Is it a good idea to buy a G2 in 2016? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I was thinking of buying a G2 for myself. Do you think it is a good idea considering that it is 2016?! Is it a fast phone? To give you an idea of "fast", I checked my friends Nexus 5 and if the G2 is as quick as that, I am more than satisfied. Also, looks like Android 5.1 is not coming to G2 anymore, so in case I buy it, do you recommend upgrading to 5.0.2 or I just stick to 4.4.4?
Thanks everybody!

well ,I still use g2 ,right now with cloudyg2 3.3 and is amazing, new interface and etc ,blazing fast (no bugs at all,at least for me ) and i'm gonna stick with it till july -aug and I will buy g4/g5

Thanks alecore! Although I am not familiar with the CloudyG2, but I assume it is a custom ROM. What about the original (stock?) ROM? What if I keep the original software? Do you have any idea how fast is the G2 with that one?

this question depends on how much you planning to spend on a new G2 ! still G2 is a great option but it will not support marshmallow or may be it won't even get the 5.1 . and Cloudy support is dead as developer is no longer supporting it . but I've heard lots of good things about the new CheloZTeam rom..

I guess I can buy it for $150. Do you know f the 5.0.2 version is worth upgrading to? I heard it is buggy for some people and reduces the battery life drastically.

I noticed battery life was mediocre in 5.0.2 compared to 4.4.2, including stand-by time. but if you flash a stable aosp rom like aicp, mokee, you'll get amazing battery life compared to stock 5.0.2.

been on stock for 1 year and half ,KitKat was awesome ,and when lollipop came out it was even more awesome (because of new interface/customization/etc)and I had no problems at all ,no lag ,no restarts or something else ,meanwhile I decided to change the look a little more (got bored of lollipop and waiting for 5.1.1 or marshmallow it was endless) and I went to root the phone for cloudyg2 ,because I didn't wanted to change the phone ,there's no point ,unless you want to go for a phone from 2015 to.
EDIT : and about battery,i had 1 day and few hours with medium use (4-5 hours per day) and for a easy use (1-2h/3h per day) almost 3-4 days

Thanks appsmarsterx and alecore! I think I would stick to KitKat if I buy it. I am yet to decide Do you guys know if I can use the D801 model in europe? Here are the frequencies for it:
LG G2 D801:
2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900
3G: UMTS 1700/2100 (B4), UMTS 1900 (B2), UMTS2100 (B1)
4G: LTE 700 (B17), LTE 1700/2100 (B4), LTE 1900 (B2)
Surprisingly, I can buy D801 much cheaper than D802!

Think about some Chinese phones for that money, you can have meizu or xiaomi, they will be supported for some time. G2 is nice phone and it surpasses those phones in benchmarks but support is dead.

I thought about that. But my experience with some Lenovo phones was that they perform much lower than their spec on paper! I don't know why.

Official support may be at an end but we still have CM based ROMs including MM.

I think the comparison is HTC M8 which will have marshmallow and better speakers, vs the G2 which will have a better camera. Either one at $150 or less is probably pretty good

as far as I know most of the Europe, Asian mobile isps use lte band 3 (1800mhz).. if your mobile isp is also using lte band 3, you won't be able to use 4g with d801. (but 3g/hspa+ should work fine. )
make sure you contact your mobile isp and get informed about the lte frequently that they're using..

no i woudlnt suggest you to get this one in 2016, the camera quality has considerably improved now a days in smartphones and since this is a 2013 manufactured smartphones, its aged enough, id suggest a nexus 6 ull get a 32gb for a similar price and youll be sure to get updates for the next 2-3 years (official/unofficial ) whats more important is android version, as we can see, feature set will be reduced anyways with aosp roms on the g2, might as well get a nexus 6 if youve got the money get the 6p , totally worth it

You are right about the updates and also I am a fan of pure android which is available on Nexus devices, however, right now the Nexus 6 is out of my budget, and the 5 has a weaker battery and camera than the G2.

