AdaptROM unable to connect - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I can't figure out why AdaptROM cannot connect to my XDA. I am running Active Sync 3.7 on Windows XP pro. I have Norton Anti-Virus and several other applications that are always running. I have tried disabling all of them and it didn't make any difference. I am running the new T-Mo WME2003 and the new 6.4 radio stack on my SX-56. It syncs just fine with the PC and has a pairing relaitionship set up.
Neither AdaptRom or any of the .exe upgrade programs, nor Mobipassword can connect to my XDA. Anyone have any ideas why this might be? I have tired using a serial cable and the USB cradle and changing the connection settings. When I originally upgraded it way back when to the ATTWS SX-56 PPCE2002 rom it worked just fine. I hadn't tried it since.
The only thing I can think of is a registry setting being hosed up. I am going to try uninstalling active sync and reinstalling and see if that makes a difference.
Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I tried removing and reinstalling Ative Sync and it didn't have any effect. Both programs show an Active Sync error cannot connect to device.
It's as if something must have the port tied up.

Same Here
I upgraded to the 4.00.10 rom on my xda but I can't get either adaptrom or Programme A to run so that I can downgrade the device or reflash it.
Any help would be appreciated as I don't have access to an sd card writer.

I had the same problem U had before. the best solution is to buy a SDcard reader to do the job.
Read more from here http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1717.
Good luck

I noticed that the 3.x CE developer environment also cannot connect

Could this mean that some supporting files are missing from the T-Mobile rom? If somebody could get a list of all the files that are different between the 4.00.05 and the 4.00.10 roms then it might point to something...

You can try another hard reset of your xda. That happened to me about a month ago and a hard reset fixed it. Unfortunately I had to create a new relationship etc.. - Jim

Downgrading from WM2003

I just tried WM2003 and came back to SER 1.2 without problems - I was told it's not possible without SD card. Am I so lucky?
Funny, I did the very same thing before reading it couldn't / shouldn't be done, makes me think though, what if it had all gone wrong!!!!!!
For those who have tried the WM2003, please advise me whether it's worth my risk (I'm still indecisive) :?
Just tried to upgrade from 1st version of WME2003 to the latest using the upgrade utility, no go. Goes into upgrade mode on PC & PPC, then progress bar screen on PPC goes to white, a few minutes later a error pop-up on PC telling me to reset & run utility again. When I do so same problem. I'm just curious what version on Activesync are you running & on OS on the Desktop
Thanks

Hey Erick,
I had the same problem with the 1st version of WM2003. I was unable to do the upgrade with the utility. It would seem like the version 4.00.01 of WM2003 is far more mature in terms of this sort of functionality. For example, ActiveSync would not connect with the device in standby. This is not the case in the new version of 2003 which goes to show that maybe some processes were not running.
Going by what I experienced with the older WM2003, I did not try an RUU flash to test if the newer version worked, but I won't be surprised if it does. I was running ActiveSync 3.7 with WinXP Pro.
Thanks Sheran. So I guess it's SD card time This is an ActiveSync problem not an OS problem? What do you think? SD card should work right?
The reason I'm suggesting ActiveSync is I am unable to use any ROM utility to flash any ROM version now, which I was able to do before i.e. SERv1.1.
I believe I had the previous version of ActiveSync back then & now ActiveSync freaks-out when I try to use the upgrade utility for any ROM.

I'm thinking this has more to do with the WM2003 1st version (3.04 build 13083) OS rather than your PC OS or even your ActiveSync. I think the reason some people can use the ROM Upgrade Utility is because they are running the newer version of WM2003 (Ver 4.00.01 build 13100) which seems to work well with ActiveSync.
Unfortunately if you install the older version, until I'm told otherwise, the only way to get out of it is to do an SD Card flash.
Thanks again Sheran I tend to use the SD method, wanted to not have to wait for two write processes. Oh well back to the tried and true method, for now 8)
I was running the newer version (build 13100)

USA RSU Fix...help!

