There really was only a very short window of time to unlock the bootloader. Unless you got an M after the update that was still on the original firmware. Almost right after Rosenberg published, Verizon sent out their exploit patch... I really wish Verizon would stop doing this stuff. It makes no sense.

Motorola just released kernel source code, i dont know but can this help?????
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app

This will not likely help much unlocking the bootloader, but it is nice of them to do so promptly to allow the few devs who build ROMs to continue updating with the new kernel.

It will help with our custom ROMs...

KitKat troubles
I purchased two used Razr M's for use on Straight Talk. After using Radiocomm, the phones worked great. My wife updated to KitKat and lost her service. I used Radiocomm on hers and have it running again. I upgraded mine also and now we both screwed. Modem Fast Dormancy Monitor Service error pops up all the time. I watched mine screen come on like a reboot three times yesterday. Before I went to bed, I noticed that I had no service. A reboot and service came back. I sent two emails to Motorola and have no reply as of yet. KitKat runs great, but now I just may have to buy two more phones. I don't see any help coming and would advise people to stay away from these phone unless using on Verizon. I didn't know all the trouble a locked bootloader and not being able to root would cause. I read that it had been implied that Android slow release stages were to cause people to buy new phones for updates. So I guess the KitKat issues I'm facing are the same. Encourage me to buy before my wife skins me alive!

There is a fix for the Modem Fast Dormancy bug but it requires root in order to edit the build.prop and disable it.
Without root, it is possible there maybe a way to disable those functions by editing the NVM, but it will require some considerable work to isolate the NV Items and parameters responsible.
After editing the build.prop the phone performs pretty well under KK for GSM/WCDMA service.
I will try and take a look at the NV dumps and see what I can find. No promises.

ATT Moto X Camera Update Rolling out

Looks like the update is rolling out. Guessing this should not break the root exploit for non dev editions correct? If one is currently rooted, they would have to return 100% to stock so stock recovery is there for the OTA update to successfully install. And then re-root?

I did that with this phone once and it screwed it up. I do not recommend this method unless you want to factory reset.

I'm wondering how I can get the update. I bought the phone from Rogers, but use it with Bell. I'm not on the Rogers network, so I'm sure I can't get the update OTA from Rogers. I'm hoping there's a rom or kernal or something I can flash/install.

Shouldn't matter. The update doesn't come from YOUR provider, the device's ROM is designed so that it pulls from Rogers' servers. When Rogers releases the update, you'll get it.

For those of us that use Motoroot, should we unroot then update, or can we update with the root?
Also, if we unroot to get the update will we be able to use the same method to root again?

Uh oh... 15337hrs. Until I can update

Hello, I went to go check and see if it was true that KitKat came out for the at&t gs4 so I went to go check for an update and it told me I have to wait 15337 hours and 0 minutes until I could check again. Anyway to get passed this by changing the system time maybe? This seems like a joke. My phone is rooted on 4.2.2 and I froze at&t DM manager so it wouldn't automatically update on me (don't know if that could have something to do with it). I wasn't going to update until a new root method came out for the gs4 on KitKat. If anyone could help I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

So do you want to update our not? Your post isn't clear. If you do you're going to have to get rid of root and unfreeze the apps you froze. Easiest way to do that is to flash the mf3 tar files in odin. Backup first of course.
No I do not want to update right now. I want to update when a root method is available. I just was checking to see if KitKat was actually available so when I am going to update, when there is a root method of course, I can, but it says I need to wait 15337 hours and that's my problem so I need to figure out a way to fix that so I eventually can update.

You'll just have to wait 1.75 years and you'll be good to go, lol. No, seriously, you'll need to return to stock and flash the mf3 tar files when you're ready to get the update.
Haha excellent I will do that (the returning to stock way that is). Thank you very much for your help!

You could also just change the date in your settings. I used that to bypass the automatic 24 hour delay between checking for updates, it should work for larger delays as well.

Not sure what you are looking to gain from updating. I've been told adding mods as you like to mock update, as oppose to taking the update and losing root because of the patched exploit is the better way to go.

Nope, locked bootloader prevents changing the kernel, so once you upgrade that's it.
To the OP: 4.4.4 for the Verizon S5 isn't even out yet.

I saw a question just like this about a month ago and one the replies was something like this... " if you people out there want the new stuff just to be running NEW, you shouldn't even be rooted because you don't really understand the value of it. You don't even appreciate it." You should be happy, as it is, with the fact that that there are at least 5 Custom Rom's out there AND all you had to do was sideload an apk. Updates are not necessarily stable OR really add anything...usually just a patch for those that are too eager for "New", so you can't be rooted.
Why do you think there are OTA blockers on these Rom's? For a reason. It's just too easy now. You didn't even have to plug your phone into your PC and execute a console exe like for the S2. Some of us actually had to wait patiently for like a month just hoping for a developer to find an exploit! :SMH:

Another root method could happen sure... But unlocking not likely at all.. The only reason we got the 2nd chance we did is because someone at moto "accidentally" used the old tz code that's vulnerable to Dan Rosenbergs exploit

I finally managed to get it worked out. One problem is that root checker was telling me I had no root even though I do. That lying skank! Now that I got that, I'm trying to deal with the VZW hotspot issue. The latest ota update seems to have made the problem more difficult. Thanks for advice, though!

Yes and any exploit in Lp if made public before vzw drops Lp means they can patch it to close the exploit to once again mount us.
If your wondering why we have to wait it is because the locked bootloader we have to run official based kernels and roms if we don't then the bootloader chokes and says no. So unless some kind of miracle happens we will never be able to load asop and will be forever tied to carrier releases.
