A quote from o2 support UK 28/03/03
"Thank you for your email. We still have no set release date but we are very, very close to launching the download on the site. I have recorded your email address and will contact you when the download is available.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
Kind Regards,
O2 Data Support."
I replied
"Thank you for your reply at least i got one. (however no release date sounds bad news)"
Which Prompted this
"Unfortunately I'm not at liberty to set a date for the release. I can only say that we are very close to the release, and the final details are being ironed out.
I guarantee that when the release date is set, I will email you with the link to the update.
Regards
O2 Data Support"
Looks unlikely for a March Release chaps
XDA Upgrade
May not be too bad guys - got this from 02 on 278h March!
"We are expecting the upgrade to be posted on the O2 Uk website within the next 1-2 weeks."
We shall see...
OK, there has been a lot said about O2 UK and their lack of an official upgrade rom, unlike O2 Holland, Germany and Ireland.
To be fair to them, they have promised March and we have not yet reached the deadline so its unfair to slag them off about broken promises until they actually break them.
So, on Tuesday 1 April, if there is still no upgrade on their site, I suggest we ALL start emailing them (or ring them), and DEMAND to know why they have not released it as promised IN WRITING on their own website.
The email address for O2 UK xda support is [email protected]
I have just been in contact with O2 UK. The good news is they still intend to go ahead with the update today. The bad news is:
ROM - Version 3.14
Radio - Version 4.08
They are working towards 3.16 / 4.20, however this is a few (4 - 6) weeks away, as they are not yet happy that it is stable. They cannot yet guarantee a date for this.
For anyone with higher numbers than the ones to be release today, it is recomended that you downgrade, as 3.14 and 4.08, whilst not perfect, is the most stable build yet - hence their release today.
The only problem is, that the last connection used becomes the default. Therefore if you dial WAP, then later open IE, it will automatically dial WAP and hence there will be no content available.
There are also plans to provide long awaited documentation for the radio stack (probably 4.20 when it is released). O2 believe this is important, and are pushing heavily to release this information.
I'll keep you updated.
Hmm, German O2 already released version with REAL WAP & MMS EzOS client embedded. Shame on you, english suckers...
Good news. Radio stack is 4.16!
...and?? I had 4.16 for over two months
ROM Upgrade live
The upgrade is now live. 3.14.13 ROM, 4.16 Radio
Radio upgrade
I have ROM V3.14.13 already (dated 10/09/02) but Radio is V4.08. Can I upgrade only the Radio Stack on its own to V4.16 and is there any point? What improvements does the new Radio Stack make?
Thanks for any advice.
Paul
UK ROM update now available at http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgrade/0,,170,00.html
if it wasnt clear from the above thread.
Rom upgrade
I've upgraded my RMm & Radio Stack and all is fine except that it's wiped O2 specific software such as Action Backup and Action Update as well as MyO2. At the risk of asking a dumb question, where can I download these. Asking O2 technical support is like speaking to a politician: the question is simple but the answer is irrelevant.
Will those upgrade work on the Qtek 1010 without problems?
ARZLEB: yes, but I thought you have 3.15.15 which is WAY BETTER
I still can't understand why they release a 9/2002 dated update NOW??? I have update dated March 4th 2003 from T-M Czech, that's what I call SUPPORT!
bearing in mind the new O2 update only updates the radio if you already have 3.14.13 eng , if you use the XDA not on O2 network ie unlocked would it make more sense to update to a newer releash combination such as IRE version?
Zviratko, Thanks for your help yes i should have upgraded it to the version you have provided me with but i wasnt seccessful at all with serious of errors specialy with errors for replacing old files with older files any advice?
As expected the new rom was not on the o2 site, So i rang Data Support and was told the rom is ready and has been for a while, The problem is the people who update the o2 Site are now saying another week befor they can add the downloadable upgraded rom file.
I tried every option including begging for the upgrade but to no avail
We also larphed about a week to update a web site, so i think this means there is no real idea of when we will see th latest rom

