How to cook different progs into the rom - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Is there a (easy) way to add other programs to the ROM?
For instance, I'd like to put Citrix ICA Client into the rom, or eventualli TomTom GPS driver...

java VM cab file ?

does anybody have the cab file which include the java in the o2 rom for xda2 ?
because my qtek2020 rom dont have it and i would like to have java support on my device
I wouldn;t waste your time, the JVM is purely for MIDlets, which are generally rubbish.
well i got some old java applications that i would like to mess with if i can get them to run on a xda2

SSH,IRC,IM cleints & Linux & connectivity/syncing to

Hi Guys,
Some simple Questions that I cant seem to find much of a conclusive answer to for most.
Looking at purchasing the Orange version of the Himalaya/XDAii (SPV M1000) VERY shortly, but wondered if you guys (whom seem to know everything about these toys) could answer me some quick questions:
All software ideally would be opensource & and under FreeBSD or GPL2.
1. SSH Client - are there any available that support passphrases etc (recomendations)?
2. IRC Client - is there any (recomendations)?
3. IM Clients (other than M$'s) (recomendations) - looking for minimal functionality?
4. Does PPC2003 have a task switcher, or do you have to close, and reopen things?
5. Iv'e seen some posts here that talk about Linux connectivity, how good is it, and what exactly can be synced, and to what?
6. Can any of the syncing of contacts/mail etc be done to NON M$ apps on the PC with/without 3rdparty apps? Ideally anyone know of any apps to sync with Mozilla (under XP).
7. I assume email is regular pop/smtp/imap so one can whack in custom servers/details etc (ala non hotSPAMrelay.com stuff)? Or is there an alternative to M$LookOut thats known to work with mutiple accounts on the XDAii?
8. What level of Java is supported on these little things? e.g. will they run MindTerm SSH clients?
9. Anyone run this with sync/connection to WinXP running in a VM under Linux?
10. Is there a cygwin availble for the PPC2003 OS, and is it anygood? (Iv'e heard rumours of a M$ written version)
11. Can the Himalayer be used as a webcam via Bluetooth/GPRS? Im thinking 'not of me' webcam, being the camera is on the back
I was very badly dissapointed by the obscure and totally lacking information on M$ site - though it's probably there, just impossible to find like most other things.
Many Thanks Guys!
Re: SSH,IRC,IM cleints & Linux & connectivity/syncin
1. SSH Client
Avaible some clients. I think there are a PuTTY port too. I think without a keyboard, console window is unuseable.
2. IRC Client - is there any
I never use, search google.
3. IM Clients (other than M$'s) (recomendations) - looking for minimal functionality?
There is MSN built in, and does not working, because it need to upgrade There are an official ICQ program ww.icq.com.
This is nice:
http://www.movsoftware.com/products/imov/imov.htm
(AOL, ICQ, MSN)
4. Does PPC2003 have a task switcher, or do you have to close, and reopen things?
There is a very basic taskmanager-like memory manager utility built in. There is some utility program, they make a taskbar like desktop computers, and there is some real taskmanager and process wiever program. Search PHM taskmanager on the net.
To test, how the PocketPC working, download the free MS development SDK. It contains an emulator.
5. Iv'e seen some posts here that talk about Linux connectivity, how good is it, and what exactly can be synced, and to what?
I tested linux on ipaq 3630. Its good, but syncing with linux or windows is not working at this time. (only contacts as I remember)
http://www.handhelds.org
There is screenshots too, but it not work on XDA I think.
6. Can any of the syncing of contacts/mail etc be done to NON M$ apps on the PC with/without 3rdparty apps? Ideally anyone know of any apps to sync with Mozilla (under XP).
As I heard, you can synchronize with BAT.
7. I assume email is regular pop/smtp/imap so one can whack in custom servers/details etc (ala non hotSPAMrelay.com stuff)? Or is there an alternative to M$LookOut thats known to work with mutiple accounts on the XDAii?
I don't understand the question well because of my wrong english.
You can setup different accounts, and there is many 3th party e-mail clients. A free and good one: nPOP
8. What level of Java is supported on these little things? e.g. will they run MindTerm SSH clients?
There is several (mor than 10) different JAVA stuff for pocket pc. Search it on this forum! I have never tried java.
9. Anyone run this with sync/connection to WinXP running in a VM under Linux?
I don't know. The XP under the VM can see USB?
10. Is there a cygwin availble for the PPC2003 OS, and is it anygood? (Iv'e heard rumours of a M$ written version)
Good idea What do you want with your pocket pc? )
11. Can the Himalayer be used as a webcam via Bluetooth/GPRS? Im thinking 'not of me' webcam, being the camera is on the back
dont know
If you have more questions, write it. I will answer what I can.

WM5

I tried Magneto on my Himalaya, but I had lot of problems(see 'Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking'). Is it there same problems also for Typhoon? Meaned the biggest problems such as unability to connect via ActiveSync, unability to accept many applications from 2003SE,etc. Someony who has it already tried, please write here your opinions and experiences. Thanx.
On Typhoon, Activesync works perfectly, you can't unlock it, neither for applications, nor to use another sim card, you can't use USSD... Don't load it for the now and wait for the final version.

