcher-
I don't want to give the wrong impression- I've never ran this update nor probably will I because I don't want to mess up my radio stack. Remember- that this .EXE will upgrade your radio stack, and as Qman pointed out in another thread, it is difficult if not impossible to downgrade the stack if it doesn't work out. Make sure you read all the posts in this thread so that you are well educated on the risks/advantages. That being said...
I would reflash the phone back to the latest official T-Mobile release before running the update. 4.00.11ENG isn't an official T-Mobile release- it's beta. I think the last official version (at least for me in US) was 3.08 (or 3.14.40 if you ran the update from T-Mobile).
I dunno why people keep saying it is near impossible to downgrade your radio stack. It is neither impossible nor hard at all.
You just need to copy 4 files to your windows folder on your XDA and run the upgrade EXE file. It does it's thing and you do a hard reset and you're done.
Okay I hope you are right and I can revert to 6.18 because I just upgraded to 6.24.. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Don't do it!
Radio stack 6.18 is not a separate upgrade like 6.24 is, 6.18 is included in the ROM update. You'll be sorry if you do!

Have you actually tried this before? Going from 6.24 back to 6.18?
I am under the understanding that the radio upgrade is a forward-only process- meaning that it will check to make sure that an earlier version of the RSU isn't overwriting a more current version. Based on reading posts here, it has nothing to do with version numbers but something internally coded.
Regarding the free XDA- well cruisin-thru was right. The thread is marked "FREE XDA". They are offering a free XDA to someone who can downgrade a radio stack. None have claimed the XDA to date!
Well I tried the 6.24 radio stack and ended up going back to AT&T's A20 stack.
Had no problem at all, just put the 4 files people say in these forums into the windows folder of the XDA and run the EXE file. a few minutes later it is done, and you do a hard reset and everything is fine.
6.24 Radio Stack
Can someone tell me where I can get just the 6.24 radio stack without the 4.00.16 ROM?
I've been running 6.24 since yesterday and I the thing I like the best is the ability for the GPRS to stay on while the PDA is off (i.e. display blank). This allows me to wireless activesync and download my IMAP accounts in the background without me having to turn on the unit.. Only had a few wierd issue yesterday where SMS messages came in with the last half of the messages scrambled...
I found the answer to my questions...thanks anyway. The answer (thanks to mdavidm):
"The latest, unless I missed something, is 6.24.00, and is available as part of the TMo 4.00.10 ROM update at
http://www.romanweb.com/yorch/official-tmo2003.rar which includes the 6.24 radio and 4.00.10. To install, REMOVE YOUR XDA FROM THE CRADLE. Unzip the file, and then cancel out. It creates a directory called RUU under Program Files. Place your xda back on the cradle and copy the two files entitled monitor_ul_bs and the two files entitled RSUpgrade from the RUU\English directory to the Windows directory on your xda. Then execute the RSUpgrade executable file on the xda. This will install the 6.24 radio. Once complete, a hard reset might be required, but normally that is not necessary.

I will say this is absolutely the best Radio Stack I've had! No problems except if I have my earphone plugged in and I'm using my wireless car radio transmitter for mp3s plugged in. It seems to think it is to engage the speakerphone, but it is also trying to use the hands free microphone.... resulting in you need to unplug the hands free and the transmitter plug. Than again it could be i designed the transmitter and plug wrong in some way...
Anyway, I didn't need to do a hard resit, but a soft one was needed.

What ROM are you currently running!
I ask this because the 6.18 radio stack is part of the current T-Mobile 2002 ROM which can be found here:
T-Mobile Current ROM Update:

Is Radio Stack 6.24 compatible with the current release of 2002 for T-Mobile? If so where can one find it and information on installing it? I'm interested in getting the "always on" capability and tired of waiting for T-Mobile to provide the 2003 upgrade
Yes...
I would also really like to have a radio upgrade for my QTEK 1010 something along the line og 4.10 or 4.20 not 4.21.
Please help me.
I can't wait.

