Thinking of getting one of these as a mess-around device as it has good community support and is cheap. Are they still in production, or is it just left over stock?
I myself have an archos A70s for nearly 2 years now and it is still a good device for some things.
But it is in no way capable of the things you need now.
If you want samething cheap why not get something like "Ainol Novo 7 Elf II" and get a real dualcore device that has 1 GB of ram and comes with ICS.
You can get that for less than 100 stearling on ebay.
And the Ainol community is growing every day ( and is active atm ).
ATM there are so many cheap r3066 or 8726-mx out there that i personaly wouldn't decide for the Archos.

Sounds stupid but it was either this or the Arnova range. The Arnova range has little to no dev support but this tablet does, and is available at £130 in the UK. It's just a tinkering device that I don't really have to worry about making non-functional because I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Although, what draws me to the Arnova is the more powerful hardware.
Arnova and more Powerfull?

It's not Arnova. It's Ainol.
Also, are they still being made? Do Archos provide fixes?
What tasks does it struggle with?
I just want a hacking device.
Hacking? As far as I know this device is good for development and hacking, a developer should answer your question. Anyway, if you are good developer (or developer at all) you are welcome to join the community. I dont know if the device is stil being made but the firmware support by the manufacturer is stopped as it seems.
@mr.fast:
That link was for you to compare the "Arnova is the more powerful hardware" to something that really is.

Ok'ay, thanks...
I am still unsure if they are still being manufactured. Archos don't seem to sell them directly anymore but Carphone Warehouse in the UK have them for £150.
It's either this or an Arnova 10 G2. Is the Rockchip RK2918 more powerful than the OMAP in the Archos 101 G8?
It's just that the Arnova doesn't have any or little dev support and has more restrictive firmware.
Thanks.
Arnova users often come here and ask for help, so I think Archos community is better.
I'm selling my A101 G8 16G....
PM me for details. It has the ACC H264 codec already installed and paid for too. Nice case and HDMI cable.

Sorry, I live in the UK.
Looks like it's been removed from the Archos website.
Ok been lurking on the thread for a while, and it appears the mk808,is the mostppreferred however what is the latest rootable android stick please.?
Latest not aways greatest
The MK808B has all the features of the MK808 with a few improvements, better wifi and bluetooth. The MK808 gets better custom ROM support and firmware updates come faster for the MK808. Latest doesn't mean its necessarily better, firmware for the MK808/B (4.2.2) is about 30% slower than Finless ROM for the MK808/B. For a price point under $50 the MK808B is hard to beat. I recommend buying a $50 to $60 Android TV stick every 3 to 6 months. Uhost U1A, and MK802 are the best single core tv sticks but are now obsolete. In 6 months or less quad core tv sticks will be about $50 and all dual cores will be obsolete, and by then you'll have a better understanding of how a tv stick works best for you.
Gaming (think webcam enabled first person shooter- live)
XBMC (netflix, hulu+, redbox, crackle, hbo2go, youtube)
Smarter TV (use voice command to control android apps)
Replacing PC (just surfing web, why not on big screen hdtv)
Video phone (skype, sipdroid, groove ip)
Online college courses (video chat classroom)
All starting around $50!

mk808 is perhaps the hottest on the market, but for the latest you should check out the new quad cores that recently started coming out.

I went with the 802IIIS because it is/was the latest....lol
Only getting my feet wet, looks more like what makes a device "hot" is the aftermarket support?
Im not sure I can figure out to root and play with all the new roms, so far the 802 has done what I needed it to.
Im sure the quad core will be hot, but which one will get all the aftermarket roms? your guess is as good as mine..
Hope that helps some?
thanks for your answer, but i'm not sure if its better to buy the 808b or the 802 IIIs... all i want is a stable android stick with an working android market.
...support would be great, but i never used product service til today.

