Hey all,
Thanks to a couple of other threads here on XDA I've got some of the OTA update zips for my Fossil Gen 6. However, I haven't been able to get any method I know of to successfully flash a zip. This includes trying to sideload a zip, trying many options with fastboot, and from within TWRP. Does anyone know what I should be doing to get them to flash?
On a related note, after unlocking the bootloader, I noticed various things no longer work properly on the watch. The main issues I've noticed are the light sensor and gyro/accelerometer aren't functional and that after relocking I can no longer boot. I assume that's from unlocking the bootloader, but can anyone confirm if I messed that up myself?

Some background on what I've done with the phone:
It came with B29 on it.
I used DrakenFX's BootStack and System files to downgrade it to B27
From there, I tried the steps in Tenfar's thread to root the phone without unlocking the boot loader.
I screwed something up along the way and after many hours, got my phone booting properly again and downgraded to B20.
From there, I followed the steps posted by mmamedov in tenfar's thread to actually get my phone rooted properly.
I'm pretty new to rooting and all this stuff since I'm jumping ship from iPhone, but I've done a bit of tinkering.
I don't quite understand where the "root" part resides and what updates would affect it.
Now, I'm on B20 but would like to upgrade to some of the newer versions. What are my options for doing that and would I have to wipe the phone to update?
Could I use the backup tool to flash the stock recovery instead of TWRP, and use the built in update through settings?
Or should I use TWRP and DrakenFX's newer BootStack/System files to update?
or something else?
Thanks

I've been going through a similar learning curve as you I think.
I recommend @DrakenFX's nearly stock rom.
You will need to unlock the bootloader (I'm pretty certain) I believe that is covered and/or linked in the rom's page.
If it doesn't make sense keep reading until it does, is the advice I gave to myself.
I'm pretty new to certain parts of all the options involved in rooting and bootloaders etc. but I believe that the bootloader can be relocked if you don't get it officially unlocked and you do it yourself, I haven't confirmed that yet so don't take my word for it.
I ran into confusion when I unlocked and had driver issues with fastboot but I got there.
DrakenFX had a few posts that are really helpful. I used his B29 image and bootstack after I had TWRP installed.
He has another TWRP unlock zip that allows unlocking with ADB and then fastboot.
I ran into issues like I said and posted in his bootstack thread if you'd like to see if my problems might shed some light. My post didn't prompt any meaningful conversation but my driver issues sorted themselves out so I didn't have to pursue it much further.
Sorry for the lack of links but I hope this helps in some way.
Here's the ROM from DrakenFX that is close to stock B29, it looks like it will evolve into Nougat, can't wait for that.