BTW guys, I was thinking f sticking to KitKat if I buy it. but now that I have seen some reviews, looks like lollipop is closer to what I want the G2 to be. especially changing the recent apps button from long pressing home button to a dedicated button. Is android 5 buggy on G2?
@alecore: You said you had 5 on your G2 for a while. Was it performing well? In terms of speed and especially battery life I mean.

Recently my G2's display shattered. The cost of new display was close to that of phone itself. So I ordered D801 from eBay and kept my broken G2 aside. I have been suggesting my friends to go with G2 if they are looking for a budget phone. In comparison to Moto G 3rd Gen, G2 is available for lesser cost. It's a worthy investment. I am using it on Kitkat and had no issues. Battery and camera can still challenge today's mid-range smartphones so I highly recommend going with G2.

Battery it depends, on kernel and settings, i get SOT just whats app a few pics taken. like the most ive got it its 7hours and 32 mins. agressavely debloated. stock rom. on the g4 4uix i get 7 hours or nearly seven hours of screen on time.
jus just need to managed and clear recents and cache. and itll be fine. but on kernel settings i have intellimn governor. work queue. realxed memory ram setting. those gives more battery but suffers performance. but am on with it.

LG F320s vs D802

Man I hate it when companies release so many different model names for the same phone, just makes everything confusing.
Anyways I can buy the D802 or the F320s.
As far as I can tell the F320s has LTE-A which I don't care about since we don't have that here yet, and from a review I saw on youtube a removable back cover and battery. Does this mean it has an SD card slot as well?
As far as I can tell the D802 is the same as the At&T LG G2 or Verizon I am not sure, but unbranded.
Is there any downside to going with the one with removable battery over non-removable? I heard one performs better in terms of battery life is this true?
I'm pretty sure all Korean versions (F320X) have a removable battery (2610 mAh) and expandable storage. US versions have non-removable battery (3000 mAh) but no sd card slot.

F320S might not work with your Teleco(at&t and verizon) thus you will only be able to get 3g speed instead however the korean variant has an extra but smaller battery @2610mAH and a extra desktop charger with the removable micro sd card. If LTE which is a must then go with the D802

I'm not located in the US. I double checked the supported bands and it supports our lte frequency thankfully but I am kinda sad that the batter is smaller. I couldn't find the d802 anywhere online.

Does the D802 have a recovery?
Yeah the Korean version has a removable 2610 mAh battery and SD card. But the international version (everyone outside of Korea) has pretty much the same 3000 mah non removable battery and no SD. From what I've seen only big red (Verizon) felt the need to add their input to the design on their network. To answer the battery question the 3000 mAh would last longer because it's bigger but the removable battery is nice because if your phone dies you can just pop in a new battery but honestly with the 3000 mAh battery I can go about a day and a half with heavy use.

My OTA wasn't working, so I used the zips in the General Development section, with TWRP. Worked great. Has there been another update since late Dec.?
I love having a removable battery and sd card, LTE was just icing on the cake.

LG G2 - Hardware Query - Display Unit F320s VS D802
Hi,
I have a LG G2 F320S the Korean Version with a semi working touch screen digitizer.
The phone was exposed to direct sunlight for a long time and I think that might have caused the issue.
Q - Does the Display Unit of LG G2 D802 (The Indian/International Version) fits the LG G2 F320s (The Korean LTE A version)?
Thanx in advance.
Cheers.

[Q] Trading Nexus 5 for G2 - a few questions (especially for T-Mobile users)

We just switched from Verizon to T-Mobile prepaid, and I picked up the Nexus 5. I'm looking at trading it with a guy for a T-Mobile LG G2 and have a couple of questions for the G2 users out there, especially on T-Mobile:
Will the T-Mobile G2 work on AT&T? Since we're prepaid, I'd like to have options if T-Mobile's prepaid network sucks. I guess the question is how unlocked or unlockable is it? Or is it limited to just T-Mobile's frequencies?
G2 Users with Kids - how is the camera in day to day usage? I know it *can* take great shots in multiple scenarios, but how is it with the kiddos? Is it a good experience? Frustrating at times? My main frustration with the Nexus 5's camera is the slow shutter, because it tends to blur simple shots of my kids faces if they happen to move a little... So I'm curious about those scenarios.
TIA for any info!

