Wireless Modem program? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi All,
Reading all the stuf about unlocking through XDAunlock.exe it seems that I need the Wireless Modem feature installed which is not included in my ROM v. 3.12.07 ENG (o2).
I am wondering if it is included with the o2 latest ROM v.3.17 ENG and should first upgrade to it or how and where can I find it to install it ?
Would like first to unlock the XDA & play around and then install the new XDA SER dev. 1.2 version, when available.
Furthermore, after installing the modem, it seems that I can use it only with iRDA or serial cable connection. No USB ?
Any help welcomed!
Many thanks,
Gear

you can backup your rom either using an sd card.
or with these tools:
Code:
pmemdump 0x80040000 0x1ec0000 x.nb1

Sorry, I lost you.
What has the backup to do with the Wireless Modem?

No, currently the wireless modem program supports only serial and iRDA. Yes, this sucks.

Thanks for the prompt reply but, where can I find the Wireless Modem application to install?

Hi
I m planning to unlock the xda of my dad. So if i install this modem wireless function that let you unlock your XDA after using the small program my dad won t be able the sync using the usb cable?
thx a lot

No, He'll be able to sync using USB just fine.
he won't be able to use the device as a wireless modem via USB however, only via IRdA or Serial.
But it doens't affect normal syncing/use of the device.

OFF: Search wireless modem .exe program! Please help me!

No, won't work. Presently, your WM2003 ROM is not capable of doing supporting the wmodem application. Either go back to PPC2002 or wait for wmodem on WM2003.

Rom Ugrade Questions

I am having afew problems trying to upgrade the rom, and have afew questions before i start i have not been able to find the answers for in the forum.
Does upgrading the ROM with an O2 version lock the SIM type again, so it has to be unlocked again?
Can you upgrade using an IRDA cable or does it have to be serial or USB?
Why does the provided ROM upgrade crash after step 2?
I seem to be having no end of trouble with this thing. It seems that one problem just seems to lead to another. I'm seriously starting to regret this!

If you've unlocked it properly (i.e. with an unlock code from your provider or with The Manipulator), it will remain unlocked.

An IRDA cable? You can upgrade via serial or USB.
IRDA
You can install stuff using active sync and an infra red cable, i am assuming you cannot upgrade the rom using the same equipment. Could this be the reason the software crashes after step 2 of the rom upgrade?

XDAunlock: Unlocking without serial cable

XDAunlock needs no serial cable
You can now use XDAunlock to remove the SIMlock from phones with the latest ROMs (Qtek or XDA-developers Special Edition ROM).
Users that install the Special Edition ROM do not need to download since XDAunlock is included and ran at cold-boot. Users of Qtek 3.16.52 ROM click here.
Using XDAunlock you can also view the SIMlock code or re-lock your phone (using command-line arguments).
[I attached the EXE for easy downloading. Works on any 3.x ROM that has wmodem.exe]
Excellent work! True brilliance
I'll be testing this real soon. All I have to do is find a unix box....or will linux do aswell?
Chiani
a windows box with http://www.cygwin.com/ unix tools will do too.
make sure you select perl and bash in the cygwin setup tool.
xda unlock
i have recently downloaded the xdaunlock.exe and transfered it to my xda but an error occured.
the error message was: "error getting unlock code"
could this happen because i have the german version or where can i find a data which is working on my german xda.
Or is it enough only to change the language
It says on the page: XDAunlock only works if you upgrade to a ROM which also has the Wireless Modem feature. Presently, this is either the new O2 English ROM, the latest Qtek ROM, or our own XDA-developers ROM, of shich a new version is due out later today. Given the number of irritating issues some people are experiencing, you may want to wait for the new one, which will fix all these issues.
Special Edition ROM now official unlocking method
I've updated the Manipulator page to say that we no longer advise anyone to download The Manipulator unless they already have a serial cable and need to reset call counters or change IMEI on pre 4.20 phones.
Installing the Special Edition ROM is the preferred method for unlocking from now on. Sell your XDA serial cable company stocks today.
Just use this excellent proggy with my XDA which was locked to O2 took 2 seconds to unlock with just this proggy and its now unlocked to all networks, GREAT JOB Guys thx

Great, I love detailed error reports.
Avri: I think the moderator of your forum has already contacted us. If you're the same person, you probably have 'no signal', right?
If so: did you mess with the 'GSM band' tool under 'Programs'? If you did, just set it 900/1800, possibly soft-reset your phone afterwards (stick the stylus in the big hole on the bottom left) and you should be fine. Let us know if that is not it, or if you're a different person altogether. But please, please, please, do not come back saying:
It still doesn't work. Please help.

Instead: provide detailed descriptions of why and how precisely "it doesn't work".

Hi
Yes I am the sane person.
I didn't sleep for 2 nights I read a lot in this forum.
I tried what you said I get i bandswitch current 900/1800
but I still get NO SIGNAL.
I wroth before that I have T-Mobile PW10B1 model.
Please help this phone cost in Israel about $1,700
regards
avri
If the provider you're trying to connect to is on 1800, chances are things will not work. Major consensus narrative at this time is that at least the filtering for this phone is not set to a wide-enough range to make it a true tri-band phone, even if it might work in some sporadic cases.

