Official Battery Life Thread - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

so maybe I'm blind, but i didn't see a battery life thread yet. post some shots with screen on time and how much time off charger!
right now mine is pretty terrible since it's less than 24 hours since I got it.. but i do hope it gets better, because it seems my g2 had better battery life right off the bat, but I'm sure this thing just has to settle in after a few charge cycles!!

For me, battery life suddenly doesn't matter as much, when it can charge so fast..

I'm in the same boat as OP. Think a few cycles will show how great this battery really is.

Same here. I'm on day 2, so I'm hoping it does improve.

battery life is pretty decent for me. Power using gets me through a day link to my moto 360 via bluetooth and on wifi about 50% of the time.

I've been listening to Poweramp since eight this morning. A little surfing, and I'm at 73%. I expect it might be a bit better once the battery has gone through a couple of charge cycles.

One thing I learned, was download booster is a huge battery hog! If you turn it on, it'll take days to charge to 100%.
I know the note is doing better than my old s3 though, because doing my same run using both my tracks and S health, rocket player, and taking panorama pics, I still used 10% less battery than my s3 did only running my tracks and rocket player.

Me trying to drain it. Amazing in my opinion

How do you post pics. I'm using the tapatalk app and it says my screenshot filesize is too large

My phone is randomly heating up, not sure why..only using facebook on wifi...1 day old..

yeah, but i disabled fast charging because i thought i read somewhere that using fast charge could degrade the life of the battery over time..yea yea i know, batteries are cheap, but still. idk. plus you always have to have the samsung fast charger with you, which i obviously don't do. but "slow" charging still charges fast enough for me lol
either way the battery is pretty bad for me on day 2. i've disabled A LOT of bloat though, so who knows. wish we had root; i'd use greenify like i used to on the G2...

i had same thing and i noticed that i had several email accounts setup, but when i go to each inbox, they were empty and the device was constantly trying to sync, but nothing would push both ways, and therefore after a few hours phone got real hot. battery was draining like 10 percent every 15 mins.
after some testing, i found out that if you go into email advanced options, disable group as email conversatinos, and that fixed all my stuff, battery is great

Eh, I don't even have other emails setup besides my Gmail app...

First cycle results not too bad if you ask me. Fully charged it yesterday when I got it and took it off the charger when charging was complete been off the charger ever since... I've been trying to kill it by playing games Web browsing YouTube phone calls and it still going strong...

Almost 12 hours or moderate use and the battery usage was 90%. To me coming from the Note 2 this is not an improvement. Anyone coming from a Note3 with any other thoughts.

This is my results coming from a 100% battery charge.

idk how the hell you guys are getting like 5 hour screen on time. how quick do you drop from 100 to 99 after you unplug from charger? mines pretty quick. it's annoying. the g2 would stick on 100 percent for 20 minutes of screen on time and an hour off charger. this phone is at 90 by then. ridiculous. maybe I'm just spoiled by the g2s amazing battery life.
right now I'm at 12 percent left, with 14 hours 45 minute off charger and 3 hour 26 minutes screen on time. android system is my humber one battery user.. not even screen. the hell?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using Tapatalk.

I say give it a few more days in order to better judge the battery. For the G3, the first few days had terrible battery life. The battery would last less than 20hrs and about 3hrs screen time. I was getting ready to dump it, but soon the battery life picked up. Now I always get over 24hrs with at least 4.5hrs screen time. Obviously two different devices from different manufacturers, but the point is to not be quick to judge it. My Note 4 will probably be arriving early next week.

yeah i hear you. if i recall, my g2 wasn't great at start either... but i cant really remember. anyway here was my final stats for today. it's on the charger now for a bit before bed.
my android system is higher than the screen on which is weird... never had that before on a phone.

Battery life

I just order this phone online yesterday and was wanting to get a general consensus on the battery life on the phone... Coming from an HD2 and a nexus one before and a G1 before that I am tired of using smartphones with horrible battery life... I'm hoping to get battery life similar to that of the blackberry 9700 (I had that between my G1 and Nexus) which i was ver impressed with it's battery getting up to 2 days out of it sometimes... Is the battery anything close to that? or is it another fail for smartphone batteries?

The battery life on the Vibrant is right up there with the best of a powerful smartphone with a large screen. It will not be like the BB however.
I love the battery life on this phone I have only charged it twice sense last Thursday I seem to be getting 24 hours of normal use or more off this battery. Normal use for me is lots of testing and browsing the net I also been showing off avatar been using the battery for that.
I am very happy with the battery on this phone.