The T-Mobile varient (D801) will need to be unlocked to work on other carriers.
I actually cancelled my Nexus 5 order and ordered an LG G2 so it doesn't come in until later today.

These are the bands for the T-Mobile LG G2 (D801): GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UTMS I/II/IV/V, LTE 2, 4, 17*
It has both bands 4 and 17 which AT&T LTE works on.
Thanks for that info OMEiAM - I was mobile so I couldn't look that stuff up, I appreciate it.
Anybody got any input on the camera question?
Take a look in the forums here for a 1.70 unlock thread. From what I've read it worked for most people.

Hi There,
I tried this method unlockcode247.com/imei/1/40/LG-USA-TMobile--ATampT-Unlock--all-models-[/url] last night and it worked absolutely fine on my D-801 T-Mobile Version of LG G2. Here is what you do
1. Fill in your IMEI
2. Purchase the unlock code
3. Wait for 4-6 hours to receive your unlock code in an email. (I got mine in less than 4hrs)
4. Follow the instructions on the site above
5. Pop-in at&t sim card and follow Method #2, worked for me.
6. I tested it by calling someone and worked fine with at&t sim card on my T-Mobile LG G2

Regarding your camera question, I'm in the same boat. I bought a Nexus 5 and while it is a great phone, the camera is almost unusable for the scenario that you described. Trying to get my kids to stay still so I can get a clear shot is impossible so the Nexus is going to have to go back. I'm still debating which phone to get but I'm leaning toward a G2 because of the battery life and supposedly good camera.

I ended up making the swap today. Haven't had a chance to play with it much, but the camera is a LOT faster than the N5's, and just feels better. I didn't hate the N5's camera at all, it was solid in a lot of situations. But we'll see how it does with my kids, I'll try and force some shots this evening.
I will say the G2 feels as fast, if not a bit faster (probably just animations) than the N5 - though the one I traded for is running Buckeye V2, which is still 4.2.2, but probably tweaked a bit. So I'm not pure stock, but close. It's also more ergonomic, which is nice.
Stock Rom is a beast. I'd be sure to spend a week with it. There are tons of stock Rom mods but it'd pretty awesome with the way it works.

It came with Buckeye v2 on it so I've stuck with that for now - pretty nice. Looks like stock with just a few helpful tweaks.
Camera is great - a little slow in low-light, though. The viewfinder crawls and it takes forever to focus in low-light.

Upgrading to a Moto G?

Hey everyone, I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus since it came out in late 2011. I think it is time to upgrade. I'm not looking to get the latest and greatest, just a phone that is better and more stable then what I currently have. I know the Moto G (2nd gen) does not have much better specs then my existing phone, so would it be worth the upgrade? Any feedback would be great.
I use my phone for email, games, movies, etc. I also regularly try different roms, kernels, etc.,, so a good dev support is important. I want to get the Nexus 5 but I would prefer to save the $ and use it for other things.
Thanks

