I would like to create a german version of this ROM for the P3600.
Is there any place where one might download an "intact" version which works correctly with bepes tools? I haven't yet found anything publicly accessible which is newer than the asian dopod-Rom from five months ago.
From my personal experience, 18548 seems to be very stable. I have invested a lot of work into the localization of the MUI, but can only dump/recompile it as a quick'n dirty hack, as all the versions which I found had modified DSM-files and did not work with package tools.

My friend has the Mogul and on PPCgeeks.com he installed buildos which is a totally customizable rom that allows you to choose what you want on it upon installation. I and many others I'm sure would love to have something similar. Any info on this would be great!!!!

that's what runs inside of the simple wm6.1 kitchen I posted. All you need to do is change OS files (SYS Folder and XIP) from my old clean developer edition to newer and more stable ones made by -MyHTC-, Erofich, etc.
I also recommend learning about UC (User Customization) 2.0. Search for it on xda. Really useful for on-the-fly type customization, but the ROM image needs to be compatible.
Still trying to find some time to develop my WPF kitchen...thinking about multi-device support...

So forgive me for my ignorance, but if I'm already running on My-HTC rom will your kitchen work. And I did notice the kitchen before, but I took a look at it and felt I was getting in a little over my head. I have flashed my phone a few times and tweeked it out a lil, but by all means, I am still fairly new here. So I'm gonna do some homework myself based on ur feedback, but thanks again and we all look forward to seeing more of your work
1. This is my first custom ROM ever.
2. Adapted for the 91x from same for 61x by keyx (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496283)
3. Major props to fellow Canadian keyx for major instruction and ongoing guidance. Indirect props to all his sources at pdaclan.com and xda-devs.
Done:
1. Dumped IMGFS from HP 910c Factory ROM update (using keyx kitchen).
2. Dumped XIP directly from device.
3. Ported keyx 21198 XIP to 91x using XIPKitchen (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443383)
4. Used OEM from 910c factory ROM (with Google Search, Google Maps and VoiceCommander removed)
5. Used SYS from keyx 21198 (except phone.dll and ril.dll from HP 910c factory and 61x-specific modules taken out)
6. Manual XIP ported by keyx
7. Functional ROM kitchen tools in place - tested by successfully building customized WM6.1 ROM
Current status:
- device makes it to OS boot screen (not the first "HP" boot screen but the next one), beeps once and just hangs... never goes any further
- WiFi and phone lights operational, suggesting successful XIP porting?
- can't isolate source problem between OEM, SYS or XIP
This will be based off of keyx's 03-27-09 beta 2.2 build. Once a reliable method is in place, we 910/912/914 owners should be able to benefit from his updates to the 610/612/614.
Please be patient; will post here as soon as its done.

Have been building and flashing many test ROMs for days now... none are making it past the first screen.
We may be better off porting from an entirely new source; I suspect whatever causes the 61x keyx first-boot problem (where users wait for second beep and then must reset frozen device) has just turned into a full-blown show stopper.

Yeah I'll give that a shot.
1. Any idea what is causing the first boot issue in your 61x ROM?
2. How exactly did you get your flash.dio file below 80 MB? Mine is 80 MB, and the 20142 for ipaq612 custom ROM I just downloaded is also 80 MB.
1. I have no idea...i will try to do a port from 6.1 to 6.5 when i done exam to see what process involvoed for cross version port
2. I am using pdalcan's rom as template.rom and it is smaller,i think it has to relate to some hex edit to change the mbr

Well, I just successfully ported a WM6.1 21042 ROM for the ipaq 910c. XIPKitchen worked fine; all that is missing is WiFi (and I'll probably just have to stick the appropriate wrlsmgr.exe back in for that to work). IE6 is kind of a nice improvement, as is the removal of VoiceCommander, GSearch and GMaps.
Will tweak a bit and then post.

We still need to wait for 6.5, he's working on it, but having an issue loading the ported ROM, gets stuck in first screen...Hopefully he releases the 6.1 cust ROM soon!

