Hello everyone!
I'm struggling with LiveTV apps on my tvs.
Those apps does't have user friendly menus and facourites pages etc.
Can you guys share (may be with pictures) yor Android TV make, model, and TV tuner app, please?
I can say that Phillips LiveTV app justa scan and put all channels in 1 list, you have favourites list, which you access by, pressing OK>yellow>Type>Favourites>ok, which is so annoying!!!
My Tesla tv has decent LiveTV app with nice groups for channls, which are infront of you just by pressing OK, then you name geoups - Movies - Music - Kids etc. and it is great for user.
Qhat about other brands Live%V apps?
I have a crappy Iranian tv called "Gplus". The channel list (accessed by the LIST button) is just a small list of TV and radio channels but when you press the directional keys, you access the groups you talked about

Hi,
On longer trips I want to use my Xoom as a movieplayer in the car for the kids. I'm looking for a kidfriendly-way to display the movies (large icons or something like that) so they can easily navigate and start a movie. My oldest is 6 years.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance !
Moboplayer
I'm a big fan of mobo player. You can set it to check certain directories as default and it displays thumbnails to choose from. My just turned four year old can navigate it no problem. The other cool thing is that while a movie is playing you can hit the menu button and it will lock the screen until you hit menu again.
Best of all its free. Load up the app in the market and the first time you start it it will prompt you to download device specific files.
One more thing - if for some reason the hardware decoding isn't playing a file just hold down the file and it will give you a prompt to play it with software decoding. If it becomes a constant problem you can set software decoding as the default.
I use MovieBrowser HD as the front end, and Mobo player with its codecs (that it will download when you first launch it) to play the movies back. I have a 32gig uSD card loaded up with movies convered via DVD Catalyst 4.
My 3 year old can turn on my Xoom, unlock it, connect my Logitech BT stereo head set, find MovieBrowser HD app (no matter if I have an icon on the home screen, or he has to go to the app drawer), and launch whatever movie he's in the mood for. He even goes up to my room to grab it when he wants to watch a movie.
When I hang it over a "seat back protector/organizer" in the car it becomes my "rear seat entertainment center" for him. Glad I didn't spend the money on the rear seat DVD system option in my car (would have been an added $3000). He just reaches out and does what he needs to, and he's happy.
Unfortunately, I rarely get to use my Xoom now
I found it easier to use the stock video player. Spent $30 on any DVD converter for android it converts the files and optimizes for Xoom. Then I did not need to worry about codecs and why it won't play an MKV file today. Also found it kid friendly with big pictures from the beginning of the movie so most of the time they can identify what it is without having to read the title.

MX Player !!!
Just yesterday I installed the newest MX Player again to see what kind of feature set it has. And I don't even know how new it is but it actually has two separate "Kid Lock" modes.
So, in the Settings->Player->Touch Controls->Lock Mode
There are two options:
1) Kids Lock - locks out the screen and buttons (except for power and volume at least on my Galaxy Nexus)
2) Kids Lock (+ Touch Effects) - Same as kids lock, except it adds ToddlerLock style screen effects.
I hope this helps!

