Bixby Voice - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I got my S8 today and everything seems to be working fine. Issue is however Bixby voice isn't working. I can swipe right to see the Bixby cards and also Bixby vision seems to be working(In camera app) but thats about it. No voice. Can anyone please confirm if they are having issues?
My device is from Claro Americas (http://www.claro.com.br/) and I got the unlocked code from them and using on Warid Telcom now.
ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Bixby sends command to Samsung servers to process. Maybe the servers arent completely up and running until the S8 goes on general sale. I would do a packet sniff on the network traffic from and to your S8 and see what the server responses are

Thanks. The Samsung servers are running as I'm logged into my Samsung account and can see the apps etc. (unless you're talking about something else)

There will be hundreds or thousands of servers managing different products so the one u log in to for your account will be different than the ones used to process the bixby queries. Those ones might still be offline. My reasoning for this is that the S8 system dump had bixby which people installed on S7 and they have same issue. They reported the servers are not responding so they might have them powered down until full S8 release. Running servers costs money after all.

What language is your device set to? I think Bixby (voice) only works for US-English and Korean.

Seems logical.

From my experience with Samsung in the past they do not open servers for certain thing until the devices are fully functional and shipped to users. Wait for around 7-10 days and it should activate. If not call their support. DO NOT call support now.

I think it's time that these two threads meet. ?

Bixby will only support Korean voices at launch and it says US English supported by end of spring. Not sure what it means for us UK English who invented the bloody language!

[Q] Difference between S-voice and Google Now

Sorry if this is the wrong place but:
What's the difference between the S-Voice from the S4 and Google Now?
I watched sum comparison videos on youtube, but they seem a little bit inaccurate. For example, it said that "google voice" can't open apps, but it can on my Nexus 4.
S voice is Samsung's own personal assistant developed for Galaxy devices . I guess it has been used in GS3, Note 2 and GS4 as well.
Google Now is vast new concept started by Google. It's more than just a personal assistant. It's like improved version of Google Voice..
for ex. if you are entering any highway, GN will warn about traffic
you are entering into a tube station, GN will alert you about the next trains lined up..
Google voice can certainly open apps.
Google now is better .S voice sucks that's the difference. Half the time s voice doesn't function right or gets s##t wrong that you ask for.

S-Voice is like another apps on Samsung Device that begins with "S", and i prefer to put S as Silly except Samsung
Silly apps that u can find all of them for free in play store but samsung preinstall them on galaxies device!!! on Android OS that it has its own preinstalled apps......................!
of course Google Now is better.
Ok, this is turning into a fanboys sort of thread.
Back to the OPs question:
Essentially, theyre the same thing. Its like iOS' Siri versus Google Now, theyre both designed to do the same things but by different companies
And S-Voice is part of a proprietary framework called Touchwiz, so it can only be installed on devices running a Touchwiz ROM. Google now on the other hand, relies on no underlying framework and so could be installed on any Android device, as long as the Android version supports it
thx for the reply. The reason i ask this question is i installed S Voice on my Nexus 4 from here: http://www.sammobile.com/2013/03/26/samsung-galaxy-s-4s-s-voice-apk-now-available-to-download/
Is there any reason to have both? I just downloaded it for fun.
With further testing, it seems like the Google now can't open sum apps. Such as PPSSPP, CloudOn, Office Suite, and GTA Vice City. While S voice.apk from the S4 can do this and can do stuff like "turn off wifi" and "turn on bluetooth".

Not really, just use whichever is best for what you do, no point in really having 2 of the same sort of utility app
And obviously one will have more features than the other, it just depends on which features are most important to the user
Question, did the s-voice install properly and isnt giving you any force close issues? Strange because I was sure it would rely on the Touchwiz framework