I have one. I really like it. Battery life is not great so I would get a car charger if you intend on using it as a mobile GPS. The form factor is shirt pocket and convenient, the CPU is fast enough so the phone response is good, and it's inexpensive so if you drown it in the crapper you won't be pooping bricks right after it.
But you need to be aware that if you get a new one of these that the carrier has contractually obligated Motorola to not provide a bootloader unlock code, then there is no way to root it. Verizon is one of these carriers. If you can find a used phone that hasn't been upgraded to kitkat 4.4.4 then you CAN unlock it with Sunshine. But the carriers pushed 4.4.4 via OTA the minute it became available and all the new ones come with it.
Right now there's a lot of "developer version" moto G's for sale on Ebay. Apparently Motorola screwed up and marked a large number of them in their database as restricted from unlocking, then went and dumped them on the secondary market. These CAN be unlocked but Motorola is handling unlock requests on those on a case-by-case basis.
Some carriers do not restrict bootloader unlocking. Who is your carrier?
Thanks for the info! I won;t be going through a carrier, I use T-mobile but usually buy my phone somewhere else and don't worry about contracts. I was going to get the xt1063 on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Moto-2nd-generation-Unlocked/dp/B00MWI4HW0/ref=dp_ob_title_def
It doesn't seem like I should worry about unlocking it and then rooting since it is not carrier specific. My GNEX has an upgraded battery that is the same as the current moto g one, but the moto g has a more efficient processor so I think I'll be ok with the battery life on the moto g.

They are basically the same phone. The us edition received an update from 21.11.23 to 5.0.1 before the global.
The difference is in the supported bands. The US GSM version includes bands that are used by T-Mobile in the US. Frequency Bands (by model) US GSM Model: (Optimized for T-Mobile US) GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 1700 (AWS), 1900 MHz) Global GSM Model: (Optimized for AT&T and Global Use) GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
So is there still no 5.0.1 for the Global XT1063?

Yes and no..... For XT1063 If your phone comes with 21.11.17 then yes there are 3 otas to flash 22.11.6 22.11.16 and 22.21.25. If it comes with 21.11.23 then you are still waiting for lollipop. For XT1064 if your phone comes with 21.11.17 then you can upgrade only to 5.0 with ota 22.11.6 if it has 22.11.23 there is an ota for 5.0.1 in 22.21.25.
If you are not afraid of unlocking the boot loader then you can flash firmware to get to 5.0.1 either way

Yep, XT1063 on 21.11.23. Unlocking the BL requires a request to Motorola correct? And it voids warranty automatically?

Yup. Its only 149.99 for me so I didn't care and unlocked the boot loader. If you don't do that its a waiting game for the ota, or someone with root to pull their ota and post.
I have a n5 and my wife has a moto g 2014. Without a doubt pay the extra 100 or 150 and buy the n5. Its better in every way possible, even battery life if you flash elementalX kernal.
My HTC M7 died so I picked a 2nd Gen unlocked G up. Its not bad at all so far we'll see after I get lollipop how it runs.

Clearly spec wise the N5 is a better phone. You're stating the obvious. People buy the Moto G because they want to save some money. That extra $150 could potentially buy you 6 months worth of phone service. Some people value the $ savings vs. having a slightly faster, larger phone.

When I said every way possible, I was not referring to merely the specs. Every way possible, including dev support, kernels, roms, n5 is less glitchy, feels better in the hand, better screen quality, etc. etc. . Ive never had a freeze up, or random reboot like my wifes moto g has almost everyday. Id easily pay 150 dollars to avoid having a year of frustration with my phone, that i use every day and rely on. If people like you want to put up with sub par dev, and a glitchy device that feels like a brick, made of dated hardware just to save 150 bucks, have fun with that. Im all for saving money, which is why my wife bought the moto g instead of spending a little more and getting an n5, which I've had problem free since release. Big mistake.
I used to have a Nexus5 which I sold and bought the moto g. For normal everyday use there's no significant difference(at least for me). Battery life was horrible on the nexus, something that was obviously better when I used the elementalx kernel, but the moto g lasts even longer with the exact same use. SOT 5hr 20' on the nexus (with changed kernel) where on the moto g I can easily get 6hours and it's completely stock. My record is 7 hours 6'. And to be honest I never had a reboot having the phone for 3 months now.

