It's been almost a month we have received the stable Android 13 update on the Nothing Phone 1 and since then we haven't heard anything new or exciting about the product from the Nothing team. Matter of fact, Phone 1 still running on the two months old January 2023 Security Patch. So the question is, is that's all for the Phone 1 ?
I don't think Android 13 was the last Trump Card from the Nothing team.
What's your take. I'd love to know the opinion of the enthusiastic

I got Android 13 in Eu/Poland a little over 2 weeks ago during the official rollout. So not a month in my case
As for features - I would like to get tap and peek to view AoD feature (kind of similar to what motorola is doing). AoD constantly running and lighting up the screen is a kind of waste of battery IMO.
More frequent security and optimisation and feature update would be nice....maybe some more updates to camera? Updating the Nothing weather app to give weather without using location and GPS would be a good idea for me.

I'm totally with you about AOD, even I've dm the Nothing official account on Instagram about it. A touch to wake the AOD and a double tap to wake the screen would be perfect.

Let's see what Nothing updates
I would like to see WiFi 6E at some stage
WiFi 6E is not possible due to modem radio chip . Double tap for ON/OFF the screen is implemented in 3rd launcher apk .
Phone personalization is minimal by default so I don't see in the future other huge changes . In fact this thred posted here is awkard . For sure there are lot of optimisations to do but all are redundant for this particular phone . NOS is minimal , the look is unique and these are the facts made the Nothing Phone so attractive . NO isn't a camera phone or a gaming one , it is simply a phone and that is maybe a good thing for mantainance , updates and so on .
"What's next ? " maybe is the big question for NO 2 .
I'll like an extreme battery saving like Samsung or Xiaomi, sometime I forget to charge my phone and until I find a charger it takes time.

What are you talking about? The Snapdragon 778G Plus has built in WiFi 6E, and in fact i've been in touch with Nothing and they've confirmed that 6Ghz is there, but disabled in software.

You're right !
Snapdragon 778G Plus has Qualcomm® FastConnect™ 6700 System which enables Wi-Fi 6 , 6E connectivity and Bluetooth 5.2
" The FastConnect 6700 is an advanced 14nm 2x2 Mobile Connectivity system that is designed to accelerate premium Wi-Fi connectivity for mainstream smartphone and computing devices. By extending the power of Wi-Fi 6 into the 6 GHz band (Wi-Fi 6E), the FastConnect 6700 supports Wi-Fi speeds approaching 3 Gbps, ultra-low latency and multi-user feature innovation delivered to new and clean 6 GHz spectrum. "
So my mistake ...
All good, i like it when a man can admit to a mistake!

Hi there,
So I have been using N7000 quite a while now - 2 years or so. And I discovered one, very annoying thing about new versions of android - each one seems to be worse in terms of usability and desktop space usage then the previous one...
Lets start with GB roms - there was 5x5 launcher in home screen and 6x5 in app menu + very useful bottom app dock that visible from desktop (home screen) and app screen. Also - each screen had a number that was shown in the bottom, so you knew where you were.
See picture: gb.jpg taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424401 here
Next version - ICS has cut some rows of icons in the app menu and completely deleted bottom app dock. And where the hell is screen number gone? Why??
The good thing about ICS was decent performance and quite good battery life. - Actually, the best one so far on n7000
See picture ics.jpg taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923817
JellyBean - same story less apps rows, everything seems to have more room for itself but it causes more screens and more swyping gestures. 4x4 in home screen is a joke. Having so big screen and using so little of it is pointless. I do not know what were they thinking designing the layout! And how did they manage to release so bugged software causing all kernel wakelocks destroying our batteries?
And finally - KitKat which follows the same direction - less icons in the screen, more touches to get you where you want.
Now regarding AOKP that everybody seems to love here - there is no support of very 'basic' apps that Samsung offers in stock TW roms:
- fm radio
- video calls via 3g
- s note
I can understand that s-note is the samsung specific app, but video calls and fm radio not being supported in 2014 AOKP KitKat roms is regress...
I recon that the next version of Android will have 1 icon and 1 icon for 1 screen - containing 12 screens.
We are putting ourselves in the custody of trying simplify things which are simple enough. Many other examples would be some of the google apps - Talk regressed to Hangouts, Maps regressed to new maps, and simple search app regressed to google now that everybody hates. And did I mention it takes 1 home screen when you swipe left on several devices?
I do not want be involved in the discussion of every single mistake google / samsung / communicy have made. I just wanted to point that the way, we are being directed is clearly a wrong way ahead!

