Netflix Framerate Matching [Request for APK] - Fire TV General

There were reports last August that Netflix was rolling out framerate matching for the Firestick devices but I still don't have it on my original Firestick 4K. Does anyone have a device with the feature working who would be able to share a copy of the apk here? I want to try side-loaded the version of the app that supports it to see if it works. I've got 3 different Fire Stick 4k devices and none of them have it.
I tried chatting with Netflix to see if they could tell me if it's only supported on the Max devices or something, but I couldn't get anyone who understood what framerate matching is. I miss they days when they could escalate your question to a higher tier of support.

Record screen over MHL/HDMI

Hey guys,
I'm working on a project in work that will require good quality video of an Android phone. I've looked at a few apps that can record your screen and output a video, but none of them give me the framerate or quality I'm looking for.
The solution I'm looking at now is using MHL to output the phone's display to HDMI, and using an HDMI capture card to record the signal. I know I can display the Galaxy Nexus' screen on a 720p television (as per the video here -> (YOUTUBE)/watch?v=ENdJv_AI5vU, sorry can't post links) but I'm concerned about HDCP. The wikipedia article for MHL states that a feature of it is:
Supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP).
I'm not sure if that means all MHL signs are encrypted, or that it should be able to support HDCP on request.
Does anyone have experience with recording HDMI/MHL recording, or recording a phone's display to video in general? Any help or advice is much appreciated.

I've struggled with this in my test lab at work. I have not yet found a solution that works reliably with MHL or even HDMI when the phone has it. I tried one from Diamond Multimedia without luck. I use the Elgato Game Capture HD but so far it only works with my ASUS Transformer TF300T and Motorola Xoom, both with HDMI output. I've got several MHL adapters, both the standard 5-pin and the Samsung-style 11-pin ones and the SlimPort for the Nexus 4. I've tried it with many devices:
Samsung Galaxy S II/III/IV, Vizio VTAB1008, Sony Xperia S, Nexus 4, Droid DNA, HTC One X and many others. Only the Transformer TF300T and Xoom work.
According to Elgato there are no known MHL devices that work, though they only tried a few. I can't yet post links but just Google this:
Code:
"game capture HD" MHL
and choose the first link to Elgato's site.
Elgato is certainly the way to go, just wish it was less expensive.
what u are looking for it is more a software solution.
u need something like tv support app and teamviewer. and u need a fhd display. and a record software on your pc which can record in fhd.
use tv support and teamviewer at the same time and overlay the screen of your smartphone and screen of your pc.
dont know if the cpu and ram of the phone powerfull enough to let the video stream fluently. maybe with the note3 or lg g2 or sony z1.
i already tested it with the note1 but it is almost a year ago and i dont own it anymore. my nexus7 2013 is broken right now. so i cant test it anymore. have to wait till 3 weeksto get the n7 back.
cheers

Mojo's youtube app could not go higher than 720p?

The stock youtube app displays no items only a empty menu, so I have to download the latest ome from google play. My mojo is rooted.
However, the maximum quality of any video is only 720p, even if my mojo is set to 4k output to a 4k tv. Some of the videos I knew for a fact were 4k since I watched them on my shield tv.
I then thought this was the fault of stock rom, so I went all the way to flash the remix os 2 rom as well. But I could still only got 720p.
What is wrong with my unit? I thought madcatz mentioned 4k youtube.

My guess it that it's YouTube, not MOJO. They will tailor their files to the target.

I wonder if using the YouTube plugin from within Kodi might work with higher resolutions...
Sent from my C6730 using Tapatalk
Already tried Kodi, and 720p only.
Using firefox and keep it as desktop mode, I could get 4k but very unstable, and slow like a slideshow.

Are you sure your internet connection is up to 4K? If so, try another (faster) browser. Firefox on Android is monster heavy. Even Dolphin might be too much, maybe Boat?

kevinthefixer has a good point. I've been able to watch typically laggy school lectures in Adobe connect using Puffin browser. Using one of these lighter browsers may do the trick for you (worth a try anyways).