+1 you are right.. it is so early for WM2005. if you load microsoft can test WM 2005 on your phone and you will be cavy...
Will there ever be a stable WM5 for the typhoon?

It can be application unlocked very easily with a simple registry change.
I dont see the problems eveyone is having with the typhoon with wm 5, its very stable I dont get any crashes or lockups any more. Tom tom 5 even works relaibly. The only downfall is the camera, which im sure there will be a fix.
?
I am still interesting about the applications. WM5 needs applications designed especially for this OS or accepts also the apps, which are running also on WM2003(se)? My Himalaya, while running on Magneto, wants not accept lot of the software that I am using with WM2003se normally...
I've been running WM5 on Typhoon for 1 week.
It's awesome. (totally happy, no issues with anything)
The WM5 GUI look & feel is much better for everythying
It seems faster
I really enjoy having photo/ring-tone based contacts built in.
radio seems to aquire quicker
Active Sync over GPRS and IMAP mail is MUCH faster!
I also recommend Pocket Controller Professional. You can control any pocket pc or smartphone from your computer! (and sync files, etc etc) It comes with “skins” so it looks like your whole phone is up on the screen. (very nice to "type" in stuff now and then too) Works great on the Typhoon with WM5 so far.
The Tornado should be interesting in Oct. (similar size + WiFi + EDGE)
s4czech or anyone else, could you please indicate me a link where to find a complete explanation on how to upgrade to WM5?
I already downloaded the upgrade, but as I donno the procedure all I get is error' messages that this or that is missing... Thanks!

I am using WM 5 on my C500 (Typhoon). It runs very well, stable and fast. I have installed the following Software (tested and running). Except Power Task, they are all WM2K3 Apps
- CityTime Alarms
- Developerone Power Tasks (WM5 Version)
- Fizz Traveller 2
- Fizz Monitor
- TCPMP
- WordPad
- Blackjack
- Facade from SBSH (new)
- Opera for Mobile (new)
- Papyrus from SBSH (new)
- GPRS Traffic Counter (new)
And that's basically all I need
Cheers

[Q] Windows Live cannot connect on cooked ROM

Hi,
I am learning to cook for legacy device HTC Prophet. I want to have my own base ROM, so I started with official WM 6.1 ROM from Kaiser (19214) and Elfin (19772). The OEM/Drivers was derived from the last official WM5 AKU 2.2 from Qtek S200.
Thanks to the wonderful community here, I was able to successfully port the XIP over and get my 1st booter. Everything seemed to work OK, bluetooth, GSM data/phone, Wifi, IR etc.
The only issue I have is Windows Live won't connect. I tried other SW, and they were OK with both EDGE data and Wifi (IE, SJPhone, OperaMini native, Jbed with OperaMini J2ME, PocketOutlook with Yahoo! emails etc.)
This happens with both donor ROMs, and it happens with both the Windows Live comes with the donor ROMs, or the CAB I downloaded from MS website. (to rule out RGU related porting issue.) Marketplace for WM6.1 won't connect, too.
I had tried searching for solution and there seemed to be similiar issue, but I wasn't able to get a solid solution.
I use BuildOS/PKGTool-based toolchain in my own commandline-based kitchen.

[HELP] OperaMini 6.5 don't function on HD2

Hello my friends,
Like you know, Opera Mini6.5 has been released a few day :
http://www.operamini.com/mobile/download/versions/
This version use Java bu, with these, we can having a new Browser that works with the new web stadard 'css3, html5,etc....)
I have tried to install and run on my HD2 with Java FX, and i have an error (cannot etablish Internet connection)
A friend, wh have a TG01 can run this browser with JavafX whitout probleme.
I have tried on Several rom, like Dutty, Ultrashot, and same problem.
Anyone have tried ?
Thanks a lot,
Best regards,
Nixeus
Would this not have to go to the HD2 forum and discuss there about JVM that may work on the HD2? Java FX is just one from Oracle - is there no other JVM that was delivered with the HD2 (usually it was the Esmertec JBed)?
Mind that some JVM do not utilize the Active Sync Connection of the device. They connect via radio access only - so if your device is connected to AS the access will not work.
First, some other WM6/6.x phone have the same problem.
Secondly, i have tested with Esmertec Jbed, and i have an exception at launch
Opera mini 6.5 (just installed) works for me on a Tornado with JBed 20080813.2.1 (aka JBed Rose as it came from the S740).
Usually nobody cares about JVM on WM anymore (who ever did anyway?).
Did any older version of Opera Mini work on that setup?
Does any other application with network access work on that setup?
The basic problem here is to make the JVM work right on the device - there is nothing HW or ROM (so XIP, OEM or SYS) related.
works fine on my blackstone with Sun Java FX.
you just need to set up correctly the internet connection on java before launching
Works fine on my HTC Diamond US with Esmertec JBed 20090416.5.1.