I have officially screwed up my RSU. I can boot into CE just fine, but there is no radio stack to speak of. After having many partial attempts, there's just nothing there. I've tried everything (or so it seems). I can do an activesync connection, btw.
Whenever I try to run PROGRAMME A, it just hangs. I hit the next button and *nothing* happens. That's any program a, whether from ATT or Tmobile.
Hi there,
Did oyu try installing the Radio Stack Programma A thingy from another windows installation? Another pc? Perhaps that will work.
Os course... you could be trying to install a version which is not suited for your GSM provider/GSM hardware. Look for info at your GSM provider website. It's hard is not impossible for anyone here to tell you which version should work for your device.
Cya,
Oz
Yeah...I tried it on my laptop too. The problem seems to be program b, which rewrites the RSU. It simply won't do it for some reason. This shouldn't be the case.
Come on....someone must have some stupid trick to re-flash the radio stack. I remember seeing solutions to the "1% problem," but all of those solutions were with the non-US radio stacks. :-/ I didn't buy my phone from Tmo, so I have no warrenty to speak of.
which rom and ruu were you using? seems like you were using the .exe correct? which unit/network are you on? this might help you get some help. be specific with the problem, etc.
What versions (ROM and Radio Stack) were you using prior to running the EXE upgrade?
What versions are currently installed?
And which radio stack are you trying to upgrade to?
I was using 4.00.005 and the newest ATTWS ROM before, and I was trying to go to Yorch's newest Tmobile beta, the one that includes the RSU.
Right now I have the most recent official Tmobile ROM and no radio stack on there.
Ejdmoo:
After decompressing the rar file, look for the two RSUpgrade files; one is .cp64 and the other is .exe. Copy them via Activesync to the windows directory on your TMo PPCPE. Then execute the RSUpgrade.exe file. That should reflash the new radio stack. It worked for me. Good luck!
David
I am in the same boat as ejdmoo, and had the same roms installed and all that good stuff...still no go with fixing the radio stack. One thing I noticed is that I removed the .cp64 file from the \windows directory and it still tried to update and failed at 1%. I don't think the version of the .cp64 file matters since it is not getting that far.
Another issue that popped up after the failed update is th unit does not charge, it will only run on AC, and it does not show a status in the power app under settings. Bout you ejdmoo?
Come to think of it, I am having the same power/charge problems. Also, I have tried copying the RSUpgrade.exe program to the device multiple times and from multiple sources. Also, I copied some of the other required files (something map and .c64 file), still didn't work. I think it *must* have to do with the RSUpgrade.exe, but I wouldn't know why.
FYI...I'm going on vacation this week (luckily I have a backup phone), but I expect this to be fixed when I get back! :!:

This is what adaptrom returns now, this is when the tmo is connected and browsable via AS. Anyone have any ideas why this would be happening?
Since my unit will be replaced I am willing to do some scary things with it, so if any of the xda-devolopers want me to try something let me know. I have an sd reader/writer and a usb cable but no serial cable.

Been there seen that!
Here is hope I fixed it:
First go to the below site and download and install the v4.21 ENG radio stack upgrade. Now here's the tricky part but I must warn you I did all three and really don't know which one did it, might have been a combo of all three.
1. Entered bootloader mode and selected the 900 band and re-booted.
2. Removed the SIM card and rebooted
3. Entered bootloader mode and turned off the radio.
Note you'll know when you got it right because you'll have a stable Active Sync connection. So after each of the above steps see how stable Active Sync is before trying the next step.
Reran the T-Mobile upgrade (PC install) and all went go well.
02 Radio Stack Upgrade v4.21 (1.54MB) Download.

I'm not sure in which order you want me to do what...?
I had the same problem, but a hard reset fixed it for me.
David
For all of you having the same problem I have been having after upgrading to the O2 4.21 RSU here is what I have found makes the loading of the RSUpgrade files into the \windows directory work. You need to also copy the monitor_ul_bs.m0 and monitor_ul_bs.map files to the windows directory. Then when you execute the RSUpgrade.exe it works.
barjohn you are a genius!!! I can't believe I never thought of moving the other files before...you rock I am now in possesion of a fully working WM2003 T-Mobile PPC PE!!!
Thank You barjohn!!

Boy I forgot about doing the hard reset, what step was that?
It must have came right after the Radio stack upgrade, Right!
So it appears that what works for some doesn't work for others, strange business!
I read barjohn's fix were he manually copied some missing files into the windows folder and that solved it for him, I guess we were just lucky! :?

So it would be save to say that one should just copy the above files into the Windows folder first before starting the initial upgrade and forgo all of the other headaches, agreed!
Qman,
That's a great idea, but then we would miss out on the thrill of thinking we have transformed a great electronic device into a $400 paperweight! What fun is it if everything works out on the first try? Have fun!
David
Well Ive officially made my tmobile ppc a $400 paper weight. I was running the Kitchen rom with ATT radio stack and I attempted to update the RSU to the latest tmobile version to see if it improved the signal meter using the method mentioned here. I copied the files suggested here via activesync to the windows folder on my ppc and ran the exe, the upgrade stopped at 13% and that was it. Unfortunately I dont have a SD reader so Im high and dry until tomorrow. I can access the bootloader and I get the GSM error and thats it.