Don't need beta testers, thanks - anything that seems to work on my end will be released.
As it stands, the WM6.5 ROM is stalled; I'll keep fidling with it, but we may have to just wait for a new build to be released before it is worth much more time investment.
The WM6.1 build 21042 is a nice update because it contains IE6 Mobile. I've got a test ROM cooked but it at least major two bugs, detailed in next post.
Of course it is rather easy to customize the factory build (number 19xxx) without any XIP porting - I can post a release that has Google Maps, Google Search and VoiceCommander removed, and a few odds and ends added. But other than that there are very few benefits.
If people want to help out, there are two things they can do:
- hunt down (on xda-devs and PPCgeeks discussion threads) new sources of WM6.5 ROMS for me to use for porting
- try to find a device ROM from which we can extract a compatible, yet better, rilgsm.dll ...the Ipaq 61x and 91x has a well-known problem where the GSM radio doesn't expose the Cell Tower ID to the OS (limiting the "My Location" feature in Google Maps to use the standard GPS only without cell tower triangulation and preventing the useful operation of other apps like Navizon). I am convinced that this problem stems to the rilgsm.dll file in which HP has not implemented this feature (but HTC certainly has).
pdadb.net says that the 91x and the 61x are both manufactured by Inventec and use a Qualcomm MSM6280 (2x QDSP4000) phone controller. If somebody can find a device ROM or just the rilgsm.dll from another phone that uses the same cell radio hardware, we should try cooking that file into our ROMs and see if it enables the desired functionality.
Getting the CNAP feature (a.k.a. Rogers Name Display) would be a bonus as well, but it looks like the Rogers HTC phones do not use the same radio (i.e. Touch Diamond and TyTN use "Qualcomm MSM7201A (QDSP4000, QDSP5000)").

Here are the bugs in my 21042 ROM so far:
BUG 1: WiFi disappears
This is weird - the blue WiFi light begins blinking during first boot and continues through the Welcome tutorial. Then once I reach the first screen, it goes out and the device behaves as though it doesn't have built-in WiFi. The Wireless Manager only shows "Bluetooth" and "Phone" options. Strange, because the SDIO wifi driver is definitely in the OS (it comes up as a network device under "Connections") but there's no interface to enable it.
BUG 2: Storage Card isn't recognized
Simply, whenever I put in a microSD card, the device does nothing. File Explorer shows no Storage Card. Memory CPL shows no Storage Card. Just good old useless iPaq File Store and Bluetooth Neighbourhood
I suspect either I've ported the XIP wrong or I've got some lack of reg entries coming from the new base SYS. But these are show-stoppers for me so I'm inclined not to post until I can at least fix one of them. Will learn to manually port the XIP and see if that helps.

Have you tried using this rom with the mods you mentioned but trying to add manila 2d?? That would be a really nice add-on.

Got the WiFi and Storage Card stuff working in build 21042 by manually porting the XIP (something I've wimped out on until now). Here's the release.
Moving on to another stab at porting keyx's WM6.5!

I just got a working WM6.5 21198 build for the 91x from keyx - just as I was figuring out the details of my own port of the same (keeping Windows Live modules out of SYS keeps the total modules low enough for G'Reloc to run without integer overflow; on the other hand that might not have been my problem).
I'm merging a dump of keyx's working ROM with my own stuff (some OEM customizations and a few extra SYS packages) to see how that works. But we've at least got something bootable; expect a release today or tomorrow.

i just tried this. it works great!! thank you. but can you make the X close button even bigger. the problem with the 910c is that the screen is not flused against the corner so it's difficult to hit that buttom sometimes. just nit picking

Many thanks for the WM6.5 ROM you worked on. My 910c has been sitting on my desk for several months due to the lack of interest or any ROM updates from HP. (Great little phone with problems HP still has not fixed (datacard issues and POOR battery life). Your update has given me new reasons to begin using the device again. No crashes and no big problems discovered. Again, good work. Only noticed a couple of cosmetic things which are very minior and a lot of "task manager" icons in different folders. The one thing is did do was map "task manager" to the "voice commander" button on the side of the phone. Since this beast is known to suck up juice it's just a way to stay on top of things. Right now just using it on GSM network setting and getting decent battery life. Will start to see what happens when I set it to high-speed network. But again, no problems what-so-ever with your ROM. (Using 910c as limited use phone and heavy Exchange 2007)
As reg66 said the other day we are a few people cooking ROMs for the Polaris but there is not such a chef corner in the polaris forum. So I propose this thread to exchange techniques, tools, etc.

Kitchens available are basically three: Ervius Visual Kitchen, Ondraster kitchen (two versions: old and new UI) and traditional kitchens (simply cmd scripts and exe tools, maybe someone wants to share a polaris non visual kitchen). Most of the kitchens come with mega packages, some others come naked or with leo packages. Choose the one that best suits you.

