Whats the difference between 4.00.01 and 4.00.05???? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

OK...Im very excited and impressed. I would just like to first say "thanks" to everyone who is working hard on the ROM versions.
I flashed my T-mobile (after upgrading the radio to AT&T) to 2003 version 4.001
I now see with the kitchen util that there is 4.005 WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? Other than the software in ROM what does this give me more?
BTW the speed difference in my Radio upgrade and/or 2003 is incredible.
THANKS!

Very minor but it seems people with the .05 rom have less issues overall. Little to any SD card erasing being a good improvement.

What is the Latest reliable ver of PPC2003

I have OZONE PPC2003 ver 3.04.00 and radio ver 4.21.
What are the most up-to-date reliable versions now that can be upgraded using the SDROM method. If you have links to these ROMS please let me know also.
I would suggest a 4.00.05 based ROM from thisROMkitchen.
Why wouldnt you use 4.00.10??

Because when I posted it 4.00.10 wasn't in the kitchen yet...
So is 4.00.10 as stable as 4.00.05 then ?
Also I have seen people saying they cannot get a signal when using Orange with this rom, anyone got any experience with that ?
Cheers

Well, I'm not on Orange, so I wouldn't know, but they both work for me.
I don't easily envision provider-related differences in signal reception between PDA ROM versions, this would be more of a thing that would depend on RSU (Radio Stack) version in my mind.
As for upgrading from .05 to .11 (or 10 to 16), I would say the differences are pretty minimal, I still use 4.00.05 on the phone I actually use, and I see no real difference with the 4.00.11 on my experiment-phone.

Have you experienced any of the SD card erasures yet?

No I haven't. But I must say my large 128 MB Sandisk is not often in there these day, I usually have an 8MB with the write-protect on in there because I often need to re-install something we're working on, and I don't want the automatic delete of the CAB files.
Rom update to 2003
 :?: Would you advise to upgrade from the developers rom to a kitcken cooked rom 2003? If so, version wm2003 .05 or .11 (I live in The Netherlands)
I tried it once but then my XDA, when turned off, did not react anymore to my on-switch-button, also at one time the divice told me that I had insufficient memory on my SD card, which had in fact still 180MB' left, saying it was locked. Eventually found the rom kitchen for the 17.03 version. And was lucky to be able to downgrade it again..Had to reinstall everything and had to format my SD card. What a bummer....
I reackon it was due to software faulty installation???
When using the wm .05 on your device, did you encounter such an event?
I miss the 2003 dual function of my speaker-button and the extra features on the mailer (listing contacts on tapping just a few letters) and the calender extension on the today sceen....
When backing up, installing the ROM wm2003, pending your advice, and recover.... should everything work as it will now?
Awaiting your responce...
Greetings

Cast yr opinion on d most reliable ROM upgrade for O2 XDA

It has been pretty confusing lately on what ROM and Radio stack upgrades to apply on an O2 XDA unit, especially with the emergence of so many ROM and Radio Stack versions all claiming to have solve the problems of its predecessors. So to your what really is the most suitable, most reliable and most stable ROM and Radio Stack version to use on an O2 XDA unit? and why?
Your opinions are going to be pretty helpful for many O2 XDA users who have been dying to get an upgrade...
I recently intalled and tested ROM 4.00.11 ENG and ROM 4.00.16 T-Mobile as a conclusion -- I noticed that although WM 2003 is impressive and has numerous new features to boast than its predecessor (PPC 2002), it still has to work on several bug issues, specially regarding the issue on stability. Although unsatisfied, I do not regret installing WM 2003 beta on my unit because it gave me a perpective on what to expect of this promising new OS the moment final version upgrade becomes available. Overall, I suggest that it's better for us users to stick to our old ROMs until we get the final release of WM 2003 from our respective manufacturers.
So far, the most stable ROM available that I've tried is ROM 3.20.06 ENG and if you want to know why, then I suggest you try it!
Flashing ROMs is dangerous, it might result to an unusable XDA.
Please try to participate coz' this will serve very useful to many users who've been wanting to grab an OS update!!!
Where abouts did you get 3.20.03?[/quote]

MDA Vario has started resetting itself!