It works for my 838.. I have lockup and unable to switch to SDcard mode only if I connected to my PC and activesync once and unplug. But that seems to be the activesync issue in my 838 which fail to free itself from unplug from PC. So it cannot switch to SDcard mode..and prompt me an error message.
I have already switch to AS4.1 but does not improve my situation.
What is Microsoft doing here?? A soft reset is the only way to get my device syncup again.. :x
I own this program since I had my XDA mini ...
finally I can use it again to copy some files to my pda and use it as a memory stick...
I also noticed some problems:
1. after I connect the USD cable and the PC recognized my pda as a memory stick, Windows XP asked me to make a reboot in order to be able to use the new 'harddrive'
2. after I copied a .jpg to my pda it looked like the storage card is no longer recognized by WM5. The icons of the shortcuts to programs I installed are missing and I cannot browse with TotalCommander to my storage card.
After disconnecting the USD cable, my storage card could be found again - is this a bug or a feature?!
After the first connect in mode 'Card Export' I switched to 'Active Sync' and the synching went on without any problems.
After agains swithing to mode 'Card Export' my Wizard gave an error message, as follows:
"Cannot switch between Card Export and Active Sanc modes. This may be because of missing dlls or corrupted registry entries."
This looks also to me like an incompatibility between card export and active sync.
Hmpf ... rebootet the phone and connected - voila - my Wizard was again properly verified as Memory Stick and I again could upload another .jpg to my device.
It looks definately unfinished ... but it is working quite acceptable to me, though there is a lot room for improvement, it will get the job done, if I need a memory stick 'on the go'.
My device is a HTC Wizard, O2 german.
i may be wrong on the second point, but activesync alters a file when you transfer it to the pda,
so if you transfer a file to the card (even using a card reader) then put the card back in the pda wm5 will not recognise it properly.
point 1 should only happen the first time of detection.
have no problem with my XDA II...

I am experiencing the same... Please update this topic if you'll find a solution.
i'm having the missing dlls dialog problem too.
I noticed that once you activesync'ed, you can't switch to card mode and need to reboot the device.
However, mine can't seem to work anymore. It won't even switch. But I also tried disabling my today's screen (pocket plus and pocket breeze) and it works... but only the icon manage to change. My PC can't detect it as a mass storage device though.
Any luck?
Mine is working fine, I got that dll message once but a soft reset fixed it.
Just wondering what roms are you guys using that works with softick? I'm using rom version 1.6.7.1 WWE which doesn't seem to work. I tried hard reset and install softick on the first reboot. The computer detected a new hardware but failed to install the device.

Same here too!! using ver 2.12
ver 2.11 worked fine with me, so most probably I will downgrade to it now.
I emailed the tech support and waiting for their reply. I will post it here in case I get anything new.
I just tried v2.12, and it didn't work. I found v2.11 on some download site, and installed it. v2.11 worked fine on Qtek's 2.8.7.1 ROM.
I cant get this to work either using 2.12. I get the device manager problem as mentioned previously. Does anyone know where can i get 2.11 from?
found it here:
http://www.softick.com/files/CardExportPPC211c-softick-en.zip
but i get the same problem
You can find previous versions in the "download" section on the left.
I'm having the same issues, used to work fine with 2.11, then it stopped being able to write but could still read (this is on my Mac), and now with 2.12 I can't even get the thing to mount. I'm talking with the developer to see if we can get a fix.
Any 2.12 and 2.11 not working for me... My computer and three others shows me message that they don't have drivers
I posted a query on their forum.

I'm a bit confused regarding their reply.
You asked a question about the Wizard and they replied saying they are waiting on delivery of HTC Universal to examine it better. I'm not sure what the Universal has to do with compatibilty for the Wizard as they are completely different devices with different hardware. (Mybe i'm wrong and the hardware components that Card Export uses is actually the same on both devices)
Puckster -
I noticed this on second look, and asked for clarification.
just want to inform everyone that there is a free alternative. it's similar to softick card export that it turns your device into a plug-and-play card reader. it's called wm5torage (yes, the number '5' is the letter 'S')
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45411&highlight=wm5torage
it does not have the system tray icon that enables you to switch between activesync and export mode, but rather you open the app in your accessories folder and activate/deactivate it from there.
but hey, it's free and it works

ActiveSync Problem with Cingular 8125

This is driving me nuts. My PDA was running slow so I tried installing the Ruu Wizard 2.17 ROM. It installed, everything seemed fine but I could not Sync with AcitveSync. In fact it will not even recognize the mobile device. It sets it up as a Windows Network ( but I can't access the PDA). I've tried hard resets and reinstalling ActiveSync with no luck. ActiveSync says it cannot detect it. This problem is keeping me from reinstalling the original ROM. Does anyone know how to get AcitveSync to work on this thing? Or can I somehow reinstall the old ROM without AcitveSync? Thanks in advance.
Jason
Sounds like you are using activesync 4,
try upgrading to Activesync 4.1 (avaliable on Microsofts website)
this should fix your problem
Cheers
Steve
I checked and I am using 4.1, still no go. Are there any other Sync programs out there?

New ROM and no connection (Active Sync)

After intensive reading of this site (compliments!!!), I decided to take the risk and replace the old PPC 2002 ROM version (3.12.07 ENG) to ROMkitchens' WM 2003 SE (3.04.00 ENG) on my XDA1. The upgrading process was without complications and after a full reset (Wallaby bootloader V.5.15 was shown) I happily started with the standard installation procedure.
Unfortunately, replacing the XDA in the cradle didn't realise a connection between the XDA and the PC. ActiveSync version is 4.2, USB as connection is enabled. So, e.g. a synchronisation with Office is not established, nor is it possible to install other programs like TomTom.
Is it possible that there are compatibility issues or just wrong settings????
Any help is greatly appreciated (also via PM). I'am looking forward to be able to use my device again!