TomAngel Ondraster's Kitchen wm6.5 builds 23088, 23518, 28008 and 28205 Includes both 6.1 and 6.5 kernel and is Multilanguage (check the thread also to learn how to use the wm6.5 kernel and seems to be working. It works nicely in my ROMs that seem to work better (as if it had a higher PP). There is not consensus on the performance improvement however. The main advantage is to avoid recmoding, since performance it is not so much affected and depends more on drivers. I personally believe recmodded apps open slower but there is no big science behind this thought. Check TomAngel's post for details).

Cooking takes lots of time. Be sure you backup your kitchen whenever you have consolidated a bunch of improvements. Sometimes files may get corrupted or if you change many things at a time, it may be difficult to go back to previous situation and also to fix the errors. Therefore, even if it is a pain, I recommned to zip the whole kitchen from time to time.
Another good practice is to keep a second folder with your kitchen tools, in case you have to restore the whole kitchen from scratch.

You are an end user? Which rom is the best? This depends on your needs. There is some posts about user experiences in this thread and of course on the ROM threads themselves. My advice is to try a few ones, several days each. Then you will have no doubt and that won't kill your device (I did not dare at the beginning but I have flashed my device ... quite a few times...)
You are a cooker and want to be? Do not invent the wheel. Liason with the cooker that is working in the line you like and ask him what you want to do and what is the best starting point. You will be surprised how helpful people can be.

PPCKitchen sources can not be used directly. A script is needed to change fileattributes automatically, since ppckitchen handles files in a different way.
Do not overload your kitchen with lots of releases since the cooking time grows a lot.
SYS Fixes (sticky in chef central)
We use wm6.1 kernel which means it has a limit on the number of modules it can cope with. If you do not get a bootable Rom then recmod some more modules. No consensus on which ones, how many or in which slot. As pcarvalho says, it does not matter if it does the job.
How to update your kitchen to the latest builds?
Does your kitchen suffer S.O.D.? My experience is that is not a kitchen or sys problem, it has to do with oem/ext htc packages (specially htc notifications and volume control) or start menu cooking. However, other people are reporting other reasons such as the tools used to cook or corrupted modules.
Sys description
Best explanation I can give is:
COM1- Builds 217**:
COM2 - Builds 218**: GUI is 1st stage of finger friendly features implemented. This is the only official WM6.5 released to public. All other COM* Builds are leaked test builds (not even classified as alpha or beta). In this range, the GUI introduces softer corners to various dialogs, the new start menu (Very early builds had a honeycomb theme but although the hexagons have been removed, the icon alignments remain), and the taskbar and menubar have been slightly modified to allow for further skinning.
COM3 - Builds 230**: GUI from 23001 to 23021 looks the same as COM2. 23022+ introduced the new shorter/expanding taskbar and finger friendly text-based buttons on taller bottom menubar and ever since its been called wm6.5.1 rather than 6.5..
23047+ introduced icon-based buttons.. New checkboxes and scroll bars and recently (from 23069 i think) a magnifier in the taskbar are amongst the newer gui elements introduced in the latest builds..
At some point (im not sure when, kinetic scrolling was introduced..
It appears that COM4 elements are being introduced into this branch such as the new contact application, a slightly modified sms application, and possibly a slightly modified calender application..
COM4 - Builds 234**: Seems to have stopped at 23420. The newer contact application and possibly the modified sms and calender applications were first introduced in this branch but have since been incoorperated into latest builds of COM3
COM5 - Builds 235**: At the moment little is known of this branch. 23502 is the first build leaked that Im aware of. It seems to have been compiled at about the same time as 23060 but with superior stability, speed, memory management, Newer COM3 builds 23071 and above have been reported to be superior in terms of stability and speed. However the latest COM5 23506 compared to COM3 23088 (build date is identical) seem equally fast and stable. COM5 builds have the new Contact app and Magnifier, as in latest COM3 Builds, but lack kinetic scrolling.
Apparently, the new internet explorer has been modified as well (but Bikertibi Builds have the old internet explorer from wm6.1 because new one does not handle well on our device)

Here I reserve a space to post apps that are optimized for SD install.
There are three ways of doing it:
1. Use mortscript to install on the SD Card. Sashimi great tool does so. In the mortscript source compendium you can also find a script that does it more manually (may fail on some devices/cabs). I never have time to "steal" the code from sashimi's. It is as simple as leaving the cab file in a certain folder. the drawback is sashimi's is kinda slow to launch because it does a LOT of things. btw, great tool to backup emails, wifi and so on.
2. Use sktools: it lets you move files (including dll) to the sd card and is able to create a cab version that saves the installation configuration (sd installation, registry changes, dll moved, etc). Very easy but cabs created can not be opened by all other cab editing apps.
3. Use Wince cab manager. It is more tedious.

