i want to move to lineageos from the custom rom, but i have this problem, tried to google solutions in different ways but i can't find people with the same issue.
phone works fine otherwise, but when i have it completetly OFF and try to start it by holding power+voldown keys i go into fastboot (i can tell cuz if i dont touch it it stays on a black screen with lil to no light). and as soon as i press the power key (effectively choosing to do a reboot), it powers off and on and goes on to boot my old config.
btw i have enabled OEM and usb debugging. but i haven't got root access cuz it's my understanding that to get that i need to do some things to it in fastboot hooked up to a pc with ADB minimal.
any ideas?
hello there! I have the exactly same issue here.. Volume DOWN + Power goes to black screen....
However i could find out that it is, indeed entering in the fastboot as i was able to send commands and unlock the bootloader through the CMD.. But now i cannot get to install the TWRP (get some error). Did you solved it? anyone can help?

i just figured it out, what commands are u using to install twrp?
well, for anyone in the future wondering about this **** u gotta make sure the usb port in your pc is 2.0, a 3.0 will return failed access to the unlock data or the flash boot command for twrp
and u gotta use >fastboot flash boot ''twrp file name''.img
also, for this specific model evert or moto g6 plus if u using the lineage official release make sure the number after the mindthegapps file matches your version of android, i ****ed that up many times until i realized i was trying to install MTG 10 in android 13. what a ****head am i!
oh, and finally if u are in fastboot and can't see anything, the path to recovery (and hopefully twrp) is to press 2 times voldown and 1 time power

Also, in other topic they pointed out that some Moto G6 Plus have only ONE partition, so you cannot FLASH a recovery (because they dont have a partition for that).. you can ONLY boot on TWRP, if you Flash the TWRP on the partition you cant have a OS at same time..

u want to enter twrp? make sure a copy of the file its on sd and do ''fastboot devices'' first to make sure connection is ok. then ''fastboot boot (twrp.img)''
changing twrp.img to the exact name of your file. on usb 2.0 or it won't work

it correctly displays TWRP, it's black just in fastboot.
u can use adb while in fastboot to order it to boot twrp, that's how i did it. or i guess u could hypothetically make it go into recovery mode (twrp if installed) by moving blindly using vol + or - but i'm not sure.

Update; After successfully unlocking the bootloader, I boot to the Pixel Experience recovery and the screen remains black.
But if I boot to TWRP, it does display it correctly.

i'm guessing the pixel experience recovery is a custom recovery mode, right? maybe the black screen it's a thing with factory menus? idk

Yes, is just like the LineageOS recovery.
I always replace the Rom's recovery with TWRP in any case.

Michael Hall writes about how you can win an OPPO Find 5 by porting Ubuntu Touch to it!
http://mhall119.com/2013/08/win-an-oppo-find-5/
So they're asking:
-developers who don't own the phone to develop for it so they can win one, which is nearly impossible.
-developers who own the phone to develop for it so they can win a second one.
sounds a bit weird.
(Of course winning somthing is always cool, but you get the point)

-True, but during XDA: DevCon we had 3 people without a phone produce images for it, and it's not a one-chance thing, you can resubmit as often as you like.
-How about this, if you already have a Find 5, give me the same of somebody who you think should get this one instead. Could be a friend, or somebody who's work in the XDA community you think should be rewarded.
Despite having three separate developers build images and flash them onto the phone, none were able to boot into Ubuntu Touch.

Oh wow, I didn't know you had already gotten that much working. If you're not going to try for the contest, maybe somebody else can use yours as a stepping-off point and just fix what's currently broken.
Testers needed
OK guys, I've just completed a build, but I don't own the device, so I need testers.
If any of you is willing to give it a shot, here is the link: http://goo.im/devs/Androguide/Ubuntu-Touch/find5/saucy-preinstalled-find5-armhf-2.zip
Please grab a logcat for anything that doesn't work (especially if it does not boot).

