Hi all,
I have the HTC Shift and i really love the on screen keyboard and the possibility, to scroll the internet explorer with the finger like on pda phones with the opera mini, f.e.
Now I have a touchscreen on my HTPC and I am thinking, if it is possible, to do the same trick on this pc! Does somebody know, which software do I have to install?
Thanks a lot,
dabra
You need a version of Vista that comes with Tablet PC software add ons.
I don't know if there is a way to get this for Vista Premium. I would like to get it for my laptop as the on-screen keyboard of Tablet PC is superiour when it comes to multiple languages.
you can get the on screen keyboard in the following location of windows
%SystemRoot%\system32\osk.exe
Thanks, but I am searching for that one, I use on the HTC Shift. It is not the windows keyboard, that is too small and not so good. I don`t think, that it has to do with the windows version, cause now I have on the Shift Windows 7 Ultimate and if I am not wrong, it was to see on the screen after I installed all of the drivers form the HTC Homepage for the Shift. So I think, one of these software/driver ist it.
Anybody knows it more specific?

Vista Ultimate comes with all Tablet Functionality. And the installation should have recognized your touch screen and installed all the necessary drivers for it. Open your device manager and see what it says and fix the necessary drivers if it is giving a warning.
Thanks

Hello-
I have the Windows 8 Preview installed on a Dell XT2. Everything about the touch screen works except I can not actually select or execute anything with my finger. I can scroll, pan and pinch to zoom and I can select and execute with my pen. Additionally, when I touch a tile it reacts as if it is about to execute, it just doesn't.
Things I have tried:
-Install latest N-Trig package (dpinst.exe from the installer package) using win 7 and win vista compatibility modes.
-Removed all drivers and performed screen firmware rollback using the tool from N-trig. This caused the screen to become completely inoperative.
I understand this is a Developer preview but I am intrigued to get it working.
My partial solution-
I downloaded the XP drivers from the n-trig support site. I extracted the files from the install and reran the DPINST.exe but that didn't work. I then uninstalled the existing drivers from Windows 8 and then reinstalled the exe right from N-Trig. I ran it in XP compatibility mode and it forced a reboot and then reran the install upon boot up. Interesting that I now have multi-touch in Windows 8 but I no longer have multi-touch in Windows 7 (I am dual booting). I am okay with that since I only use the pen in Windows 8 so I just shut touch off in the pen and touch settings. The pen works great in Windows 7 and both the pen and touch work great in Windows 8.
Thanks for the input on this issue.

double tap to select text
tap on what you select to copy and edit anything...
some tiles don't work but things like ie, social and metro do work
as does weather, 5 and a few games
I have a dell xt2 and save from apps, everything works
Also chrome sucks for finger input, stick with IE
I'm in the same boat with this issue. Will let you know if I fix it though...
Touchsmart TX2Z
Hi all
Same result on HP Touchsmart TX2Z. Must be N-Trig drivers in Win 8.
Cheers

Interestingly, the extract/DPINST method worked for me (on XT2). This morning it was working perfectly with multitouch and pen (although pen was overly sensitive).
Sadly, this evening I booted back into Win7 for the first time since installing Win8 and now touch in Win8 seems to be completely broken (even after a cold boot). It still works fine in Win7, so doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. Ah well, was nice while it lasted!
UPDATE: I disabled the "Duosense Secondary Interface" driver and reset the primary MultiTouch driver and hey presto, back in business. The multitouch is almost as smooth as a dedicated tablet (do have the odd touch recognition issue at the corners of the screen though) and I'm loving the interface actually - there's even a "Share" function like Android's when you swipe in from the right of the screen!
As long as Metro is made optional for all the traditionalists and poor saps with no touchscreen, Win8 is going to be the most popular MS product ever I reckon.

