T-mobile ROM 3.19.03 GER and mkrom - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi there,
german t-mobile released the ROM 3.19.03 GER, ROM Date: 5/31/03
http://www.t-mobile.de/mda/software/1,2223,3076-_,00.html
the RUU on this site is 3.23.00 (so nothing new). On my device I am running the RUU 4.21.00.
I am using a XDA formerly driven from O2. We had to switch to t-mobile because of technical problems that O2 could not solve. With adaptrom I am now using the official t-mobile rom  . But the MMS software tells me that it will only run on t-mobile devices..(anyone a hint where this software checks and still find the XDA instead of MDA?)
Anyway, I was trying to use mkrom with the Knoppix CD linux. And am pretty sure that I am following the instructions. But the mkrom script is throwing a message in all the 4 dd lines...telling dd is not allowes to do this operation...the result is, that I receive in the out folder file from about 20 MB instead of the expected 31 MB.
Here I need help. The Knoppix is running from CD and my mkrom folder is stored on a r/w FAT32 partitition...my only guess is that it could be related to the fact, that the linux runs off the CD as I am no linux specialist hope someone has an idea.
I would love to build a German "Special" ROM...

XDA w/ ppc2002 upgrade request help to 2003

Hi,
This probably the most asked question here yet I have one thing thats different to the others from what I have read.
I live in Australia, my 02 XDA ppc isnt sim locked or anything however my issue is related to the o/s I have ppc2002 I wanted to upgrade to 2003 and found a file for download and am unaware if this file is the correct file to download for upgrade to my XDA?
I also know I need a radiostack which will work on my XDa once it has been updated to 2003.
2003 file @ http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/PPC2003PE.nb1.zip
Radiostack which will work for me?????
Any help would be appreciated aswell as telling me what are the neccessary files on my PC to use to flash the ppc phone edition via my USB cradle also.
Any other info should be available with my profile.
Regards
A7MAD
Hi,
if ur phone works fine in making/receiveing calls, then all u need is a ROM upgrade. goto the kitchen at www.yorch.net and cook a ROM based on 4.00.05 ENG. select the file to be an exe file. download the file to ur PC and connect the xda to the cradle and make sure it's connected to power. run the exe and follow the instructions.
good luck
Hi,
Thanks Biso007 for all your info/help.
I am currently downloading the file that I 'cooked' as I type this out however one thing I was not sure about was in the string section was I to change the string to 4.00.05 as it was set on 3.16 ...
I did change it and its downloading I assume there should not be any issues.
If there is any concerns or if I did the wrong thing by that please inform me... BTW the file was made into an .exe.

A7MAD
Hi,
I visited www.yorch.net and 'cooked' my own ROM made it into an exe and have it downloaded right here it's a 4.05.00 rom flash but I have to ask what software can I use to flash the unit with because I do not have an SD card so I am stuck using my PC to do the flash, I have the official backup files for my ppc from 02's site so I am ok I guess if all else fails i will flash back to what I am currently using.
I wanted to flash the rom onto my ppc however what software can I use? I tried Microsofts Sync software I have 3.7 but it doesnt allow me to flash as it gives me an error message.

unfortunately this is a known issue with some ROMs that can't accept the exe method. you are stuck with the SD card upgrade.
Will adaptrom not work for this?