It shouldn't touch your recovery partition at all, do you mean you can't go to recovery because it doesn't boot?
What does adb reboot recovery do?
Otherwise just fastboot flash recovery recovery.img a TWRP image, but this is pretty weird.
Oh, and when I say flash the Ubuntu base after, you don't need to reboot in between, just flash both zips one after the other, the build first and the ubuntu base afterwards. (Also remember to do a factory reset, wipe dalvik-cache and, optionally, /system

fuqqqq well right now it WONT boot up just stays in the green oppo logo splash screen but....
This is what ive done so far so i can flash the TWRP image back on....I do fastboot flash recovery "here i put the recovery .img" but it doesnt want to flash it.
Then I thought why dont i just flash the other file you told me to flash So I try to do that..
I run fastboot flash recovery saucy-preinstalled-touch-armhf and i get the following error
I get error cannot load ' saucy-preinstalled-touch-armhf''
I even tried it on the recovery .img file but i get
error cannot load 'openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-find5'
What i should of done was what you said, flash one right after the other but I didnt...... I by 2nd nature just wiped dalvik cache and i tapped reboot system. So im kinda stuck right now. Does it help that when I do fastboot devices I can see the random numbers generated by my device? I read on a blog for the oppo find 5 that After entering this command ( fastboot devices ), you’ll see the random numbers appeared in the command prompt. This is to ensure that your device is properly connected.)
ANY help you give me is valued. Thank you sir.

From your error message, you simply didn't add the .img extension to the twrp image
Also, you can't fastboot a zip, don't try.
But, did you try to simply do the following?
Code:
adb reboot recovery
There's absolutely no reason why it would have overwritten your recovery, my guess is you can't reboot to recovery using the button combination.
Anyway, if the above doesn't work, follow these steps to reflash your recovery:
Open a terminal on your pc
Make sure you cd to the directory where your twrp image is
issue the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-find5[COLOR="DarkRed"].img[/COLOR]
Reboot to recovery using:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Are you on windows or linux?
Okay so I did that I flashed the recovery.img then I rebooted using fastboot reboot
Now i proceed to doing adb reboot recovery but i get
error: device not found
Please excuse me as i am not an elite developer im not a noob nor an expert but It could be that I couldnt get the drivers for the phone installed. I know adam outler on G+ said as quoted
+Franco Colomba I had no such issues with drivers. The only thing was ADB needed an extra USB VID added.

I don't think it's an usb driver issue since you have fastboot working. It's true that we don't have adb access when in fastboot mode.
Follow this guide, it's exactly about your issue and assumes you're on windows: Unbrick the Find 5(Software unbrick via fastboot)

Try this:
Download a CM build
Open it with winrar and extract the boot.img from it
hold shift and do a right-click in the folder where you extracted the boot.img, and select "open a terminal here" (or whatever the header is)
Issue this command
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now try again to reboot to recovery using the buttons combination
hurray so i managed to get the phone working by using a script found in that one thread you linked me too.. never the less i managed to get into TWRP and from there i had already made a backup (THANK GOD) and i restored and the phone is up and running perfectly. Now what Im going to do is what you instructed to do first.
1. the build first
2. then the ubuntu base afterwards
with
factory reset, wipe dalvik-cache
i will post back my results wish me luck

I've noticed that the Find 5 is kind of hit-or-miss when trying to get into recovery using the power+volume-down combo. It seems that maybe you need to have it disconnected from USB, and start pressing volume-down very soon after, but not at the same instant, as the power button. Also, it takes a while of looking at the OPPO splash before it gets into recovery.

Yes mhall you are correct. I found a little trick to get it into recovery...well im not sure if its a trick or not but its what helped me get back into recovery after it not booting up. I might make a video about it later. But heres an update:
So i flashed both the build and the preinstalled package and then did factory reset which wipes out cache and dalvik
then i rebooted.
RESUTLS: it stays on the bootscreen aka OPPO GREEN LOGO.
what do you think is the problem now Androguide.fr ?

Yeah, Michael Hall reported to me that the build doesn't boot either.
I'm working on a new build using a different toolchain, as with the stock Google TC I had to hack my around -Werror flags and this might be the problem.
I'll post the progress here.
I am using moto x style and unlocked bootloader with 'Windroid Universal Android Toolkit' v2.5 but cannot flash TWRP and root this apl. Today I tried flash TWRP and then root but after showing 'Congratulation' pop up,my phone stucked on 'No command' page. I tried twice and same result. Later i check there is either no TWRP or root by SuperSU. And i see youtube video and and read many XDA forum and comments and most of the users says the phone stuck on M logo page when reboot after the root process. And all says its a issue with Marshmallow. And most of the xda posts and youtube video are made during 5.1.1 so there is no problem in that video during flash TWRP and root. So i need a seamless process to flash TWRP and root on Marshmallow so that it doesnot stuck on M logo. And I dont want to downgrade to L for root. And unluckily if it stuck M logo thwn what to do to go back to home screen?Thank you.