Exactly the same situation here...however i gave my nexus 5 to elder brother...
Finally got rid of horrible battery life... Moto g2 runs widout a glitch and more than happy to keep it wid me... Although no custom rom support but i dont care as long as i dont feel the urgency to flash one
I don't have any experience with the n5 but my experience with my new moto g 2014 has been nothing like what lokke9191 is describing. I've had 0 reboots, 0 boot loops and 0 app crashes. Just like anyone else, I need a dependable phone as well and I've had no indication that the moto G 2014 doesn't meet that requirement. I would recommend reading a few reviews on both the moto G 2013 and the 2014 to get a better sense of the bang for your buck these phones give you as far as specs go.
I'm on Tmobile and passed up the opportunity to get a moto x for $340 and couldn't be happier with my moto g. I got a Consumer Cellular xt1064 from Sears for $150 and paid $3 for an unlock code on Ebay. I needed tethering so the first thing I did was get a stock xt1064 KitKat ROM (21.11.23) and I've stuck with it since (I'm not going to go to Lollipop yet because of the reports of bugs across almost all Android devices).
Edit: @OP: I would look very carefully into xt1063 vs xt1064 - the Consumer Cellular Sears models appear to be xt1064 and not xt1063. Also, I don't know if the xt1063 will get H+ on Tmobile but the xt1064 definitely does. If the xt1063 doesn't get H+ you're going to be stuck on 2G.
Finally, I don't think it is fair to compare XDA support for the n5 to that of the moto g 2014 - the n5 has been out way longer than the moto g 2014. I had no trouble finding what I needed on XDA to get the stock Motorola KitKat installed (vs the Consumer Cellular ROM). Also, depending on what the needs of the OP are, custom ROMs could be a total waste of time.
My wife's moto G has been fantastic in every way. Battery is 3 times better than her Galaxy S2, 0 random reboots or any nonsense like that. She is on Straight Talk $45 unlimited plan. Plain and simple it's an amazing phone for $150. I do regret getting the global version over the US. I will likely stick with AT&T prepaid providers but it would have been nice to have Tmobile as an option. Still is just no 4G.
On day 3 now and haven't had a single random reboot or any problems. Battery life has been great and lollipop is running without a hitch.
Also I have the unlocked US version on tmobile and don't really feel the loss of LTE with what I do.
Great phone for the price

[Q] Which G2 Variant is the best to buy?

Hi, I am going to be buying the G2 in a couple of days. I am in Pakistan and apparently, every G2 variant is available here. I am not a developer but I do like to customize my phones due to the generosity of all the developers creating flashable zips on XDA .
Which G2 Variant is the best for flashing and modding wise and which Variant is just considered the best? Are there any hardware differences between the variants? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you
Only major hardware differences I'm aware of is that the Verizon G2 has a different shape back, different (some consider them worse) buttons on the back, and added wireless charging that others do not have.
If I had to say for overall use, the Verizon variant because of the wireless charging capability. The negative aspect of that model is some ROMs have issues with it to some degrees and of course because it's capable of wireless charging that means it's slightly thicker front to back (like 1-2mm) that means you can't use just any old case for it - if it's not a case designed specifically for the Verizon variant to account for that additional thickness, the case just won't fit and there ain't a whole lot of Verizon variant cases available.
Just pointing out the positive and the negative - there is ROM support for the VS980 obviously and those unlock the SIM for use with most any provider (just like the Sprint LS980 variant does too). The button thing on the Verizon variant is a personal preference I suppose: they work exactly the same, they just have a different form factor in how they're laid out because of the addition of the Qi wireless charging antenna inside the battery cover on the Verizon variant.
The International model(s) are nice because they're free of such limitations from the gitgo and SIM unlocked (as I understand them to be).
You'll get arguments about which one ends up being better, I suppose, so the International variants are very popular for those reasons, but with the Verizon model supporting wireless charging (Qi standard) that kinda puts it slightly out front hardware-wise. Of course, some folks don't give a damn about wireless charging just like some don't care about NFC, etc.
Just have to decide for yourself which one might fit your needs and requirements best of all.

