Bluetooth connection issues - Android Head-Units

Having trouble with OBD dongle. Have installed 3 apps and although dongle will pair with head unit, the only option to select within apps says 'dummy FF:00:00:00:FF:FF'. This comes up even if dongle isn't plugged in but at the same time dongle works fine with phone so thinking head unit is the issue. Does anyone know what the above means as can't find any info online.

Posy android system information including MCU version, no one here has working crystal ball.

I was just asking if anyone knows what the dummy error is but if you need to know the ins and outs then help yourself...

This is mostly a not compatible OBD dongle...
Give us a link to the dongle if it is a ELM327.
Alternativ: Connection PIN is not the same as the standard in the head unit.
All Klyde units come with standard "0000" and most OBD come with "1234". You need to change the PIN in the head unit in front.
Also: Don´t connect a phone in front. If you already connected a phone, you need to delete that from the head unit, switch off the phone, set the PIN and first connect the OBD dongle. If this is then done, you can connect your phone afterwards.

I have 2 dongles, an ELM237 and an Erisin ES357. Both work fine with same app on phone but just not with head unit, so I know the dongles are fine.
I have changed the PIN to 1234 and both dongles will pair with Bluetooth on head unit. My problem is that when I open the app and it asks me how I want to connect, I select Bluetooth and then it gives me option to select what and dongle is not there, only option is what I've stated above and I do not understand what that is. That option is even there when no dongle is plugged in.
I have installed 2 other OBD apps and they all come up with the same problem.
I did turn my phone off and leave it upstairs last time I tried in case dongle was attached to that somehow and could not communicate with head unit, regardless the fact it was paired. I have not, but will, unpair phone from head unit and try dongle again as that is about the only thing I haven't tried.

I use Torque on my units and I also own a CSM4 unit and that works flawlessly with my 2 cheapo ELM 327.

I've no problem with either on phone, just head unit. That's why I'm trying to find out where the conflict is as unit Bluetooth pairs with either dongle but App doesn't see it???

Well I guess you guys don't know either

Which app you are talking about???
You never stated that. If the unit connects to the OBD dongls there is nothing wrong.

The main one is Torque but have downloaded 2 other similar apps and there is the same problem. Unit pairs with dongle, no option to select it in apps.

As I said... no issue at all with my CSM4 and others. I use Torque pro since years now, with a $6 cheapo ELM 327.
Write a mail to Klyde and ask for support, may be there is something wrong with your unit... but don´t expect an answer before Jan 28th. They are on Chinese New Year holiday.

Seller has said that the dongle they sold is not compatible with the unit, said I need an ELM327. Told them I already had one and that didn't work with the unit either so this morning they messaged and said they had another model dongle and that they had tried it, that worked and they would send it. Thought they were all supposed to be generic? Trying to uplad video to show issue but keeps coming up with error. File probably to large so am reducing quality and will try again.

Video

Your Galaxy is listed first, try remove it from the paired list so only the OBD unit is on the list, reboot and try again.

I've done that. Unpaired it and even left it upstairs to make sure there was no conflict with stereo or in case OBD was trying to connect to phone.

Last thing I would try, because some guys had same issues long time ago with some MTCD units...
Remove the OBD dongle shut off the phone or just switch off the BT completely.
Unpair both, use a small pin and press the RST button at the front of the unit. (or just unconnect the battery for a second.)
Then stick in the BT dongle after the boot process is complete and pair it again. Try to setup the BT dongle in Torque.
If this then is possible it clearly is the reason that you had your phone connected first at the beginning.... if not, wait for the dongle from Klyde.
BTW: This needs also be done once you get the new one. If you have luck they send it tomorrow, but I would not bet on it... because tomorrow is there last working day until end of January.

Unfortunately not. I´ve seen some OBD with ELM327 which did not work... That´s the reason I told to buy a cheap one and give it a try.

Received the new OBD II from seller this morning and just bee out to try it, surprising enough it works. What I did do was delete everything off Bluetooth and made sure Bluetooth was off on phone so the only device was the new dongle. Bluetooth on stereo found it ok and paired, same as other, but this time when you selected it from paired and clicked pair it went red like phone does when you select it. Bluetooth in app found dongle and allowed me to select it but it wasn't communicating so I closed app. At the same time I deselected it in stereo Bluetooth but left it paired, opened app again and it worked. Dials are working and run a quick scan so looks to be ok now.