There are several ways to customize the ROM:
1- RunCC: nice looking, can not be interrupted (if so is like a hard reset). Sometimes is tricky while cooking.
2- XDA_UC: mortscript based, has full support for tradicional UC config files (no need to install SDconfig). Can run in combination with RunCC or standalone. Has lots of functionalities for the cooker to create shortcuts, load regkeys, etc. but also for the ROM user (install cabs, xml or reg files, etc while you are using the ppc).
3- SDConfig: You can change bmp displayed as the customization takes place. Can be aborted.
I use 1+2 combined. I basically use XDA_UC to do the customization and control the Radio after first boot and I use RunCC to ensure the customization is not aborted.

In this second post I will try to gather direct questions on how to do something specific. It can not be something like how do I install wm6.5 on my wm6,1 device or how can I cook a ROM. Answers should not be I have read that or that but rather I do it this way and it works. Let me put some examples:
- How can I make top bar / softkeybar transparent with wm6.5 (I am not talking about a top bar simulating the wallpaper, but a transparent one)
- How can I sync time automatically first time radio is connected without wifi or activesync? There are many apps out there that sync time through a data connection but can it be done automatically with cell tower information or gps?
- I have to blips (short sounds) when the welcome screen pops up. How can I avoid the second blip?
- How you cook the connectionsetup ? can the files be in sd card and tell connectionsetup with the corresponding reg key?
- Where and how are bt profiles stored?
- Can I use roms from other devices? and other devices can use polaris roms?
- How can I associate apps with file explorer and resco explorer (eg. txt file with notepad, mscr with notepad, etc).
- How can I bachup and restore my bt pairings (with xml or reg)
- Which splash tool to use so I do not get a black band in the bottom, where the red letters appear?

Glad you like the idea. Can you elaborate a little more? what's the difference with the other Duron23 thread you mentioned another day? How do you handle the sources taken from one or the other page? If we document a little we may see more pleople daring to try...

Alex, try the link with the batch recmoder in post 1. It worked at first try for me. You simply define the absolute path,name and ext of the files to recmod in the txt file and drop the file over the batchrecmoder.exe and it does the job (windows vista here)

edit: have anyone working bluetooth sap profile files for eg. VW (Volkswagen) Premium Bluetooth...a user from my german rom ask for that...??
My bluetooh works great with bt headset (handsfree) but this is a special option for eg. phonebook displays in the car

Where are those files suposed to be so I can check? I am not familiar since I have been using for a long time Jetware BT extension and it works great with my Parrot. It is great if you have thousands of records and many categories since you can tell which categories to sync so it does not take a long time. I always include it in my roms and its open code.

I checked your german's rom posts. In case it helps, I have BTBPP, BTSAP and BTFTP as EXT modules and they seem to work. However I have them disabled since my BT connects to the carkit without any popus (only 1st time when building the association). In bt profiles (settings) I jave a2dp, hsp, hpf 1.5 (hands free profile), pan, hid, opp, bpp, avrcp, pbab (phonebool access profile), spp, sdap profiles.

Alexander, here are the ext bt modules. As I said I currently have them disable. Regarding the profiles, I would be happy to share them but do not know how they are stored (files, reg file, xml file?). If you know how to locate and share let me now.

ill start with the last one for now...answer: hack the exe (or just "steal" it from my rom - easier this way )...mine has white letters and dark wall...
meanwhile here is another (on mine it's okay btw): why do most cooked roms fail/stop to play music when device screen is turned off? its not wm6.5 related that much i know, but i dont know what you lot did to break this feature...