Who can give me their T-Mobile number so I can dl the upgrad

hi,
Sum1 here who a T-Mobile subscriber? I have a T-Mobile PocketPC that I need to unlock tho I'm not a T-Mobile subcriber. I need a T-Mobile mobile number to get the upgrade at http://www.t-mobile.com/products/handhelds/pocketpc/download_popup.asp
Or if someone already downloded the upgrade where can I download it without keying-in the mobile number? Thanks.
BTW, I have a question, if I download the upgrade, can I now use the XDAunlock.exe file here (is my ROM automatically updated)? My ROM version now is 3.14.40 ENG. I'm having trouble with the ROM updater here since im not linux literate.
Email me at [email protected]. Thanks a lot
I already downloaded the TMobile upgrade. Can somebody tell me if this upgrade will indeed upgrade my ROM to the correct ROM version with wirelss modem feature to I can use the XDAunlock.exe to unlock my xda? Thanks
The answer is NO, the latest TMO upgrade is 4.01.00 and it has no wmodem.exe application. If you need to unlock your device, go to www.xda-developers.com/XDAunlock/ and use the tool there.
If it doesn't work, try the kitchen at www.yorch.net and cook a new 3.17 based ROM and flash your XDA and unlock it, then you can upgrade to TMO 4.01.00 later.
BTW, the TMO upgrade affects the RSU part. So, unless you are a TMO user you better use the .nbf file only with either SD card or use the XDAtools to flash your device.
Good luck.
Hi Biso,
How can I "cook" a rom? http://kitchen.romanweb.com/kitchen/index.php when I go to that website, the only thing needed to be selected are the 3.17.03 ENG O2-Euro (6656 kB available) and XDA-developers AutoConfig data (113 kB) under it. and the unlocking option right? This wil be the first to use my pocket pc device, which option should I select under How would you like your ROM?
installer EXE
zipped NK.nb1 (SD-card flashing)
zipped NK.nbf (advanced users)
and should I do anything on the NBF header string?
Thanks man.
If I use the intaller EXE file, how will I "flash" it on my device? What are the differences between using the exe,nk.nb1 and nk.nbf? Thanks again.
I notice that above the page there is an indication, by default when I go to the page (without checking or unchecking anything) the top of the page states:
space in ROM: 6656 kB
used: 7729 kB
free: -1072 kB
*overload*
Should I limit my ROM on 6656 kB (meaning that I have to uncheck other options)? My deveice is an XDA 1. Thank you.
Hi ...
Yes, you have to uncheck some optional s/w till the guage line is "Green".
If you are not familiar with the SD method, just select the EXE type. It will generate a 15 MB exe file which you should download it to your PC. Connect your XDA to your PC throught the cradle and ActiveSync and run the exe file while the cradle is connected to the power supply and follow the instructions on the screen.
Good luck.
Thanks man for the quick reply.
Sorry I'm getting confused. Should I transfer the exe file to the device and run the exe file on the device?
Thanks again
The exe file runs from your desktop, your xda will need to be synced with your pc before running the exe.
Thanks so this is what I have to do:
First sync my device (cradle connected to the power supply) and after synching, run the exe file on my desktop computer (no need to transfer on my device or anything?). That's it?
Is this fail-proof? Will it not damage my device if ever there was an interruption or sumthing? How can I make sure that I can go fail-proof? Kinda worried coz I just got hold of my xda 1 (T-Mobile edition), I'm a palm user before. Thanks
BTW, my PocketPC Version is 3.0.12039 (Build 11178). ROM version 3.14.40 ENG. I don't know if my PocketPC is 2002 or 2003. I'll be using the yorch.net ROM (http://kitchen.romanweb.com/kitchen/index.php). All compatible?
ROM 3.14 is a PPC2002 one and all ROMs on Yorch.net is WM2003 except the 3.17 one.
Just to ensure it's a safe process, remove the SIM and SD card from the device and stop any running applications on your PC.
Good luck ...
Thans Biso. How bout a step by step guide? Pls pls pls? Id really appreciate it man.
Like
1. Sync the device (Power connected to the cradle)
2. Run the Rom Exe file
3. etc.
Just to be sure. BTW, is the exe file really just 150KB? Is that all I need to unlock my device?
Hi ...
There is nothing really needed more than what you just wrote:
1. Connect the XDA to the cradle and sync while the power is connected.
2. Run the EXE file and follow the instructions on the screen.
BTW, the EXE file should be at least 15 MB, seems your ROM was not "cooked" well .... try again
Ohh ok. I downloaded twice and all I got was 150kb. how will I know that the ROM i got is "cooked" well so I can be free of troubles. Can you just give me a link to the right/"well cooked" ROM? Thanks man.
One more thing, should I run the ROM EXE file while my device is synching or after the synch?
it's still 150 kb. Here's what it says when I view the log
./mkrom.sh: ../../kitchen.local/mkrom-inc.sh: No such file or directoryno files for configid 26220739Cannot fit files in given sectionsError splitting files
seems there is something wrong with the kitchen work space ... it happens sometimes ... no big issue.
You may try this kitchen as well http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
P.S: run the EXE file after the device is synced
which one should I pick? Pocket PC 2002 ROM or Windows Mobile 2003 ROM. And what's the difference. Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks for the replies.
Biso,
Can I use an MMC card for flashing? I MIGHT be able to borrow an MMC card. Also, I dont have a card reader but I have a digital camera which I can use to transfer the ROM image from my desktop computer to the card. Would you think it would work? Thanks again man.
will the exe file below work for me?
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
and
http://www.xs4all.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
This is my Device's Information
ROM version: 3.14.40ENG
ROM date: 11/26/02
Radio version: 6.18
Protocol version: 324e4
Pocket PC Version 3.0.12039 (Build 11178) (Don't know if this is 2002 or 2003 pocketpc)
Pls reply. thanks
Hi ...
1. As the figure tells, WM2003 is the latest than PPC2002.
2. I can recommend to use TMO 4.01.00 as I have it on my device for almost 3 months now with no problems so far (few things have to be tweaked tho), but I heard good news about AT&T 30.09 ROM as well.
3. I can't confirm that MMC can replace SD card. I saw some threads on this but no final results.
4. The answer is NO, the only way to move the NBF file to the SD card is either a card writer or by using XDAtools with the XDA cradle. I don't think the card will be recognized by the bootloader otherwise.
5. SER-V12 is a PPC2002 ROM and useful only if you need to unlock your device (which I believe it's already unlocked).
No I just want to unlock the device, that's it I don;t really want a ROM upgrade, just so happens that I need to have a ROM upgrade to unlock the device
SO I can use the SER-V12? Thanks a lot.