Do you know what kind of bluetooth mode you are using?
any one from the one iv'e attached picures from?
if you don't know you can got to factory settings and type "126", it should get you to the hidden menu.

A newbie experience installing a Joying JY-VM130N2 (Intel Sofia 2GB, Android 6)

Hello, I would like to share my experience with my first Android Head Unit (an Intel Sofia Joying JY-VM130N2), installed in my 2009 Volkswagen Passat (B6) in case it works for any one ealse.
I never installed anything like this or related to car audio, but I am familiar with computers an tablets and that sort of things.
This is the before:

The front panel gets out with your bare hands (but maybe in your case you have to use some kind of prying tool)
As an advice I read many places, don't disconnect the AIRBAG cable in the frame. I just left it hanging.
The radio gets out unscrewing 4 torx screws. You can see there is behind a blue box, and that was a Parrot hand-free that was broken and I had to also remove.
I just disconnected it, connected the Joying unit and voilà (didn't even take pictures of the unplugging/plugging process):
I just installed it with the canbus and disconnecting this cables (which I think other people connects and after they report problems with the unit...):
I had some weird problems with the bluetooth, but it seems to be working perfect now. I can send/receive calls using the Head Unit, and also I have it conected to a cheapo ELM327 bluetooth dongle bought in amazon, and working great with Torque.
Good things about this Joying product:
Cheap, it gave me the opportunity to have a GPS navi system, bluetooth hands free, and other insteresting features a very reasonable price
Installation was really plug&play, as advertised. It took me less than one hour to make the swap (I didn't install any rear cam, or microphone yet, but the unit works decently with the built in microphone).
Cons:
I suspect this unit will not last as an OEM unit, but didn't cost the same neither, I asume that
Not top notch quality here. Some buttons get deleted, the LED color for the buttons is incomplete, and the white LED color is... pinkish. Cheapo, but it works right now...
I had to solve over-heating problems. I installed a heat sink, and a fan, and a modded cover to allow evacuate the heat from the unit.
In any case I would rate this as a 6/10, basically substracting points for some issues as quality endings, terrible English manuals (at least Joying has a very nice collaborative community that makes Joying worth double it deserves). The English manual is simply sad. I had to search in XDA and their carjoying forums/blogs to find out answers I needed to proceed to the installation of the unit.
I demanded a new button that came like scratched or something, or wrongly painted; I hope to see how their after-sales respond.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I have some questions I would search the answer and come back here...
Does any body know if I hve my Head Unit paired with my telephone, can the HU use my phone's data plan to navigate or do online stuff?
Can I start SYGIC in the background everytime the Head Units turns on? I live in a place with many speed radars and the main reason I want this unit is to advice me of speed radars in case I get distracted... Now I have to manually start Sygic every time...
How can I improve the radio reception? AM doesn't work at all...
EDIT: I forgot to mention I found it extremely easy to install (AND REMOVE) this units... I think, I could steal this unit in 2 minutes. 3 minutes if I remove the cables carefully and also steal the GPS antenna... Have to do something about it...
EDIT 2: By the way, if you're interested in buying one Joying they have a promotion code 'joyingESP' with a 10% in the Intel unit. I don't know until when that code will work. If you need it, just try to use it and good luck.

1. You need to root and install an Bluetooth tethering app (read on my Q&A or you can install it via @surfer63 app after you root the unit) so every time the phone connects to the unit you have data also from the phone.
If you don't want to root then you can make the phone a wi-fi hotspot for your unit but you need to start the hotspot manually each time you enter the car or do it automatically via additional software from Google store... if you have an Apple I don't know if you can automate this
2. If you use the NoKill Sofia server custom keys mod and you edit the script properly you can start it every time... or there are apps in the Google store that can auto start apps.
3. I have no clue... I rarely use the FM radio... the AM radio I have never used it the last 20 years or so I mainly stream online radios when I want to listen to the radio... the quality is the best, way better than what an FM radio can offer

I couldn't bluetooth tether, but I think it's due to my old smartphone (android 4.4). It has the option, though, but it seems to not be working properly.
I used tasker to detect when I stablish a bluetooth connection to the Joying head unit, and then I activate WIFI tethering (which the HU detects and connects to).
Thank you for your help though.

I tried but couldn`t (got error) because my smartphone is android 4.4 and lbdroid compiled against minimum android 5.1.