I'm confused, what would *nix be needed for?
cheers

simple onlocking process
WARNING THICKO ALERT!!. I am referring to myself here I have looked at the various postings on unlocking but cant seem to get my head round what is required to unlock my XDA. I have just received a second hand O2 locked 32MB XDA it came with two USB cradles and all the other stuff. Can anyone please tell me is there a simple way to have it unlocked without sending it off. There are many references to the unlocking progam on here but no direct link to it. I would like to be sure that the unlocking process is simple and relativley risk free can anyone offer any help maybe an already created ROM or whatever it is that is required? If the file is largish please send it to [email protected] this is my broadband email address and can accept large files.
Cheers Sean
*nix (or cygwin) is needed when you want to build your own rom, using our mkrom tools.
you can find xdaunlock here. you will need a relatively new rom ( which includes wmodem.exe ) to run it. either 3.17 qtek, or our own Special edition ROM
Re: Thicko Alert: I managed to download the unlocling software and hey presto its unlocked.!!So yes the thicko was apt all I had to do was read the item fully.
Now for another question. Can anyone suggest a suitable method of connecting to the net using my unlocked xda. I dont need to worry about phone costs (long story) so as long as the dial up is a UK one with no out of country prefixes I should be able to get online free?
Unlocking Siemens SX56 ATT US
I have an At&t siemens sx56 that Im trying to get to work on vodaphone in Germany. I've tried the XDA Unlock program, but it won't work because I don't have the latest ROM. I'm not sure what to do from here, especially because I use it with a mac and the PocketMac software, so I can't use a serial cable. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Jake

Yes: simply back up everything and install the XDA-developers Special Edition ROM. It will unlock your device and make it cooler.

Using SX56 to connect to laptop to connect to gprs

Can anyone tell me how to use the GPRS on a SX56 as a wireless enabler for a laptop via InfraRed?
Thanks
IR Modem
You can find your answer (and much more) here:
http://www.myxda.com/XdaII/serviceandsupport/template/XdaIIHowToUse.vm
I was able to connect my T68i as a bluetooth GpRs modem to my tablet PC with a Anycom bluetooth card without any problems.
Using the same tablet I am able to bond the XDA II and ActiveSync using bluetooth.
I have figured out that I would have to create a Bluetooth modem on my tablet PC and then create a GpRs connection with the dial up number for t mobile GpRs in USA.
The problem is that in control panel of the tablet under modems if I try to create a new modem as the XDA II I would need software which I do not have.
Under modems in my tablet PC I only see:
Direct connection
T68i on COM 9
Can anyone help?

Unfortunately the other reply to this thread applies to the XDAII, whilst you have an "XDA I"... As has been discussed in other threads, the Windows Modem capability is part of some version 3 based ROMs, including the XDA Dev "Special Edition" but has not been a part of any version 4 based (WindowsMobile 2003) ROMs until this recent development of the German 4.00.33 ROM.
Are you using 2003/ROM 4.00.xx? If so, your choices are to downgrade to a vers. 3 ROM from a kitchen, or to wait until someone smarter than me figures out how to get the German Modem firmware into an English ROM.

enable bluetooth modem + activesync via bluetooth?

I have been searching this forum and couldn't really find a definite answer for this, so I apologize if this is a repeat question.
I have Cingular 8125 that has been unlocked and flashed with xelencin's T-mobile 2.17 ROM. I have been trying to use the device as bluetooh modem and also activesync via bluetooth, but unable to do so. I have tried for hours and this has been a very frustrating experience!
Could somebody help me with a step-by-step guide on how to get this thing to work? I am using Windows XP Pro with service pack 2, ActiveSync 4.1, and widcomm 3.0.1.913
Thanks in advance for your help!

Upgrading XDA IIi to 1.11.171 without a PeeCee??

Hi there,
I've downloaded the latest UK firmware for my XDA IIi from O2's website and it seems to come as a big old Windows executable. I use a Mac, so is there any way to install the upgrade onto the XDA IIi without using a PeeCee and ActiveSync, please?
I do have a PeeCee here which I could probably use to extract the contents of the .exe, or I may be able to do that on my Linux box, but I'd rather just transfer the Windows Mobile executable to the XDA over wireless LAN than have to dig out the cradle, install ActiveSync &c.
Are there any versions of this firmware available without the extra O2 rubbish, please? This forum covers so many nationalities & hardware versions that I bet I could read for an hour to find this information.
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Stroller.

Are the two files in there both the same, apart from the O2 stuff?
I am actually using an O2 SIM, and I'm currently locked to O2's network. I don't like the "O2 Active User Interface", tho' - can I use the O2stuffstripped version?
Cheers,
Stroller.
yup, you can use the O2stuffstripped version if you want to...