I too recently ordered this phone, and if the battery alone is better than then G1 I'll be happy. So far alot of good reviews. So hopefully a charger in my back pocket wont be necessary. I'll repost once I get it on Monday or Tuesday!
My nexus one got me about 4.5 to 5 hours heavy usage. This gets me 6 hours of heavy usage (straight internet). My n1 lasted a day of moderate usage, I noticed standby wasnt to great on it, but the vibrant I bet I could get 2 days light to moderate usage as I can already tell the Standby time kicks the arse off the n1....
Happy so far..

I once had a G1, worst battery ever! You will be pleased with this one!
I haven't been overly impressed with the battery life. I might have something installed that is sucking it dry but 8-10 hours is all I get from a charge (Of course this is during the initial "wow" period of getting a new phone).
Did my 1st battery test yesterdy. Unplugged it from the charger at 11am. Sittin at the throne browsing fb & twitter, email, xda (legs ended up falling aslep lol) Used camera & video for about 30 mins on the biggest resolution. Daughter was on youtube for about an hour in the car (Weird Al Yankovic's trapped in the drive thru on repeat smh). Surfing the web for a good 45 mins while wifey & daughter shopping. Watchng avatar. Get home at around 10pm and battery just now dopped to 50%. Best battery ive had since my bb8700! hopefully a higher mah stock size battery is in the work so my vibrant can go on beast mode!
Lol I had the 9700 no smart phone would have the battery life that thing has unless a new form of battery technology emerges that thing best point is to live

FYI just got mine and it is charging now. At the store I checked out the battery stats on the demo unit (in theory it has had a good deal of play time from customers) and it was at 32% and unplugged for 2 days and like 5 hours. That is damn GOOD. If we get custom kernels on this thing, that would be intense.
I think it's pretty bad. I only have exchange email on it and nothing else syncing. Even when I'm not using it much the battery is down to 70%. What's worse is that the battery meter will appear to be 100% even when it's downto 82%. I have to charge it after about 8 hours and keep in mind I have a 9700 that is my #1 for email and messaging via bbm. I could only imagine if this were my only phone. I'd probably need to find a charge after 6 hours. It's better than the hd2 however but I go 2 days without charging my blackberry so I hope that's not what you're looking for.
I will however any that for a super android device it probably had the best battery when compared to the evo, incredible, droid x etc

You can get a good 10 to 12 hours out of it with heavy usage, which is great for a smart phone .
In terms of fast, large screen smartphones, the battery life is slightly better than average in my opinion. It's a 1500mah pack as compared to the 1150mah pack in my G1. It's definitely not to the point where I would like it to be, but there isn't a phone on the market that can really provide me with that capability (unless some type of new battery tech comes out).
You can just go into your settings, then about phone and then battery usage and you'll see a breakdown of what your usage was since the last time it was plugged in charging. For me the screen is still dominating the power usage. That should be pretty typical of any large screen smartphone. Since the AMOLED is 20% more efficient than LCD it should translate to slightly better overall battery life.
Remember guys, this is also battery life with the stock kernel. I'm sure once we get a dev team working on uv/oc kernels, we'll see some significant fluctuation in the battery life, much like we saw with the N1 almost doubling battery life with the right kernel.
I have to say, my battery life has been rather mediocre at best so far. Yesterday got down to 30% in about 8 hours, and all I did was send maybe 10 text messages and make two calls. I turned off Facebook and Twitter syncing in hopes that it would help. I barely used the damn thing and it ate through the battery. It's syncing my Gmail account and two Hotmail accounts (checking every hour). I hope that I'm just not noticing using it more. In cases when I do sit down and use it heavily, battery runs down incredibly quickly. I'm rather concerned.
I believe Froyo is better on battery
Thanks for all the info guys... Hopefully the phone will be in tomorrow so I can form my own opinion *crosses fingers*
Not good. Battery lost 30% overnight in 9 hours with SetCPU set and it set to GSM Auto PRL... :-(

Conditioning is a myth... LiOn batteries don't need to be conditioned. The phone needs to be conditioned to properly report the battery, but it shouldn't be this bad.