SWM8802 Bluetooth settings missing

Hi,
I've just purchased one of these head units for my car. I can connect my phone to it via Bluetooth just fine for calls and music, but I want to connect the head unit to my ODB2 bluetooth dongle so that I can create a Torque dashboard for it.
However, when I go to the general settings, Wifi is listed but Bluetooth is not. I've searched and searched but there is no way for me to connect the head unit to a Bluetooth device. I've tried various third party apps that claim they are able to enable Bluetooth and connect to devices, but they all just seem to hang when I try to enable Bluetooth. Tried a system reset too, but that Bluetooth option is still missing from the settings menu.
Please can anyone help?
G
I'm also interested in knowing this. Torque doesn't seem to detect my bluetooth ELM327 at all. I also attempted to connect a USB-based ELM327 module, and Torque seems to detect it, but it doesn't work beyond that, and the headunit gives me a low-power warning light.
Hi did you get anywhere with this I have the same problem can't get Bluetooth options to show
I have exactly the same problem. I'm running a PX5 unit from Witson. Custom built for a Koleos. MCU is not a standard MTC device. I have no bluetooth option available in the settings and the stock bluetooth app does not display any search option whatsoever. It seems that it broadcasts itself for other devices to detect it but you can't search for devices. Seems like they may be handling the bluetooth via the MCU directly and not via android which is strange because they openly claimed that this device was compatible with the OBD II dongle that I purchased. They even shipped it in the same package. Will keep looking and post if I find anything.
I had the same problem with a different Chinese head unit. Solved by buying a WiFi ELM327 dongle which connected fine with the head unit's built-in WiFi.
Update to my earlier post...I managed to get mine working over BT with the WITSON unit. In the end I had to disconnect my phone completely and reboot the unit. Then I found a search option on the dialer page. Searching found the OBD II module and I was able to pair with it. After I was paired with it I was able to add my phone again and both can run in parallel. I have not been able to test much but it seems like this continues to work until the unit goes into a deep sleep and shows the startup logo again. If that happens then I need to go through the learning process again. Meh...
Hi friend, just a question, in the dialer where did you find the search option I cant find it in my android radio??
If you have the swm 8802 you cannot connect to obd2 this requires bluetooth 4 and the 8802only support bluetooth 2
Always Connect ODB First
The ODB readers are a tad picky but they connect using the same menus as any other BT hardware (headset, speaker, etc). First, turn on the car ignition, do not start.
2. Make sure no other BT equipment is connected to the head unit or even on & near by.
Next, place the head unit in searching/Discovery mode and then & only then plug the ELM BT Module into the car ODB II Port. Most cars must be 96 & newer. 95 GM with for the plug but won't work. They're usually ODB 1.5, don't ask, your screwed.
Finally wait for the module to pop up and ask for the code, it's 1234 not 0000.
After your paired, THEN open Torque and let it connect. Don't start the vehicle till the car icon stops flashing.
You should be good to go from then on. If you ever have problems after that. Make sure the app is totally closed, force stop and then follow this procedure again.

Mine connected no problem. Did it just like I do on my phone. I just got mine too though. Could be an update maybe
the original question wasn't answered and I have that problem too. I don't have a Bluetooth discovery/search option anywhere. the small bluetooth-like icon on the main panel just changes the color of the leds.
so can't connect new phone. although Bluetooth seems to be working, since an older phone, already paired, is still working.
Following this as my head unit is same. Theres no blietooth menu/option but it connects to a phone.
Ive tried a third party bluetooth manager but all that says is bluetooth disabled by admin??
A fix
That happened to me trying to add and ODB2 bt dongle. I had to use the app for bluetooth linking provided by the head unit. When I purchased the unit, I changed the bluetooth discovery and pairing code to 0000. Well, changing it to 1234 allowed me to add the ODB dongle.
I saw it on a YouTube video, and well, it worked for me. (And no, no native bluetooth option, came disabled for my unit as you said)
Hope it works for you too.
same problem with me
Hi sir did you found solution for this problem. I also have this problem with my native bluetooth. when i turn open system setting bluetooth missing. i try to open using shotcut and found shotcut to turn on bluetooth but when i turn on. it do nothing.
I can play music, make call using bluetooth app provide from head unit. Problem is i cant use it with OBD2 . same with your statement this bluetooth only stream signal to other. this Head unit cannot find other bluetooth.
Kindly please assist me. did this head unit still have hope to turn on native bluetooth or not. I still search many post regarding this issue. But issue bluetooth like this not many discussion.