Step 1 - Stop using toolkits! They rarely work right on modern Android devices. With the Moto the only safe, reliable way to root is manually.
I don't know what the 'old way' is to flash TWRP your referring to here... I recommend one time booting twrp with "fastboot boot twrp.img" command (replace twrp.img with your actual twrp image file) then perform a backup to the SD card or USB OTG device and put it away for safe keeping. Then flash twrp either with twrp you have booted, or manually with "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img"
The rooting method I linked before is valid for all Marshmallow builds, if you have Lollipop or Nougat you need to find a different method.

On your device, go into Settings -> About and find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times to enable developer settings. Press back and go into Developer Options and enable USB debugging. From your computer, open a command prompt and type:
adb reboot bootloader
You should now be in fastboot mode.
Download the correct image file and copy the file into the same folder as your adb and fastboot binaries. Rename the image to twrp.img and type:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.
I am saying about this official method which is on twrp.me site. And after typing 'fastboot reboot' what I have to do to go home page? Sorry to ask u so many things. Actually I am totally new in this thing and very much worry after facing issues 2-3 times. And thank u very much for fast reply.
One more ques, I have unlocked bootloader with that "Windroid Universal Android Toolkit". Now in fastboot it shows 'bootloader unlocked, code 3' is that ok? As u say toolkit doesnot work on modern devices.

So Moto is a tad different... After you flash recovery, do not reboot with fastboot, instead use the Vol Dn key select Recovery and press Power to start it. When the splash screen comes up, allow changes to system, then I the TWRP main menu select Reboot - Recovery, the device will start TWRP again and it should be "locked" in. From there perform the rooting.

Btw suppose if i dont want to root it at that time, then what i do? I mean just after flash recovery how to go to home screen without rooting?
And when i want to perform root process later, after installing SuperSU zip if I press power button and vol down then may I go to twrp recovery or ph stock recovery?

OK... I'm confused, why are you unlocking and installing twrp if your not going root or flash a custom ROM?

I will definately do so. I also want to use CM14.1 but i want to do so step by step. Actually after facing issues 2-3 times i am little bit worry now. That is true. So hesitate to perform both at a single time.

You don't need to root if your going CM, flash TWRP, backup, and flash CM. You don't need to over complicate it.
If you boot (not flash) TWRP and backup then get a copy to safe place there is little risk of anything going wrong.

Ok. But is there any regular chance of going wrong during flash TWRP or flash CM? I backed up all internal important data to external sd card and when I perform these process I just remove that sd from phone.
You pls tell me how to go to home screen after flashing TWRP?
And if I need to root it later then also what to do then? I mean if then I press power and vol minus then will I get TWRP recovery to root it or it will be redirectred to phone custom recovery?

There is always a chance of something going wrong, no one can guarantee everything will be fine. We have had people do everything perfectly but something happens and it's bricked... It's rare but does happen.
After you flash TWRP in the bootloader, press Vol Dn until it says Recovery and press power to start it, after several seconds you will get a screen that will ask if it can write to system, select yes, the next screen will be the TWRP home screen.
Once you flash TWRP, your stock recovery is gone, but you access it the same way... Power off, press and hold PWR+Vol Dn and in the bootloader menu select Recovery and press power.

Thank you very much for your kind guidance and quick reply. I will perform this may be tomorrow and then inform you. If it is bricked or stucked in any stage/page then is there any instant process to go back to safety?

Your last two are redundant, either flash or boot, you don't have to do both, but each has a purpose... Flash is permanent, boot is transient and will disappear on a reboot.
Boot TWRP first, the first time it will not take you to the main page initially but show you a notification page asking if you want allow it to make changes to the system or keep it read-only, this time only do not allow changes... Then the main screen of TWRP will be displayed and you should do a full backup of all partitions to the SD card.
Flash will just write the recovery partition, it doesn't start anything, you select recovery from the fastboot menu to start it.

So after "fastboot boot twrp.img" i have to allow to make changes and have to do a nandroid backup. After that will I get option to "Reboot?"
And later when I went to recovery I will get twrp page instead of stock recovery? 1st I think I should flash cm13 then root then upgrade to 14.1 bcz still a feel little worry to root it on stock rom.

No, almost every part of what your saying is wrong...
Boot twrp and do not allow changes first time and backup. This will give a clean backup to restore from if things go badly.
After this is complete, in TWRP go to Reboot menu and select Bootloader, flash TWRP, do not reboot but use the bootloader menu to start TWRP. This time allow it to make changes to system. At the main menu if twrp go to Reboot - Recovery the device will restart and TWRP will load automatically, this step will lock in twrp so the stock OS doesn't replace it.
You only need to root stock rom, you don't need to root CM roms as they are already rooted (there are a few roms that are not pre-rooted but they are rare and none of the ones your talking about). As far as CM 13 vs 14.1 I can't really help you but from I've read both are stable enough for a daily driver device.