Upgrading to pocket pc 2003

As I want to buy Voice command I had to upgrade to 2003. I had 2002 on
my xda with the last upgrade from o2 asia radio is 4.21.00.
I got XDA tools and a nk.nb1 file from the rom kitchen with
only 4.00.05 ENG ppc2003 on it.
I stopped all programs from the xda soft reset it and put it on the cradle.
It has wallaby loader5.17 so I was not sure if it would work. After reading
the articles from mr poelman I went ahead. First I ran Start.bat in xdatools which runs adaptrom and program a. I then gave it the nk.nb1
filename (from the yorch.net rom kitchen) and clicked ok on the upgrade.
5 or so anxious minutes went by then i was asked to disconnect and reset.
The startup says test only not for resale version of windows powered
Did the normal setup and it now works perfectly on 2003. The phone also
is a1. The about now tells me i have version 4.20.1081 which is fine for voice command. The rom is 4.00.05ENG and the radio is 4.21.00.
Many thanks to these sites. I will now have to donate some money soon.
PS I just found out that Microsoft does not sell voice command to Australia
what a let down after all this effort.

Rogers Canada Mobile 2003 Upgrade (not SE)

After alot of *****ing and customer service that did not have a clue that the supplied the SX56 and software. I finally found some intelligent life at Rogers and was provided this link to the Rogers Mobile 2003 upgrade for those Canadians that still need it.
Here is the required link >>>>>

Thanks... but a problem
Thanks for this link. I was successfully able to download this update from the site: however.... the software will not update my phone
I am using the phone on rogers, but this phone is one that i purchased that was originall At&T from the USA.
I downloaded a ROM from here, it is a PPC2002 version, with a whole bunch of toys, looks cooked, but not by me. I used this to unlock the radio.
I would like to upgrade to 2003. This image will not load and i dont know whether i should try cooking another one and loading it, or if there is a way to get this one on there. Having an OS endorsed by my carrier is somewhat comforting, but i dont know if this is at all legitimate.
I get the following error after clicking the first NEXT in the upgrade process:
ERROR 012 CHECK ERROR
The rom image that you are trying to upgrade is not compatible with your PPC phone. Please compare the devidce and upgrade information below
Current device info:
MODEL PW10A1
ROM 3.17
Your Upgraded Image Info:
MODEL PW10B1
Rom R.30
Please download the compatible utility and try again.
Perhaps i am out of luck?
Thanks
Ian
Trick
The trick I used to get around this, is start the installer you downloaded, it will create a directory x:\program files\SX56 upgrade utility. Copy all the files from this directory to a safe place, then cancel the installer.
In there there will be a NK.NBF file. Use the XDATool OSImage tool to make a SD card image, then on the XDA hold down the power button and soft reset to then do the install of the new ROM image. Covered elsewhere on this site many times...
After that, copy the RSU*.* and monitor*.* files from the above directory to the devices \windows directory and run RSupgrade.exe to upgrade the radio stack.
Worked for me.
Meathooks.
Questions
I apologize if this seems like stupid questions but: What is the difference, if any, between PPC 2003 and WM 2003?
I downloaded and installed (or attempted to anyway) the 2003 update from the Siemens website - the one for Rogers users. I, unknowing the problems other have had, attempted to install straight from the .exe file. The radio stack updated sucessfully but the unit hung when attempting to update the ROM. The program asked for a soft-reset and to run the installation program again. When I did this the unit would not power on and my computer didn't recognize that the SX56 was even attached... anyhow, couldn't get anything to work after numerous attempts. The people at Siemens told me to send the unit back to Rogers. I did. Rogers just forwards the unit to Siemens anyway and now I've been without it for 2 weeks. argh.... When i do get the unit back (which I'm starting to think may be never!) i will try again with the recommended use of XDAtools instead of straight from the EXE file. Even though I won't go through that again i'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem and if they have found the reason for it and a way to install straight from the EXE file without any problems.
Thanks,
Sean
Difference
No difference bwn the two, the proper term is Windows Mobile 2003.
Meathooks.