The o2 XDAII website also has the update now...I've downloaded it this evening.
Anthony
So does the update fix the Bluetooth issues of not being able to send files and phonebook contacts ?
So Who produces the Updates etc
So who produces the images? I thought the ones on the i-mate site were well ahead of the rest (currently 1.52.00wwe), but now O2 have 1.6.
Yes the extended rom is different and not comarable, but are the main ROM versions - are they all the same??
And not to hijack the origional questions.. Does anyone know what (if any) bluetooth issues are fixed in the O2 release??
Thanks,
Ian

I just upgraded mine, it took about 90 minutes to do, and the bluetooth appears to be exactly the same. I can send files to and from my pc, but not to my mobile phone. However it would seem my T610 isnt compatible with the XDA2, but other phones are ( and hopefully all future mobile phones and Bluetooth devices ).
Theres still no proper profiles such as OBEX to allow it to be compatible with all devices.
Don't bother with this ROM upgrade if you are seeking a solution to the headset/handsfree issue.
It doesn't fix anything. It makes it worse.
Bad piece of code - keep away - save your energy.
I updated from http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i_soft2.html but didn't get the new radio version, and got the .169 rom version that is supposedly so bad.
Sooooo ummmm......What do you think is going on?
Is anyone else chaseing this, because due to major family problems I just don't have time at the moment! I can't afford to re-flash my Xda again, it can't be out of action!
**Edit - I did this yesterday. They could have fixed it since.
Not you going wrong, O2 have withdrawn the 1.11.170 ROM because of the connection and stability issues mentioned elsewhere on this site.
If you want stability and don't use Blackberry, use the ROM I made that can be found on this site. Have a look in the few recent threads here and you will find them.
Sorry to hear about your problems, hope they're sorted soon for the better.
Take care of yourself,
PUG.
I had got confused. I'll try it after christmas, once things have settled down. I'll just have to put up with no bluetooth for now
Will my warrenty/insurance be valid if I use an unoffical ROM?
Officially yes but there's always way around that.
O2 do state that only ROMs released by themselves are supported but those of us who have customised their 2i's know that most of the problems with the 2i are down to O2's software in the extended ROM causing the problems.
More often than not, most companies like that will not worry about what ROM is on the phone so long as it was released officially by a company for an Alpine device and it's not a cooked WM5 when it's never been released if you know what I mean.
Anyway, good luck and Merry Christmas.
Pug
I must say that after the last rom upgrade (69) was released and I had problems with it, o2 data support actually recomended that I install the rom from this site!! So that should tell us all something, should it not!?!?!?
Rom Updates...
Pug is spot on - .169 caused my BT headset to play up no end, but rather than re-flash to the vanilla .162 rom, I used Pug's with the 1.04 radio. This is the best of the available 02 roms, imho. BT fine, and the radio upgrade improves signal strength and clarity - nice one, Pug! BTW I also downgraded Caller ID, which solved my GPRS connection issues, and fitted a bigger battery. I am now happy to use my Alpine as my only phone, which was the plan in the first place...
Merry Xmas all

Then they say to people that to do so would invalidate their warranties. I just shout at them and tell them exactly what I want them to do for me, that sorted my last problem, didn't give them chance to read the script that said "hard reset". Wish they'd all sing from the same hymn sheet. Still, you pay peanuts you get monkies don't you.......
I actully got o2data support to send me a copy of 162 rom on a disk as they did not have it on their website, so I can always reflash back to that if I need to send the xda in for repair during it's warrenty. Thinking about it, is it worth me putting this (162) rom on the ftp site so anyone can reflash with it?
Please do, I am about to get a 2i and I plan to experiment as soon as I get it but I would like the .162 ROM to fall back on as it seems to be the most stable official release,
Thanks
Sorry it has taken a couple of days (but it is xmas   ) but I have put the 1.11.162 official o2 rom on the ftp site (ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Alpine/) I have uplaoded a .rar and the .exe versions hope they may be of some use to you.

