This phone has been released almost 8 years ago. Now, the specs of this phone is very low for heavy multi-tasking and also for online gaming.
Here, I'm sharing some things for better use of this phone which I achieved from my several years of experience by using this phone.
RECOVERYUse TWRP as recovery for this phone
ROOTRoot this phone for better user experience. Of course, use the Magisk root for better root experience.
Use this version of magisk root for Android 10
CUSTOM ROMAlready Android 13 has released (in 2023). But, It's hard to handle run Android 13 for J7.
For this device, there are plenty of Android 7 and Android 8 custom rom also. But, these roms are almost 6 years older.
Reccomendation:
So, I think Android 10 should be the best option. From my several years experience of using J7 custom rom, LOS 17.1(based on Android 10) is best. It makes balance between performance and modern-UI and time.

Android-9: Reurrection Remix 7.2
Android-10: Lineage OS 17.1
Android-11: LineageOS 18.1
KernelThere are some good kernal for J7. For LOS 17.1 Sandwitch Kernel is just beast.
Reccomendation:
For Gaming: Afterburner kernel (CPU 1.7 ghz)
For Android (9-12): Sandwich kernel
[LineageOS17.1+Sandwich Kernel]= Beast!
App Recommendations:
• App version- Use older version of medium-heavy Apps [like- use Kinemaster (use ver.2019), Picsart (use ver.2020)]
• Reccomended apps to use-
♦ Link2sd - App systemizer,uninstaller,clear cache (For android 7,8)
♦ Greenify- To stop/hibernate background app
♦ SDMaid- For clearing cache data
♦ Fstrim - For trimming cache data of device partition
♦ hKtweaks- Best kernel Manager for Exynos devices (Works better on Android 10+)
♦ GCam- Some features don't work [You can use Samsung Camera; doesn't work on some roms]
• Regular necessary apps to use-
♦ Google Dialer, Contacts, Messages
♦ Google Gallery
♦ Google Files (Video, Unzippping incld.)

Some Tips ♣ Remove the notification access from the launchers
♣ Power Off the phone and remove the battery then insert it; to get the correct the battery reading
♣ Clear the all cache data at least once in a week.

What is AOSP?
AOSP is Android as Google publish without other modifications. More or less AOSP is the Nexus devices stock rom without gapps.
Anyway to get a working system I added some changes from CodeAurora Forum and CyanogenMod. There are non-AOSP features also for a better user experience ("Clear All" button in Recents) and other features will not be added.
What is RRO?
RRO (Runtime Resource Overlay) which was designed by google and its modded by our developers to include it into AOSP ROMs.In short,RRO is a Theme Engine replacement and it can do wonders!

HOW TO INSTALL:
1. Download the ROM and the GApps and place them on your SD Card/Internal Storage.
2. Reboot phone to TWRP recovery.
3. Wipe data, cache(factory reset), dalvik/art cache and system.
4. Flash the ROM and GApps.
5. Wipe cache after gapps installation
6. Reboot System. (First boot takes 10-15 minutes. Be patient.)

1. Need the TWRP recovery
2. Enable USB debugging.
3. Go to recovery...Go to Wipe...Advanced wipe...select catche and delvik catche,.
*IMP NOT TO WIPE THE SYSTEM. IT WILL DO itself.
4. Go to install....select the zip where u locate it....flash the zip.....wait till it done (have patience)....Done...Reboot....First boot will take time so not to panic....done....enjoy.
5. If it ask to install su, dont allow it..
Haapy gaming.
After first boot if you face any problem then just reset it.....the ROM will work charm.

At each USB connection (to the computer) I have to change the USB mode ... is there no way to do it automatically ?

In fact it crashes every time (phone reboot)! it worked with DerpFest-12 manually but not for long !
I installed crDroidAndroid-12.1-20220409-a40-v8.4 + Eureka_R9.5_A405_AROMA-HMP same problem.
I installed lineage-19.1-20220409-UNOFFICIAL-a40 + NikGapps-core-arm64-12.1-20220501-signed same problem.
Finally I figured out how to enable Developer Options and disable USB Debugging... And it works fine !!
Why it tells me Android 12 for Lineage-19.1 and crDroidAndroid-12.1 ?

After installing Lineage-19.1 I made a backup with TWRP 3.6.2_9-0.
At the restoration, blocked the schema has changed !!!!
I just installed riceDroid-12.1-a40-202206161513-3310-v2.0-VANILLA + NikGapps-omni-arm64-12.1-20220705-signed
Build number : SQ3A220605009A1 (newer) it works great !
it's the copy of the backup on my hard disk then the restoration on the key ...
Or simply the fact of making a new backup (new system) on the key ... which causes the old backup to restore, blocked the schema changed !!!!
it feels the same to me on DerpFest-12...
The only solution that works is to remove all screen locks... it works normally !!!
my 2 cents:
I too have tried different ROMs. Most of them have one or more issues or are not stable at all.
Lineage 19.1 was promising but DAVx5 would not sync (seems to be a problem with Android 12) - I had this problem in the past too... does someone has insight into that? It seems to be a write permission problem but thats just me guessing.