Change the pair code in the bluetooth custom app provided, to 1234 and try again.
I had this happen and I think I figured it out.... in factory settings there's an option to choose bluetooth connect automatically or with pin. I checked with pin and was able to pair. I think the options are reversed in the settings

I have a Teyes Spro with the same Bluetooth issues as most on this post describe. Did you find an answer to your usb adaptor to solve the Bluetooth problem? I was told to add a line to the config.txt file but cannot locate where to access that to add it.
Bought a Teyes Spro headunit and I have a problem with Bluetooth discovery on my obd II and tpms modules. Does anyone know what is in the "Developer" tab? It is password protected not accessible. The 168 factory access code does not work for it. Anyone know the password?

Bluetooth option is missing from device settings menu

Hi.
I bought a headunit via ebay.
At device settings under wireless & networks section only wifi option is exists, bluetooth is misssing.
It must be bluetooth capable, because it works with android phone. Only one bluetooth icon is on the device homescreen which operates only with phone calls, contacts.
We have a bluetooth ODB item, but we cant connect it to the cars headunit, because there is no separate bluetooth menu under the device settings menu, where can i search or find BT devices, and therfore i can not pairing this ODB device to the headunit.
How to solve that problem? Is there eny idea or advice?
Sorry for my english...

Many head unit suppliers do this. They compile a crippled settings apk without bluetooth settings.
There is not much to be done about that.
I have this on my unit, I bought it from Seicane (haven't found out who the manufacturer is yet).
The bluetooth isn't available to android, as it is a host device (can be speaker and hands free kit, not normal profiles for android).
Unfortunately even plugging in a USB bluetooth dongle doesn't help as they have crippled the settings
android settings, in the upper right corner of the magnifying glass icon, press. manually enter bluetooth, you will find bluetooth settings. in the bluetooth program, from the pairing of the phone, change the name and pin to 1234. ready

No, you won't. You are talking about the Settings apps on phones. Most head units Settings program don't even look like the phone settings app as they have Settings apps which combine Android settings with car settings. . Most head units Settings apps don't even have a magnifying glass icon to tap on.
What's more: The Settings apps in Joyings are compiled without bluetooth settings, and this is the case on many head units. You can easily see this if you decompile the apps as they are pure java. Most users do not even realize, but most head unit Settings app lack a lot more functionality than the (mostly) standard AOSP Settings apps on phones.
Joying apps have a special bluetooth app that contains part of the bluetooth settings to do the pairing whith a number of selected devices.
Most head units have crippled drivers with compiled in white lists and black lists that only allow paring the phones and bluetooth devices they sell.
Please let us know which head unit you have and please share a photo of your head units settings screen, with all those users who don't have that. Instead of advising people incorrectly.
For example you could look at this video to see how many head unit settings apps look like. You see the bluetooth app allowing "some" paring. Then you will see the difference.
Still no luck huh?
I just got a head unit that also has no Bluetooth settings and no apparent way to pair with devices. The difference is that mine came with an app called just "OBD" (blue icon) and it is there only to help you pair the OBDII dongle. You just open the app, scan, pair and open Torque.
I didn't find the app in the store, but I'm sure if you reach out to your seller, they will be able to help.
Any update sir. i also have this problem. i want to connect hondata using bluetooth. but my bluetooth only have function phone call, contact.
Bluetooth not same with android phone.
kindly please update if you found solution.
Ummm no he is 100% correct. Worked for me like a charm. Mabey you should pay somebody to do it

Hi!
For some reason I cannot reply to the thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/junsun-v1-start-equalizer-aux-bt-music-from-launcher.4237797/ ( it keeps asking me to log in/ register and then sends me back to the homepage).
I just recently bought and installed a Junsun V1 Pro (got the base model - 1GB + 16GB).
I downloaded the bluetooth settings apk and installed it with the apkinstaller that was already available on the head unit.
For some reason the bluetooth settings apk keeps crashing when I try to open it?
I've never fiddled with things like these before so most likely I'm doing something wrong.
My only goal here is to be able to share internet connection to the head unit via bluetooth, since BT is always active on my Galaxy S10e and I can't be bothered to activate wifi hotspot everytime I get in my car.
Any ideas?
Thanks a million!

Install the app QuickShortcutMaker and try to find the activity to find and start Bluetooth devices list.
I thinks it's not 'BluetoothSettingsActivity' - but I don't know why...

