Amazon Halo View - Other SmartWatches

I see the Amazon Halo View smart watch on sale at Amazon for 50 USD.
As all things Amazon the main point is to get you to subscribe to something and/or bare your data soul.
But $50 for a watch sounds reasonable. It's smaller than some other things.
Has anybody tried this and how difficult is it to get it to do something useful without using an Amazon app or subscription?

Availability outside of the U.S.

Hey guys!
Is there any info about when it will be available outside of the U.S.? Especially Germany?
Could not find anything on the amazon.com website...
None. They haven't announced any availability outside the US unfortunately. It looks like we'll have to import one if we want one before Christmas. One Amazon Man simply said stay tuned, but my guess is not till 2012 to keep the Americans happy at Christmas.
First they need to open the appstore outwith the US, it would also help if they also added movie streaming, their cloud music service etc.
In the UK at the moment the only amazon services it could use are kindle books, music downloads and ordering stuff for amazon to send to you.
Just wait until they start getting up in eBay
Just use a postal forwarding service - www.shipito.com is the best one I've found. Especially since shipping within America is free, you only have to pay normal postage, and their postage rates are cheap because they have so much volume with the shipping companies. If needed you might have to use a proxy as Amazon might only allow US I.P addresses.
If the Fire is a cloud based device, you would need a lot of bandwith in your contract. Even then, did you try to stream videos to your handset.. Imagine streaming to you Kindle ! The Kindle Fire will rely on LTE (4G) communication, i´m pretty sure about that. So in fact, even if they ship to germany or in my case to austria you´ll need a LOT of fast mobile bandwidth, which is VERY expensive, if avaible at all.
I don't know where you get your informations, but Kindle Fire is WiFi only according to Amazon.com.

I got the 25 dollar store credit but didn't get Transformers. Happen to anyone else?

I got an email about the 25 dollar credit but Transformers and the other free media content didn't show up on my device or in my play store account. If I navigate to Transformers Dark of the Moon in the store it just gives me the option to buy.
I don't understand. I have a US account. I bought my Nexus in the US. I am currently in the US.
The 25 dollar credit goes to any first time buyer/user of the N7. so anyone that buys an N7 will get the 25 dollar credit as of now. The Transformers Dark of the Moon movie was only for preordered devices, did you preorder your tablet or did you buy it in store?
Did you check your Play Movies & TV -> Movies on the N7?

Really? I thought Transformers was for every tablet. In any case, this was a tablet I bought at retail and was not pre-ordered. Problem solved.
Didnt get it.
I didnt get it and i preordered from google. The only reason i know is because i wanted to delete it because i use my transformer prime for movies . Dont want to over load my nexus 7 with a lot of bs.But still i dont know why i didnt have it.
I got my device from office depot and I got both the credit and the movie. The only way to watch the movie is in the Google movies and tv app. Did you check there? Also, the movie doesn't take up any space on your device, it is streamed each time you watch it.

This is not true. All Nexus 7's get the free content if you are in the States, preorder or not (mine was not a preorder).
If you are in other countries, some of the content is changed or not available at all (ouside of the UK for example).
They want you to get the free stuff including the $25 google bucks... it gives you the chance to try something that you might not otherwise try on your own. Thats why it is a Book, a Movie, a Song... and $25 google dollars for apps... each of the selling zones.
They want to make money on people buying content with their device like what Amazon wanted with the Kindle Fire.
On the Kindle Fire, they gave everyone a free Prime membership for that same purpose...

I picked up an account n7 at HMV in the UK and transformers was indeed on the device when I started up for the first time. Don't think it was downloaded as I was using a 3g tether at the time.
Edit:
I take that back, I didn't realise (never having tried a film from the play store before) that films appear to be streamed, at least it wouldn't play without a wifi connection.

Radio Shack - $10 back for each $50 spent so I bought the Nexus 7, 32GB

Radio Shack currently has a deal that for every $50 spent, you get $10 back in store credits. There are some limitations like how many coupons a person can receive and also how many coupons can be used for an individual purchase. You're limited to one coupon per purchase. Click <here> for the Radioshack.com site's deal.
Radioshackwireless.com bought purchases don't apply and there are a few other restrictions on what you buy that doesn't qualify, but, the good news is that there are several tablets you can purchase like the Kindle Fire HD and the Nexus 7 where I believe you can make use of the store credits.
Also, they're offering free ground shipping for orders over $50.
So, I pulled the trigger and bought a Nexus 7 at $249.99 + tax and I'm watching my email for the $10 coupons that are supposed to arrive soon. I should receive four $10 coupons and if I had thought about what I was doing, I would have found another item for less than $10 to get a 5th coupon and basically get that item for free. I should never shop until after my first cup of coffee is gone but the Nexus 7 at basically the cheapest I think you can find these anywhere for a 32GB version isn't too bad so I'm not going to beat myself up on this one.
But then you have to buy more stuff at radio crap. Not a bad deal tho I suppose

