How much of the tabs functionality will be retained if i will root or unlock its bootloader. Whats the best rom for this

I'm on 9.1.0.252, update overnight was enabled, and if possible I'd like to roll back to an earlier version. I'd like to root later on too, but it doesn't tell me if my bootloader is unlockable. Any way to root on 9.0?

Depending on what firmware version you are on. Due to bootloader(binary) versions increasing you cannot downgrade to a previous version, only a previous version with the same bootloader number or a higher version.
Basically if you on version 5 (bootloader/binary) you won't be able to downgrade to Oreo.
The only way is if there is a custom rom that has an Oreo favour to it.
You can still root on pie.

You can't, because new bootloader can't be downgraded to a supported unlockable version