I'm making a rom for my HTC Touch2/mega. My currently installed rom is stock rom. Which is comes with my phone and it has no official version of it here. It's in Turkish language and 6,5 but I want to make it 6.5.5 So I'm trying to use this:

And my rom is customized for an operator. So I want to build it in Turkish language. I have the mui's but I'm not sure they will work on 6.5.5 and I wan't to make it multilanguge. Because as default it's asking to me which language I wan't to use. I wan't to add this option too.
But if I try to build a new rom based on my current rom the operator customizations is continues? Like I can't use hdspa/3g with another operator (phone keeps crashing).

You touched several different problems.
Unfortunately each 6.5.x build will demand reviewing of most of the mui files. I know by myself. I used to build PLK versions of Jackos' ROMs and he has 2 series of ROMs (with 6.5 and 6.5.3 builds).
So you have to choose a build basing on information about it's stability/reliability, not ability to work with Turkish .muis. Either way you will need to mod some of them.
Second problem is to dump an existing ROM which I honestly know nothing about. But if it's a stock ROM, you should be able to find it somewhere anyway. By the information that you have to choose a language at first startup I think that it was not an official Turkish ROM, but the base for the device was WWE (World Wide English) and then there was a mod added by sunnysoft (http://firma.sunnysoft.cz/htc/). That's the same way it is done with Rhodium. We have no official Polish ROM, but only a sunnysoft plugin that enables the language choosing after a HR.
You can find there the newest WWE ROM and the language localization pack that you need.
Sooo I think what you should look for is an official WWE ROM (the version number you should have in Start -> Settings -> System -> Device information -> Software information) and a Sunnysoft mod with a set of different language.
Another problem is that you want to be able to choose a language after a HR. I don't recommend this method because:
- the way it is done by Sunnysoft is that they add a cab file with necessary modifications to a rom and run it after a HR by means of a .lua file or config.txt. The cab file script first asks the user for the language and then installs another cab according to the choosen language.
That means the resource files (and any other that must be added to the ROM) are just injected into the system as files. They do not delete the original english files from the ROM, but just add their own. Besides many of the .mui files (at least the ones from Base_Lang_0xxx package) should be placed as modules not files because otherwise they compromise the memory management.
So what I learned is that you should make as much changes to the ROM via the kitchen and not by a .cab file.
Furthermore the cab file is not able to make all the system changes. I know because I used to produce special PLK .cab files for Polish users of Rhodium. Mainly because we do not have a good Polish ROM and the Sunnysoft version had many bugs.
And there are a lot more changes that it's better to do during cooking than on the "real ROM".
As for myphone of course you can throw it out. It's not necessary anymore.
When I copy changelanguage.exe from my device to computer I was saw Sunnysoft. So like you said there is no official rom in Turkish. And yes it really has so much bug/mistranslates.

Well, I'm afraid you asking too advanced questions for me.
I never changed the build of the ROM. I only developed and adjusted language files to the ROM cooked by someone else (in my case Jackos and Seem_ZA).
That's why I know that even the .mui files are different among different builds.
The "Latest Official ROM" in the thread you provided is 1.28.401.4, and you write that your ROM is 1.30, so I guess you should take the one from Sunnysoft, dump it and then before you try to translate it, try to change the build. You will se if it is stable, if everything works, and then you will decide if you should include all the fixes HTC provided or not.
Remember - the 6.5.x builds are not "official" (except for some phones offered on Chinese market). Furthermore they are not made by HTC as well, so it's rather not likely that they have their fixes. On the other hand you should look into the fixes and try to judge by what they contain. I'm definitely not advanced ehough to help on it.
But I feel that for you the most important matter is read about cooking so that you know what to do and you know what you should change.
Dump the official ROM (from sunnysoft page) using any kitchen system, look into it, try to understand what parts it is made of. There are some tutorials floating over xda like "basics of ROM cooking" or "Kitchen and utensils for cooks" etc. Changing build is a bit complicated task. You will probably not cook a good&stable ROM without knowing the basics.
On the other hand perhaps you will find a good 6.5.x cooked ROM for Mega for which the chef published his kitchen. Then most of the hard work is done, because you don't need to mess up with build changing, testing performance, optimising XIP and many other tasks.
Then you can start thinking of changing the kitchen to compile a Turkish ROM.

If about language modification I can say that I'm quite "trained", but if about ROM cooking... I have very basic problems (look at my 2 questions on the top of Chef central). So I'm sure you need someone much more experienced to start your cooking adventure. Unfortunately WinMo is slowly dying, so almost nobody looks over here anymore...