YABB Yet Another Battery *****ing Thread

Gawdang battery, lasted too long!
So my first android was the nexus one, then the galaxy s, then the nexus S. I am used to the "fantastic" battery life of android phones. So yesterday I was deciding on whether to get the galaxy nexus to continue the tradition, but decided to get the note instead.
I want to do the right thing and that is to do a full charge and full discharge on the first few rounds of battery life but it took AGES for it to discharge fully. I am so pleased with this, I now have better battery life than my wife's iphone.
******** If you see the battery chart, I could not resist playing with the phone so did a little charge there. I am also trying to avoid root as long as possible, after the so call "stock vanilla" experience, its nice to have toggles on the notification without jumping through loops
Wow. 6 hours. That's impressive

I got my Note on Thursday morning. I didn't have time to set it up until Friday evening. I fully charged the battery first. I've got gmail and twitter syncing, and bluetooth and wifi on. I've made a few calls and showed it off to my family on Christmas Eve. It hasn't been heavy use by any stretch, but I have yet to recharge the battery - it's at 33% right now with screen on time of just over three hours. I'm pretty satisfied so far.

So I don't understand this thread. How can you know how long battery last for if you part charge it?
Not much to understand, my friend. This thread was not made to prove anything, just to show I am real happy with my phone. You are completely right, I did charge it in the middle, I was transfering songs and movies out from the computer and forgot to take it off the usb.
I am now on the second from full to zero. Lets see how much screen time I can get, but already its a winner for me. 77% with 10h on battery and 1h 39m screen time.
Happy holidays all.

Congrats on your new purchases, may you have much joy with it, like I do mine.
i got the note a few days ago and im very pleased with the battery usage. right now on normal usage im on 48 hours of on time, with 40% battery left. display is the biggest usage of course, and has been on 2.5 hours. ive done lots of installing via wifi and playing with new apps and running games, and a few calls, etc. my old galaxy s would get 48 hours only with very minimal usage and nowhere near 2.5 hours of the display on.
So I am now on my 2nd discharge or 3rd and I rooted it, so there was a whole lot of plugging in and adb and stuff, but I think on a real discharge I can get away with about 4 hours screen time, that is stretching it i think but, generally still very very happy with it. Compared to the nexus S and the galaxy s before, this is heaven for me. I still maintain its better than the wife's 4S
Wow. It sounds like a lot of us with battery problems might still have half full batteries falsely claiming to be empty. Aside from turning off the heater function, this might be the next big explaination of "poor battery"

Nexus 4 Battery Life

Hey Guys,
A bunch of people are complaining about the battery life on Nexus 4. I've been waited for a couple days since I got the device, to have enough confident about the battery before I make any post here. Yes, the phone battery drain pretty fast on the first few cycles. After a bunch more charges later, let me tell this, the battery life did get significantly better. It lasted about 10-15 hr depends on the load of the usage.
Here is my typical day, off the charge at 100% in the morning, listen to a few songs, checking emails, and messages while getting ready for school. About an 30mn to 1hr of internet browser and youtube videos while on the bus. By 1-2pm the battery drop the about 70-80%. I put the phone in silent mood til i'm done with all my classes. On the way back home on the bus, I listened to a bunch of music, web browsing, maybe a few phone calls, texts or games.
Compare to my old phone, Samsung Galaxy S2 T989, im impressed with the Nexus 4 battery life. My Galaxy S2 battery always die on the bus coming back home. What I'm trying to get at: if you're a light to medium user like me, then get this phone. I was hesitate at first because I always have bad experience with android battery life. But Google seem to get its OS right with this nexus device, mainly because the battery drain minimum while in sleeping mood.
Can you post your Nexus 4 battery performance screenshot if you have been using the phone for more than a few days ?
Is there supposed to be a question being asked? Or a statement as this is in the Q&A forum.
I agree with you on many points. People need to wait at least 5 to 7 days for the battery charge to fully kick in. The first days mean absolutely nothing as it is still being aligned plus the user is still installing apps and setting up their phone.
There are some notable problems in the default kernel that uses more battery Usage than normal too.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
From full battery to this overnight + breakfast usage. Rasbean + Matr1x v3.0. Never seen anything like it. Coming from the GN, this phone is a different dimension altogether. On any aspect..
Had phone for 5 days. Drained phone to 10% then fully charged. Moderate to light use made it through a day.
Stock rooted + Franco Kernel.

Depends on how much screen time you got, which you didn't show us.
The trick is to be careful about using mobile data when signal is bad, I switch to WiFi when home to avoid unnecessary battery drain.

What is this obsession for battery life, it lasts me well through the day with moderate/heavy use. I charge it at night (if needed) and unless you are homeleless this shouldn`t be a problem. It`s a great phone and i enjoy using it.