Wow what an analysis. Yes ur right about everything u have said. Each new version of android shows so low mininum hardware requirement, which is not true because once the rom is released its much bigger in size than the previous one. I would like android to get updates like linux. Each edition getting a parallel update. Newer devices gets the newer edition and older devices should get the update of the edition they are already on.
The best performance my note showed was
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
To an already brilliant post the only thing missing was this statement based on a razor-sharp mind and an unmatched intellectual spirit.
brilliant post. brilliant analysis. plus there are now more non responsive google. same goes for force closing of apps
Hi guys!
I know there are some old threads about tap2wake feature and so on. But I want to point your attention to a different perspective: gestures. Wouldn' it be useful to launch some apps (camera, google translate, whatsapp, qr code scanner etc) from a simple gesture on your screen when it is off? I think it would be. I'm not a dev, just an android enthusiast. I have no idea how much the implementation of these features can be difficult. But I l'd like to have some opinions by someone who know more than me about the principal difficulties to realize it. If I'm not wrong Nexus 5 has these features(at least tap2wake) thanks to elementalX kernel, it has snapdragon 800 as note 3, so i think it would be possible to implement. Just curious, I'm not saying "please do this, my life depends on it", I'm feeling really good with my note 3 as it is, but I think it would be useful and cool[emoji13] [emoji13].
I asked this a while ago but got no response So i don't know if it even possible to do so, I think the devs knew that the digitzer couldn't be turned out with out the display being on. saying that it's an amoled display so displaying black on it, makes it turned off. But i'm no Kernel Developer so i don't know much about the Kernel
Maybe you're right about amoled. But I tried Knockr app, that puts your screen black and you can use gesture with "screen off" or blacked screen. So I think digitizer is on and screen is off, but as app is in memory and active it keeps wakelocks keeping CPU at high frequencies. So it will drain the battery, and it is not such a good thing. Surely a kernel solution would be more battery friendly, avoiding cpu wakelocks or at least putting cpu at lowest frequencies.
Yep
As already stated, it would require kernel-level support, and even then, would likely be an increased drain on the battery. There's no reason it couldn't be done, though.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the idea. I'd rather use lock screen shortcuts. It only takes a fraction if a second to press a button and bring up the lock screen, and there's no worrying about accidentally inputting any 'gesture' while the phone's in your pocket. But that's just my opinion...
About gestures in your pocket I think it will be quite difficult since we had a capacitive touchscreen, at least I never had such problem. But you're right if you can customize your lockscreen shortcut launch an app won't take too long. But you need to have the possibility to customize your lockscreen shortcuts like in cm-based ROMs. For example I really like TW lockscreen, I don't want any third part app to replace it. By the way, thanks to say your opinion, have different points of view is a good thing.[emoji6]
So I'm asking to myself why nobody implement this feature, if it is possibile, maybe development will take too much time for a feature few people wants.
You're probably right about not having to worry about activating gestures in your pocket. Like I said, I've never tried such a thing. That was just the first thought that came to mind lol.
TW does actually have native lock screen shortcuts that are somewhat customizable, but it takes a bit of work to make it functional (at least on my device).

I haven't seen it enabled in any ROMs by default, but it may be on some other devices. I've been playing around with it on my Note 3 running Alliance, but I don't have it quite 100% functional yet.

I connected my phone on pc companion but it said that there is no new update available
Nothing in the UK as of yet, OTA or companion wise.
First impression :
- UI is still the same, nothing changed
- Contacts pictures now displaying correctly with different dpi
-Very fast animation and app switching, feels much smoother than Lollipop at 320 dpi
- Cannot see discharge rate with AIDA64 anymore
- Brightness issue fixed
- Dialer has a new layout and pictures are centered
- Camera interface looks almost the same ... ?
- Fingerprint now much better and unlocking almost everytime
- No heat whatsoever and battery still doing well, actually looks a bit better but need to confirm
- Again much faster and smoother !!!!! and I have 81 apps installed
-Do not disturb option
- SD card not combined with internal memory whatsoever
- Version 6.0

