Voice Dialer HF

Hi
Has anyone tried this app on the Desire.
Voice Dialer HF
It works on the Nexus One (although you still need to touch the screen as there is no camera button).
My Nexus One has no camera button. How do I start VDHF?
Today, VDHF on the Nexus One may only be started via the icon, since the Nexus One has neither a camera nor a send button. As soon as Google releases an OTA update that activates the Bluetooth "voice activation" feature, we will add support.
It's the closest thing to proper bluetooth voice dialing available at the moment, and since my phone is due to arrive early next week I would be interested if anyone has used this app or will now try it if they didn't know it existed.

Is the inibility to download beacuse of the restrictions that are seemingly on the Desire at the moment or is there another reason?

For this issue, you can try button shortcut in the market! you will love that I think ;-)

Anyone on this app.
Is it a copy protected app or is it just not downloadable because it's not compatable. I haven't received my phone yet, and to be honest I am beginning to think I was too hasty in ordering it.

I've spoken with the developer and the UK sales of his prodcut is suspended because initial voice recognition results with the product were not good. However when I get my phone he isprepared to let me try. I get the impression that it is tweakable. For me, a product like this is the difference between keeping the phone when it arrives, or returning it.

You should try Choice Dialer. I got it from the market on my Desire. There's a free version which will voice dial. There is also a paid version which lets you play an album or playlist by voice. Works well but still no bluetooth control as no voice activation seems to work by bluetooth. Other problem I had was that I could not choose a single song track by voice as I seem to have too many. Tony, the developer, has not yet yet been able to resolve this for me. Voice dialling isn't perfect but pretty good for me. You must speak clearly though.

Choice dialer works fine as long as you set it up to work only as a phone voice dialer.
If you enable also the voice apps it often gets confused.
I have used it only one day but it seems like it can deliver also via BT headset.
fingers are still crossed but so far so good...

Well my experience after 1 hour is quite different.
I have 600 contacts, most with just a mobile number, but some with mob/Home and some with mob/home/work. I would say sucess rate is about 5% at the moment.

'The application choice dialer free (process com.resounding.choicedialer.free) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.' more often than I get a correct call made. Okay Android OS is new for me, so it's unfair to judge, but this is awful compared to MS Voice Command.

I tried it.
It wouldn't undertand me at all!
Also after dialling it went off and I had to press the phone button to select it again for it to start listening again.
If I have to do that I might as weel just use speed dial..
Maybe I am using it wrong??

Choice Dialler Works fine for me even with a slight Welsh accent. Speak slow and it also picks up on contacts mobile, home or work number.

Google Voice Actions, not to be confused with “Google Voice” Actions, improves tremendously on Android voice commands, which to say the least, were near non-existent. You were pretty much just limited to doing a google search or inputting text in a text box. Not anymore, with Google Voice Actions, you’ll be able to issue a plethora of commands to your Android phone. I have to say, this is WAY better than on the iPhone.

I was amazed and bewildered by how HORRIBLE the HTC voice command was in the beginning, especially considering how great google voice search worked.
I've been using the new one a lot the last few days and I am equally amazed by how GREAT the new version works!

Just remember that you have to be connected to the internet in order for the voice commands to work, they use the google voice servers. While they are fast as hell and work amazingly fast even over a 1x connection, if you have no network, you have no google voice actions.

Ah, the Achilles heel of Google's voice interaction. Though I have to say, there are very few times when I am out of signal, so I guess going forward, its not going to be so bad. What really sucks is there are a lot of great apps that don't work out of service, like Google Sky Map.

Completely agree. In the next couple of years, carriers are really gonna have to kick it up a notch in fast network coverage, otherwise they're just going to hold back development.
On that note, poor, poor T-Mobile users. They're cross country coverage suckssss

I've d/l the app and while I agree its a step up form previous voice search options, I'm not liking the fact that "listen to" doesn't seem to point to any other program besides Pandora (Pandora's sound quality can't compete with my collection on the SD card of the phone).. has anyone figured out a way to change what program Google voice uses to play music when you select "listen to:"?

Where do you get this? On im the .6 rooted, but when I try any of the new commands I get nothing. I tried searching the market to see if I was missing something, and didnt find anything.
What am I missing?
ETA: Dang. Found what I was looking for. Voice Search from the Market (for those who are wondering as well.)

Google search update

I just read a news article saying that the new Google search update is supposed to allow us to use the "ok Google" hotword from any screen, including the lock screen. I downloaded the apk, but can't get it to do anything different on my Verizon s5. Has anyone else gotten this to work? Does it require the phones to not be rooted, maybe?

It doesn't work for us yet. I did all the steps as well but unless it is pushed for your device it's a no go

I thought it was supposed to work with all phones. Too bad, I would have liked the lock screen functionality.

According to AP, it's being rolled out by account. So we wait.

They may have only realized that after the article was written and the .apk was offered. There may be other subtle things that have been improved, speed for example. I think one of the comments mention that the acknowledgement "ding" is different.

if its the one in the new android L then my rom should have it.. ill hafta check tho.. i kno i added the android l launcher and velvet.apk from android l to my rom..

Other things do seem to be subtle and to work, just not the 'OK,Google' detection from any screen. When you go in to set it up, you have to say that phrase three times so it recognizes your voice. However, it never registers so you have to back out of that screen.

Any update on this? I just received the Google search update and it doesn't allow the ok Google voice command on any the screens. I still have to open the app to use the voice setting

I got it today too. This always happens to me, I download an .apk from Android Police and usually a short time later Google Play will tell me I have an update for the same version number. So, my thought is that nothing has really changed and we are still waiting for Google as they roll the function out by account as mentioned in the article.

