Hi,
I have just bought a new car and it came with android (4.4.4) multimedia system, I am not sure which brand.
It has some basic apps which were pre-installed, and I can't add anything else. There is no play store on the device (or maybe not accessible). It doesn't have any file explorer nor web browser.
The car importer company decided to block everything on the device and refuses to give the password for unblocking it.
Is there a way for me to overcome this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I’m looking at the Fire HD 8 Tablet mentioned at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J94SWWU → I know that this is Amazon’s modification of Android and it cannot be rooted. However, I’m wondering if anyone can provide information about:
1. Google Play Store Apps:
I know that you can install Google Play Store Apps on this device if you jump through the hoops. For those who have done this, do you see problems with Apps not functioning as compared to a tablet with regular Android? i.e. Are apps on the Google Play Store incompatible with this device? If yes, what are the popular reasons for their incompatibility? Are there any problems with Google Play Store or Google Apps that I need to be aware of?
2. USB OTG Support:
I’m wondering if someone can provide information about USB OTG Support for this device? (I know this provides a microSD slot, but I’m curious if I could mount my USB Drives on this?)
Thank you,
O. O.

RE Google Play: Some apps when installed via the Play Store may try to redirect you to the App Store on rare occasions when you click items within the app, like to buy pro features. As with any device, not all apps in the Play Store are compatible with every single known device. Though in some cases, if not compatible via the Store, or not listed, you can always try side loading an APK.
Yes the HD 8 does support USB OTG. There are also apps to check that as well like Droid Hardware Info. install > open > memory > USB OTG Supported = Yes. You need a special adapter called USB OTG Cable in order to use an USB drive, physical keyboard, external hard drive etc. They are pretty cheap. These on Amazon are compatible.
Thank you very much DragonFire1024 for confirming that app compatibility would be similar to a normal android device as long as we are ready to do things like sideloading apps. I also understand that every app is not compatible with every device. Thank you also for confirming USB OTG functionality.
Thanks again,
O. O.
P. S. Just after I posted this, it seems that this tablet jumped $20. No clue why??

If I am not mistaken, it had been on sale for a bit.
Has anyone successfully used a HUION Kamvas 13 on a kindle fire hd 8? I'm able to use this drawing display on my note 9 using a power bank and a usb-C cable, but I tried it on my kindle and it freaked out claiming I put liquid in the USB-C port???
Hi! I recently purchased a mi box instead of fire TV stick as I thought both have same apps (based on Android) plus mi box has USB port and Google cast BUT now I see that Amazon fire stick has many exclusive apps which are NOT available in Google play store for example, Gaana, Airtel Movies, TVF Play, etc.
So I was wondering if any of you good guys here could extract the APK from your FIRE device and upload it for us to try!
I guess few will work even in android TV. Airtel movies/TV app is a great add-on and Gaana too.
I will update the list of few exclusive apps if anyone is interested in helping out.
One can easily pull APK from fire TV as it has a USB port but for those who have fire stick can follow any of these two methods to fulfill the work.
GUIDE TO EXTRACT APK.
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I am thinking how nice it would be to work with my new Shield TV box, connected to the family TV set downstairs, from my PC in my upstairs study.
Is anything like that possible?
I mean installing applications, trying and configuring launchers, and the like.
I use a program called AdbLink for the PC, or on Android you can use Easy Fire tools I believe is the name. ADB link you can do just about anything. EFT can be used to install apks on your Android device.
Hi there,
I have inherited a Panasonic TV model TX-58DX780 which I believe is from year 2016. The operating system is Firefox OS, which is discontinued. The app market is pretty limited, obviously.
I would like to know whether it's possible to install Android TV in this device, so as to erase the original Firefox OS and having the same system as I would have if I bought a TV today running Android TV. I haven't found any references online about how to do this in my specific device.
This is my first smart TV. I have installed Linux from scratch in some computers over the years, but I'm not a developer and I have no clue about TVs. I'm assuming the process can be similar: booting the TV from a USB drive containing the new OS to be installed.
A second question is whether this is actually worthy: if it's going to be a can of worms, perhaps I'll be better off with just buying a Chromecast? My purpose is not to experiment, but to have a TV with a OS that I can use to install modern apps.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
Cheers, Manuel