No prob for the upgrade, sorry I did not get back to you earlier (out of the loop for a while), but Meathooks is right, this is the way I had to go as well. Worked great and have not found any bugs so far.
I have another XDA as well. THis one i actually bought from Rogers (for $1000) before knowing that these can be had on ebay for $200 - so i got a second one (my ATT phone) when my cat chewed the antenna on my Rogers phone.
The rogers took the update no problem, straight from the EXE file as in the attached WORD document above.
The rom on the rogers phone was R.2???? something before the update.
Why are some of the ROM versions called R.2 or R.3 and some are just called 3.17 or whatnot?
As for my ATT (primary) phone, does anyone recommend using the rogers provided update over using the one i cooked yesterday or visa versa?
Thanks
Ian

Dear All,
Is it possible to unlock the SIM on universal
Is tit possible to change the language on the phone from french to English
Can you please guide me on how to do the above as I dont speak french
Is it possible to save the current settings on the phone if the above fails
as the operator sayzs that the warrantz on the phone is void if the language is changed or the SIM is unlocked
My current configuration
operatpor 7.113.5.132
Rom version 1.13.51 FRE
Rom Date 22-09-2005
Radio 1.03.00
Protocol Version 42.36.P8
Ext rom 1.13.132 FRE
I can help you change language from french to english.
Doesn't your Universal have a place where you can download the french ROM? If not, it is still possible to backup the french ROM. A little complicated, but i'm sure i can walk you thru the process.
Regarding the unlocking, i don't think it is possible at the moments. The geniuses are working on it but as of now, you can have it unlocked thru your provider. Just pay the fee (which i think is around 20-30€)
Dear Jorgee,
I would appreciatte if you can walk me htrough the language change, I have tried the provider which is orange switherland, that the lock is definite
A Bellah
First step is to tell me which ROM you would like? O2, Qtek, Imate or T-Mobile?
and i assume you would like it in english?
Just tell me what ROM you need and i will walk you thru it
Dear Jorge
My current configuration
operatpor 7.113.5.132

Which of the following ROM's would you like?
O2
QTEK
IMATE
Take note, flashing the ROM/Changing the language doesnt get rid of the SIM Lock
Dear Jorge,
Which ever you think is best out of all the three you have listed.
ANother question if I may, Would this affect the phone configurations by orange
Thanks

I guess if you want the fastest or newest? The fastest in MY opinion is the QTEK because it has few customizations. The newest I believe is O2 ROM
Regarding Phone configurations of Orange, the configurations are set thru a .CAB file which is stored in Extended ROM. All you have to do before changing ROM is to backup the extended ROM, then Flash the device to english, then run the CAB file that has the Orange customizations.
If you can give me a list of the files in your Extended ROM, i'll do my best to explain what each file does
Dear Jorge,
I guess I will use the same as youy which I thinkl would be the qtek.
Ok where do i get the programme to back upo the extended rom
Thanks
Backing up extended rom, have to install Total Commander. Then in total commander, type \EXTENDED_ROM which will show you the contents of the extended ROM. Just copy to the SD card and save in your computer, that's how you backup extended ROM
For backing up the OS ROM, refer to this thread as it was BUZZ that helped me find out what to do.
Its : http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?op...=view&id=8573&catid=33&limit=15&limitstart=15
Just download the file at the bottom of this page (page 2) then continue on to page 3 and 4 which explains how to do it. Just PM me regarding where you are already and I will walk you thru the rest as I have already done the procedure
Hello Jorgee,
I got to this stage and created the file on the desktop but I tried to run the command in dos but I got an error message
Where can I download the qtek rom from
Thanks

What command did you enter that caused you to get an error message?
go here ftp://xda:xdaftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Universal/Shipped ROMs and download UNI_Qtek_WWE_11364_151_10300_Ship.exe for the English ROM.
are you sure you don't want to backup your ROM first?
Just drop me a message if you get lost.
dos command
i want to back it up first but I am getting the folowing error on the dos command
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

operable program or batch file.
Did you install EnableRapi on the PPC first before doing this?
THen you have to disable the USB connect option of ActiveSync,
Then enter Bootloader mode on yor universal,
then connect it to the computer,
then run the pdocread
is this what you did?
no I followed the articel your refered me to, I ran the enable rapi, then connected to the usb and then ran the programme.
I also tryed to download the qtek system but the link you gave me does not let me acess the site
you have to put xda:xda in the link as this is the username and password. Or use an ftp program to access the site, this might be easier
I put it in the bootloader state and still the same message
I put it in the bootloader state and still the same message, but the message on the article you refered me toi says not to do so, I have tried both methods and cantr seem to be able to get it done
Sorry, but i don't know what to say. Are you using the original cable?