People have this misunderstanding about 4G: it's a term, it means the 4th generation of cellular technology, and because of that LTE is just one 4G technology - it's not the only one.
HSPA/HSPA+ is a 4G technology (actually it's a 3.5G technology but whatever) and can be just as fast as LTE in most markets, even faster in some respects because HSPA/HSPA+ allows for deeper building/structure penetration aka you get a stronger signal when you're indoors, your phone doesn't have to waste as much power to maintain it, hence you get better speeds.
Sure would be nice if people would realize all this someday and that LTE is not the end-all-be-all when it comes to 4G... it's just one side of 4G technology, another object under the 4G "umbrella" and HSPA/HSPA+ is more than capable of providing very high speed data just as well if not better.
HSPA/HSPA+ is more widespread than LTE too, at least based on looking at coverage charts worldwide - it's a slightly older technology (which means it's had more time to be put into action around the world) but again, it can be just as fast and even faster than LTE in some markets so, it's not something that should be dismissed outright.
I had a chance to sell my G2 the other day, the person that came to buy it was disappointed because it didn't show "4G LTE" on the status bar and I tried to explain that it was pulling down 38Mbps using HSPA+ and using LTE would be slower (on this phone, it actually is) and it would use more battery power, but he didn't care or didn't even comprehend what I was saying:
All he cared about was seeing "4G LTE" in the status bar so he decided not to buy it. I swear, ignorance is a horrible thing, especially in today's world where the info is right there and it's available and people willfully choose to stay ignorant of it.
Anyway, LTE ain't everything...

Just because American Carriers brand HSPA/HSPA+ as 4G doesn't mean that they are actually 4G, hack even LTE is not truly 4G, i was just explaining to the guy that the verizon model doesn't have 1800 MHZ LTE frequency band which is being used by local carriers (Waridtel, Zong) in pakistan, so he wont be able to access LTE which is Branded as 4G in Pakistan, i hope you got my point

Hello,
Was just gonna post my opinion on which variant to choose, LTE is a real thing to consider.
I opted to go with the Verizon variant because of this, in my country (Dominican Republic) this is the only variant that allows me to use LTE here, so I went with this one, and I'm glad I did, I didn't even know about the wireless charging, it was a pleasant surprise to me as fate would have it, my sister got a Nokia Wireless charger as a gift from her carrier (She has an iPhone) she came to me to know if she could sell it, as soon as I saw it, I tried it on my phone and it worked great! Needless to say I took it from her hands instantly.
Anyways, when I finally used LTE I was blown away! 100 Mbits/s was something Id never experienced. no matter how good HSPA+ is, it will never be as fast as LTE, and the battery life is great even if you leave it on all day. I never turn it off, though its good to know that I can if i want to.
If you get the Verizon variant you will need to at least root the phone to enjoy it completely. Because the wifi hotspot doesn't work if you are using a non Verizon SIM, there is a thread here which allows you to bypass it VERY easily, and it works awesomely.
Besides that, everything else is pretty much on par, there are at least 2 "Best Roms" for the G2 and they both work on the Verizon Variant. One of those two best is developed by XDABBEB who is the awesome Dev who brought us the Camera mod which is insanely good! and he also made a ROM specifically for the Verizon Variant which I installed on a friends VS980 and is working great with ART and his camera mod, the G3 UI preinstalled, and other cool things preinstalled.
Its your choice in the end.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give you the VS980 perspective from someone who owns and uses it as a daily driver.
If you have any other questions regarding this variant, do not hesitate to ask.

Hello, Nice to see a fellow Dominican around. The Verizon version as you said has surprisingly excellent support around here (For a LG Phone anyways). Would you mind telling how you got 4g to work? what carrier was it with? Claro, tricom or Orange?
thanks in advance.