Autobrightness fixed????? Not totally for me....it seems go faster to a "normal condition"...but when i unlock the phone (expecially with Style Cover - Aqua Green) the iussue is still present.
OMG 10-15% better score in Antutu Benchmark on my Z5P !! Faster than the Note 5
No update via Sony PC Com in Deutschland......
There was some Lag after updating so i installed clean one and things got much much better...
there is few things changed i think it wasnt mentioned
* icon can change size big or small and there is new settings for home screen with some options.
* Wonder now if we can have 4k Netflix and Youtube as Android M now support 4K or we might need wait updates for the apps to support it !

Nitrogen OS was the best ROM I started to like on this Redmi Note 3. Now with the new 8.1 Oreo update, the performance and stability on this device is much better than MIUI. So, Intantly I took my camera and this is my take on the NOS 8.1 for Redmi Note 3. First of all, I customized this phone with Pixel Launcher and reduced the pixel density as prefer to read more on a screen at once.
I used this ROM for like 2 weeks and what I felt was, this is was the best ROM upgrade from the previous NOS nought version. The previous version had problems like SIM detection problem, and lags. As said, the ROM is based on Oreo 8.1. So you get the oreo features like Picture in Picture mode for YouTube, new emojis, smart text selection and redesigned settings menu.
You get to to play with lot of gestures like double tap to switch to previous app and brightness control by sliding over the status bar. These can all be customized in the settings.

But then one problem I noticed on this was display color and sound volume. The screen was not that vivid and sound was too low, so I had to install Agni kernel to fix that. After that, I felt like battery backup and also the charging time had inproved. However, This time the Picture in Picture mode stopped working.I got battery backup of about 5-6 hours and sometimes 7 hours. Charging time was again 2 hours. It could run almost 4 apps in the background without refreshing in my 2gb variant. It was much better than the MIUI ram management, so I liked it.
I won't say that this ROM is entirely lag free. However, it's better than MIUI according to me. You could easily switch between the app's and multitask using split screen. That was indeed a useful feature.
The pre-installed stock camera is not good at all. You can actually get the best camera performance of this Redmi Note 3 using Google HDR+ camera, which I would be reviewing in detail in a few days.
It that worth the review. You don't have the problem of auto exposure and the quality of image that comes out is really good, Although you don't cannot take slow motion video in this app.
Caffeine was one of my favorite toggle which helped me in keeping the screen ON for a prescribed time.
Since this ROM is under development, you can experience small bugs like overlapping notifications on clock during Ambient display. Instagram would crash atleast once in a day specially if you are using its camera. Also, PicsArt was little laggy on this.
Other that that, the call quality and daily web browsing did not all face any issue. VoLTE works, and Goodix also works on this ROM. What doesn't work is VoLTE Video Calling which hopefully would be fixed in the upcoming updates.:fingers-crossed:

Gaming performance and memory optimization
Hei, can you show us the gaming performance of the current ROM version, ive tried this oreo version rom and the nougat stable version is better at gaming (my current rom), my thoughts is the oreo version rom can't optimize the memory while playing games, lagging so bad, but when you play games after rebooting it, it playing smoothly (but still going to lag overtime). Yea the point is can you give your thoughts about gaming performance and memory management of this rom?
Thanks

it seems the AOD function is broken with this update, now the clock won't update with real time nor the notification icons.
The temperorary solution is to use power saving mode which will dim the AOD display unless you hold/move the phone, then the time/icons will update again.

Well, i got my update a few minutes later. Update seems stable. Yet to verify the update log claims
BEWARE!
The newest update brings this bloatware along with it. Good to know that it can be Uninstalled.
Isn't there a way to download this update manually? Because it doesn't show up for me and I desperately need Android 11...
I downloaded android 11 with VPN France but it is version 41. I can't find this latest version 42 anywhere.
That's a pity, but still: lucky you! I'm stuck on ColorOS 7.1 / Android 10, CPH1919EX_11_C.35.
It keeps saying that version is up to date, no matter what region my phone is in and whatever VPN country I try.

this update is for devices already on Android 11. It is better to wait for your country's OPPO team to launch update as per your region. Your device will automatically show you when available. I recommend to be patient.