Click to collapse
1. Go to the screen where you want to place the movie shortcut.
2. Find your ES File Explorer App. And open it.
3. Find your folder that has your digital movies and open it.
4. Find the movie you want to create a shortcut with and long press it.
5. Next you will see different options, chose the one that says “Shortcut” it will automatically place it on the screen.
6. Now back all the way out of ES File Explorer until you get to the desktop.
7. Long press the shortcut you just made, and choose edit.
8. You will see a box pop up along with the keyboard. Type the name you want to call it or just delete the file extension example (mp4, etc)
9. Next tap the big icon to change it and choose select picture, then Gallery, then you should see the movie Icon you have downloaded select it then hit OK.
To find the movie icons just do a Google search for the movie (Example: Fast and the Furious 2 icons)
http://www.fanpop.com/spots/the-fast-and-the-furious-movies/images
I always use Fanpop.com and once you get on the movie page there is usually a movie banner at the top of the page and to the left of the banner there is a picture of the movie. Just long press and chose view image, it will open up to a small picture in the upper left hand corner. Long press and choose “Save Image”. It should place it your gallery folder. You should probably do this first before you create shortcuts for your movies.
I'm thinking of getting a Shuttle slim pc to hook up to my TV and use it as a media center. Unfortunately, WMC is gone from Windows 8, and even if you get it as an addon, it isn't that great....
Apps like Multimedia 8 are nice, but involve a lot of clicking, which can be tedious on the TV. So why not pin everything to the start screen?
Pinning your favourite TV shows, Albums, Artists, Movies, Internet Radio Stations to the start screen gives you access to all the entertainment you could want in a very quick and easy way. While getting meta data from last.fm, thetvdb, imdb etc, make the experience look great
I've created a quick mockup in photoshop to demonstrate how it might look.
Let me know what you think. unfortuately, despite my interest in IT, I went to medschool, so I can't program this myself (I did try though, but didnt get anywhere).
So if any dev likes the idea , I'd be happy to discuss my ideas
I just switched to the S4 from many years of an iPhone, and I really love it, but I have a few questions.
If I go to my gallery and select a picture, I can press a button on the top that shares my picture to my Samsung Smart TV, and it shows up right on the TV screen. However, if I go to a video I recorded on my phone, that "share" button goes away and I'm not able to view it on my screen. I thought you were able to share pictures, videos, music, etc. with the TV? Any ideas?
I don't have a clock option in my Daydream settings. I see all over the internet that there should be a clock option, and it can be used as a bedside light, etc. However, my only options are: beanflinger, colors, flipboard, photo frame, and photo table. I really would like to use the clock. I am not sure why it isn't there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much.
for video the only way i've found to do it so far is using samsung link (phone app) on the phone and enable sharing. then i use a samsung tv with allshare preinstalled. the allshare picks up the mobile (or any other share device) and use the tv to navigate thru connected devices media
This outlines a solution to people with Android 4.1 and above who previously could stream their Audiobook collection to their Phone/Tablet using ICS or earlier.
There are a lot of threads about 'user access' to CIFS/SMB having been 'broken' in JellyBean, and giving very useful suggestions to fix this, but all seem to require a 'rooted' device. I suspect in most cases it is the inability to select and stream Audio/Video files from a networked source which is a main cause for concern.
This solution will work without root access.
Prior to JellyBean one could often point an Audio Book player to a shared folder on a computer or NAS, and access a collection of audio files from a folder on an external device. This is no longer possible for most of the players currently available.
I recently bought a Tablet running Android 4.2.2, and have tried many players, up till now, without success. Of course one can still transfer all files for a particular book to your device, and play them that way, but this is wasteful of time and device memory if you have your collection on a networked system.
Some 'File Managers' can access your networked audio/video files, but invariably will stop playing at the end of the selected file. Not much good for Audio Books.
Today I found a free App that solves this issue.
'Network Audio Player', (NAP) available free from PlayStore has built in CIFS/SMB networking capabilities.
It will identify your network WORKGROUP, and you can select/play individual files, and more importantly a whole directory for addition to the programs 'Playlist'.
The program remembers the last file and it's position, essential for listening to Audio books, and you can quickly manipulate your files. Audio files will play in the background.
The only thing it lacks is a 'sleep timer', which is very useful for book listening. All is not lost, however, there is another free application available to do this, called 'Sleep Timer'. So once your Audio Book is playing, just open 'Sleep Timer', set how long you want it to operate, and at the end of that time it automatically 'pauses' the audio play.
The 'Network Audio Player' interface is not, in my opinion, as easy to use as a dedicated Audio Book player, but not difficult. The 'trick'' is to select 'Network', then navigate to the folder containing the audio book you want to listen to , but do NOT open the folder. Highlight the entry, with a long press, then select 'Add to playlist'. Then select the Playlist option, and choose your file where you want to start. Finally select 'Playing' and all the controls you need are displayed, including volume and position sliders, plus play/pause and navigation buttons.
The above is equally applicable to music files of course.
Owners of Archos Tablets already have network (SMB) access via 'Archos Music', and this is also available as a 'paid' App. This is mostly satisfactory for Audio Books, in combination with 'Sleep Timer', but it does not remember the last track/position once it has been closed, so not ideal.
Playing video files via a Network, on JellyBean is catered for by many available standard File Apps such as Easy File Explorer, where the playing of just one file at a time is less problematic than accessing the multiple files of an Audio Book. Once Again, Archos Tablets have the Archos Video Player as standard, which allows the viewing and playing of network share files. It too can be purchased as a paid APP.
I hope this proves useful to Audio Book fans. It solved my problem very nicely.
Quick Update
The Network Audio Player now has a built in Timer.
As far as I can tell it is still the only App that has built in cifs/smb functions, which will operate on KitKat and later, allowing network access, selection and playback of Audio Book files/folders without having to download them to your device first.
Although it is still advertised only as a music player, it functions excellently with Audio Books.
Hi, I have searched everywhere on the net, asked (neck-scratching) people in shops and have not been able to find information about it, though it seems a fair enough feature to ask for:
Is there a smartwatch out there on which you can view and scroll in a music playlist on a SMARTPHONE (not the watch itself) and select tracks on that playlist + control the volume, fast forwards/backwards, etc. there (on the phone)?
Perhaps it is a quetion of installing the right app on the watch and/or phone? I would really appreciate some help on that. The watch wouldn't have to be fancy in anything else, could be basic, though it would be nice if it were not too big. I want to use it to play music on the phone for dance classes. The phone would be connected to a stereo system.
Cheers