Stack 6.24 is compatible but you won't get the "always on" capability until

Radio Stack Upgrade for Tmobile PPC phone
Hey Qman can you send me a copy of the radio stack upgrade as well. I am in the process of installing testing some of the beta builds of tmobile 2003 on my device and want to get a better working radio stack than I have, I have a generic one that is not working too well.

Rumors
I've heard a lot of people hosing their radio with the 6.24 update. I have 6.18 now. Is there a way I can back up my radio stack (using serial cable), go up to 6.24, and still feel secure with the knowledge I can go down to 6.18 again?
Thanks.
Radio Stack Upgrade, no problems
I just upgraded recently to the tmob 6.24 without any problems. Found the instructions for copying the four files directly onto the pocket pc and installing from there.
I've also downgraded that same way, there's absolutely no magic, apps, SD card crap, or anything required.
Both stacks worked without any trouble, the .24 having always-on and much much better luck getting a decent Internet connection speed.
Just my two cents. Those people that are so worried about downgrading and all these stories about the radio being hosed, I have no idea... copying those files right onto the pda always worked for me.
You downgraded from 6.24 to what 6.18?
If so send me a copy of the four needed files to downgrade back to 6.18, for my records. Because as far as I know/seen radio stack v6.18 was built-in the latest T-Mobile Pocket PC 2002 ROM update, hence no files!
But if you got them please send me a copy!

hello, I got it from http://www.yorch.net/ but I use an US version of XDA, for me it's hard to say whether it suits Asian hardware version, my rough guess is that Radio Stack version shall be different .... unfrtunately I have never came across the Asian hardware version

Tks Monika,
But I see that you are using WM2003 T-mobile ROM 4.00.21.
From Yorch, 4.00.21 is only nbf file which is not nb1 so that I can't use the SD method for upgrading.
Any hint?

few questions
I have US tmobile Pocket PC Phone so it is type B so I flashed with no problem with 4.01.00 (RUUv2.04b_CEv4.01.00wwe_VS_Ozone_Test_(Integrate_Radio_6.24.01).exe) so I think that this soft will work fine with Monika's XDA if it is American....
Monika your XDA is from AT&T ? or TMobile ?
Is it ok to use it with European PW10A1 ?
gaz do you have exactly same ROM as I have ? (check my signature)
and this problem with band tab is only one ?
do you see TMobile logo when U do a soft reset?
Anybody use this soft ver. in Europe?
i use 4.01.00 with asian radio stack 4.21.01 with no problem
i used flash method when upgrading the rom
i unzip the exe file, took the .nbf file and write it to my sd card using OSImageTool and boot my xda with the SD card... 5 minutes later my XDA is running WM2003 with the latest ROM version
for asian users, do not open the band tab... if you do that, you have to go to bootloader and choose band 900/1800 to make your xda work again

Use XDArit.exe insted of the OSImageTool and you can write it to an SD card. www.yorch.net has 2 versions. if the newer one doesn't work, try the older one. I also found I have to unplug my cradle from my computer to get XDArit to work properly.

ok fellas ...

rom date: 5/15/03
radio version : 4.17
to the upgrade :
rom version: 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US
rom date: 7/10/03
radio version : 4.17.00
courtesy of www.yorch.net
however the phone still can not pick up a signal ..
with upgrade i have not been able to switch GSM band from 900/1800 to 900 or 1900 successfully through the wallaby bootloader (after changes are made i can not get out of bootloader without doing a hard reset) also note the xda developers band switch tool is also present but reads error
also note
before the upgrade
my device model no. PW10A1
after upgrade
my device model no. PW10B1
not sure if im getting any closer to the solution but im still happy at this point i havent burned up the unit ...
perhaps it is still an issue of the radio version 4.17.00 (which is the only thing i havent fooled with yet)
any thoughts on trying the radio upgrades from www.yorch.net (under upgrades) ??
if this doesnt kill me it will surely make me stronger ... i will throw a party with beer for everyone if we can get this turkey running !!