It's been a while since I unlocked my mobile's bootloader, following the steps of a you tube video specifically from the Tecnocat channel. Everything was going well until I thought I did not have any system because whenever I started it it went straight to recovery. Install roms and the same. Until I decided to go directly to the bootloader and start it from there. Of surprise it worked, there was no problem with the system. Everything works fine, but every time I turn off the phone and turn it on it starts in recovery and I have to boot it in fasboot mode and from there start the system. It's tedious, and for example I can not do restarts. I already reprimand the recovery from different sources, and I can not find a solution. Please help
Similar issue
I'm having a similar issue except mine started after mistakenly installing a OTA update (Sept. I think) on a xt1687. Rooted (magisk) with TWRP recovery on stock ROM. Every time I boot it goes into recovery mode, and the only way to get into the phone is through TWRP Reboot > Bootloader, then Start.
I tried flashing the latest stock ROM I could find, but still have the same issue. Only now I'm getting nagged with Install System Update New Version NPNS25.137-93-18. I know better now to follow the OTA update guides, but how do I get the phone back to the way it was before the update? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
First of all, I want to tell you that I'm not very familiar with rooting but have just a bit experience flashing custom roms, so please go easy on me.
I have done some research and found a couple things that I couldn't find answers for:
1) First one is that apparently you need your bootloader unlocked/ OEM unlocking enabled in developer options, however since I upgraded to Oreo in last August, that option disappeared. I've tried two methods for making it appear that I've found online (keeping phone up for 7 days straight and reverting time back) but none worked. I've read somewhere that if you downgrade to Nougat, enable it then re update to Oreo your bootloader will remain unlocked. So, can someone confirm this? Can you downgrade with a locked bootloader? And if so, can someone guide me through it? (Additional question: will the downgrade reset user data?)
2) After unlocking bootloader you need to flash TWRP but I have so many questions on that. First: I couldn't find a TWRP for oreo. Does it work regardless of os version? Second: I found a guide from XDA that is written long ago, and it says "make a full backup of your system, including EFS before flashing". How do you backup without flashing it tho? All guides are about using either a custom recovery or rooted app.
3) Do you really need TWRP? I mean, can't you flash Magisk via Odin/ADB directly, perhaps without unlocking bootloader? What happens if I use install command from ADB?
4) So does tripping knox fuse achieve anything other than killing the nonexistent system updates and samsung guarantee? I want to make sure Samsung health is going to operate.
Let me start by saying that I know there are multiple posts and comments around surrounding this topic, but I almost damaged my phone once since not all the instructions apply to everyone's situation. So I am hoping someone can help me with the details I am giving of my phone, which I want to give to my mom now and she doesn't need any fancy customizations.
I am using the Pie Pixel Experience ROM with the December security patch and also rooted with Magisk. What I need to do is be able to unroot the phone and install to it the latest available official build for the device and lock the bootloader. Also I remember when I did all the process of installing this ROM that it has two partitions (in case this affects in anything the process of going back to stock).
So if anyone could help me out with a step by step explanation (and resources) I would be truly thankful.
Flash stock pie by miflash, you find it on xda, be careful to take fastboot image pie!
Just get twrp flashable stock rom and flash it..... This will flash stock rom and as well as stock recovery on your phone... Plus you will aslo recive stock ota updates
Hi i've spent all of yesterday evening trying to piece together what to do from a bunch of threads and websites but really struggling.
I hope someone is willing to help me.
last year i successfully installed Oreo B01. I followed some random guides off Reddit and somehow after a lot of trouble and false starts, got it working.
I unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP 3.2.1-6 'by NFound', and updated to B01.
The TWRP version is weird, for some reason some of the buttons in 'advanced' section look like its in russian writing, and If i go to Advanced>More>Root and try and flash either Magisk or SuperSU, it doesn't work.
It says 'Error updating zip file '/rootdev/unmagisk.zip' and i cannot root the phone.
I want to install the latest B04 update OR even try Lineage OS 16, Or the Pixel experience ROM, or any other ROM.
Ideally i just want to install a Pie based ROM.
However I am nervous because it looks like you have to have the right bootloader to install the right things, or the right versions of TWRP to install certain things, and it is all very confusing.
Everyone on here seems to have about 10 different ways of doing things and i'm getting really lost in every single thread I read. Use EDL mode, No need to use EDL. Use the toolkit, Don't use the toolkit, use command prompt and fastboot, But my fastboot is broken, what fastboot do i need, etc..etc.etc............my brain is melting.
Can someone please explain which version of TWRP do i need to install any of the above?
Can i just install a new version fo TWRP and it will overwrite previous?
Can I install B04 or any another ROM from the same TWRP version or do i need different TWRPs/Bootloaders for different things?
EDIT: I also appear to have a broken fastboot - I have the same problem this guy has, first post.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/help/help-fastboot-mode-missing-t3844466
so i'm worried if i try and flash a new TWRP it'll mess everything up because its not right the way it is now - even though i can get into recovery, i can't get into fastboot???
Then i'm even more confused - about all this 'use EDL' .......i don' thave an EDL cable, do i really need to buy one and install stuff in these modes?