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can advise me on how to stop my Vario randomly resetting itself. It's only just started to do this in the last few days having installed a few programs like SPB Pocket Plus, SPB Weather and SPB Backup.
My device information is:
ROM: 1.6.2.4 WWE
ROM Date: 11/15/05
ExtROM Version: 1.6.2.105
Will updating the ROM improve thisngs, if so, which one is the best? Any advice giben is really appreciated, thanks.
I had the same problem with the same software installed.
Don't know if it was the software but a replacement handset had version 2.21 and it is now much more stable with much better battery life too.
Good Luck
Is version 2.21 an official T-Mobile upgrade? If so, where do i get it from?
I returned my previous MDA Vario to T-Mobile due to constant rebooting.
The new handset they supplied had the following details :-
ROM Version 2.21.2.6.WWE
ROM Date 3/9/06
Radio Version 02.19.11
Protocol Version 4.1.13.09
Ext ROM Version 2.21.2.109
I guess it must be an official T-Mobile version as they supplied the handset.
It is much more stable then the 1.6 or so version I previously had.
Hope this info helps.
Thanks for that.
If it is ROM rebuild that i need, i better start reading up on how to debrand the phone and add a Mr Clean ROM as they're supposed to be the best ones to use. I don't fancy sending my phone back to T-Mobile as i've heard stories exchange units being sent out!
why do you not just up grade you phone to the newer rom!!! it is so easy to do!
Cheers for the advice, i've downloaded the official 2.26 ROM from T-mobile, i just have to back up all my contacts and setting and then i'll have a go at installing the new ROM.
Fingers crossed it all goes well!
I am having the same problems with the newest tmobile oem rom update..
I have installed the following apps.
battery plus pro 3.0
Omap 0.4
PediSuite
Photo Explorer
Microsoft Voice Command.
and the device will reboot atleast once a day if not more. can anyone tell me why it is rebooting?
Thanks.
^^ If your using omap to overclock its possible your device is unstable at the faster speeds causing the reboot.

hmmmm, I am only over clocking to 240 like most people are doing. but I did not encounter this problem until I updated to the new rom and reinstalled omap newest version with the auto load.
anyone else with the newest rom and omap installed?

Performance related to ROM version?

Hi all,
First post here after discovering this wonderful resource!
I am in the UK and have an O2 XDA Mini S, it was one of the first ones released I think.
I took off all of the O2 stuff as soon as I got it as it was extremely slow!
While it is ok most of the time, the performance can get pretty bad sometimes, seems like theres a memory leak somewhere.
Once rebooted its ok again for a few days.
The IPL and SPL version are both 1.05. I take it this is a very old (First?) version, and was wondering if upgrading it to a newer ROM would help the performance at all?
Other specs are as follows...
Rom Version - 1.5.4.2 WWE
ROM Date - 11/08/05
Radio version - 01.09.10
Protocol Version - 4.0.13.20
Ext ROM version - 1.5.4.102
Thanks...

Can't say I've used a 1.x rom version on my Wizard, but I have used a couple of official 2.1x roms, as well as Faria's WM5 rom and now I use Zoki's NBD WM6 rom. I can definitely say that I've seen performance improvements as I upgraded along this path. I've also found memory mgmt seem to be better on WM6 and I actually see memory reclaimed often, where this never happened before WM6.
Another thing to do is use batterystatus or omap to (slightly) overclock. I overclock to 260MHz using batterystatus.
Thanks for that Titus666,
Bit of a newbie with these things so excuse the question...
Does the ROM contain the OS then? eg. I have WM5 on mine. If I updated to another ROM would it update the OS to WM6 too?
Think I'll have to try a ROM update or 3 then, and try not to break it!

Yes, a ROM would contain the OS as well as the supporting apps and drivers like Bluetooth and Wifi etc. So there are many ROMs that are all WM5 but are all different, and similarly there are lots of ROMs that are WM6 but are all different as well.
So yes, if you want WM6, you will need to upgrade the rom. There are a number of sticky threads in the Wizard forums that spells out what needs to be done and what the traps are (and there are lots of traps), so read read read is my advice.

Best Radio Rom for Wiz G4

Hello Friends,
I've just updated OS to WM6.1 Final Final Angel.
Now I need to upgrade Radio Rom.
I'm in India on GSM. What is the best Radio Rom that will work for me?
Also, is it a good idea to upgrade Radio Rom? Or should I just leave it alone?
I loaded 2.71.11
On Saturday, I installed Radio ROM 2.71.11
So far it's been good. No dropped calls and call quality is good. I haven't noticed any big difference, but I'm sure there would be some improvement.
SMS are getting delivered a little late. That could be the problem with other's network, no idea.
I haven't kept a tab on the power consumption, but am sure, it would not be affected. If it becomes a problem, then I will have to re-flash something else.
One quick question - In the upgrade set-by-setp guide, it was clearly written not to flash 3.x ROMs. (I guess SPL/IPL). So is there a problem if I flash Radio ROM 3.x? Are they any good?