TMO 4.10.00, RS 6.24.01
I upgraded my XDA I with this .exe file and everything went perfect. Search this forum on RUU or 4.10.00 and you should find the link to the file (~18M). TMO is pretty much locked on ROM4.10.00, Radio 6.24.01 still needs some work, still having problems only with NorTel Networks equipment. Hope this helps you.

Your "mission"
Your mission should be to practise with the search buttom associated with the Upgrading It forum, at top of page next to FAQ button, to find what you're looking for!

thanks a bunch qman ...
the ftp download was a success
i am now running ..
rom : 4.01.00 eng
rom date : 10/27/03
radio version : 6.24.01
still no luck with it picking up a signal for the phone ... i have removed the sim ... and even switched between 900 and 1900 and still cant get a signal ...
any ideas? anyone ... please :?
It might be your SIM card so try it in another phone and see if it works.
If so try upgrading to the AT&T Radio stack its what I use.
HTH
i really cant believe it is the sim as it works fine in my other phone .. so i tried to do the radio uprade ...
from 6.24.01
to a.20.10
i was a bit skeptical as it is an at&t stack and i am using t mobile usa ..
dloaded it from yorch ... opened it in the windows directory of the xda as they say ... and it says something like upgrade failed.. press ok to restart
:?
says to be sure the path is correct and none of the files are missing ... perhaps there is something i am missing ...
also wondering how dangerous this radio upgrade is ... been reading some horror stories about others that have ruined their devices trying the upgrades .. but after all this is the 3rd rom ive installed so i figured what could a radio upgrade hurt ... anyways .. still no luck ..

Confirming you copied all of the below files to your Windows root folder
RSUpgrade.exe
RSUpgrade.cp64
monitor_ul_bs.map
monitor_ul_bs.m0
and the upgrade still failed with a be sure path is correct and none of the files are missing? BTW your old radio stack is still in tact since it failed in
this way. Just remove any leftover upgrade links from your Startup folder.
How dangerous is upgrading the radio stack you ask? Its the most dangerous upgrade you can do in my book and should be only do as a last resort in getting your phone to work.
Also I can understand why you're skeptical as to it being an AT&T radio stack, most are but its the most powerful radio stack to date in my book and I've used them all (US that is). Your device must really be in bad shape to knock it down!
BTW what part of the US are you located?

yes the above files were all copied to the windows folder of the xda .. not too sure about what u mean by root folder ... but they were opened within the windows folder ... :?
i did remove the files after it failed .. perhaps i should just be happy the pda works and it powers on ...
anyways im here on the east coast (nyc) .. lemme know if anyone comes up with anything else ... also wondering ... has anyone tried the upgrade from the siemens web site ?? i think it is something like A.20.17 .. im assuming it is a radio upgrade as well ?
question re. radio upgrades ..
is performing the upgrade by opening the exe file on the device standing alone the risky part? :? since upgrading the rom also has the radio upgrade within it and it is done while connected to the pc on the cradle with activsync perhaps that makes it safer ... ??

The A.20.17 upgrade contains both ROM and radio stack upgrade. The ROM is AT&T's most current Pocket PC 2002 update.
As far as the radio stack failure goes it can happen either way but its best not to have your device connected to the PC while doing it though!

Hey guys ...
The point is what is the actual type of the device A or B. Forget what's is shown in the device info as it can ve changed buy a wrong ROM or RSU upgrade. Refer to the device sticker in the device back side. If the device is A type then it's only 900 or 900/1800 type ... don't ever try to switch to any 1900 option as it may ruin the Radio part. If it's B then you can select the 1900 if your network supports this band. Don't forget also to switch it in the phone settings since now you have 4.01.00.
As Peter Poelman said, try to select the right band from the bootloader and soft reset more than once. Usually it takes many trials.
Good luck ...