Mine only 720 too and on Hudl 2 is 1080

I followed your suggestion and tried a few others browsers. However, it seems only Firefox and Chrome will get 1080p and 2160p from youtube's desktop sites - Firefox is very slow for 4k while chrome is giving me black screen no matter what resolution was chose.
For the other browsers, including Boat, the highest resolution is only 720 in desktop site.
At this stage, and after trying to play a 4K clip locally, I gave up. 4k on the mojo simply is not practical. I go back to my shield TV and the mojo will go the to TV in the basement.
720p is probably a pre-set from google itself. 1080p on mobile wouldn't even make sense for most users. google still allows to go to Desktop versions of its websites to stream better qualities.
Playing 4k on browser can be more difficult than localy in general. specially when playing anything else than AVC.
Mojo is VERY WELL capable of 4k locally. Im watching such contend nearly every time i start this little beast.
But it depends on the file itself. MP4 3840x2160 with AVC is a piece of cake, even beyond UHD its capable.
VP9 4k will not run fine at all. 1080p is fine but higher is tough.
Even HEVC at 1080p and a bit above is possible with Mojo.
Im using KODI btw.
The issue i have with Kodi and YT is a bit different. Sometimes the Plug-in, by that KODI itslef, stops and freezes the System. Same problem since day one on Mojo.
Conveniently, I've found a solution for you guys while solving a problem of my own with the YouTube app. That problem being the fact that I hate using my mouse to navigate. So upon finding out that there is a "lean back friendly" (ie: you can use the arrow keys to navigate) version of the YouTube app specific to Android TV, I installed it, it's much nicer to use than the mobile YouTube app for starters. And lastly but most importantly to you guys: you can enable 1080p.
You won't find it on the Play Store, at least I wasn't able to. I went to APK Mirror and got the latest version which I believe was from Dec 2015. I hope this helps everyone interested.

YouTube many videos limited to 720p S8

For some odd reason many of my videos on YouTube only show as a 720p option, when there are 1080p, 1440p options available on my sub 720p iPhone 7 for the same video.
An example is the following video
https://youtu.be/Ge1j7MBSQiE
Yet others play just fine at 1440p. I have tried updating to the latest YouTube app, wiping cache and settings and downloaded the latest APK from a mirror without any luck.
Is anyone seeing a similar problem or can offer any solutions?

I think your Video is just available in 720p.
I tried and could only choose 720p as highest resolution.
Try this video:
Here you can choose higher resolutions.
Here you can see it
It always defaults to 720, but videos can be adjusted if available. I wish there was a way to default it to 1440

What has been stated is incorrect, the above video is available in up to 4k. Simply try from a desktop PC or a different phone.
A large amount of high resolution videos are not showing higher than 720p, yet randomly other ones are (but not that many) That one above was just an example. All of the ones I have uploaded do not appear to be available any higher, even the ones in the past day(s).
Selecting higher resolutions from the performance menu and selecting that makes no difference since I only run my phone in that mode anyway!
Don't get me wrong, a few select videos have options for 1080/1440p such as a few demo videos. But in the large majority of cases content I always watch and know is available at higher resolutions is not going beyond 720p
https://youtu.be/QAHlOJlQhsU
Is another example it goes to 1080p/60 on my Iphone yet nothing beyond 720p on my Samsung S8

That KBHD video is one ripped from his channel. That one is 720P max.
Yes I see that 720 for a lot of vids is 720, and there are some that offer higher than 720. For some reason it defaults to 720 even if there is higher resolution available is what I noticed.
Same problem on Nexus 6P running latest 7.1.2. Started happening recently. 720p/60fps is maximum. 1080p not available at all.
i have noticed this too but i think it only affects videos recorded at 60fps? might be worth doing some tests, i tried a couple of videos by searching for 1080p60 and playing them but the highest resolution available would be 720p60.
Seems fixed for me or something.

I had the same problem you did. I did get a YouTube update and checked and it went away.