I used it for a day then got the network connection error also. Samsung (actually Vlingo/Nuance) reads the incoming device ID and blocks the connection if it's a mismatch with the device ID the app's intended to work with. Same thing happened when people were using bootleg copies of the SGS3's S Voice APK before it was released.
As for S Voice vs. Google Now I use S Voice more. To send a text message for example, Google Now opens up the recipient from the address book but you can't dictate the message, at least not from within Google Now. Same thing with e-mail. Dialing's also kind of clunky where if there are multiple options for your request you have to pick one manually. S Voice also repeats the number back before dialing where Google Now just dials and can miss digits you dictate pretty easily. Using a BT headset you can pretty much completely accomplish things hands free with S Voice while quite a few require a second manual action with Google Now.
Here are some examples
If you're in an app like the browser you also can't get Google Now to launch from the menu key because it's now serving the open application and doesn't recognize the "long press" command to open Google Now. Some people have disabled S Voice and remapped the home key to either Google Search or Voice Dialer. S Voice allows you to post to FB and Twitter too. Also, a lot of Google Now's neatest features (flight departure, package shipping, etc.) require you to use Gmail because Google's servers scrape your messages looking for pertinent data. I don't use Gmail and don't like the idea of Google's servers searching my data, even with my permission so to anyone not exclusively on Gmail certain feature don't mean very much.
Voice controls are also tied to S Voice. I use them pretty frequently; especially with the camera, music player, and to launch apps from the lock screen by voice.
I played with Google Now for a short time when I got my N2 so if it's improved or I'm being too hard on it someone speak up.

It's being blocked because the device ID from the APK you downloaded doesn't match the device ID the server's reading from the actual device.
I love Samsung devices but I can't stand S voice. Unless there has been MAJOR improvement over the S3's/Note2 S voice I will still dislike it. First thing I do when I set up my Galaxy phones is disable it and get rid of the home button delay.
I think google now is better, faster, much more accurate and much more unique ( S voice is a clear copy of Siri).

It's possible IMS Settings could have that purpose, I've seen mention of it in regard to some T-Mobile devices however IMSLogger+ has no known function whatsoever, it's simply an app called logger that has access to everything you do and everything your id does in relation to your device. As far as I can tell there is absolutely no cost in disabling this application so until someone can identify a function that requires this to be enabled, it's simply common sense to do so.
Further, and I have no idea if it's relevant or not, but even it's naming convention is different from the other associated applications:
com.sec.ims 1.0
IMS Service 1.0
IMS Settings 1.0
com.sec.imslogger 1.20150211_LDM
I understand I'm offering an incomplete picture here, but our corporate 'benefactors' have a long history of being as shady as they possibly can be until they are caught and then they just try something else... Our data is a commodity resource to these people so they'll do what they can to acquire it.
In the end it's a question of trust. I don't, so I uninstalled it, but I wanted to pass on the information should anyone else want to do the same.
Another NSA feature for the American fellows.

If your country or carrier doesn't have VoLTE then you won't have it enabled on your phone, that's why you can't find it.
EDIT:
You can check here if your carrier has it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoLTE#Deployment
So far it's only launched in Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, and USA. But even in those countries, only a few carriers have it.
Good old NSA must have had something worked out with Samsung. I bought mine in Hung Coc* as well and it too came with this IMSlogger as well that has and asks for every permission you never even thought about. No uninstall option either.
Every permission possible has been ticked by developer.

Silent Logging is not turned on by default that's why it's safe to disable.
From the looks of it, it logs diagnostic info from the cell modem. I think it's only ever used for diagnostic purposes though and is not ever turned on normally. You can enable in Service Mode or if you set system property dev.silentlog.on set to "on".
If you don't have any of the log files at:
Code:
/data/log/Slog_ril_xxxxx.log
/data/log/Slog_main_xxxxx.log (where xxxxx is the time the log got saved)
Or the config file at:
Code:
/data/slog/SilentLog
...then you don't have Silent Logging running.
As for IMSLogger, it doesn't look nefarious. It is for VoLTE though, so has anyone tried if VoLTE still work when you have IMSLogger disabled/deleted. Mind you, VoIP or Skype or any other IP/SIP over wifi or LTE is NOT VoLTE (VoLTE is specifically optimised for voice using IMS whereas none of the others are). So to test, make sure you are actually using VoLTE (and that you have it enabled in your carrier plan) and not some other VoIP solution.
It's LMS Logger
And it stands for LetMeSpy I found it on my phone as well
IMSLogger+ is used by Samsung engineers to get the processor logs and interfaces logs from the phone for debugging purposes. In Engineering firmwares it can export the IP traces in PCAP format and it has a nice interface to see all the VoLTE/SIP messages in real time. Basically it can log all the calls signalization, excluding the voice packets.
It's launched from the IMS Settings application that is used to customize VoLTE/VoWIFI/RCS parameters for each operator.
By default the IMSLogger+ doesn't log anything, Below you have a movie done from my rooted Samsung S6 Edge G925F that shows how to launch the application. I'm sure IMSLogger+ can be disabled without any impact to VoLTE. Maybe Samsung should have done it from the very beginning.