Excellent deal, was able to purchase a n7 for a friend. Thanks
Well I figure I can always use batteries for the multiple remotes in our household. RadioShack isn't one of my first choices typically either but I found a few things I'd be able to buy with the four $10 store credits.
They have an APC uninterruptible power supply I'll probably pick up. It's listed at $59.99 at the moment and has free shipping. Take $10 off and it isn't too bad of a deal. For a techie, something like this wouldn't be too bad of a gift come to think of it. There are a bunch of other useful things that don't cost too much like bulbs, fuses, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide sensors, etc.
I was a bit concerned at first, but I couldn't pass up the deal since they had the 32GB in stock with free shipping and this incentive so I'm sure I'll be able to spend the $40 without going too much over the amount and still get useful items I would have had to find elsewhere anyway. We have a lot of family nearby so it seems we're always looking for some kind of small gift.
I received a 'shipped' notice already so two days from now this new toy will be in my grubby little hands getting customized for hours until I'm too tired to hold onto it any more.
I'm glad someone else has found this deal useful. What a lucky friend!

Fire TV and Slingbox 350: Get Cable TV for $10 a Month (YMMV)

I cut the cord a few months ago. I have two fire TVs, and I'm mostly happy with my Hulu subscription for getting TV shows that air on CBS, ABC, NBC, etc. However, I do miss live tv and am going to REALLY need it come football season. I was going to bite the bullet and get a rooftop antenna. It would have been really expensive, but hell, it's a one-time cost. Then I found out about Slingbox. You can use it to control your cable box remotely from an Android or Apple device so you can watch TV away from home. It reencodes the output from a video source and sends it over the Internet to your device. A Slingbox 350 sells for $100 and the app costs $15 from the Google Play store or Apple store. The Fire TV has a Slingbox app for free. One of the selling points of the Slingbox is for people who have multiple homes but don't want to pay for Cable TV at both locations. The Slingbox acts like a remote control extender and super long video cable from the one house to the other. My bright idea was to buy one of these things and put it at a relative's house. They'd get another cable box just for me and I'd pay them back for it. I'd connect the new cable box to the Slingbox 350 to it as if it were a TV, and stream the video to my home using their Internet connection and watch it through my Fire TVs. A couple of caveats:
You need to find someone who won't mind the upload bandwidth.
Willing to have another cable box installed in their home and pay its rental up front.
The Slingbox will only send the video to ONE device at a time. Even if everyone wants to watch the SAME thing, only one Slingbox to one device at a time.
The experiment was a success! They have FiOS TV with a 25/25 Internet service. The 25 upload speed capacity makes a BIG difference compared to the 50/8 Cablevision connection I had tried in the past. (I should note that the network activity on the relative's FiOS Internet connection is low as they hardly go on the Internet.) The video quality is very high.
The Slingbox app on the Fire TV isn't as nice as the one for phones and tablets. Instead of providing their own programming guide, it just uses the guide feature on the cable box. This is useless since there's a 5 second delay between commands. I don't understand why the Slingbox needs so long to send commands and why the video has to pause while it sends. The Fire TV app always defaults to the lowest quaility setting rather thn remember that I want the Best HD quality, so I have to manually set it each time I use it.
I didn't bother with the Slingbox 500 for a few reasons:
I didn't need or want wireless.
HDMI is protected such that it won't work for a lot of channels. Component is good enough for me.
I don't need or want any of the on-screen features provided by the Slingbox 500.
Overall, the Slingbox 350 and Fire TV might be a great way to piggyback someone else Cable TV service. The only fee I have to pay is the additional box fee, which is $10 a month.
Verizon has a 10tb limit or less before they send letters about high data usage.

10 TB means you'd have to transmit at over 32 Mbps constantly for 30 days to hit that cap.

Well, Verizon offers a lot of 50 and 75 deals. At 25 Mbps, you couldn't hit the cap anyway.

Unfortunately for me, I can't get Fios TV. Only phone and Internet. The cable company knows this, so they screw us over due to lack of competition.

Reliable IPTV Service for around $10/month...

I have been using an IPTV service that is usable on Android based streaming platforms for the past 3 to 4 years that is solid as a rock. Devices such as the Firesticks, Google Chromecast with GoogleTV and many more Android based boxes and sticks. All the sporting events, from UFC to WWE to NBA to NFL to MLB to Cricket and other off the beaten path sports if you choose. As well as locals across the country from the 4 major networks. A couple thousand Live TV channels in total with all of your "cable" channel favorites plus many more. All for around $10 a month. Easy to install and setup via downloading an app to the Android based streaming device of your choice. It even works with Google TV or Firetv based tvs. Just figured I would throw that out there. I can send pricing info upon request.
Ahh nice! can you ping me the name?