Well The IIIS seams very stable, no freezing, no lockups...I use it for streaming video from a sling box and its just fine....Market no problems either...
I just saw today another aftermarket rom was made for the IIIS, that's a good sign....
I don't have the confidence to root so the stock is working great in my world.
Good luck on your choice!!!
Just ordered the 809. Cant wait to get it and play

Hi,
I am from India, and really want to get a NVIDIA SHIELD device for myself for general Android TV ( preferably the new pro 2019 ) purpose as well as to recollect some memories of the years gone by installing some emulators and running some classic games apart from trying my luck with running Android Games etc.
My queries here are multiple :
1. Is it going to give any issues due to purchase in US/Can. by not showing me Local INDIAN content on apps like , Netflix, Prime Video, Hot-star etc. ( I do have subscriptions for them in India and running through Chrome-cast 3 already)
I had just spoken to the NVIDIA rep. who told me it would play American content. However, a Prime rep. told me it would play Indian content.
I believe this all depends on the first login and the servers of the country being used to run the content from .
I have also read some other posts some people using the device in India which was brought in US and working fine. But no one confirmed that they are playing the Indian content or not.
Please confirm
2. Are the Android updates, region specific for the device, and I will need to run a VPN with US server and back and forth to reinstall the apps and stuff again and again ?
3. Should I go for NVIDIA game controller itself along with the device, as some reviewers mentioned that it provides full compatibility ( mic and talking to android
feature etc) with the device, unlike the compatible controllers which I may be able to get my hands on in INDIA? Are there any controllers which do exactly the same or more than the official controller ?
4. Are there any prohibited components inside which are barred to travel with like the batteries etc. from US/ Canada or to India ?
P.S. I am not an expert, so go easy on me !
THANKS !

I just bought the NVIDIA SHIELD TV PRO 2019 model from Amazon.com website and got it shipped to India. No issues with the shipment at all.
There are a few things you need to do to get your Free access to GEFORCE NOW games working on your device.
Get to the customer support chat section on the NVIDIA website and share your original bill, NVIDIA login ID and they will unlock your BETA access for your device in India.
1. There are no other problems with content or anything as all the popular apps use your local login, so NETFLIX, PRIME, HOTSTAR and ZEE5 all Indian content works properly.
2. You do not need any VPN for any updates. It is all officially supported in India.
3. You can use any bluetooth controller - I use my XBOX ONE S controller. You can also use PS4 controller with it. These are official NVIDIA recommended controllers and have no issues or problems.

Xbox One X or Shield TV Pro?
My primary intentions to get an Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) was to experience Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos as no other streaming box or device supports most of the apps that has Dolby Atmos content. But later on I came to know that Xbox One X also supports Dolby Atmos on Netflix and other apps. So I am now confused whether to get an Xbox One X in India or import Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) through Amazon.com or Tanotis or NewEgg or B&Photo.com?
Could you help me with why should I choose Nvidia over Xbox One X and what would be the Customs Duties if I am getting it shipped through a friend or relative on FedEx or Aramex?

Machi! I just saw one NVIDIA Shield TV | 4K in Amazon.in costing Rs.25k. Is it worth buying? As of now I use only Amazon Firetv Stick for my streaming consumption which I feel is not meeting my requirments due to the low storage and no external USB input. Was searching for a good streaming Android device and stumbled upon this nVidia Shield TV. Is buying this for 25k worth it?

Hey Balaji! I was using a FireTV Stick 4k and as advertised by Amazon, no Dolby Atmos content was playing on it. So after analysing from almost an year, I bought the Apple TV 4k last month and it supports Dolby Atmos on almost every app that has Dolby Atmos content, like Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Tidal. The UI is definitely awesome. But if you want to play content that you locally have, Apple TV won't help you, you gotta play using your laptop or Desktop.

Would be a cheap solution. But unfortnuately i think this is not possible. You Just have to buy a Box exactly for this Kind of purpose.

No think Not, you have to use some sort of allwinnerchipset, Same as the ai Box cp600 is based on. Main Problem is you have to emulate carplay to get the device working with you Car. Just buy a ai Box cp600 over Ali. You get one around 160€.