The one on official firmware will not install correctly. But this is an older one that works. Download and install like normal.

Thanks again seems to be working
Once you set up, it may take a while to actually activate. I just left the app, came back to it 5-10 min later, and it was running normally.
Ya took me almost an hr. Worked well though. Downloaded many that didn't work. Just needed 1 that did.
It doesn't appear to actually work. You all just think it is.
If you leave a vm it wont download it (or mine doesn't seem to).
If you go into settings and pref, it shows it's not verified still also. You just stopped seeing the prompt because once the screen times out it is no longer on top but if you fully kill the app and re-open it still says verifying.
These are my findings at least? If you go into settings and pref does it say you're verified?

Are you sure?
I've got the same issues all the others did. It can't activate. Just because it stops popping it up doesn't mean it's activated now either. That message suppresses after a while.
It seems to tie into something that it and Sprint Zone use from what I can tell and thus why won't work on these non-branded firmwares.
Leave yourself a VM and see if it shows up...
It usually wouldn't go past the account verification at all. I'm not 100 %sure yet. But it did go farther than before and I'm trying it out now to verify. Will get back
If you press home and go back into it the app will hide the message but it still wont work.
I actually found the outbound activation messages in it that are failing to send even.
So this is another bust.
I think our best luck is if someone can either reverse eng. this thing to modify it to not try to use whatever sprint bloat it's looking for or we find what it's looking for and find a way to put it on our phones.
Sadly it's not a new issue. All the Nexus people have had the issue from day 1. And it seems to be only sprint because they won't make a darn public compatible app.
I can't use GVoice as I already use it for a second number and I don't like any of the third party ones that make you use conditional call forwarding to them to do this...
Another question for you all. I've noticed if NO voicemail app is installed I do not get any notification I have voicemails. If I do install one (despite it not working) I get notified because it says pending voicemail download at least.
With no VM App installed are your phones telling you that you got VM?
Yeah same boat here man. Looks like we beating a dead horse
Yea, Sprint should upload visual voicemail to the Play Store like T-Mobile does. So stupid.

Anyone figure out how to change County/Region?

Just got my M3 from China because I wanted to get an LTE version, which is not available in the US.
I have set language to English, and set time zone to Pacific, but the tablet still thinks it is in China. Websites that are multi-lingual show Chinese characters, when I try to create a Huawei Id it says "County/Region: China" at the top.
Any idea how to change this? Seems like a nice tablet so far, and the LTE is nice (Google Fi), but I am not sure I am going to take the time to learn Chinese just to use it.
Thanks!

I deleted or deactivated all Chinese applications. I manually installed Google Play. Installed its applications, including Google Chrome, keyboard, etc., and I only stayed at Hivoices Chinese characters. I have adjusted the default application to mine.
Thanks! I wound up doing the same thing. Was just hoping there was a way to tell the tablet where it really lives. Reminds me of the old DVD region days...
One related note, on HiVoice... I was playing around and got to the place where you can use your voice to wake up the tablet. It wants me to say something 3 times as my "wake up" word, but no matter what I try I cannot seem to get it to accept anything I say. It is telling me, in Chinese, what I should say -- and clearly I am not following directions well. Were you able to get the voice wake up to work, and if so - what was the trick?
Ditto re PlayStore, Google Launcher, Calender etc
If you change language to English US first, then option for USA should be available. Australia as country was available after changing language to English(UK) on my M3.

Same. Seems to work pretty well, based on my limited usage (admittedly in a relatively quiet office, which surely helps). Not sure I'll get much usage out of it in the long run, but it's fun to play around with.