There are several chrome plug-ins that will force youtube resolution to whatever you want.
Still have this problem on my Galaxy Tab A 2016 and several other people too (look at the AppStore YouTube reviews)
What was the last version without that problem?
1080p60fps issue
I have the same problem... Actually, problem is related to 1080p60fps YouTube videos. I cannot see option to use it, maximum is 720p60fps.
If it is not 60fps, there is no problem to set video on 1080p or 1440p...
I think it's server side or the app itself and not the devices. As shown above there has been no trouble for me switching out higher than 720 even with 60fps. I had that problem initially and had an update from YouTube which fixed my problem.

I think the solution is to chose video's with high quality on WiFi only in the settings of YouTube. it works for me

How to force Amazon Prime Video 1080p/FullHD?

Improvable Situation
Amazon Prime Video let's you only use sd quality on this tablet. On amazon's official site, the only samsung tablet with 1080p support is tab s3 ("UHD/HDR/HD auf Sony Xperia XZ Premium-Mobilgeräten; HDR & HD auf dem Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy 8, 8+, Galaxy Tab S3, Sony Xperia XZ1").
How to improve (beginning)
So I questioned, why isn't it possible? After checking DRM Info I found out, that this device support google widevine secuirty level L1 (which is necessary for amazon's drm streaming to work). So the idea is, that Amazon just doesn't have whitelisted this device to use FullHD. Knowing this, I checked apps for changing device information and the best app I found is Device ID Masker Free which is also available in the play store. The advantage of the app is, that it doesn't change the system values (build.prop) itself but just hooks in the calls of apps which give back the information (see this explanation). Now the idea is to change the device information values to suggest amazon's app that this device is an tab s3. I first only changed the model number, which gave me an errorcode 1004 in amazon's app when I loaded the app. This found website suggests that this code is because device model error. So, it worked, amazon's app now fishes my manipulated device information data. But because of the errorcode it doesn't seem to be sufficiently changed. Now I changed my current model to "SM-T825" and current device and current product to "gts3llte". Now I can start amazon prime video app without error. But when I start a video I get an error (without code).
We will make it together
So, this just seems to be a matter of changing the device information data to the correct ones to get it working. So let's take together the journey to find the right values. Maybe now the "current hardware" is also important? What could you find out? Hope we get Amazon FullHD working on this device .
Did you make any progress? What did you try already?
there is a simple work around - use any android browser e.g. chrome or edge. set it to desktop site in browser settings and load amazon video page. 1st time you play you will get a one time grant permission check for encrypted content. after that , anything you stream in the browser quickly scales to show 1080p at bootom of screen.
once you expand the browser window to full screen, its just like using the amazon app, but in full HD. you even get the IMDB x-ray overlay when you pause the screen
I have this working on a 10 inch samsung tab s1 and on a lenovo yoga tab 3. you MUST choose desktop site setting., and stream within the browser. |Iprefer edge browser to stream my prime video in HD because it remembers that setting, and I can set ti to load last used page for easy continue..
Holy Grail - netflix and amazon video both in 1080p
PS to my workaround. above - i stumbled across this thread while seeking info on the the samsung tab s4- specifically- will it do amazon video 1080p out-of-the box like the s3?
amazon don't know and it is not covered in reviews so far, or mentioned in specs on samsung site
Idid a lot of research on the s3, before deciding to wait for the s4 - including talking to amazon, samsung, netflix - and what i found is that the s3 does stream amazon video at 1080p but netflix at only 720p without workarounds. Which is strange, as my samsung s1 does netflix at 1080p but there you go. strange but true, confirmed by experts and by testing with test patterns. i expect the s3 uses a samsung-specific version of the prime video app, not the one in play store, and that's how it workd, but I see no way / no where to grab that apk for use elsewhere.
My s1 can no longer access the samsung galaxy app store as they made it into an android 7+ only thing and I have android 6 on the s1 with no official upgrade for that.
My Fire HD 10 - the latest version with the1080p screen - does amazon at 1080p but it does netflix at only 720 via the official netflix app. (Tested with both google play and amazon app store versions and with test patterns). I get 1080p on the Fire HD 10 with a hacked netflix app but with that i lose the latest UI with the 10 secs forward skip. I am not aware of a hacked for L1 widevine version that also has the latest netflix UI ?
Thus my holy grail of finding an android tablet that does both at 1080p out of the box, remains unsolved - unless the S4 can. ?.
Now that the S4 is actually released, hopefully there will be more reviews and a definitive answer. meanwhile , all I get from amazon is ask samsung
I can get 1080p for both streams , on samsung and on fire tablets but only by using a hacked for widevine netflix app on the fire & the stream in browser trick for amazon on the samsung.
there is no " run in android browser" trick for netflix AFAIK. Netflix always redirects to the app if installed, or seys to install it, if not.
the s3 also has netflix HDR but as I say, only at 720., and hdr is probably not worth getting excited about yet. I did try to ding out that netflix content has it already but did not get far on that.
it would be nice to know if the s4 has netflix HDR, just as a future proofing thing though
Have any progress?
No, but I'm also still interested.