Hi guys,
So I have an Apple Magic Trackpad and use a PC. I just installed windows 8 and can't get the trackpad to work. I can pair it with my PC, but then Windows asks for a passphrase and that makes no sense to me...unless I'm missing something?
How can I get my magic trackpad to work? I'm typing on an Apple keyboard right now...that installed without any issues. The function keys don't do anything but that's only a minor inconvenience.
Any ideas? Has anybody figured out how to use the trackpad on a windows PC running windows 8?
Thanks!

You can.I'm using it right now. Re-install the mac drivers you created when you installed your bootcamp partition.
I downloaded the latest synaptics drivers 16.2.16.2 and a lot of things work right edge swipe, top edge swipe but not left edge swipe. Every version of synaptics I tried didn't work with left edge. Anyone know why?
The problem has been fixed by this guy "smjameel93" There a registry file that needs editing here is the download you just import this to your registry after removing .txt at the end of file.

You're very lucky to have Synaptics. My ALPS trackpad doesn't even have a Windows 8 driver now or later. I'm forced to install the Windows 7 ones. Anyways, what is the brand of your PC? I suggest you downloading Sony's drivers. http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/520553/product/vpcsa36gg
You can install Synaptics drivers for other touchpads. I tried it on a different computer, it worked. But it has Windows 7.

tried them is said only works for sony viao computers.
My laptop is HP
I don't think the driver is out yet. I have an HP Probook 4530s with a Synaptics touchpad. Searching online I find a section on Synaptics website detailing the Windows 8 Gesture Suite but there are no download links or user reports anywhere. Therefore I think we just have to wait a little longer for the drivers to come out.
see http://www.synaptics.com/solutions/touch-solutions/sgs and http://blog.synaptics.com/?p=85
Hopefully it'll be along soon.
16.2.16.2 is exactly the one I had tried as well. There is nothing newer. You'll get right swipe and that's just about it until they release the new drivers.
I've also tried probably 10 different versions of drivers, including a beta Lenovo Win8 Synaptics ultranav driver. Didnt work.

16.2.16.2 seems to be the very last one. But actually the left edge works on my Envy14, however it doesn't on my Vaio VPC Z1. i suppose it's because the Envy has one of those big touchpad whereas the Z1 Touchpad is still the small one. Anyway even with 16.2.10 12 driver that came in august, the left swipe still works on the Envy

When I try and install the 16.2.16.2 drivers on my hp Pavilion dv6, it says Could not find the os specific setup program. Any ideas or is it incompatible?
Try the one for the HP Pavilion G6-1c43nr. It works with that one
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
So left swipe not working is because of the touchpad area size?
The latest one available from the Synaptics site works. Left swipe, right swipe, top swipe, etc.

Hi!
For me the latest drivers doesn't give me the ability to use the swipe left gesture. But top and right ones work perfectly.
I have a Dell Studio 1747. Do you have any idea if there is a way to make it work?
Thanks!

Some people are saying it has to do with the larger area touchpads --> newer laptops seems to have a bigger touchpad, perhaps the option is cut off because of the smaller pads?

My thinkpad has a pretty small trackpad but it works fine.

Mine isn't big. It is around 10 cm wide. But I don't think it can be considered as small, so I don't understand. Maybe a solution or a workaround could be find.
Mine to does not work with latest 16.2.21 I think. Maybe a reg edit would fix?
can someone give me the 16.2.21 zip? i can't download it from synaptics site, cannot connect to the site
Try this link

Hey,
I have XPS10, RT-baset tablet. When I'm at home, I'm often using Remote desktop into my x86 laptop running 8.0 Pro x64. It has no touch support, although using RDP there's 5 finger multitouch from tablet.
The only problem comes with touch keyboard. RDP forces to use "remote" touch keyboard. But it appears much smaller - it uses only around 1/3 height of screen, when RT one is almost half of it.
I think it's Metro DPI related problem, there's even article about is in MS KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2824027
But setting this value in registry changes nothing. When I open touch keyboard on my 22" (non touch, but who cares) LCD, it has the same physical(!) dimensions as on XPS10, but when I connect via RDP it still remains small.
Do anybody else have the same behavior here? It should be visible when connecting any two devices that has some Win8 edition and different physical DPI.