Hello friend, I think that for your phone to share the Internet every time you get in your car you would have to use macrodroid.
I have it on my phone and I have it configured like this:
As soon as the phone detects the Bluetooth connection with my radio, it automatically activates the shared connection.
And when turning off the radio and disconnecting the phone from Bluetooth. It is programmed to automatically disable Internet Sharing.
I hope it helps. All the best!
Can you help me connect Bluetooth obd2 adapter with Nakamichi android car stereo. The Bluetooth settings in the unit does not have the option to change the password which is 0000.All my obd adapters use 1234.Please help.
Also the joying unit in my other car connects with adapters that only have obd2 as their internal name..

Unknown devices MCU and bluetooth problem

Hello everyone, first a greeting
and then I wanted to ask for information, having just bought an android car radio for my dacia sandero, and I found some problems:
1) bluetooth connects me ONLY to apple android phones but to no ODBII devices, I have tried 2 without success.
From here they go into settings I can't understand which car radio model is mine, Android 10 MCU STx, 8-inch display I try to attach some photos, if someone can help me with bluetooth or even flash the rom.
Asking sellers until now is unable to help me.
Thank you in advance.

Looks like you're looking for support for a new purchase or recent purchase. In the first instance, what does the seller suggest when requesting support?
If the seller is unable to help you with your purchase, take some time to read through the forums, you might find a number of answers to your questions, with a little effort. Be prepared to give back, contributing - writing about your finds to help others.
I noticed your original post in Android auto has changed from this duplicate post, but that doesn't change your involvement to do some ground work and using the search function.
XDA isn't paid support, if your seller isn't providing you what you need, you have to make some effort - like searching.

It´s always the same issue...
Pull out the OBD dongle
Switch off BT on any smartphones you are connected with the head unit
Delete the BT connection to the head unit on all phones.
Delete all BT connections from your head unit.
Do a cold boot
Connect the OBD dongle to the car
Connect AT FIRST the OBD dongle and test the connection.
After the connection is established reboot the unit
Wait until OBD is connected
Connect NOW your smartphone by activating BT on your phone and search from the head unit.
no success

HI.
I tried the suggestion without success, deleted the cell phones also restored the network settings at the time of the BT search (made from cellular settings) the ODBII device is found, but at the time of the connection it disappears and returns to the main search screen.

Did you set the PIN correctly? Mostly for these OBD devices is 1234 or 0000.
no success

I try to connect again with the mobile phone to verify the PIN of the ODBII, after I try again with the car radio,
or if better i can download/use another application to setup the BT
I would like to try other ROM if possible, since there are other problems
1) the cell phone usb dongle is recognized, but it connects ONLY in 2G / 3G despite being a 4G with reduced speeds of course.
2) the BT menu is very brainy compared to that of a mobile phone, I don't understand the reason to put it under the TELEPHONE menu instead of elsewhere.
PS. if u can do we can connect with messanger cam or whatsapp to see the situation in realtime.
(i'm italian)

I try with BT cellphone, and the password / pin is 1234 not 0000 the same as that set on the car radio but in the latter it does not connect
All Android radios have a reduced BT setup.
You won´t find any other implementations.... and no, you can´t change the BT app, this is dependent of the hardware.
Check the Alwinner threads with MCU: STM*** for any updates regarding your unit. I don´t know if there are custom ROM available.
...and no, no support via PN/Messanger... sorry.

MCU: This is the controller for your main unit where the SOC is mounted on. You need to stay on STM*** what is mentioned in the system settings. May be there is a newer one, but to be honest... Please ask in the related threads. We don´t need tons of threads about one and the same units.
Firmware: This is the Android and customer software which is installed on your unit. Please read the related threads...

Bluetooth not connecting to car

having trouble connecting the Bluetooth to car
Keep giving me " no compatible device was found " in the car side and "connection time out" the Android side
Car is Mercedes GL 2013
Android 10 head unit from China
Photos attached
Not Android Auto, requested move to Android head units forum.
You might find out what unit you have and search for topics from the MCU version of the head unit.

You can´t connect to the car BT-Device.
There is only the possibility to connect to a phone with activated BT on it.

No, BT is not possible to modify.
You just can connect to OBD devices (some at least) and phones.
I could not even connect to OBD devices.. tried two OBD devices !
I managed to connect my phone only

You need to delete all connections on the radio and the connection to the unit on your phone.
After that has been done, reboot phone and deactivate BT on your phone.
Reboot the head unit and first of all, bond the OBD device. Take care that the pin code is set correctly on your unit. It´s almost 0000 or 1234.
When you finished bonding your OBD, connect your phone.
It works only in this order.