I don't know if I was late seeing this, but the search from any screen feature is available in my Google search settings now.

Just a PSA for all you guys. If you go into the google search settings, tap voice, enable audio history, then set up the OK google training, there's an option for having it listen when the screen is off.
This basically works by using s voice to set up the OK google command, then instead of launching s voice when the command is heard, it launches google now. It works pretty seamlessly and (as far as I can tell) as good as the Moto X.

thats great news! I really enjoy using that with Nova on my M8, and was hoping it would work on the Note 4.

You mean nova launcher? Or is this something that I don't know about? The Note 4 does this like the Moto X with that extra "chip" in the processor.

No different. It's just like the Moto X in that it uses a separate low power core to listen for that command.

yeah, nova launcher enables that on the M8, and I really got used to using it!

Not true, I'm noticing my phone won't go into deep sleep with it on.

It does work with OK Google.
But if you use a custom phrase, that works to wake up the phone but doesn't work on the home screen.
So there you still have to say OK Google.

It might be another app that's doing that. The 805 chip has a dedicated always listening chip. The entire point is for it to not affect the battery. Use it the entire day and see if you really get any worse battery life than with it off. I can assure you you won't.

Not OK Google
I can't get my voice training to work. When I get to the screen where it prompts me to say "OK Google" 4 times to train it, after I press the Mic button it never registers my voice... just sits there at 0/4 attempts. I have rebooted, etc.
Any ideas?

Have you by chance disabled the s-voice app?

when the screen is off and i say ok google, the sound pop up but the screen stay off and it doesn't search. when i turned on the screen it just say (say ok google or tap mic)

THANK YOU! I went into the S-Voice settings (because I had done nothing with it since getting the phone) and first went through all the configuration of S-Voice. Left that app, went back into it and turned all of the S-Voice features off, and then went back to the Google Search settings and into the Voice portion. I then was able to train OK Google the required 4 times. It now works great. Uttering an "OK Google" with the screen off (and locked) will invoke it. Works just like I have wanted it to ever since I saw the feature on the Moto X and was always frustrated I couldn't have it on a better phone!

So guys your saying that ok google depends on svoice still? In other words of you freeze svoice with titanium backup, "Ok Google" command will not work with the screen off? Can someone check please?

No root, no need to download or install anything.
This work for other devices as well as the Note 4. This enables the Google now "Ok Google" Feature where you can active Google now while the screen is off. This is something like the Moto X feature.
How To:
1) Open Google Now
2) Go to Google Now Settings
3) Click on "Voice"
4) Enable "Audio History"
5) Click "Ok Google Detection"
6)Click "Always on" and follow the remaining directions.
You Can also watch this How To Video if you want:
If you device is unsupported or it just wont work, then there is an app called "Open Mic+ for Google Now" which does this for you.
This also works on the Lg G3, Nexus 5, and Galaxy S5, from what I know. Please feel free to try other devices and let me know if they work as well.

works with text and calling. You have to allow Google to store and access your contacts in order to do it.

Does anyone have any idea as to whether or not you'll be able to change the trigger words to something else? "Okay, google" feels kind of clumsy haha.

"when am i" is also a good one, and i think "ok jarvis" might still work too.
anyone try s-voice with the screen off? or am i one of the only ones that still likes s-voice? on the note 3 it was beautiful, before google's screen off voice recognition came about. on the s4 it's worthless. hoping they might revamp it, but hey, who knows.

I believe you can set it to ""ok jarvis" instead of okay google.

Tested and it works. "Ok Jarvis" is now my go to command.

closest i could get was a hot british chick. but i'm sure that with root we could probably load the voice synthesis data in place of the stock one. (for the hot british chick, open google now, go to settings, then voice, then choose the different version of english.)

Seems like a cool feature that I'll probably try.. but does anyone else feel creeped out by Google listening to you all the time?

Yes I do find it creepy. I also found that Google Now doesn't search what I want, maybe that's just me.
It seems I get best results by simple opening Google search and entering one or two words on my topic of interest.
I also do not like that Now is trying to decide what I like or what I would think relevant. Again that's just me.
I turned it off completely. Each to his own!

Google, FBI, Your Mom, Laptop, Tablet, Desktop, Gaming System, Handheld Gaming System. Any one of these can be listening in on you at any time, but why would they? Are you a drug lord? Hahah Jokes.

For some reason, I can't get it to recognize anything except "ok google". Tried ok jarvis, and many others. Any trick to getting a different command to work?

I've never really figured out if people think that actual people are "listening" to what we say or "reading" our texts and email.
Nobody is. It's all code. . It's not stored and read by others later, it's not information used by human beings. It's simply information used as variables for function calls in the code. The audio the mic picks up is fed into a stack of information blocks in a first in last out method. Each sample in the stack is analyzed, not by words spoken but by the signal analysis of the detected noises. All of the noises are converted to a spectrum via Fourier analysis and then any pattern that matches the expected pattern will trigger the interrupt condition needed to turn the phone on. "Okay jarvis" has a frequency domain spectrum very similar to "okay google", thats why it works too. Any noise the mic picks up that does not match the expected pattern of noises are simply lost.
A similar process is used for email and text parsing. I know this stuff can seem scary and dubious but it's really just basic computing. Everything is converted to 1s and 0s. It's easy to let our imaginations run wild when we don't understand how something works. Imagine turning on a lighter or using a flashlight a few thousand years ago. Those things would be magical, and most likely destroyed on the spot along with the "demon" that had them.

On a side note, if you disable S Voice, this will NOT work. Also, even if you have lock password or fingerprint it will still work.

Yes, I found out the same after disabling S Voice. I have been able to wake the phone up with an "OK, Google" though I must say it hasn't worked consistently.