After typing 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img' i switch to recovery and select it. But it shows recovery failed, bla bla in red colour. I tried 3 times but same result. What to do? now again when I go to the recovery,i see still it is the stock recovery.
EDIT: Fixed! Big thanks to @S0wL , @bkores , @tamahouse02 and @tron1 for the help. I made a guide to help other people with the same problem:
Guide to get TWRP again HERE
Okay, it seems to me that I messed up kinda badly. The phone is fully operational, but after I got to 7.0 the stock recovery replaced good ol' TWRP... which left me with an unlocked bootloader and an useless recovery. I have no root, and that's pretty much the only thing that matters to me. I downloaded @bkores 's Axon7Toolkit but there is NO way to get fastboot on the damned thing. After the program tries to get to bl mode (I assume adb reboot bootloader?) the ZTE logo flashes and the unlocked BL image appears, then the phone starts as normal.
Same thing with the leaked 7.1.1, no difference.
I tried EDL, recovery, that shady factory test mode thing, no one gives fastboot... Any ideas as to why I can't get there??+
I suspect it may be something related to the OEM unlocking option in the dev options, but it is set to ON and greyed out. so no idea
Try the menu on the boot screen.

Sounds like the issue is with the ROM like it is somehow blocking you from accessing bootloader mode. It's definitely not my toolkit.

Feel the same, 7.1.1 stock recovery is evil, it keep coming back after flash twrp. LOL
Here what I didi to get twrp on 7.1.1:
1. Use axon7tool -w recovery (twrp of couse)
2. Watch closely the cmd, when it said "Successful!","Reboot in 5 second" - unplug your phone
3. Use Volume Up + Power to get to recovery (twrp)
4. Mount > Mount System (dont check read only)
5. Flash something - I don't know - But I get the feeling that it stop stock recovery coming back - I personally flash Chinese Modem (because I have to ))
6. Reboot system
@bkores Yeah I'm pretty sure it's not your toolkit since I can't access it even with key comb, adb, option on the unl bl page...
@lafester Nope, tried many times. It just boots to normal whenever I select fastboot
@tamahouse02 Well I believe that should work, but I can't get axon7tool not to crash... I'll keep trying, maybe it's a driver or sth.

Bootloader Mode is Disable/strip in G variant, and if this is how ZTE is headed to future updates it seems like U will have a Disable Bootloader Mode as well.
If you guy can rollback to MM , you can Unlock there using @bkores tool.

I was thinking about that, but does mifavor let you roll back from an SD update? I'll try later, but i doubt it.
Besides from that is there any way to flash stuff from the stock recovery? It tells me that ZIPs have to be signed only

Official 3.0.4.1
@tamahouse02
The latest "official" TWRP is at TWRP site https://twrp.me/devices/zteaxon7.html , version 3.1.0-0.
Is there any problem using it instead of the previous "official" 3.0.4.1 ?
Edit: I also read on TWRP site:
"Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install."
This is in sync with your information requiring to reboot immediately to TWRP (step 2 and 3).

I use 3.0.4.1 because I flash plenty things before without any issue, so I keep using it.
After write recovery by axon7tool, it's reboot automatically and override the recovery, that why I have to unplug to stop the reboot, and also flash all I can - fortunaeally it also stop recovery be overrided
@tamahouse02 sorry to ask, but is the a7tool of the link a fixed version? how does it differ from the one i have?
I've been in the same situation like you @Choose an username... Updated to nougat on G model and I had not bootloader. This is what I did :
1. Downloaded the tool from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/tool-axon7toolkit-t3573108
2. Installed the driver using the install driver option that you can choose once you connect you phone to your computer
3. Use the tool to perform the unlock bootloader command again even though you have unlocked it before
4. Use the tool to install twrp, it will boot the phone in twrp
5. Flash Supersu before you boot the system first time after flashing twrp
5. Install whatever version of android want after

adb only works while phone is booted into system so nothing wrong there. If you're in the bootloader menu where you see that the status of your device is unlocked then you're already in fastboot mode. Just flash twrp again and the sideload stock 8.1 beta boot image (you can probably find it on xda), sideload magisk too. Go into install and press flash image file and find the stock boot image and then go into install again and change to flash .zip and flash magisk. After that, reboot into system.
WOW thank you so much'