I thought the same until my N4 actually arrived, it seems battery life is abysmal compared to my Optimus 2x which didnt have anything really spectacular in regards to battery size. On my O2x I could get 1.5 - 2.5 days depending on use, hitting atleast 1 .5 which was good and acceptable for me (I can charge at night anyways) however my N4 doesnt even reach 13 hours on similar usage!.
I am quite a light users of smartphones however I do like to have a power phone when it comes to using it on the basis of smoothness and capabilities if I need to say do work on my phone, I rarely play games though. Main usage is 2 email accounts on poll 1 hour steps, a third account that is an exchange server and polls in 30 minute steps and thats about it with some brief browsing and a handful of texts (been a quite time since I got my N4), this is less usage than my O2x and yet it still performs alot worse!
I was hoping of staying with stock as I was expecting it to finally be good, comparing it to LG stock attempts it is but battery life isnt . I will be trying the combo Vangelis13 mentioned, raspbean and matr1x kernel as that seems like a great mix however Parandroid has been on the table and it seems like alot of being are getting good results so I will try it soon .
If I can get more than a day of usage I would be really happy, if I was playing games or doing really heavy tasks I wouldnt expect it to last but right now it is doing pretty much nothing and dieing far to fast!.
One thing I've noticed since coming to N4 from S2 is that phone calls drain battery much more significantly on the N4. I could make an hour long call on my S2 and it would use no more than a couple of percent battery but the N4 used 15% for an hour long phone call the other night.
If I didn't own a nexus 4 and came to this thread to find out about it's battery life I would expect it to be good.
Point is you guys are misinforming everyone. The battery is mediocre and that's it.
It won't last a full day if you use it constantly and I do need two charges / day many times.
Let me put it this way, you will only get roughly 3 hours of screen time on stock everything. If that is good for you then it's will have good battery life, if not then you will say it's got poor battery life.

you are perfectly right.
I come from an iPhone 4s, which I changed because the battery life wasn´t that great and I thought it was time to try something new.
Got the N4 last friday and played around with it during the weekend.
Monday, tuesday and wednesday this week... none of these days I´ve been able to come back home with the phone still on.
I wake up at 7.30am and I usually am back home at 6pm.
In my opinion, and honestly should be in everyone´s opinion, 10 hours of battery life are unacceptable, whatever the usage is (considering that 7.30 of those 10 hours I was at work)
I have till friday this week to return it, which is a pity because the phone is great
i get 5-6 hours sot..
rom is omnirom 5.1.1 hellscore kernel b73.
100mv undervoltage hellsactive governer.
think 7 would be possible if google services would not take a quarter of the battery.
the screen is not taking that much battery as one would think.
think most issues with battery life come from fake original battery replacements.
had 3-4 sot using "original" battery. but after replacing with real genuine from official lg spare parts shop 5-6...

[Q] Battery Drains Faster?

Hi,
I brought my Samsung s4 yesterday and charged it before use it, my question is i used only 1 or 2 h and stand by about 4 h, battery is now 48%.
Is others have same issue?
Is it normal ? draining battery like this ? if not should i send it back?
Please give me some advice .
Regards
Let it completely die 3 times before sending it back imo. It might just be getting poor battery readings
Had mine run GLBenchmark when I was laying down in bed. Found it still on around 7 hours later, the screen still on (after I realized I fell asleep), and was around 10%.
Again, that's with the screen on all 7 hours.
Will try completely draining but battery life is horrible for me also...
I mean I'm at 89% using Power Saver with 11 minutes screen time and only 2.5 hrs off the charger...

Yea you really have to let it go for a good week til it gets some battery data & breaks the battery in.
Also the screen drains the battery more than anything you could listen to music for days if you kept the screen off

NO NO NO FOR CHRIST SAKE NO. don't listen to this swine. Letting your battery completely discharge is the worst thing you can do for a lithium ion battery, significantly reducing its life
If I helped you out be sure to hit thanks

firstly, im not a swine.
secondly, its actually really beneficial to let your battery die. since android shuts off the phone before it hits absolute 0% you will not ruin the battery. now, on the other hand, if you let the phone die, set the battery on a shelf for a few months, and then try to use it again, that will probably ruin the battery.
ive let my droid 3's battery die hundreds of times and it still gets me through a full day regularly
leaving the phone on the charger at 100% actually potentially hurts battery life. but, this rarely effects battery life by much.
if you store a battery for long term storage, the suggested amount of charge to leave in the battery is 30-40%

From what I've researched putting any unnecessary strain on the battery isn't good for maintaining it long term. Meaning charging it when it hits 15 percent or so, and yes, not leaving it at a high capacity for extended amounts of time
If I helped you out be sure to hit thanks