I updated from this file aswell, and my Radio downgraded(?) to 1.00!
Not only this, but I applied the TomTom 5.21 upgrade at the same time, and TomTom stopped working - well, it started to lose the gps connection when i had the speaker cable for my GPS cradle plugged in and TomTom emitted a sound!
I reinstalled TomTom back to 5.1, and still got the problem, so I hard reset the XDA - same problem still!
I have now installed the .162 ExtRom with 1.04 Radio, and this seems to have solved the problem as far as TomTom is concerned, even with the latest 5.21 update. The real test will be tomorrow when I take her indoors to work in the morning, as so far (due to the snow!) I have only tested TomTom sat stationary outside the house!
Getting back to the point, though, I think I will be giving the .169 ExtRom a miss from now on!
UPDATE : I've finally gotten out and about in the car, and Installing the .162 ExtRom has solved my TTN5 problem
I have O2 Exec which I flashed months ago with the i-mate Jasjar rom.
I hope i-mate won't forget JJ users like they always do forget their customers after about two rom upgrades. They did that with the i-mate PDA2K which I was one of the first to purchase only to leave us with numerous bugs and only one or two rom updates.
I am wondering if there's a newer ROM than what I have
ROM version: 1.30.76 WWE
ROM date: 02/20/06
Radio version: 1.09.00
Protocol version: 42.42.P8
Still got pretty annoying issues with the machine (same i did with the PDA2k).
Sometimes won't connect to UMTS/GPRS - soft reset needed.
Sometimes won't dial phone numbers i always dial - says 'can't complete the command' or some similar ****.
Sometimes will look for the network endlessly. at times I see i don't get calls and check only to see that the machine was 'searching' for network for hours.
Sometimes machine won't wake up to alerts. It's only when I get a phone call that it awakes it and then i hear all the alarms.
These are all stuff making the machine a nice game, but not something sturdy and reliable you can count on. I new each ROM is usually better and was wondering if there's anything better that I already have.
Thanks guys.
go get Dopod 1.30 or Qtek 1.30 that will be better for you
The latest one is T-Mobile NL ROM 130.115. the second latest is T-Mobile UK Rom 130.114... Third Latest is Dopod WWE Rom 130.111. Forth is Xda Exec Rom 130.107... Fifth Latest is VodaPhone WWE 130.97... Qtek is 6th with 130.77 and I-mate is 7th with 130.76
Has anyone heard if I-mate is going to release a new ROM with A2DP?
I know we can hack/install other ROMs with A2DP, but before I go through the hassle of an update (re-entering all of my data service & e-mail settings, and then re-installing software), I was wondering if a new official I-mate ROM is immanent???
Anyone know what's happening with this? Dopod seems to have released GPS roms for every other area.
thanks
got an email back from them tuesday- they are currently testing the new WM6/GPS ROM. Just waiting for phone companies to give it the all ok.
hopefully within a few weeks.
Can you post a copy of the email your receive from them ?
Here is what I recieved a few days ago
Dopod is planning to release a new rom code for the D810 within the next 2 months pending approval from Optus, 3 Mobile & Vodafone.
The New Rom Code with allow existing D810 users to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 operating system and it will also enable the D810 embedded GPS Antenna feature.
Once a user upgrades their D810 to the WS6 rom code all they need do is purchase Mapping software like – Co-pilot, Route 66 etc and install it into their device and they will be able to enjoy GPS navigation on the D810.
Note – A D810 with the new GPS rom code does not need an extenal antenna – the antenna is inbuilt.
The upgrade is planned to be available on the Dopod ANZ website pages at no charge to D810 customers.
We are also planning to release new models later this year and there will be a different version of the D810 made available for Mobile Operators Optus, 3 Mobile & Vodafone to offer.
We have not formally released any details of the changes to market other than there are some increases in the devices memory size and improvement to the CPU speed.
To date no Mobile Operator has decided to range or support.

you can disable the asian default on it and its ok for the rest of the world
jeakins, I have heard from some sites that if you use that rom we in australia get bad reception.
I'm with optus, what about u? any problems with yours?
dopod rom
to viperx
i have been using it for while now and ist the best rom i have ever seen and never had any problem with it , it solved most of problems, try it . the only alteration you have to do is remove the message comes in the beggining regarding the net work which only gives you set up for asia , just close it and it never comes back again , also you have to set it up manually for mms and internet.
Hi,
I have been using the ROM with GPS on Optus, and had no issues, reasonable GSM/3G reception, and GPS works with TomTom 6.
I have noticed the Optus Zoo wep pages don't work (but I never use them anyway). All other wep/web sites work fine via Optus internet or via the built in WiFi.
Regards
im using the latest trinity rom with gps and tomtom..
sometime it locks up.
i really need wm6