Hello, nice to know I'm not the only one!
I didn't do anything special to make it work, I'm on Claro, just popped in my 4G LTE Sim on the phone and it worked automagically.
In the settings menu I have "Global" selected. Then I used xposed to get rid of that annoying invalid Sim notification.
sorry for being off topic but instead making a new thread i just wanna know why my lg g2 it doesn't have the update software option. i have the ls980 version the sprint and not only that but the camera makes blurry photos and videos .
And when i apply some light pressure on the screen i get blotches which it is very weird and ugly
thank you

You are right, I went to buy the Verizon variant but LTE was not working on it (My provider is Warid). I ended up checking all the variants except D802 and LTE was not working on any of them. I was unable to find the D802, people were actually selling it, however, they were all frauds, they had ported different models to the D802 rom, so it showed D802 in the Phone Information (so they could charge more). Even after the port none of the phones I tested were able to run Warid LTE. After searching for hours I was unable to find the D802 in the market, so my question now is that if i buy any of the models is there a way to have Warid LTE work on it, I am not in favor of messing with basebands though unless it's completely safe.
You need to do some research and find out specifically which LTE bands that carrier you want to sign on with is using, then find the G2 that matches it. There's a chance you might be out of luck with the actual LTE support because no G2 variant will support it (which is a possibility) so be aware of this.
This chart page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Asia
shows WaridTel using Band 3, apparently. On this page:
http://www.waridtel.com/lte/handset-compatibility
it clearly shows they have support for the LG G2 D802 and D802TA (whatever variant that is) so that's what you should be looking for, obviously.
You just might not be able to get LTE support for both reasons: hardware on the G2 not having it as well as your carrier not being a match for whatever G2 variant you happen to be looking for.
Do the research, then you'll be able to figure things out. Warid must be getting their network access from one of the more major providers, you just have to figure out which LTE band(s) are being utilized and go from there. The D802 might just be your ticket, so to speak, now you have to find a real one.
Do not buy Verizon LG G2. I used this model for a month and found it problematic in Pakistan. That's the only reason it is cheaper than other G2 models.

I went with your suggestion and pinpointed D802 as the variant that would work for me. However, the issue here was that most people had ported D802 ROMs on American or Korean variants and it was really hard finding out if it was the original D802. So, after testing my SIM card and configuring almost 2 dozen sets for LTE, I decided to not buy the G2 . Good news though I ended up buying the G3, LTE working and I am loving it
I had to spend $120 extra, which was a way out of my budget but I don't regret it, G3 is just too good
Thank you so much for taking the time and giving me all the advice, I really appreciate it
You're welcome, and congrats on the choice/purchase, I wish I could afford a G3 myself to be honest but, maybe someday.
I had first D802 16gb with 7 icons in dock but latest android 4.2.2 from UK, next was 32 but from local shop (europe), but only with 6 icons in dock. I prefer UK roms.

Should I buy i9500 or i9505 or others

My Galaxy s3 just died this morning So I'm thinking of buying a new phone. But I don't have too much budget on my hands. My needs are:
1) Good community support: I want to buy phone which has Stable CM12.1 release. Please let me know are there any major bugs on cm12.1 roms for i9500 ?
2) Good Camera: I believe s4 has one
3) Expandable Memory
4) Good battery backup
5) Good Display
Also the US cousin of i9500 i.e. i9505 is also available for little more, but if I go for that I would lose warranty and will also spend little more. So is it worth to go for i9505 ? I know it has 4g which i9500 doesn't have. But how good are the lollipop ROM stability on i9505, is it more stable ? Any other things which I'm missing out ?
Also I have option to go for oneplus one, but I don't know how good is the quality of phone when compared with Samsung ? I want to use it for atleast next 2-3 years
Avoid US models of S4 unless from T-Mobile (M919). The AT&T (I337) and Verizon (I545) models come with locked bootloaders which make customization difficult. The Verizon and Sprint (L720) models use CDMA instead of the global standard GSM, making them difficult to use outside of the US.
Canadian devices don't have the bootloader or CDMA issues, but if you live anywhere in Europe you will want the I9505. The LTE bands of US and Canadian devices are different, and you may get slow LTE, if any LTE at all. Whether Android 5.x.x runs well on it is a matter of opinion. Some will swear by it while others curse it. You'll have to try it out for yourself.
The I9500 has no LTE but also has little custom ROM support. I don't recommend it.
oh, I thought i9500 had good ROM support