If your battery gets below 3.0 V it's bad. But the phone will shut down when the battery gets below 3.5 V.

yea im not saying to leave the screen on when you're not using it. im just saying let it die during normal usage. maybe even by the next day.
if you somehow manage to wreck the battery in this thing though, the greatest thing is its easily removable lol

Battery Life Discussion

Please post all your battery life discussions, tips, tricks, habits, on screen times, etc here.
I hereby designate this the "Official" battery life discussion thread!
well when i picked it up it had 59 or 56% charge and went down to 8% in about oh 2 hours tops and this honestly had me a bit scared. When I put it on the charger I noticed plugged into my laptop or my truck usb port it took forever to charge and honestly would not charge fast enough if it was being used. When I put it on the charger it came with plugged into the wall it charged from 8%ish to 100% in easily 45 mins I let it charge over night and took it off the charger and its now been off for roughly 12 1/2 hours and down to about 56% battery life. So I am definitely satisfied with the battery life so far.
I do run ultimate juice defender and power saver mode. I tried out the ultimate power saver mode for a mere 15 seconds and quickly reverted back. Also I have weather set to auto update every 3 hours, email every 3 hours, facebook never, and anything else is at 6 hours.
To early to tell. Gotta give it a few days. But I can say that the phone seems to drop to the 50% mark easy, but then drops slower after that.
I'll post battery screen in a few days.
Here's a screenshot of my phone's battery life taken a couple of days ago. Highly impressive! Bear in mind mine is the Exynos Octa Core model.
Here's a screenshot of my phone's battery life taken a couple of days ago. Yes, I had the battery saving mode on but I was using the phone for large amount of time. Highly impressive! Bear in mind mine is the Exynos Octa Core model.
Charging mine to full right now and I will then let it run until it turns off then charge back up to full and see how it does.
Remember your number 1power consumer is your screen. Some tips I have
1 set the screen as low as you can and still see it
2 the more stuff you have on your homescreen the more the processor has to work to display it
3 if you can use art runtime do so, the davlic system is a just in time system witch means it only processes information as it gets it. The art runtime processes information ahead of time so in general terms it can process the same amount of information in a dynamic sense. The art runtime also will improve overall performance espically in games and intensive applications
4 keep as few processes and services running as possible
5 when able to use wifi do so. When using mobile data your phone constantly pings the towers near it. This constant process eats at the battery. By using wifi this cuts off your mobile data modules and dosent worry about data connections (except for your voice network, even using voip your voice system stays active, I guess its a tap left open for the phone companies)
Any other tips? I caint think of any
For rooted users
Undervolting always help. With the combined use of undervolting, using the art runtime, running an odexed rom, and using an interactive type scheduler and you can maintain decent performance (with decent hardware or better) and have great battery performance
Any update on battery life? GSM arena review updated battery endurance. Just want to get review from current users.
Going to run my battery to zero today and see how the results are. The software won't get an understanding of the battery capacity until it runs to zero to know exactly how much juice it has. Otherwise it is just guessing.

Trying to upload pic and it is not working for some reason.
Anyway, I'm coming from the Note 4 and battery life has essentially been identical for my first day.
I'm getting about 5 hours of screen on time and I have my Bluetooth on ALL DAY with my Gear S

Is the Battery in the Note 4 and the Edge the same except for thickness?

Pretty much. Note edge's battery isn't as wide because it is a tad smaller

Any capacity left after that or pretty much empty?
Almost 6 hours on screen time with blue tooth on whole time and wifi.
Great for first full charge. I ran it until battery went to zero. Quick charge in 15 minutes with unit off was 25%.
Screen was set to Auto all day. And I did not have power saving mode on.

This is great very impressive battery life. I guess it will get better after few cycles.
not impressed…. so far.
I have had the phone since the 14th. I have had sporadic useage the first few days but yesterday I just decided to use the phone like I normally would. I got 14 hours BUT I had less than 3 hours screen time. That is horrid. I am reserving judgment until at least this sund. I will have had it at least a week and some days. I know the note 4 had an update immediately to addresses battery issues. I wonder will this happen for the edge. Will report back.
Note: I tried to attach battery screen shots but I get "invaid files". Dont know what thats about.

this has been my experience... i'll stick it on the charger it came with later. i was freaking out like.... "what's the deal here?"
So battery life is worse by a noticeable amount then the note 4? I have a note 4, thinking of getting the edge
So far mine seems to be about the same as my Note 2, with updates being done every hour (except weather updates to my gear watch, which is updated every half hour). So I am pretty happy with.