No problem. Thank you very much for the donation, that was really kind of you. Hey I'm sure you'll get the hang of it before android P drops. you did figure out what went wrong all by yourself so get a hold of the right boot.img and the rest is exactly as how you did it in the first place but flash the boot.img before magisk. Let me know if you want to give it a dive again.
I'm on 8.1 boot loader unlocked and ready to try to root again .Thanks for the help
This is the closest thread i could find to what is happening to my PH-1.
Like videodave1 I 'was' running the latest stock 8.1 and have my bootloader unlocked. In trying to root the phone I did this:
flash boot flash boot twrp.img
adb shell twrp sideload
adb sideload magisk.zip
All installations went well, but when trying to reboot from twrp it forced me to install the app. After that the phone went into boot loop.
* Note how I didn't sideloaded the Oreo 8.1 image before magisk.
By pressing all 3 buttons I can get the phone to reboot and releasing the volume up I can get to Fastboot. Just volume down and power doesn't work.
The problem now is that adb and fastboot no longer recognise the phone. adb devices just gives an empty list and fastboot only shows < waiting for device >
Trying to go into Recovery mode doesn't work either. Power off doesn't work and Restart bootloader, well, restarts the bootloader.
It might be relevant to mention that I'm running adb and fastboot from Terminal in a Mac and that this is my very first and frustrated attempt to root any phone.
For reference this is what the FastBoot Mode brings:
PRODUCT_NAME - Mata
VARIANT - OPENUS
BOOTLOADER VERSION - mata-aad8ac4
BASEBAND VERSION - 2.0.C4-M1.3.1
SECURE BOOT - yes
DEVICE STATE - unlocked
I might have to just resign myself to the ordinary land of unlocked full stock phones
Thanks very much

I might be missing something hopefully obvious here. How can I flash twrp again if I my computer can't see the phone. With the USB phone plugged in and in the FastBoot screen I enter into Terminal:
fastboot flash boot twrp.img
and I get:
< waiting for any device >
How do I flash it from the FastBoot screen? BTW, going to Recovery mode just hangs at the Essential logo.

Thanks Arju. If you are referring to the FastBoot menu where you can use the up and down volume keys to select Start, Restart Bootloader, Recovery mode and Power off Yes, but not much else unfortunately.

What you need to understand is that twrp will not stick after you flash it. This device does not have a recovery partition and that's why you replace the boot partition with twrp and while you're in twrp you need to flash the boot.img back and whatever mods on top of that such as kernel etc.. If you flash a rom then it will replace the twrp with the boot.img found in the rom zip.
So now we need the computer to recognize you device. Could you unplug the cable and change the usb port on you computer. connect your phone while you're in the bootloader menu where it says start on the top.
The use use fastboot command: fastboot devices
See if the computer recognizes you device.
So I gave my IMEI, serial number and $5 to someone on the internet, and in return I got an email attachment to flash to my phone. So I did, and it unlocked the bootloader. Strangely enough, now I'm getting a stupid yellow message that my device is unlocked and can't be trusted, and it's a bit of a roundabout way to get into bootloader or recovery. One ONLY works with buttons, the other ONLY with adb.
Ok, never mind, so I tried installing both the 3.1.1. and 3.2.1 of TWRP custom recovery, but I am unable to boot into it to make it stick. On top of that, my phone now says "encrypted"? WTF?
Clearly this latest incarnation of Nokia is a bunch of asswipes, offering us Sophie's choice instead of just unlocking the damn things from the start, so there's no point in asking them for help, but I'd expect members here would be able to help?
Any ideas how to proceed? Is there a factory ROM somewhere? This is 7.1.2. by the way, I'm not interested in updating. Come to think of it, I hate this so-called "progress" with convoluted "security" and whatnot. Just give me the damn phone and go away, Google+Nokia. Stick your "features" up ya clacker.

Err... no, not quite.
1. Your link is (was) dead, but in any case I'd be wary of installing something stashed in a private Google drive folder... Thanks, but no thanks.
2. I have several versions of TWRP, that's not a problem.
3. I know the correct commands (yours are not), that's not a problem.
And boom - no, you don't end up in TWRP. You end up in system, because it overwrites the TWRP automatically UNLESS you reboot to it immediately after flashing, and THIS is the problem.
It turns out that Nokia needs to be plugged into CHARGER, not the PC, then holding Vol+ and Power button combination will do it. It took me more than a dozen tries, but it worked in the end.
Hi, I had the same problem. I've unlocked bootloader and I successfully installed TWRP and I can go to recovery but the problem is I can't boot the system as it stucks on download mode. Can you help?
Press volume up+volume down+power button at the same time for 7-8 second.