I know that it is available on Ali but I can not purchase it as there are some Chinese goods are restricted to enter my country and this is one of them. This is the reason why I am asking my questions. I have another idea I hope it works. If the chipset inside these devices is Allwinner, I can get any device with Allwinner H6 chipset and I have this program and I can install it on this chipset. There are lots of Allwinner H6 chipset inside many of the tv boxes Sold here. I don't is this idea deserves the trial or not

Personally I think it's impossible. Android TV Box cannot be used as android box for car.
I just bought the Ownice Auto Ai Box, they provide two options from $129
A1 - Qualcomm Quad Core, 3G & 32GB, Android 11.0
A3 - Qualcomm Octa Core, 4G & 64GB, Android 9.0/10.0

Use the coupe code OWNICE15 you can get another $15 off at checkout, the price is really good compare with other carplay ai box in the current market.
Hello everybody,
I'm looking for some suggestions on hardware for a little project of mine.
I recently got my hands on a few Dynalink TV Boxes after discovering the great support of LineageOS on them here in the forum. Sadly, after some testing with the hardware I got, they seem to be off the market - out of stock everywhere since new year...
So, I'm looking for an alternative. Preferably in the same price range (30-40 bucks) and form factor and able to be flashed with Lineage or another clean ROM.
FireTV Stick Lite seemed promising, same price and decent performance out of the box. Sadly Amazon locked those very hard lately so there is currently no use for them.
I got a "Q96 Stick" of AliExpress but that thing is shady, lacks of performance and there seems to be no custom roms available soon.
So is there anything you could suggest?
Small, price around 30-40, Custom Rom available (Android 10+) or has clean stock OS, no need to be Android TV. No need for Netflix and other DRM stuff.
The project is a small digital signage, I just need to figure the hardware since the Dynalink boxes seems decommissioned.
PS: Idk if I got the right section of the forum, please be gentle.
Well I can't recommend one in that price range BUT be very careful, there's a huge thread on here about cheap android boxes that have built-in bot nets so be wary. They might even live in the system after flashing idk just be careful getting cheap android boxes

Yea I've heard that and that's why I'm very suspicious about this q96 Stick, stock OS is rooted, adb is active and don't ask for permission on new connections, it lies about it's specs and so on, so there is definitely something baked in deep.
On the Dynalink Box I don't sense a thread and idk I such would survive the flashing?
FireTV would be the best option, but not with the lockdown...

The tv box devices for which there are lineage builds are listed in the lineage thread. Most of those devices are dated, eol, or discontinued.
Why is lineage support important for your digital signage project? There are other similar S905Y2 and S905Y4 certified tv box devices that can be bootloader unlocked and rooted, but there are not lineage builds for these devices. Is root not enough? Your digital signage project also requires lineage?

No, Lineage is not required, a clean OS is. It has not to be Lineage. It would be a "nice to have".
If the stock one is clean or can be cleaned I'll be happy.
Clean is maybe the wrong term, more like trustable and somewhat up to date.
Root is also not required but would be nice.
What boxes are you talking about?

The way to get a clean build is to stay away from the generic boxes that have hobbled together mobile builds, and instead choose a certified device. In the tv box world, this means a device for which the ultimate oem is one of a few chinese manufacturers; sei, askey, or sdmc.
The nebula 4k streaming dongle (amazon B098BFDB41) has the same specs as the dynalink, but it is 49.99 US. It also uses the s905y2, which is on its way out. The nebula device runs android 10 and is made by sdmc.
The homatics lite 4k (amazon B0BNL1YS7V) has a s905y4 and 16gb storage, but it is 59.99 US. This device runs android 11 and is made by sei. In some ways the s905y4 is not quite as powerful as the s905y2 that it replaces, but the y4 does support av1.
The hako mini (amazon B0BFW3MMKJ) is the sdmc version of the homatics device. It is also 59.99 US.
The above devices often go on sale on amazon.
Okay that's a guideline.
If the SoC are on their way out that could mean there might be a successor for it and therefore for the Dynalink box (wich is made by Askey)
So I'll be patient and look at upcoming devices and also wait for an update on the locked FireTVs.
I still wonder, and don't meant to be rude or offensive, the marked is flooded with those cheap Allwinner based boxes and sticks but there is rarely an interest in this community on them? Why is that? Sure they're probably spiced with malware and what not but the hardware is cheap and available.
I don't know. I think the allwinner 616 is a junky cpu. Some of the others might be better. They aren't all that cheap.
Someone got most of the malware out of the 616 based t95. https://github.com/DesktopECHO/T95-H616-Malware

Yea I looked into that and was already monitoring the stick I got - nothing weird so far, at least on the network.
But still weird behavior with ADB and the fact it came rooted. Also spoofed specs like ram and storage.