Do you have bought the s4 now?
If yes, could you please send the device info so one can use the masker app (see first post) to let amazon think, p580 is s4?
Edit: for netflix see https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...lix-hd-widevine-drm-l1-devices-t3307241/page5
I think: Technically the device is L1 compatible. So the only problem is, that the apps (neflix and prime video don't allow hd on them). So there seem to be only two workarounds:
- Modify the app (or use an older version of the app?), to allow 1080p playing for this device
- Use the normal app but simulate for the app that it is an compatible device (e.g. using device masker)

have not bought another Samsung and probably never will.they are way to expensive compared with this....
I bought a Lenovo yoga tab 3 pro, or plus? 10 inch Android 1080p Netflix , dolby audio, and for Amazon I use the workaround of desktop site in android edge browser. TBH Its been ages since Amazon prime added anything I want to watch. I mostly watch Netflix, and sky box sets for the HBO stuff in the UK

2 updates:
1. after studying all the confusing info on S4 and S5 re 1080p - does it or doesn't it...
I bought a HUAWEI M5 10.8 This does netflix 1080p AND amazon video 1080p straight out fo teh box [ wll you have to download the standard amazon video app for play store and log in...]
my smart workaround for amazon video HD - use a browser in dsdesktop site mode no longer works. A must have blocked that loophole, I could not get any HD to appear in any browser, so either amazon was having a bad evening or they blocked that option- I think the latter because I tried downloading other browsers and none were asking for permission to handle protected content
for the record, and moving on from the s4, I am still unsure if samsung S5 does netflix @ 1080P, amazon video @1080P... or just one out of 2, or neither...
but the Huawei M5 media pad does both. it does not seem to have any audio settings to twiddle, but it sounds similar to my Lenovo Yoya with its Dolby Atmos ON.
I still think Atmos on tablets is all hype no substance - and probably it sounds good just because of EQ boosts and tweaks. There are no actual speakers on the ceiling !
it doesnt work with me

YouTube on Fire TV 4K stick experience

Could you please share your experience with this new app?
I have my stick connected to my 5.1 Home Cinema HDMI port. At theokwnt I'm getting 5.1 sound from Netflix and Amazon Prime.
I was hoping that with dedicated YouTube app I will also get 5.1 sound. When on 9th July I downloaded and installed this new YouTube app I was excited as I played my purchased movies and inhad 5.1 sound.
Today when I started watching another purchased movie it is only stereo. I checked other movies from my YouTube library and now they all play stereo. Netflix and Amazon Prime are still playing 5.1.
I'm wondering if google have changed something or YouTube app have been updated in a meantime.
Also the video quality I can select watching purchased videos is showing max 480p however the video looks like 1080p so not sure what's going on. For other regular videos I can change quality to 1080p.
Can someone suggest any fix?
Thanks for comments.
Update 1
I think google/YouTube is doing something as today I can see quality options to have 1080p included now. However the sound is still 2.0. Hopefully they will change this too.
